Noob here who has decided on Samsung note 10.1 for my first tablet ... but which one? Looking for fastest performance and longevity. Does the added mobility of 4G degrade performance during WiFi operation? ... are there disadvantages other than related costs?

I will advice the 4G version because it have the Snap800 like processor and have the 4G that is better and faster like 3G.
Finally, the Snap800 will have more support from dev then the 3G with the Exynos by Sammy
The trade-off will be reduced battery life most likely if traveling in weak LTE areas.
I'm leaning towards SD800, especially after what I saw in the picture

I wouldn't say that the sd is faster just yet, there are no real benchmarks out there just yet for the new octo core 5420, based on the few cryptic leaks they seem to think that the new octo might be a tiny bit faster. Im not going to jump to any conclusions just yet, I would preffer the sd800 on my device if only for the cyanogenmod support
Will you be able to use this device as a phone? As in does it have a dialer that you can use with a regular SIM like the old one?
I'm getting the one with the Snapdragon processor in it.
Sammy promised that they will include HMP (Heterogeneous Multi Processing) in their 5xxx processors . Ie; they will make s4,note3 and note 10.1 to real octa core processors through a software upgrade (say kernel upgrade)...so guess , which will have higher performance , sd or exynos? ? ? ?
And also exynos version will have wolfson audio DAC in it , so exynos defeats sd in audio performance

I would welcome an LTE model on Verizon except it will be limited to 16GB of storage and I just won't accept that. You need 32GB or higher internal storage for apps not medial content that is what the microsd is for.

I think I read that the phone version (which won't be sold by US cellular companies) is limited to 2G. I would love to hear differently.

Whoa..that's completely unacceptable (I'm Verizon). Agree on 32 min. Where can I find spex on Verizon's version?
The spec sheet Mashari_F posted helps differentiate among variants but I'm still not clear.
I'll likely have to wait until later in Nov. for my own good ... see how users are feeling about SD VS. OCTA and see what Verizon puts out vs. Wifi.

16GB should be fine, I have tons of apps and games installed on my 16GB old note 10
and still have 4-5GB left, if you are planning on installing huge games like nova 3 (I think it takes up 2.2GB) then you might want to consider the 32GB instead
if you root and have a nice size microsd handy, you really wont have to worry about it

And Snap800 version will be better then Exynos
See the S4, the S600 have more support that Exynos Octa...
We dont know which is more powerful yet, this is the new octa core, not the old one

Samsung released the kernel source for the Exynos version a few days ago (sammobile.com/2013/09/20/samsung-releases-kernel-source-for-galaxy-note-10-1-2014-edition). I'm not very familiar with all the lingo, so please enlighten me: Is this not (all) the source code that devs need to do their thing?
Can someone explain why someone buys an expensive note 10.1 only to install cyanogenmod and lose all the exclusive features? (Spen, multiwindow, ir blaster, and some other things)
Just buy a nexus 10 or wait for the new one if you are going to do that

The big problem there isn't the source code, this was an older problem, but the structure of the partition and the core.
If a dev will build a kernel, the source are here.
But, trust me, snap have a source code more easy, it's quadcore, and we know all about this.

SD 800/801 chips are not officially supported anymore because of Vulkan and OpenGL ES 3.1. According to Sony OpenGL ES 3.1 is as of now mandatory for Nougat.
It's up to Qualcomm.
From No, from devs maybe. Here is my two cents: This vulkan thing is the dumbest **** Google could do. Now a there are phones that don't support vulkan, but still getting nougat. It just pisses me off that now my perfectly 2 year phone won't get the update and especially since my m8 is the GPE edition. Thanks googke for wanting unnecessary BS and QC for being assholes.

Andoird Naugat (or what ever the hell is Nougat). Supports BOTH Vulkan AND OpenGL.
So the developers should be able to port it to the M8.
Like what the hell Qualcomm. The 801 is very popular even when the 810 is released. The BS is the flop of the other chipsets make Qualcomm stopping support for the 801 chipsets. Greedy people forcing us to buy new phones EVEN THOUGH the 801 is still a well powered chipset.

Could this mean that sooner or later, they might drop the support of the OP3 due to how they have to work on updates for both phones? They have slightly different specs so that might mean they have to work on two different sets of updates right?
There is slight difference in OP3 and OP3T, basically in Soc. OP3T will obviously require different drivers etc and they definitely will not care for the older one. You know what, they have released 7 beta updated for OP3 but nothing worth noticeable is there in these updates except their try to push own bloatware. Some of the OEM have updated their devices to nougat but not Oneplus. If LG can make their device updated to nougat out of the box then why not Oneplus. If they release nougat for OP3 than it will have negative impact on sale of OP3T which they never let happen. They will be updating OP3T to nougat and OP3 will get it after few months

Both devices get Nougat this year. According to their stream updates will be brought out sameoutaniously. Also the OP2 and OPx will get Nougat but not this year.

The OPX will not get official Nougat as the 801 doesn't pass Google's certification as Qualcomm is not updating the drivers to support OpenGL ES 3.1.

Don't speculate. Wait and see.
OP are vastly smaller than LG or Samsung, there isn't simply the quantity of devices out there as OP can't manufacture that many. So they're taking advantage of the newer hardware and quickly updating to the newest CPU, rather than continuing to manufacture devices on older hardware. This is why OP3 has been discontinued.
Software-wise, again, they don't have the development team to get Nougat out to us 'RIGHT NOW', but we've been promised it by the end of the year on both devices. I've been very pleased with the amount of updates and community builds so far.
OP4 will hit probably six months from now and that maybe an incremental update again, unless we see a snapdragon 830 or something!
The A50 differs from the other A-series devices in terms of having an Exynos 9610 which has seen practically zero development and poor GSI compatibility. However, finally we have an Android One device with practically the same chipset.
The Motorola Action One comes with the Exynos 9609 which is the same as 9610 apart from having a 100 MHz lower clock speed. In the past, we had instances of Android One firmware being ported to similar devices, so it is possible for a capable developer to be able to create a functional port.
Of course, bugs are inevitable, especially in the areas of camera and wireless connectivity but hopefully with the right combination of blobs it might be possible to have a daily driver. Again, at this point there is nothing more to go on rather than hope, but it is great to have a sister device running stock Android.
So what do you think about future development prospects? Is there any developer with an A50 willing to have a go once the firmware for the One Action becomes available?

Motorola one vision is already out since May, and it's exynos 9609 as well, running Android one.
You can check one vision forum if anyone is interested in system/vendor dump. I got it uploaded a while back.

From what I've read these are all on Android 10, not much more information than that other than, TCL have promised 1 more major OS update which is to android 11, probably sometime next year. To be honest I think that's awful, most OEMs do 2 major updates at least. Might have something to do with the processor only being the Snapdragon 635. This time in 2 years, even low budget devices will have stronger processors. The only reason I've not looked in to rooting this, is coz I am not confident enough for it to last so would need the warranty.
