Hi guys,
I was wondering does anybody know how to keep the stock SMS app from waking up my screen every time I receive a message but without disabling notifications for it? Or is there a tweaked SMS apk? I dont want to switch to textra or anything like that I really love how fast and pretty thee stock app is but it really does bother me that it wakes up for every message
One of the major reasons you need root.
They removed that setting a while back. But you can still edit the shared.preferences file for the app to turn it off if you have root.

I have root, how exactly do I get that setting turned off
Root browser
Data/data/com.android.mms/
Edit mms_preferences
Find
<boolean name="pref_key_backlight" value="true" />
Replace true with false
---------- Post added at 11:50 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:47 PM ----------
You can do some other fun things in those preference files for other apps too.
Just make sure you back up the file first if you're going to play around.

Reboot.
I have are 2 non-root alternative options for people who find this thread with the same issue.
1: use Google's messenger app instead, it works just as well as Samsung's but without waking the screen.
2: enable pocket detection and either keep your phone in a sleeve/pocket or facedown (option somewhere in display settings, don't know the exact name/location because I don't have my note yet and only saw this in a display model a week ago)
this will immediately turn the screen off again if it wakes up while something is covering the front sensors.
Is there some 3rd way? I dont want to root my phone, last time i rooted it i lost like 2 days searching for something that actually WILL root my phone and second, when i finally found a program that could root my phone, IT installed like 10 apps on my phone and it was korean or something like that i just got back to stock 5.0.2 after a LOT of trouble and this thing really bugs me..
just dont want my screen to turn on when sms arrives..
Also, when i was rooted i tried to find <boolean name="pref_key_backlight" value="true" /> with no succes, is it okay to just ADD that line?
cheers

So I am trying to figure out if I am missing a setting or if I can mod the SecPhone.apk to show the length of time you where on a call with some one? On the tmobile and verizon S3 if you go to logs and select a call it will show length of time under the time of day. On my note 2 and sprint S3 it does not show this info.

What ROM are you on?
---------- Post added at 05:00 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:56 PM ----------
You can go to Call Log Or Call Statistics.. Click on the phone call you're inquiring about.. And obtain this info... Just one click away from the Call Log. No digging really.

Its showing 2 separate calls for displayed contact. Are you not able to click on those calls to bring up the info for each call?
topherk no it does nothing
xxStarbucksxx clicking either one does nothing.
On the verizon and Tmobile Stock TW versions that same screen shows a time length under the time of day called.
Wow.. That's odd. And unfortunately I haven't used TW 4.1.2 in a while.. And even when I did I never checked my call logs. Sorry.

Go to phone dialer. Tap logs. Tap number you want to know about. Tap menu again. Then View Contact. There is a history tap, tap that.
I can suggest to try this 4 step process.

Yeah by default on the Note 2 version this is also disabled. I did find in the features.xml file how to turn that on at least.

There's always SwypeDialer via the playstore. It seems a lot of people on Sprint stock have that issue. But you should be able to click or long press the call in question and it should bring up details.
Thanks for the help. I would rather modify the stock to work the way I want it instead of installing another app.

If it's enabled in VZW phones and disabled in ours, I'd bet it's a Build.Prop line item. I don't have a copy of the VZW build.prop to compare, but if you can get your hands on one and compare it to ours, you might be able to find the line item that either enables or disables the call duration display.

Yeah that is why I wanted to see about getting it like the verizon or tmobile where it is easily display. I tried using the verizon secphone.apk and no go there. hopefully a Dev can point in the right direction. thanks for everyones input on this.
I'm sure the answer is going to be stupidly obvious, but I cannot for the life of me get Tasker to disable the lockscreen (knock code) via a task.
The end goal is simply for me to enable the knock code when I am not connected to my HOME Wi-Fi, and disable it when I am connected to it at home. I've set it up similar to other phones I've used but I simply can't get it to function on the G4 (ever owned LG before so it could be a specific way to do it with them and knock codes).
Tasker is set as a phone administrator. Can anyone either show what profiles/scripts they have that DO work, or walk me through the process?
I've done it on the g3, but it requires root. Haven't looked at my g4, because I use the built in smart lock to do it with my Moto 360 now. Smart lock won't do by WiFi, but it will do by location. The on body detection for smart lock works pretty well also.
Yeah I am rooted on the Verizon version. Meaning to flash xposed haven't got around to it yet, but I know there are some modules that would do what I want. I'd just like to figure it out with Tasker if I can. Do you by chance have your G3 xml/layout still?
Here is the post I made. Haven't tested, but the values it's looking for are still present so I think it would work.

Hey guys, I'm planning to develop an app for Android and I'd need suggestions. I know that the Android app market is pretty saturated right now and there's an app for everything, but if you guys have an idea for an app please feel free to tell me. Be it an app that covers a need that other apps can't cover, or something that's already on the store but they are missing some feature, etc.
Or maybe an app you would personally need and can't find the suitable app on the store to cover you need.
Feel free to give any idea. But keep in mind I'm a beginner And sorry for my English.
I could do with an app that cooks my dinner for me ! ! !
Only joking. What category are you talking about. Do you mean some kind of Android tool?

Lol! No... I mean an app for the store. I'm just out of ideas and I wanna develop
Remember the old Nokia brick phones back in the day. Like the 6210s etc. They used to have "Profiles" where you could name your settings as to ring tone volume or silent an all that. Well by extension you could say set the silent profile on until a certain time. So what I would do (because I never switch off my phone) when I went to bed is put it on silent and set the time so the silent profile would end at Xoclock in the morning returning back to the original profile. Therefore if anyone text or called it wouldn't disturb me in the night. But then once I was up and after the time I set the profile to that was fine. I think that option died out with those phones I used to use daily. I have not seen it on any smartphone I have owned since.

Hey all, looking to get input for a working flash notification app. For when you get a text, call, app notification, etc... Perviously used a few on the Note 7 but can't seem to find one down that fully functions.
Thanks in advance!
Flashing notifications has always been a big deal to me. I've been let down in the past with some devices limitation on different lights and what not. I purchased an app a couple years ago that works great if your device can handle it. I've tested it on the pixel and it works excellent. It's called lightflow.. and here's the play store link.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rageconsulting.android.lightflow&hl=en
You do need root, and in setting - notifications - click on the gear - turn on pulse notification light (which is off by default!?!?!?!). You also need to give it rights in the accessibility menu.
Should work fine for you as it's working GREAT for me.
Good luck!

here's a free version.. not sure how limited it is.. might be good for testing purposes (but I can already tell you this is working fine).
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rageconsulting.android.lightflowlite&hl=en
also, I read on this app it doesn't REQUIRE root which I thought was required when I first purchased the app. Things might have changed. I did root my pixel and this app is working fine. If it doesn't work, it might be root related if you don't have root.

Hi guys.
Im a real big stock android fan, and so i also really like it to have softkeys.
Now, i will be upgrading to the Lineage OS for our device when it comes out of the alpha, but i would really like to have a navbar with that.
Can anyone make another thread to show us how to do it? You can just reply to this message too.
But just make kind of a tutorial, do i have to root, or not?
Just tell me how to do it please.
Thanks guys!

If you want to get a real navbar you will need root. There are some apps that allow the navbar with just a click like this one https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.fatedevgroup.softkeyenabler or you could do it the hard way by editing the build.prop but there's a higher chance of messing something up.
Just go to /system/build.prop file and add "qemu.hw.mainkeys=1" without the quotes.. Every phone has a built in Nav bars

Thanks, I haven't tried this app before, but I did try a similar app. They're all right, but the only problem is they cover a part of the screen. They are not part of the system. And that's what I'm after. But thanks anyways man!
