I belive normal folders should look like:
Documents
Music
Pictures
Downloads
Videos
Ringtones
These folders also appears in phone file browsers(native or 3rd party), before I was messing with phone I had same when I had phone connected to Windows PC

You see all this folders because you have enabled Full Files System.

You could check this worked by conecting via async and checking folders, you will tell because all will be removed, old programs etc.
Thanks that's good info. But the only thing is I can't see the screen to follow the on screen prompts. The screen shows nothing but what looks to be black & white ink

Ok now where would I find these files once I hook up to pc via async?
well its not going to work..here is the issues. the CEMAIL.vol file is in use basically whenever the phone is on. so you cant just copy or delete it or you get an error and it fails. i have been looking around a bit and havent found an excalibur specific solution this this. give me a few minutes to play around
and you will see the files in the root directory..root directory is where you will see program files, storage card, windows etc.. when you connect via activesync and browse to it with explorer..scroll down and you will see the files.
make sure you have your pc set to show hidden and system files your you wont see some things..
Ok I'll wait on the response & b sure to have pc show hidden files. I also want to thank U guys 4 ur help thus far

You know how the phone async explorer integrates with explorer on comp does this not mean you could use an unlocker and unlock the file in question then delete? Long shot.
I have an unlocker to which i could attach if any use?

its a sharing violation because that files is in use.
here is the problem. if we can go into the registry and change the path for the mms/sms and reboot...it will create a blank .vol file in the new path that was created in the registry ...therefore freeing the one that we need to delete.
or so thats my theory...let me install pim back up and back my stuff up...i have some texts i need so i cant just go deleting just yet.
yes i have yahoo IM ([email protected])

Was there any fix for the cemail, though? I saved my cemail.vol before a hard reset, and would like to restore it now, but i always get a sharing violation error.

Remove "messaging" from the Today screen so that the file is not in use, and restart. It should now be deletable.
Hi, Hope you can help, I upgraded the ROM on my dash and it kept freezing and would not connect to active sync. I reset it as it said here but it is still the same it appearts to be frozen and none of the keys work, not even the power button.

Recovering deleted video

My friend deleted a very important video from her Xperia Z1 Compact. The video was recorded with camera and stored in internal storage. Is there ANY way to recover it? Internal storage is mounted through MTP when connected to PC, so I can't do it via PC. Is there any way to connect internal storage as mass storage so I'm able to dig through it with a software on PC?
If not, there are apps for Android which can do this but they require root. This phone is not rooted and it's under warranty, but she said that the video is very important so she's ready to risk the phone and lose warranty. I've done rooting hundred times on my old X10 phone, but never on my Z1 (yes, I have it too, but c6903, not compact) so I'm a total newbie here. There's a 14.4.A.0.157 firmware on the phone currently (android 4.4.4) and as far as I know, I'll have to flash .108 first, root the device and then flash .157 again. But, would this wipe data on internal storage? If not, there's still a high possibility that something will overwrite the deleted video, since this is a free location now?
What should I do?
It might be possible to connect the phone to PC in USB Debugging mode, open a command prompt and adb pull the internal storage to the PC then dig through it with recovery software. Not sure if it will work but might be worth a try and make sure you have correct drivers installed to use adb. Good luck

Thank you for your answer! I tried this: adb pull/ \test and it pulled everything to C:\test but while it was doing, in CMD I saw a lot messages "Ignored special file ...." etc. and I tried with Recuva to deep scan that folder but it didn't found not a single one deleted file. Am I doing something wrong or it's not possible to do this in that way? Maybe another program instead Recuva?

You're saying that this is impossible or almost impossible? If it is, tell me now, before I proceed with rooting the device. Don't want to risk the phone and void the warranty for nothing.

I'm saying based on the number of times People have tried and failed the odds suggest it's more likely to be impossible than possible.
I've rooted the phone successfully and tried with Disk Digger app. It found 100+ deleted MP4 files, but if I understood right, those are not mp4 files but sectors containing mp4 data, and I can't do nothing with them. Each of them contains a few MBs and this video was 1080p and more than 5 minutes length so it should have a few hundred MBs. So, this app is practically useles, as long as it doesn't join all those sectors and give me a full video.
So I proceeded to this method: http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...de-internal-memory-data-recovery-yes-t1994705
But I have problems with it. My post with screenshoots is on the last page (last post). This thread is in the nexus forum so it could be that there's something different on our Xperia Z1 Compact. Can somebody take a look and see if I'm typing something wrong?
What are other possibilities to create a complete image of internal storage, now when I have root access?

Accelerometer is a sensor that defines a devices's position, so it gives you ability to use such functions as screen auto-rotation. And the bug is that sometimes this sensor stops working until the next reboot.
1-After format the SD with cm13, then how to back to normal SD?
2-Is right that if we use sd like part of system we can't use real system memory?
3-After formatting SD (with cm13) for using it like part of system, if we try to put it in PC and then back in the phone, it's real that the SD automatically delete all file inside it because was encrypted?
4-Can we store file like music, photo, video... on SD or it's only for app?
5-If for example i break my phone and put SD in an other phone what happen?
I know that are a lot of question but i hope someone can answer

1. Settings > Storage & USB > sdcard > menu > Format as portable
2. No, sdcard space magically adds to real internal
3. Of course no.
4. From phone: yes, photos goes there
From PC: unknown, because MTP broken now. But probably yes.
5. Data will be unaccessable because partition encrypted.
And formatted in unusual way - Windows anyway can't deal with it.
Card supposed to work only with ROM where was adopted (key stored)
UPD: it somehow works in other phone
You can format back it into FAT32 via Explorer or some partition manager.
Also seems this feature still semi-broken: large games won't install.
Maybe PecanCM can fix it.

There are often problems with Android on Windows that are absent on Linux. I had irritating issues with UMS mode in TWRP when I was using Windows (more strange is that it worked earlier and then suddenly my PC went insane when connecting USB in TWRP with storage mode enabled), but on Linux it works like a charm. And it is not the only example of problems in Android-Windows "relationship".
Guys I flashed the rom and it booted as usual and i went to next page of the setup guide i.e. add wifi in that i tried connecting to my wifi but while entering the password it shows unfortunately, aosp keyboard has stopped after i removed my wifi password and connected then it goes again to the first page of selecting country and i repeatedly pressed the yellow icon to proceed to the next page but its stucked on that page plz help me guys and do i need to do anything else?

Oh, there are a bunch! Wondering how it'll fare with the Android File Transfer on Mac. At least, ADB works, right? I need to update a few of my apps to support Marshmallow since they removed the Apache HTTP client (Google, must you really make things difficult? I spent an hour yesterday writing 75 lines of code just to add dividers between RecyclerView items... SMH). I'll most probably be shifting back to Lollipop AOSP by tonight. Anyway, if MTP works, I'll update you guys...
EDIT: So, no. Unfortunately, doesn't work on OS X as well. I didn't really expect it to, but then I was hoping that since it was UNIX, it would.
EDIT 2: So, it works with OS X as well! I hadn't selected the USB to transfer files previously.

folders displayed as unreadable files in Win10

Hi and thanks for reading my post!
All of a sudden (perhaps after trying out MyPhone Explorer) when I connected 5X to my Win10 x64 (usb debug ON, transfer files mode), Win saw three of my custom created folders (no unusual characters used for folder names) on Internal Shared Storage as files (see the attached screenshot)! Win could not copy them from phone to PC though. The three folders and their files were easily accessible within the phone and when copied to an OTG USB flash drive, they transfered to Win10 totally fine. When I renamed the three folders on the phone by adding a number at the end, Win displayed them properly as folders (previously it displayed the previous name as a file too though). Then I tried to rename the folders via Win to their proper names and they worked fine ever since. But I would still like to know what happened?
Any ideas, pls?
Best,
K
update
It appears I posted something nobody can solve
Just in case an update: the issue is not just the three folders, many more were affected within the folder tree.

Hi,
thanks for your reply.
Unfortunately none of the computers I come in touch with have Windows 7 anymore, though I loved that OS.
I assume the issue at hand has something to do with the way Android handles file system and perhaps with incompatibilities between Windows and Android (e.g. "Abc " name (with the trailing space) is perfectly legal in Android as are coexisting files named e.g. "ABC" and "abc"), but that's just a speculation.

Standard MTP bug, just clear you 'Media Storage' app data and reboot. Wait for a while to let 'Media Scanner' service sometime to finish its job.
Then you're fine.

Would you perhaps know what causes this bug, so we can prevent it in the future, pls? If it has a specific name, I will gladly google it. Too wide results googling just for "android mtp bug".

Could you expand on what you mean by "Media Storage app" -- that doesn't show up on my list of apps and searching the phone doesn't reveal anything either. Where do I find that?
I think what HebeGuess means is here (nougat):
system settings /apps/options button (upper right, three vertical dots)/show system
this reveals on the list "media storage"
hope it helps. will try it myself during the weekend

Any way to access temporary update don't files?

I am unable to update to any new build ATM because my memory is full of failed updates. My Temporary files for build updates is over 2gb and nothing I have tried can clear them out. I don't want to go through the trouble if rolling back or hard resetting, I just want the garbage gone!
I can't recall offhand which directory it was, but after enabling Full FileSystem Access and connecting to PC, I was able to locate were all of the temporary updates are stored. There were hundreds of folders in there with number and letter strings for names, so nothing is easily identifiable. And of course it wouldn't let me delete anything either.
Does anyone have any idea how to identify and delete these failed updates?

I specifically stated i don't want to do that.. But I know, because this OS is full of holes that's probably the only solution.
Still though, there has to be away to delete the files. If we can replace in-use files like the notification icons on lock screen, we should be able to remove dead update files.

Delete all in this directory? This is needless files?
In the Downloads folder i believe, yes. However they can't simply be deleted, it does not allow it. I'm taking an educated guess that this is where the update files are stored, as it's a similar directly to where the PC stores Windows Updates.
ive managed to delete the temporary files and clear up every bit of space they took up. im going to post a guide for this, so check it out if you need help.
