Welcome to the club.
I had it for a week. My thoughts.
After a year with HTC Sense (Thunderbolt), I'm finally back to vanilla android, since I'm a former Nexus One owner. Atleast this should get speedy OS updates (even if there's a slight delay compared the to GSM version).
ICS is good. As you install more and more apps, and have them running in the background, it might get laggy, but thats expected.
HOWEVER, since this has the 720p display, the text, especially in the notification bar, looks much smaller (compared to my T-Bolt), especially the '4G' icon or the clock. Not a biggie for me, but the 720p display makes the text and images look much crisper.
If you do use custom roms, i suggest you keep the radio that was installed on the phone out of the box, since i tried the 4.0.4 radios and had some signal issues with it. Went back to 4.0.2 radios, and no problems since.
I have only one thing left waiting from Samsung, a proper 3-pin car dock and a hdmi desk dock.
Unlock bootloader right as you get it. This way if you decide to root and flash custom roms then you can do it without losing any app data because you'll be able to back it up using titanium backup.

I'm coming from the bionic.
First thing I love ICS and chrome just love it. Shape and feel is so nice.
I bought a battery extender(1mm larger then the regular battery) horrible got 4 hours. I miss my bionic because of how well it connected to the network.
Nexus G has a horrible time connecting I hope they fix it just like they did the bionic. It is a bit laggy but that's a soft issue for sure Google will fix it.
It seams like its slow on purpose (my opinion)
All and all only way I'll go back to the bionic is if they dont figure out the connection issues.
Hope I helped.

Its a nexus brotha what else can we say.... pure sexyness.
G Nexus
Pick up the extended battery if its still on sale for $25, well worth the money.
The best phone I have ever used....and I've had a boatload. My only complaint is that the ringer volume is low (at least on mine). My recommendation is that you unlock the boot loader first thing and root + install wifi tether. Very nice.
Overall, the best phone I've worked with. Doesn't benchmark like my old Epic Touch 4G but the Nexus has not slowed down once for me and the real life, real world performance is top notch.
Honestly, I like this better than the GS2. I wish the stock camera app was better but there is a new app called Camera ICS+ that adds many of the missing features back. Still waiting on wide screen pictures but very nice.
This is a great device and it's only getting better.

Same here. If only the ext speaker was a bit louder! Trying the Galaxy Nexus makes it hard for anyone to go back to anything else, regardless of the cons.
1 complaint: speaker volume.
1 wish: Micro-HDMI instead of MHL.
1 WTF?!: No Micro-SD slot.
I've been an android user for 3 years now and never have I been this satisfied with a device. It is everything I have ever wanted from a phone.

And waiting for the 4.0.4 update to achieve perfection.
It's the best phone on the market but still not that good.
I'm pretty excited . Just ordered my galaxy nexus from the play store. I've been stuck using a droid x2 since last year on Verizon and I'm just so sick of it being so locked down. There is an alpha ics from out for it now but its buggy.
What's the first things I should do when I get it?

Send a text?
Insert SIM card would be my first action though.
Or even better, charge it for 6 hours then turn it on
First thing i'd do was to just plainly turn it on and use it stock unrooted unlocked.
Though bear in mind that if you want to root it later you have to unlock bootloader which will wipe your phone (yes pictures and all other stuff stored).

I assume you plan to activate it on another carrier? You mentioned that you're on Verizon, but it's not going to be possible to activate your new GN on Big Red.

Put in the battery.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA
As pointed out above the GN from the Play store is the GSM version not the CDMA/LTE version. So if you are planning to stay with verizon you will need to return it and get the right phone. If you are planning to go with a different carrier then awesome, I would suggest playing with it stock at least for a little bit.
Here is the info for getting it set up on a GSM carrier http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1455014
I was on Verizon for 9 years myself and decided to dump them since they really don't offer anything different for me, from what I am getting on StraighTalk Att. My biggest mistake was not dumping carriers years ago.
When I said , what should I do first I was referring more towards the rooting/unlocking . I am aware this new galaxy nexus is an unlocked GSM phone. I am dumping Verizon and going the Straight Talk route . I have run a Straight Talk sim in my old Atrix with just some apn mods. I'm guessing my phone should work without any apn changes since its fully unlocked and the sim I ordered from ST is an At&t sim. Should have the new gn weds or Thurs.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using XDA
Congrats on dumping Verizon. They are just the worst IMO. They really ruin the Android experience will all there medalling with the phones. I can see why Google doesn't particularly like them.
You are going to have to change your APN settings on your Galaxy Nexus to get the ST sim to work. There are instructions on their website.
first thing would be....root that beast and experiment with it! its a nexus so
Download mskips tool kit and root it. Then using the same tool kit install touch recovery. After that slap on Romans aokp rom. Use the lean kernel found on rootz. I get better battery life on that kernel.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
I actually already downloaded and installed the 7.0ToolKit on my laptop. I'm ready for when my Galaxy Nexus gets here. My Straight Talk SIM, case and screen protectors will all be here waiting for me when I get home from work on Thursday. I see me dragging ass at work on Friday.

i would rather get S3 than this phone.
I just ordered one today too. Price is right to be off contract, I dont want to be stuck in a contract ever again. SG3 will be too pricey for me off contract so this will hold over for some time.
There are too many thread like this, but its nice to see anyway.
I recommend using a ruler to measure how curved the screen is which isn't so much like the previous Nexus S, but still cool.
After that, unlock the bootloader, install cwm, install AOKP rom and Franco kernel. Just make sure you're flashing the Verizon roms.
Touch it
Loving my Galaxy Nexus. Unlocked, rooted , cwm touch and I'm running aokp and Franco kernel. Its a big step up from my droid x2 when I had Verizon.

Well I received a call from a VZW supervisor asking how has my experience been with the Nexus. I stated that it has locked up a few times but the main thing that upsets me has been the update times. They apologize and say they can send me an S3 if I would like that. I gladly said yes. This is what she said " we are calling customers with the nexus that have been with VZW for more than 10 years because we have received many complaints. probably the international S3
I downgraded from an S3 to a GNexus and let me tell you, that phone is terrible. Its too big and yet it feels like cardboard ready to break at any second. The build quality was **** and the volume buttons felt like they would pop out any second. On top of that the Touchwiz that comes with is on par with low-budget LG phones. I mean the thing wouldn't stop trying to upload my photos to G+ even after i told it 50 times to stop. You can't get rid of the "Wi-Fi available" bull**** and the whole top of notification bar is ful of other retarded **** that I never used, you literally have like 1/2 of the notifications filled with useless crap. The keyboard is also modified to **** it comes with swype which has autocorrect but if you get tired of swype and go back to normal keyboard it suddenly loses its auto-correct. Overall I hated the phone and i'm glad I got the GNexus.
I feel like they may be doing this to try and get rid of nexus updates altogether by offering s3 they can just say Samsung is your problem with the nexus one it hits aosp it really shouldn't take much time to get to the end user I think Verizon is tired of supporting this phone.

I think your biggest problem is Sprint, not the phones you have
I would have told the CSR that I'll take a phone I can unlock and do whatever I want with over one that they locked down. Tell them to call back when they're offering the developer edition, which will likely never actually see the light of day.
Have you guys tried Jellybean? Do it and then tell me you hate the Nexus...you won't. It's buttery smooth with Franco's kernel and battery life is great. I had an Epic Touch and it was a great phone, but you can't give those things away...they made millions of them and that $99 bogo special doesn't help resale. I put $100 with mine and traded for a 4s and sold it for $400. People are having problems getting $200 for the Epic. Traded another 4s for an Evo lte then for my Nexus. Lte is a good phone but feels like its gonna break in half, plus I had a 1.15 hboot. Nexus' camera isn't the greatest, but it's a phone camera remember...I would however trade my Nexus for an S3
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
well if i get the option to change my nex for an S3 id go for it, and flash cm10 (i know you guys are gonna say cm10 is not the same on the nex than on any other phone) but id jus enjoy the slighly better hardware for a bit until the next nexus(es) come out in november, then id be back in the nexus line again
If this is true its not a good sign. If they decide not to carry the next nexus I will likely be moving on. Honestly I would have told them no. To me the s3 is not really much of an upgrade. The only advantage is the processor and camera.

exactly, it's not like verizons going to bring anything groundbreaking out with the official 4.2.1 release, so really, who cares? i feel bad for the people who aren't into messing with their gnexs being stuck on 4.1.1 because verizons being a bunch of douches. as far as i'm concerned, i'm keeping this phone till it dies, and i might even buy another gnex after this one, as long as development is still rolling with it.
About two weeks ago I got mine replaced by verizon due to my phone having charging issues. I went into the store, didn't call before hand.
I had flashed back to stock before i went in. Told the girl there that it wasnt charging right and i have multiple batteries and they all do the same. she went to look up on some database if others were reporting similar issues (there were none). after giving her my phone number and 5 minutes later she said a replacement is on the way and to mail my old one back in the same box (shipping was paid for)
I was very pleased by how quick and painless it all was. She never touched or looked at my phone at all and asked hardly any questions. my phone also had a chip in the screen (about 2 cm at the bottom right, no cracks though)
the replacement phone had a sticker saying "like new" replacement but it was absolutely pristine. absolutely 100% perfect cosmetically and works great as ever (screen colors seemed better than my original one imo).
As with my luck with CNL devices, I've had nothing but problems with them from Verizon,GNex included. Hope you got a good one.

I've been an HTC guy for years, I've tried a couple of Samsung's (Galaxy S(fascinate), Galaxy Nexus,S4) and I keep coming back to HTC.
Personally, I can't stand anything bigger than the Rezound/Galaxy Nexus. I returned the S4 because I couldn't find a comfortable way to hold it. The DNA wasn't much better (gave to my mother after a week)
The HTC one is a perfect fit size wise, I honestly don't know how anyone can use the note's as a phone... Just too big.
I may be sticking with the HTC one for a Long time, I love the build quality, design and the size (as compared to all the phones on the market now)

I came from the S3 and so far, it's a very nice phone. I really like how it feels in the hand when you are talking and I like how I can swype with one hand. As far as speed, it doesn't really feel faster than my S3, they feel about the same. Sense is fine, I use Nova as my primary launcher. Battery is good, better than the S3. But keep in mind, it's not unlocked right now and we don't know if any devs are working on it.
I have watched a couple of videos and they say the phone doesnt lag at all. Is this true? I had the s4 for a couple weeks. It had some lag here and there. How much screen time do you guys get

I've had 0 issues with lag on this phone, the speed is pretty staggering.
i've had the phone for a week and have been very impressed with it. Battery gets me through a day. its very fast as well i haven't noticed any lag.
I haven't seen any of these high end phones lag. I'm thinking some people just like drama. Great phone. Use my rule though be happy and make your purchase based on what is on the phone assuming it will never be unlocked. I've been pretty happy using the logic. I'm unlocked myself, but also happy running rooted stock sometimes.
Long time HTC user up until recently had the sg3/sg4/
This phone is great, I highly suggest it.
The build quality i superior to Samsung, and IMO we have a much better chance of unlock root for this phone than on the s4.
I have a good feeling I'll be selling my s4 in the near future.

All of them mention lag, stutters or sluggish UI.

Re read my post. I've used an s4 its pretty much just as good. People are biased from time to time. Also as my other post said lag is more perception at this point. These super phones do amazing things. Sometimes I think my keyboard "lags" on the one badly for instance. I also realize the other factors at play. Heck people here in this forum complain about sense 5 being laggy. My point is that lag is half perception.

Lag doesnt bother me that much as long as it isnt constant. I thought my upgrade was this month but its not until October. I think im going to call verizon and see if I can talk them into giving me an upgrade early

I'm in the same boat. I currently have a note 2 and thinking of either the HTC one or moto x. I love the build quality of the One but love that the moto x is pretty much stock android. If this phone had an unlock/root method, it would be a no brainer. I just hope something comes soon for it and then I could load a Google experience ROM or something
Decisions, decisions...
I would honestly just be happy with root. That way I can use titanium backup and some of the other root apps I use
