Weird.. vzw nexus unrooted messed up! - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

OK so everyone.. my galaxy nexus is scaring me.. my phone completely broke off with signal last night (had no connection what so ever. Resetted, battery removed and all troubleshooting) had to completely factory data resetted. Somewhat working now.. signal connection is weak, battery icon says its charging when not on charge, volume up button not working right, battery dying awhole ton faster.
I'm going nuts over this..
Help me.. should I flash a rom and root it? Or should I send it in and get a certified like new "phone" <whatever that is.
Helpsa me pleasea

Uhhh if you're still stock and unrooted I'd say get it replaced. It shouldn'tdo that at all

After another day waiting for galaxy nexus replacement to come. More bugs appear, phone won't stay locked after it Go's in lock mode. Auto light no longer works. Also apps aren't running right after full days use.. had to restart to get into xda along with YouTube, facebook, jackd ect.
Also what is "verizon wireless certified like new"?

It is a 'refurb'. If you have had it less than 30 days, you should get 'new out of the box' as a replacement.

That's poppy. Well hopefully the refurb is good. Scared

Is your phone its new why dont you just root and flash a rom /radios / kernel and after all that if still not working, well go back to stock /unroot /relock lol
Galaxy Nexus AOKP m5 Franco kernel m3

I'm with the guy over me... Just flash a different ROM, see if it helps... It it's really the radio, then OK, but you should always try :/ Imagine you have only had the wrong radio, or something like that; you didn't flash a different ROM, to check, you sent your phone in, for no reason what so ever...

Never flashed anything before. Just seems like if its doing this I matters well send it in under warranty

You know android is not perfect yet and from time to time google releases updates, and sometimes things can go very wrong with OTA updates, so you gonna be returning your phone everytime it updates to something better?
Give a try to this.. Its really easy and well will prepare you for any future trouble

If you never flashed anything before, well you better start now.. If you dont like doing this things im afraid android phones are not for you

I know its not perfect, I've had android before and have flashed stuff before. But not on this device. Although my phone shouldn't be doing this at all

Welcome to the club.
I had it for a week. My thoughts.
After a year with HTC Sense (Thunderbolt), I'm finally back to vanilla android, since I'm a former Nexus One owner. Atleast this should get speedy OS updates (even if there's a slight delay compared the to GSM version).
ICS is good. As you install more and more apps, and have them running in the background, it might get laggy, but thats expected.
HOWEVER, since this has the 720p display, the text, especially in the notification bar, looks much smaller (compared to my T-Bolt), especially the '4G' icon or the clock. Not a biggie for me, but the 720p display makes the text and images look much crisper.
If you do use custom roms, i suggest you keep the radio that was installed on the phone out of the box, since i tried the 4.0.4 radios and had some signal issues with it. Went back to 4.0.2 radios, and no problems since.
I have only one thing left waiting from Samsung, a proper 3-pin car dock and a hdmi desk dock.
Unlock bootloader right as you get it. This way if you decide to root and flash custom roms then you can do it without losing any app data because you'll be able to back it up using titanium backup.

I'm coming from the bionic.
First thing I love ICS and chrome just love it. Shape and feel is so nice.
I bought a battery extender(1mm larger then the regular battery) horrible got 4 hours. I miss my bionic because of how well it connected to the network.
Nexus G has a horrible time connecting I hope they fix it just like they did the bionic. It is a bit laggy but that's a soft issue for sure Google will fix it.
It seams like its slow on purpose (my opinion)
All and all only way I'll go back to the bionic is if they dont figure out the connection issues.
Hope I helped.

Screen won't stay off

Love the phone but for some reason the screen won't stay off when I lock the phone. As you can imagine the battery life is suffering because of it. I am rooted but it did it before I was rooted and Rom'd. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. I have my inactive timer set to 30 seconds.

is not so difficult, put the stock google images, don't install any app, press the power button to switch off the screen..does it stay off? yes: problem solved, no: go for warranty
I was afraid of that. I got the phone in trade for my iPhone 4s. Hahahaha. Worst case scenario I'll do an insurance replacement.
The issue is with the USB port on the phone. Try cleaning it out and using a thin knife or tool bend the inner contacts tab toward the front screen side of the phone.
That should resolve the issue.

Poor/no signal strength on vzw...radio issue?

Hey guys
So I bought this phone on Craigslist so I cannot have it replaced by verizon. When I got it I did a full wipe and reset. Then I installed franco's kernal and am currently running bugless beast with job 4.1.1.. The issue is that my signal is constantly disappearing or just poor in general.
I found a method that was supposed to fix this problem by raising the minimum CPU to 700mhz. But this did nothing.
Will installing a new radio help? If so which one do you recommend? Or am I just screwed?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
I have found that using the stock 4.0.2 radios has helped me a lot. They have given me a 70% improvement in dropped signal and poor audio quality. Having said that its still way worse than any other 4g phone I have ever owned. Lol. (Bionic, revolution,Droid charge, Droid razr, rezound, thunderbolt)
PS I am on my second nexus, still does it.

This is good news! Now my question is this. Once this update drops, will our best course of action be to go back to stock and update via ota? And then flash back to custom ROM? Or will flashing back to a custom ROM override the new baseband?

If the screenshot in that article means anything, the new update still has the FC04/FC05 radios. Maybe they tweaked the stock ROM a bit for better reception, but if that's the only change then the update won't help anyone running a Jelly Bean ROM. You'd be forced to go back to stock for the better reception.

Its under baseband version in about phone. Good news is you can return to Verizon.just don't tell them u bought it on Craigslist. I returned mine off CL.

Nope the store can't do anything for you. You have to call tech support and say you have a horrible data issue. Then they will mail you a new one. Return to factory before you call that way if they ask questions regarding , build number, etc. you'll have it to read .

Compared to other nexus's or are you in a bad reception area? I'm not gonna argue w you but I went through 8 replacement nexus and the only one that worked was a 09 and based off EXTENSIVE internet research that seems to be the case w almost everyone.

I've had the signal problem with both the 9 and 10. My first phone was a 10 with no problems. I have a 9 now with no problems, but had both with problems in between.
One work around I found was to switch to cdma only. Not great to not have 4g but at least data works and no dropped calls.

That's very odd cause on the 8 replacements I went through, none ever had no problems , the problems were consistent. That's odd that you had a phone with no problems and it started acting up. The 10 and 9 are made in different places from what I've been told from Verizon, and the 09 supposedly dont have the radio issue. Out of all the replacments I got, the first one (and only) to work was a 09 from Korea.

Advice on tinted screens

I am having issues with my screen. I have a yellow tint on the complete left side which is driving me nuts. I have read online of people exchanging their phones up to 4 times and having similar issues with their current device. Is it even worth exchanging, or should I just be happy with what I have? I don't want to have a messed up screen, but I don't want to go through the process of exchanging the phone multiple times. I just rooted the phone, transferred files, etc.
If you guys could tell me how many times you exchanged or if it is even worth it, please let me know.

I would say get it replaced b4 the return period ... because you'll be looking at the screen everytime you use the device and is it's main feature/selling point get it replaced , yes it's a hassle but you'll end up with a better phone with potentially no screen flaws =)

Why do you have problems with yours too? I have talked to people with the GSM version and I don't know if they have different technology or what, but I have seen people switch out their phones up to 5 times with CDMA versions. If it gets any worse I'm gonna switch it out, but I honestly love this phone way more than any other Android. Screw Sense and TouchWiz.

exactly, it's not like verizons going to bring anything groundbreaking out with the official 4.2.1 release, so really, who cares? i feel bad for the people who aren't into messing with their gnexs being stuck on 4.1.1 because verizons being a bunch of douches. as far as i'm concerned, i'm keeping this phone till it dies, and i might even buy another gnex after this one, as long as development is still rolling with it.
About two weeks ago I got mine replaced by verizon due to my phone having charging issues. I went into the store, didn't call before hand.
I had flashed back to stock before i went in. Told the girl there that it wasnt charging right and i have multiple batteries and they all do the same. she went to look up on some database if others were reporting similar issues (there were none). after giving her my phone number and 5 minutes later she said a replacement is on the way and to mail my old one back in the same box (shipping was paid for)
I was very pleased by how quick and painless it all was. She never touched or looked at my phone at all and asked hardly any questions. my phone also had a chip in the screen (about 2 cm at the bottom right, no cracks though)
the replacement phone had a sticker saying "like new" replacement but it was absolutely pristine. absolutely 100% perfect cosmetically and works great as ever (screen colors seemed better than my original one imo).
As with my luck with CNL devices, I've had nothing but problems with them from Verizon,GNex included. Hope you got a good one.
