Is this a known bug?
When I use the power management widget and toggle the screen brightness to the lowest. Then when I go to stand-by (by clicking powerbutton or automaticly) and try to activate the phone again the screen stays black (touch buttons light up but I can't use them).
I have to take out the batterie and reboot to get the screen back...
I'm so happy to see this.
I have exactly the same problem. My Wildfire S arrived this afternoon. I used it without any problems until about 22.30, then all of a sudden it wouldn't get out of standby anymore. The only way to get it working again is indeed by removing the battery for a second.
I did a factory reset (through the general phone menu) and now the problem has disappeared, but it could come back any second.
Other people experiencing the same problem?
This is a phone bought in the Netherlands where I live by the way, the black Wildfire S.
I had the same problem.
I had my wildfire s mount to usb... and using the navigon software while driving... then suddenly went to black screen with the keys activated.
I tried to enable the screen but with no luck.
When I unplugged the usb...I push the power button... and suddenly it came back to normal.
!!
very strange.
well... I found a sort solution for this.
If you do what you said.... the only way to enable it again is to plug a usb...and unplugged it.
!!!!!
The bug starting when we enable the lowest brightness!!!!!!!
I'm having the same problem. If you don't set the brightness to the lowest, it won't happen. So, this will be consideration between stability and use duration
Just the Backlight is turned off.
I have the same problem. Use an external light source and bring light to your wildfire S and you'see it is still alive. If you are able to find your brightness settings using the flashlight, increase it and you will have your old display again... It is definetly a bug.
Hi,
so any news on this bug or whether htc is doing something about it?
Just got my WF S with the most recent software and still has this bug which is very annoying. Would be great to be able to use lower backlight for nights/less battery!!
UPDATE: using continuous lightness, I found that whenever I choose light lower than 12% it stays dark and has the bug, please HTC do something about it!!!
Has this been fixed in a custom rom or does it presist in all roms?
I had it on original and custom (CM7.2) ROMS.
Think this is general bug, too bad. or someone does NOT have this bug??
I have this bug too. But u can Try to Pull the ring in the middel, Then the Screen shoudl appear again.
I do not have this bug.

I've had this issue with five different ROMs including the stock HTC ROM. It doesn't do it when the ROM is flashed freshly but starts within an hour or so, regardless of whether I load any other software on.
Here's exactly what happens. It doesn't matter if the unit is in standby or if the proximity sensor is activated. (On a phone call with phone by head - backlight is disabled.)
When the backlight is off and is activated by either pressing the power button or moving the phone away from the head, the backlight comes on dim, then goes off, then turns back on at regular brightness. The delay between activating the backlight and reaching regular brightness is around one second.
What is going on? This is really annoying. If I'm on a call and want to mute the mic, I take the phone away and "flash, flash, mute". Then I want to unmute and the same thing.
I don't have any software on the phone right now that most of the rest of you don't have. I've got:
AT&T keyboard fix
Dusk lockscreen
PHM Regedit
Safe Inbox Extender
Clock flip disable
1% battery driver
Theme pack for 1% battery icons
I've reflashed and installed none of this software and the issue doesn't occur. Without installing any software, the issue recurs within a day. (Usually within an hour)
Any help or insight would be appreciated.
Hey guys so my Tilt 2 has been having an issue when I put it to sleep. It goes to sleep fine, but when I wake it up the screen remains black. The actual device turns on, but the screen stays black. I can still make calls, receive calls, play music, etc. but I have to soft reset the device if I want to be able to see what I am doing.
From what I can tell my problem is different from the normal Sleep of Death issue where the device simply won't wake up.
I've searched through the forums looking for solutions and have tried pretty much everything from doing a hard reset, using different roms, formatting the internal memory, etc. Even after doing all of this, my device still suffers from this issue.
Any insight into my problem would be greatly appreciated!
I assume you've tried a simple reset using the reset button or pulling the battery out and putting it back in?

Yeah every time I the screen goes black I soft reset it in order to get the screen to turn back on. The problem is that the issue persists through soft resets. I currently can't suspend my device because I can't get the screen to turn back on...
hold down the volume down button and then press the reset button (the physical reset button) this should bring you into your bootscreen the multicoloured screen.. if you can get there then you can flash a new rom on your phone... and thats a whole other ball game. It gets a lot of hype as being hard but its really super easy to do if you just follow the directions.
Tilt 2 dark screen solved
With the tilt 2, if the screen does not wakeup, but you can answer the phone, hear music, etc..., it is a malfunctioning light sensor, maybe hardware, or software related (drivers), but it is fixable. Just eliminate all calls for use of the light sensor.
I had this problem and took quite a while to figure it out, as there are several apps that poll the light sensor that cause problems.
First, go to start/settings/system/power/backlight and uncheck the auto adjust backlight option
Second, go to start/settings/personal/buttons/backlight and uncheck the enable keyboard auto backlight sensor.
Last, open advanced config (need to download and install from touchxperience.com, if you do not have it), tab to light sensor and set light sensor polling to disabled.
Now, my phone works normal and will wake up properly from standby like it should. this all seems hardware dependant, as I have in my family 3 of these things and I dropped and broke mine, so bought a new one (4th in the series) and it had the SOD issues, but could restart with softrest. Took me the better part of the day to find a reliable fix, but now all is well again.
Hope this helps other Tilt 2 and similar issues.
Hello,
Yesterday when I was done working and got my phone from my locker, I opened an app and immediately
the screen went black and appearantly the phone had switched itself off. I turned it back on wondering why
it did this, but as soon as it had started up and the home screen appeared, it turned itself right back off.
I tried turning it back on about 7 or 8 times until the battery ran out and I could not try anymore.
When I got home I put it on the charger and fortunately the phone stayed on, however the top of the screen
seemed to be 'trembling' a bit and some pixels were changing from light red to dark red to light red etc. (my home screen is red)
I decided to leave it charging overnight and when I woke up, the trembling had disappeared. I took it off the
charger and after scrolling through my Facebook news feed, found that battery percentage was decreasing quite
quickly considering it's on power saver mode. I thought it might be that the screen brightness is too high, so I went
to settings and tried to adjust the screen brightness, however it is not responding? My screen brightness stays
exactly the same no matter whether I increase or decrease it, and when I was doing that the phone switched itself
off again. I put it back on charge now and turned it back on, but I am quite annoyed about this issue because I
do not know what it is and my phone is only 5 months old. I hope any of you can shed some light on the situation.
Summary of the issues:
- Phone switching itself off
- Screen trembled yesterday
- Battery decreasing quickly
- Brightness setting not working
Info about the phone:
- HTC One X 5 months old
- Android 4.2.2
- No adjustments made to the phone with rooting or any of that
Thanks!
Must be a hardware failure if you havent changed anything software-wise
Is it overheating?
Is it under warranty?
And other sensors are working? But like TTG TriCkSh0tZz said , use your warranty if you can.

Hello, my Xperia Z5 Premium(E6853) has had some issues with it's screen recently. It started as a flickering of the brightness. I flashed a few different FTF files(The Austrian T-Mobile one and the generic Italian one) but the problem still persisted. The flickering was making the device near unusable out of annoyance. So I stopped using it and switched back to my Xperia z3 dual until I could find time to try and fix it. However now the display refuses to turn on at all. I reflashed the FTF file making sure to wipe everything but the screen still refused to turn on. What are my options in regards to fixing this situation.
I would prefer not to ship it all the way back to China if at all possible. I checked with Sony care CA and USA. Both are unable to help.
Hello, how did your screen flicker? Mine ( E6853) changes brightness weirdly when it is close to screen timeout locking, it's like normal brightness then high and then normal again. I am scarred it might end up like yours a possible fix might be disabling auto brightness, I will try it on mine and let you know.
About your os flash, try reflashing the original files if you saved then and also make sure you are not using the dual sim ftf on your single Sim.

I atempted to flash my original files, it did not help. The flickering was a 2-4 hz flicker, like a florescent bulb that is about to die. My Z5 also did the brightness changing thing that you described, however my D6503 and D6633 also do the same thing so I would not worry about that too much.
I turned off auto brightness and the problem disappeared. Try charging the phone for 30min then open the sim flap and you can see in the left a small white button press it for 2 minute and the phone should vibrate ignore the vibrations and keep the button pressed, after this try to power it on, this might help. You can also try the repair my phone in the software update tab on pc companion.

PC companion "repair my phone" does not work with modified software. I also tried holding the hard reset button down for 2 min, no change occurred. I contacted sony mobile UK and they said they would repair it out of warranty. At this time this is what I will probably do.
Hi all. I have a rather weird issue. After droping(oops) my phone, I ordered a new lcd. I shelved the phone as it was unusable until the screen arrived. When the screen arrived, I saw that the battery was dead. I charged it and changed the lcd. That's for the backstory. Fast forward to now. When I open the phone, the screen lights up at full brightness as one would expect at the android one logo. It stays there at full brightness for about 8secs But as soon as it starts loading android the screen dims to absolute dark. In the beginning I thought the phone was closing, you can't see anything... Unless you close the lights.
But even in absolutely dark room, the screen is still very dim, barely discernible. The phone works absolutely fine otherwise, touch camera sound etc. I backtracked the process and put it's original screen on, but it does the same.
I tried disabling auto brightness it does nothing. In fact, changing brightness from the slider does absolutely nothing whatsoever.
Tried calibrating the sensors from the engineering menu(not sure it was called that, the one you enter when you put numbers on the call menu) they seem to be working, but the brightness doesn't change.
Tried removing the battery for a prolonged amount of time (around 6 hours iirc). Still same.
At this point i'm thinking:
1)Software problem. I will really need to hard reset the whole thing, which i'd rather not, and hope for the best.
2)Bad screen, which doesn't explain why the previous one has the same problem, or why the screen works during the logo.
I hope I was able to give enough info. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Hi, I'm having almost the same issue (display very dim, but for me it is always very dim) and this manifested not after any dropping or screen replacement, I guess I just wrongly inputed a button sequence that configured the mobile in this weird status. It is really annoying as it is almost impossible to unlock sims, basically the phone is unusable, very frustrating....
Hey there, did anyone found a solution for this issue?
Has anyone solved this problem?
Have you found what was causing this?
I’ve the same issue, replaced the lcd on a xiaomi mi a1 and the backlight is present at the logo startup but completely black after that.[br]
On a dark room I can barely see the screen and all it’s working, but adaptive light button is missing, seems like the bootloader is able to use the backlight but not android itself
I have the exact same problem, i really hope someone knows a solution to this. I tried pretty much anything within my capabilities
