Hi, I've problem with my g3. When I'm using it outside outdoors when it's not dark yet or while indoors and with lights on everything is fine. The nightmare starts when I use it when it's dark. When I get my phone out of my pocket I can't wake it up, doesnt matter if either I use knockon or Power Button. I need to go to place where light is sufficient for my phone to wake. However if I sleep the phone when it's dark I can wake it up again, even if I put in pocket or something for few seconds. But after like minute when it's asleep and in dark then I can't wake it again. I'm not using any screen protector at the moment, I thought it was it's fault or something (it was cracked but nowhere near proximity sensor) so I put it off, but it didn't change anything. Using G3 32GB D855 with fullmics 5.1 or 5.2 ROM + stock kernel. I'd be happy if anyone could provide any help
Just update your rom to 6.1 now. It might get fixed. Fulmics 6.1
Yeah, did it yesterday night, problem solved

Noticed recently that When a phone call is in progress, the screen will go black no matter what and to get it to come back i have to manual hit the top power button.
I first noticed it with energy rom. When autobacklight was enabled, their was no getting back to screen at all. Disabling autobacklight at least allowed me to get the screen back after clicking the power button.
I switched to core cell rom and noticed the same issue, however, i can manually turn the screen on again even if autobacklight is enabled.
I have no further problems with the proximity sensor, just this one.
Is their perhaps some sort of proximity app that i could use to diagnose whether this is a hardware problem or software problem?
Ok, I had a similar issue, where the phone screen would turn off as soon as the "send" button was pressed, and the only way to turn it back on was either hanging up, or waiting till it felt like coming back on.
My proximity sensor was stuck "on". I could see the sensor status in the registry (don't remember offhand the reg entry, but it's a live reading of the sensor, 1 or 0). I installed "Proximity Sensor for Screen Off v0.2" from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=624206
That was a mistake on my part, though... then the screen wouldn't come back on! It took some real finagling to get the screen on.
To fix it (temporary? permanent? dunno...) I waved a small neodymium magnet over the sensor (near the ear speaker). I have no clue why that worked. I don't know why it stopped. I *definitely* don't know if that's the issue you are having. But it's worth a shot
I've never had this issue after many different iterations of the Energy ROM.
Do you run Task29 when you flash ROMs?
Yeah i always task29. I don't believe it is the rom since i have tried another rom and the problem persisted. I tried the magnet idea but it didn't work. It was a refrigerator magnet though so i didn't expect it to. Anything else that requires the prox. sensor to work, has no problems and that is why this is weird to me.
Is this a known bug?
When I use the power management widget and toggle the screen brightness to the lowest. Then when I go to stand-by (by clicking powerbutton or automaticly) and try to activate the phone again the screen stays black (touch buttons light up but I can't use them).
I have to take out the batterie and reboot to get the screen back...
I'm so happy to see this.
I have exactly the same problem. My Wildfire S arrived this afternoon. I used it without any problems until about 22.30, then all of a sudden it wouldn't get out of standby anymore. The only way to get it working again is indeed by removing the battery for a second.
I did a factory reset (through the general phone menu) and now the problem has disappeared, but it could come back any second.
Other people experiencing the same problem?
This is a phone bought in the Netherlands where I live by the way, the black Wildfire S.
I had the same problem.
I had my wildfire s mount to usb... and using the navigon software while driving... then suddenly went to black screen with the keys activated.
I tried to enable the screen but with no luck.
When I unplugged the usb...I push the power button... and suddenly it came back to normal.
!!
very strange.
well... I found a sort solution for this.
If you do what you said.... the only way to enable it again is to plug a usb...and unplugged it.
!!!!!
The bug starting when we enable the lowest brightness!!!!!!!
I'm having the same problem. If you don't set the brightness to the lowest, it won't happen. So, this will be consideration between stability and use duration
Just the Backlight is turned off.
I have the same problem. Use an external light source and bring light to your wildfire S and you'see it is still alive. If you are able to find your brightness settings using the flashlight, increase it and you will have your old display again... It is definetly a bug.
Hi,
so any news on this bug or whether htc is doing something about it?
Just got my WF S with the most recent software and still has this bug which is very annoying. Would be great to be able to use lower backlight for nights/less battery!!
UPDATE: using continuous lightness, I found that whenever I choose light lower than 12% it stays dark and has the bug, please HTC do something about it!!!
Has this been fixed in a custom rom or does it presist in all roms?
I had it on original and custom (CM7.2) ROMS.
Think this is general bug, too bad. or someone does NOT have this bug??
I have this bug too. But u can Try to Pull the ring in the middel, Then the Screen shoudl appear again.
I do not have this bug.
Stock European ROM 2.3.5, jikantarus OC Kernel, BL unlocked and rooted
I was wondering if someone has noticed similar behavior on their G3. My G3 is 100% stock and is only a week old. Wherever I wake up my device, about 5 seconds after turning it the screen has a small flicker and the screen seems to auto adjust or calibrate. This only happens once every time I wake up the device. My auto-brightness is set to off and the screen is at 100% brightness. I did some tests and noticed that when I wake up the device with the top sensors covered (proximity, front camera etc), that the screen doesn't have this flick to it. Is there some sort of "outdoor" mode or something on these where the screen will self calibrate when it notices it's in a bright situation?
Please test on your devices and let me know if you see anything similar to this. I tried taking a video but it's so quick and subtle that the video doesn't show it.
mine does same. vzw. covered sensors, still brightness adjustment.
only just now noticed today, but could have been happening all along.
I think it has something do with the proximity sensor. If you cover the sensor with a note pad you cannot turn on the screen, prob a tap to wake feature so it doesn't turn on in your pocket. But if you lift the note pad just enough to turn the screen on and quickly cover it, mine does not flick. I have tried this many times and worked 100% of the times.
My friend who works for at said that his does the same as well as the demo. Must be a weird firmware issue. Hopefully its resolved in the next ota
How many times are you gonna make this thread?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/help/screen-flicker-t2826882
Has anyone else noticed that when in a dark area, pressing the main button will turn on the screen but it will then automatically and immidiately turn off?
Several times I've gotten into a battle with the phone only to lose, turning it on and it turns off, then turning it on again and so on...
To compound the issue, in these situations it seems that double tap is signifigantly less responsive to activate the screen as well.
I'm pretty sure this phone is using some sort of facial recognition, it has smart stay doesnt it? I think it has gravity/accelerometer to turn on the screen when you pull it out of your pocket. In the back of my mind I'm thinking that since it cant see me it is shutting off but this doesnt seem consistent...
I'm running stock rom, rooted with twrp. Any ideas?
I have not experienced that. Did your G3 do that out of the box?

Never heard of it. Screen is set to auto off in 30 seconds. Change it to 2 min and you should be good. If u running without a case then maybe the hand is touching the edges of screen this will also shut screen off in double tap.
BAD ASS G3

I didn't notice it until the last week or so. but I kind of feel like that was because I hadn't used the phone that much up until then. I didn't make any major changes to the phone immediately before I started noticing it either, I had already had it rooted for about a week. I feel like the stock rom does have some glitches to it.
The G3 does have a "smart screen" feature that detects your face (Settings > Display). Disable that and see if it helps.
I've not run into this in the dark but have when I try and use my arm band holder when running. The holder covers the ambient light sensor so the phone thinks it was accidentally turned on like in a pocket and shuts right off. Super annoying.
Noticed similar behavior when the phone is in my bike mount at night. Basically it's acting like the proximity sensor is covered. In my bike mount's case, it is covered by a clear screen cover, but normally that doesn't trigger the proximity sensor. But when it's very dark out (not under a street light etc.), it seems to think it's blocked and turns itself off. Annoying.

Have you tried disabling smart stay as sublimaze recommended?

Lol.
I have the same issue EVERY night. Why is that? It's very annoying
Same issue here
it seemed to resolve itself when I factory reset my phone
but after I got my apps reinstalled from my google backup it started again
so it seems like it's a software issue - not sure to which app it is related to
let me know if you find a fix - this is quite annoying
Me too. I've been facing this issue at night, when it's very dark.
Me and my buddy were in the car during a roadtrip and it was very dark, I mean like: No lights outside, no lights inside the car, the double tap feature didn't even work to begin with and whenever I tried to use the "Power Button" It would come on and then suddenly 'boom' Turn off, now this would happen a few times until it stays on. Weird...
I just experienced this myself, first time I've seen it happen in the 30 + G5's that I've sold. If it's in the dark it just doesn't turn on at all. I hope LG is fixing this. I'm about to Factory Reset it right now and hope for the best! Someone else mentioned that this is the only forum that is disccusing this issue. It must be a very few that are effected. I'm testing another one as we speak.
Has this issue been resolved? My friend's G3 also has this issue. Day time no problem. When it is dark the screen wont' stay on.
Same problem, no fix yet
Same problem here - Pointing it at any light and pressing the power button will turn it on. (As will plugging it into power). Tried tinkering with all sorts of settings (face recognition/auto dimming feature/etc) nothing worked. Tried factory reset, that didn't work either.
My issue started after i had my screen replaced (by a shady shop) who probably didn't do a good job of packing it back together....I'm going to see if I can have someone open it up and clean it out a bit..
I have the same issue on my G3. Even if you're under the covers in bed, the thing doesn't turn on until it gets light. It basically doesn't turn on in the dark through double tap and actually not even with the power button. It could become a safety hazard for someone in an emergency situation.

I have also same problem. No solution yet.
Hello guys,
Reading around this seems to be a rather common issue among lg g2, lg g3 and lg g4 users.
the first one regards the light sensor. In relatively light environments, the light sensor value is too low, leading to the screen turning off soon after hitting the power botton and disabling the double tap. The same thing happens when you cover the sensor with the finger and is meant to be active while in our pockets, which is great, but the problem itself is very annyoing.
Initially I thought this was due to a software problem, but after performing a kdz reset on KK (from lollipop) I can assume that it has nothing to do with the OS.
The problem seems to diseappear soon after the reboot, but reappearing shortly after and it appeared later in the life of the phone, it worked fine for a long time.
But the first issue to appear to is the proximity sensor issue. Most of the time it is set to "near" even though there is nothing covering it. I opened the phone, cleaned it, hard resetted but still nothing. no solution seems to be effective. Of course this is very annoying during phonecalls and this is also disabling the double tap feature.
In a normal room situation during the evening with the light turned on and my body projecting a shadow over the phone, proximity: "near" and lightsensor: "2"
The combination of these 2 problems is making my experience with the G3 very unpleasant.
I don't who builds sensors for LG but they are not doing a great job!
So if you have the same problem you are not alone!
some tricks that I "learned" in order to overcome these problems are.
1) Light sensor:
- point the device towards a light source to unlock the device
- repeatedly press volume up after pressing power button to prevent screen turning off
2) proximity sensor
- reboot the phone before a phonecall
- running a device test through 3845#*855# (international version of the phone)
- using bluetooth systems during calls
- using headphones
If somebody has additional suggestions to provide me and the others please share.
Thanks!
