Touchscreen issues - Note 7 Questions & Answers

I wonder whether this issue exists only between me and my note7..
Very often I'd have to press same thing (be it button, link, key) an extra time for the phone to actually act on it. At first thought it had to do with the way I was holding the curved screen but it does the same when it's sitting on the table for instance. Kinda reminds me of the nexus 7 similar issues a few years back.
I have tested the touchscreen already and all seems to be fine, in a test environment that is all touches register ok.
So what do you think about this, could it be just some fancy lag?

I'm having a similar experience with mine. It's not particularly annoying, but it's noticeable on a regular basis. I feel like Nova is also behaving a little differently (slightly off with accuracy when I drop icons) which I thought might be related.

I have seen the same issue. Every once in a while I have to re-select a link or touch an option one more time to get it to register. Hopefully this is just first release bugs that eventually get worked out. Not a big deal, but a tad annoying.

same experience here... encountering keyboard lag as well....

Yep ... I can confirm getting this on mine. I thought it was the screen protector at first

Could anyone confirm that the touchscreen input is lagging? I'm using the app 'art canvas' with the spen and when drawing a line around the screen it misses parts of the line, try it and please let me know if it's supposed to act that way.

The pen is the worst here. I even removed the first screen protector still have touch registration issues. Interestingly test apps such as YAMTT work fine. Did you also test the touchscreen with a similar app?

Touch screen sensitivity..do i have possibly have a problem?

it started out a few days ago. I started to feel like my touchscreen is not as responsive as usual.
I noticed numerous times it felt like my swipes as well as my touch (say when i want to open a specific app) are not being registered properly. Now the way i recall my samsung galaxy s, it would register a click sometimes even when you're hovering about 0.5mm to 1mm above it. So with that in mind, i thought i would try to do that with my one x. I would hover my hand slightly above it, and no response - NOTE: THIS IS NOT THE PROBLEM JUST YET.
Anyways, seeing as hovering over it doesn't work (which is not a problem imo) i would proceed to touching the screen, however i touch it without applying any pressure, i could even swipe and it WOULD NOT switch over to the next screen. I could touch the screen and the application would NOT register my fingers. However, after applying more pressure it suddenly gets registered. Even though the pressure i have to apply is just slight, Isn't this how a resistive touchscreen is supposed to behave and not a captivate touchscreen?
I thought that's because of my screen protector, i took it off and gave it 2~3 days and the issue remained.
Now my question(maybe even a favor) to you guys is as follows.
1. Try to click on an app, however, do this without applying any pressure, simply touching your touchscreen (might have to do this slowly). Does it respond? Or is it the same with with you as it is with me?
2. Please report in on the behavior of your touchscreen.
NOTE: I just want to know if my touchscreen is behaving normally or not. I do recall a better experience, actually if anything i was very happy with my one x's screen and this is simply annoying. Espeically when i have it on a soft surface and i push my screen, normally a soft surface tends to bulge in upon pressure.
It could take three touches for that freaking thing to register it if my phone is lying on a pullover or whatever else that's soft. Lately i'm not really happy with how webpages scroll up or down either, feels as if my swipes are lightly registered thus a sluggish movement upward or downward.. I hope this is not yet another issue that i have to deal with because my unit already had a wifi defect and, despite being happy with this device it might be my last. It's just too troublesome. Unless my stupid provider replaces it but i could keep dreaming.

0,5 - 1mm ? do you even realize how big this distance is? No way the SGS would register that... or react on that. (I come from that phone too)
with that in mind, my One X is much more responsive as the SGS or any other phone I had.
And no, I do not need to press. As the slightest pressure gives my screen ripples. not possible.
Either try another kernel if you have some custom one, I know there was some problems with those sometimes. Or factory reset if you are stock and then return it?

Well maybe i exaggerated the hovering part but within a certain (very small distance, probably 0,2 maybe even 0,1 the screen would react).
I've been from viper, to jelly bean roms, to ARHD and Maximus. Same thing.
edit: actually, 0,5 mm is hardly anything if you look at how big a mm is and put and reduce the distance by 50%, anyway that's not the discussion http://www.meb.uni-bonn.de/Cancernet/Media/CDR0000578121.jpg
Hover taps/clicks happen, I'm sure I haven't touched the screen a couple of times but it responded to what I wanted to do. Anyways, try this app called touchscreen test to confirm your issue.

Hovering also works with my HOX. And I don't have to use any pressure, hardly even touch the screen.

Very Sensitive S Pen

Good day. I'd like to consult some issues I have with my S Pen sensitivity. It's too sensitive that it triggers a tap or swipe even if the pen is away from the screen (maybe 5-8mm away). Anyone have any idea how to fix this? Firmware is XXLIH. Thanks!
Edit: Also tried turning off Air View and still had same issues.

the s-pen works with a button integrated into the tip, so it can't cause touches without actually touching something.
it most likely means your tip is broken/stuck so it constantly thinks you're touching the screen.
you can try moving the tip around a bit to see if loosens it enough to respond the way it should, but if that doesn't work you'll have to contact samsung or the store you bought your note 2 at to get either the stylus or the entire phone replaced.
replacing the stylus should be enough, but stores usually don't replace single accessories when they are included with a device.

I did that and actually worked! Pen is now stable onscreen. Will observe if this issue still persists tomorrow. Thanks for the tip (no pun intended )

Hey guys. Rather then start a new thread. I did a quick search and found this one.
I have the same issue as the OP. My pen seems too sensitive. When I scroll across apps or through the gallery, whilst hovering the pen a few millimetres above the screen, it clicks on stuff. This shouldn't happen right? It seems it does it more so in the top right corner. If any of you have the samsung weather widget on the homescreen there, all I have to do is hover the pen above the refresh button and it sometimes will just continually click on the refresh button. Its annoying. I'm just hoping its the s pen and not the note itself!
P.s I love this phone! !!
:crying:
Funny as I also had this weird behavior, and just rotating a little bit the tip loosened it up, and now all is well.
Tried to reproduce the issue with normal usage, and I wasn't able to trigger it again... will observe for a day and see what to do, as this N2 is just sweeeeet working !
Thx for the tip! :good:
Re:
No doubt i have heard several time about the problem of S Pen over sensitivity but in most cases the reason has been seen with the sensor. So, I think better is that you replace it with Samsung because i don't think there would be any other solution. The problem is related with Sensor and you should replace it as soon as possible.
Thanks guys. As you say, might be difficult to exchange it now as its only the stylus. As the phone is working flawlessly!
I'll use it for a few more days and see. Hopefully it'll loosen on it's own behalf!
I got the Same problem When I Consulted Samsung Service Centre they showed me that it is even happening in their handset

For those with issues, are you using screen protectors? I read one review where a guy mentioned a screen protector was actually interfering with the pen usage. And once he took it off it was ok. It was a matte one in specific.

I have this exact issue.
I read somewhere if you hit the back of the pen several times against a hard surface it seems to temporarily fix the issue. Something to do with demagnetizing the magnet inside the pen. Not sure if this is a load of crap, but it seems to be a temporary fix for me.
I contacted Samsung about it and they told me just to reset and reflash the firmware *sigh*. Not sure I want to do that just yet, but I will if no other solution is found soon.
I am not sure if this is right topic to write but my problem is also about s-pen. As you can see in the picture that area what is "over the s-pen holder" does not recognice the pen if immediatly. Like if I am browsing the web and scroll from that area there is always little delay. And when making note it works perfectly if I move pen to this area but not if I land the pen in this area, then happens what you can see in the picture. Does anyone else have this kind of problem?
I hope someone understood what I am trying to say.

This is what Samsung replied to me. I might as well try it to see if it makes a difference:
Thank you for contacting Samsung.
I am sorry that you are having issues with the S Pen of your Galaxy note
II, I can appreciate your frustration with this as it is a relatively
new device.
A feature of the S Pen is that when within 30mm of the screen, it
disables touch pad functionality with the finger. It should not however
actually do anything without contact with the screen.
Please be advised that the issue reported with the handset indicates
that it may need a software reset, or re-flashing of the firmware, in
order for it to operate normally again.
Before doing this, you should backup all the data from your phone before
going to Menu > Settings > backup and Restore > Select appropriate
functions from list.
If you require any further assistance, please contact Samsung again and
we will be more than happy to help.
Kind regards,
Mícheál

S pen false touching in certain areas

I've had the phone a few hours and already I've noticed the pen "touches" the screen while not actually touching in certain areas...
Like ill just be hovering over parts of the screen such as the L area of the keyboard and it triggers a touch...so when hovering quickly over the screen random things get pressed.
Am i alone or is this a wide spread problem?

I'm not finding the screen calibration option on my Note 2. Any hints as to where it can be found?
supposedly that means your pen is too sensitive? they discuss this in the international thread. under the button? on the s pen supposedly you can turn it one was to lessen sensitivity and the other to increase?
went to the sprint store and tried their display phones... their styluses worked just fine on my phone and my stylus screwed around in their phone... i brought it to their atention and they should be replacing it when they have parts or a new phone come in.
mine is doing it. too. It seems to do it only as I bring the pen near the screen where it justrecognizes it. It'll start registering and unregustering the pen causing a doubke tap that zooms or acts as touches. the gnote 10.1 pen works better with it. its worse on the edges. same on my gn101. edges are wonky.
i had a test with a coworker's gn2. the problem is not as prevalent with his and didn't happen enough to be a problem. mine stutter touches as i come in to the "zone." if i hang out about .5" area i get the stutter. going .25" or closer and it works fine. his pen worked better with mine but still had some stuttering, just not as much. i didn't test my pen on his note. i should do that next.
just tested it and it is the pen. it stutter taps on his. so either i get sprint to replace it or just buy an aftermarket one later.
holy smokes - quick search finds the stylus to be $30! contacting sprint soon.
more testing - seem that my pen is too sensitive for the phone, but it works better than the gn101's pen on the tablet. it allows finer lines with less breaking up when drawing. on the phone, the gn101's works perfectly with not false touches or stuttering. now i wish i could increase the sensitivity on my gn10.1 and decrease it on the gn2.
i called sprint and the only option is to replace the entire phone as they don't have replacement styli.
and now the solution to the problem (very low tech and brutish): slam the thing on a hard surface. not the tip! i just hit it a few times on a stack of paper and it works perfectly now.
solution was found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=33359594&postcount=5

Touchscreen weird problem - not with multitouch

Hi,
I've got brand new Nexus 7 FLO and something's weird happens to my touchscreen.
When I keep Nexus in my hands, everything works just fine, but when I, for example, put it on my sofa then touchscreen miss my touches (it detects only few instead of, for example, 20). This only happens on certain bases (for example - works perfectly when lying on the desk, but on sofa there is a problem). I have no idea what could be the problem but it's really irritating. Multitouch works perfectly when N7 is in my hands...
Anyone experienced something like that?
Regards,
Kamil

I had the same issue and even sent it to ASUS to fix. They never said what they did but when I got it back it did not have the screen protector on it. So I put one on it and within a few minutes started having the same issue with it not responding unless I was holding it. So I took the screen protector off of it. I no longer have the touch issue, but now I don't have a screen protector either. So if anyone knows of a good screen protector that will work please let me know.

It was a static dry method. I will have to get a "wet" style screen protector and try it as you suggest.
This all falls under the same category of the touchscreen problems It isn't specific to multitouch, that was just the first of the initial findings.
The problem is a sensitivity problem with the grounding somewhere in the device. When you have the device laying on a non-conductive material (desk, couch, table, etc) it isn't getting grounded properly or hitting it's grounding threshold to properly register a touch.
This is where sfhub's fix comes into play. It corrects the grounding thresholds (I guess) so that the tablet is responsive in this type of situation (one handed) as well as multitouch and stickiness or wonky behaviors.
Removing a screen protector *CAN* improve this, but you are better off flashing the fix until Google releases a patch.

Edge of screen touches not registering

Anyone else having issues where touching the edge of the screen but the phone not registering it?
Like in chrome or gmail or any other app that has the menu button at the top right of the app. I hit the 3 dots but nothing happens. I've even tapped multiple times in a row with nothing registered.
Seems I have to go further into the screen where the curved part stops and the screen goes back flat before the touches are registered normally.
I'm curious if this is normal or not, I'm seriously considering returning the phone for this so I want to know if it's just me or not.
Getting the same thing on mine. Only really noticed it on the keyboard trying to get characters on the very right edge. Already got used to it though and just changed how it tap those characters. Should really be fixed by Google though - even if it's just a software sensitivity thing. You're the first other person I've heard of that has seen this though, so....not at all sure how common it is.
I've noticed it to a few times, particularly in the top right corner.

Yep. Happens on the right side constantly.
Yes, a game that I play doesn't scale properly for the different ratio, and not only am I missing stuff hanging over the edges, but I also can't tap on stuff right at the edge. I am definitely remembering why I don't usually get day one phones (or 2nd generation phones, it seems like the 1st gen is always cool but lacking, 2nd has all the features but none of them work, and 3rd they finally fix all the problems... 4th and later are then usually boring).

No screen protector. I am using a case, but I took it off and tested and get the same problem without the case too.
Noticed the same thing here on both the left and right side particularly when using the keyboard.
I've noticed something else though, I can run my fingers along the edge and it will scroll. But tapping in the same spot doesn't register so I am thinking it is software filtering out the touches.

Same problem here... Notice it mostly on lower right. Keyboard and thumbs up in the messenger.
Same with me. I had extreme difficulty registering a key-press when typing a '0' on my keyboard earlier today. As on a normal keyboard, the '0' is on the right edge.
I cannot however seem to recreate the issue now.

Just found this app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mycompany.anton_mokshyn.touchscreentest which lets you test the touch screen detection. With it I'm finding that the edges of the screen often require two touches to get them to register. I'd be interested to hear what others are seeing.
I feel like I'm the only one who got a non defective pickle. I've literally experienced none of the issues going around in these forums. Thank you lawd
