I have a Nexus 5x on the Cricket network and just upgraded to Nougat and am now unable to get tethering to work. I have been using the following procedure for a very long time on my 5x with Marshmallow and never had a problem with it:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-5x/general/guide-how-to-unlock-tethering-nexus-5x-t3231301
I'm very experienced in applying the tethering mod so I don't think I'm doing anything wrong. I actually ran the procedure twice and it failed both times. I also pulled build.prop off the system (after modification) to verify that net.tethering.noprovisioning=true was indeed in the build.prop file. Is there something new that has to be done to enable tethering in Nougat?
Update: I just found this - apparently there is a new procedure: http://androiding.how/enable-tethering-nougat-alongside-android-pay/

I have an issue where everything works fine on my rooted Stock ROM except the 3g.
Previously I had rooted this device (before I activated), kept everything stock except I wanted to be able to make backups with TWRP and to run Adaway so I didnt have ads everywhere. Everything was working fine on my wifi connection.
My older LG phone started having battery issues so I decided it was time to switch to the rooted HTC One V. Activated it, all seemed fine (phone works and wifi works) then I discovered the 3g is intermittent. I suspect there is something wrong at VM with my account because when I bought the next month's service after swapping phones on their site it remained at the old rate of $25. (should have gone up to $35).
This seemed great until i realized my 3g only seems to work 30% of the time, so I put in a support ticket and waiting on a return email or call.
ANYHOW, I'm guessing I'd be better off if I returned this phone to its original unrooted state before I deal with support. Is it as simple as relocking the bootloader then running the RUU on it?
In other words:
1. `fastboot oem lock`
2. Run the RUU
3. I'm good to go?
Or is there more?
TIA
To return to stock yeah that works. Bootloader will say relocked instead of locked though so that may cause some trouble with support but this is the closest you'll get to the state your phone was in when you received it.
Sent from my One V using xda premium
You will also need to reflash the original stock recovery. I attached it for you (pulled from the RUU).

Ugh... It's not flashed when the RUU is run? I did have TWRP on there.
So far I:
-re-locked
-ran RUU
-booted into stock ROM.
So now I go into fastboot and:
fastboot flash recovery recovery_signed.img ??
HTC is confusing compared to my LG phone and my Kindle Fire Tablet Pardon my ignorance!
I think I resolved the issue myself, the email VM finally sent basically had me shut off wifi and run the stock diags for the 3g connection, which seemed to work about 20-30% of the time. It then had me manually do the ##847446# re-program which seemed to do nothing. it turned out it was all a waste and a silly SNAFU.
The errors I would get intermittently were:
Data Call Failure - Error Code 104
Data Call Failure - Error Code 129
Data Call Failure - Error Code 67
Mostly 104.
How did it get fixed? Well, it's now running 3g steadily for 30 minutes 6 hours now, before it was a minute tops before failure.
Apparently, I left the phone I had swapped out running, planning to use it around the house for various boring things. It had the same MSID and MDN obviously, and apparently this was causing conflicts whenever it tried to grab an IP address from Virgin Mobile. I fixed the issue by pulling the battery on the old phone I had swapped from.
Doh!
[edit] edited to verify it actually is fixed this time. So sick of fiddling with everything over the last 2 days.
I have a Singapore release of the One M8 and last night I ran the lollipop OTA. The install went fine with no problems but for some reason today tethering is no longer working. I've tried both wifi and usb tether on multiple computers with the same problem, that is it connects fine but there is no internet access. I've done a factory reset as well to no avail. I've also tried different APNs but didn't make any difference.
Anyone have any ideas?

Are you running any kind of firewall setup? I had an issue with tethering and UDP on lollipop. The solution was to switch to a blacklist.
I currently have the firewall turned off in Windows 8.

I actually meant on the phone. Android has iptables built in. However, I am guessing that is not your problem.
At this point, I have no idea, though.

I'm truly sorry to give you a bad news, but Lollipop by default disables tethering for networks that prohibit that (and believe me, more prohibit it than allow it - sometimes this info is very well hidden in contract).
I spent a long time trying to fix it, but with no luck.
Tethering works though with networks that allow it.
I fought with that after receiving Lollipop update to my NVIDIA SHIELD tablet - a total failure. Some folks reported that after rooting it helps one, simple modification of one config file. Let me know if you decide to root your phone, so I can give you some links. Google did block tethering on purpose - the have to play nicely with network operators, right? The trick is with packet's TTL - all you get on your connected device is timeout errors.
I won't tell you more details on that because I gave up - I didn't want to root my tablet.
But don't seek errors in your PC/whatever you want to connect to your Lollipop-based access point - it ain't gonna work.
P.S. Play Store apps that don't require root and are marketed as problem solvers don't work as well. The only way is root...
My carrier doesn't block tethering. It worked fine before the update and I also checked with my carrier and tethering is permitted.
I don't mind rooting so please post the links you are referring to.

Same problem to me. After installing Lollipop on my HTC One M8, no tethering anymore. Also, for some reasons, I cannor root my phone.
Someone have the procedure to root it with Lollipop again?
I am using LG G4 US991 in Canada. It is unlocked and i am using it over Fido. With Android 5.1 I had no issue, everything was working smooth. Then i got the marshmallow updated and I had following three issues
1. Mobile data plan isn't working .... I used this link to configure the APN http://www.fido.ca/consumer/content/configure-unlocked-device-guide but no success. I factory reset the phone, restarted and tried whatever i could but still same problem ... Is it a known issue ? Is there a fix ?
the other 2 issues aren't that important as of now. Heating up and battery drain. I can live with those as long as my data starts to work.
P.S: The wifi is working with no issue.
Having this same issue but no luck in finding the procedure how to downgrade back to lollipop. My software version US991120c and it is a US cellular phone.

Thanks for letting me know. Seems like i am not the only one. Please let me know if you find something and I will let you know if i find something.
I am also having the same issue. Only wifi works, but no data connection.
Any news with this issue?
still no data connection for me.
Same issue for me, any known solution?
i am in italy & using us991 ... i also update to Marshmallow & facing same problem.. i try many things but no luck.. i think we have to wait for root this version first then problem may be solved ..... & try to downgrade can hard brick this phone .........
Did you fix this problem?
I just go the Marshmallow update and now my data is no longer working.
APN seems fine...
Hey
I'm in that same situation but I'm with Rogers. I did a factory reset, ttriple checked my APN, tried non LTE APNs, no luck.
Everything worked before the MM update.
Did you find a fix??
same issue. is there any way to downgrade?
I had the same problem on Sprint after taking the OTA. Here's what worked for me:
Connect to wifi
Go to system settings> system update
Tap each of the categories and wait to receive a pop-up saying it's completed before tapping the next one.( update PrL, update profile, etc) after each one is updated. Reboot and toggle wifi off. Mobile data should return. Again this worked for me on Sprint, I tried apns and reset to factory and nothing worked till I tried this simple approach. I am all stock, never rooted or forced an OTA. Let me know if it works or not for you
i'v found the solution.
here is a link for fix

Zenfone 2 ZE551ML on straight talk,
stock ROM 5.0.1 latest release(not beta tester).
have tried resetting APN settings
Have set APN settings to straight talk directed settings.
have multiple disabled and enabled data and disabled data caps from phone.
multiple restarts, multiple attempts to manually choose network with error messages saying cant connect at this time try again later.
AT&T should work just fine even t-mobile LTE service. they both worked a couple days ago.
ive contacted straight talk and they've had me reset and update the APN settings. had me restart the phone a few times, no luck
still receive texts and calls just fine.
any advice would be great. (if i can avoid resetting the phone to factory defaults or installing a custom ROM that would be ideal)
thanks,
I have straight talk and while I never had a problem with data I have had some other problems. Any problems I ever had was solved by dirty flashing the same rom I was running. Since you are on stock you should have no issues downloading .184 LP from ASUS and using stock recovery to update with ADB. On a side note I have been running the MM beta since it first found its way on his site and my service has never been better, don't be afraid to try it.

thanks, thats about the only options ive got left, ill have to give it a try, been thinking about jumping to the MM update anyways!
I installed what I believe to be a stock firmware manually and it's described https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-tab-s/help/installing-stock-rom-twrp-2-8-5-0-t807p-t3513896 . One thing I have noticed is that I lose my wifi password on every next connection. This is extremely annoying since I have to re-enter it manually. After searching I found old references to this which suggest some fixes: https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-tab-s/help/wifi-password-loss-t2881395 .
But I find it strange the stock ROM would contain this bug. Is the ROM I'm using a stock ROM or should I be worried regarding this? Furthermore anybody know the best fix? I'm not sure regarding a root for my device, and if I can edit the build.prop mentioned earlier.
Bump. Issue still exists. Anyone else have this issue?
I got the 807p. no issues here. what I did was install stock 6.0. then rooted using the method found here.
