Hi All,
I'm thinking of getting this phone, but I have a question or two.
I saw in a thread here that there may be issues moving apps to the SD Card. adoptable storage was suggested as the solution.
I was under the impression that HTC had disabled adoptable storage...is that not the case?
Also, when I tried it on my Sony device, some apps (GTA, iirc) complained that they needed an SD card to function. Is there a known workaround for this?
Essentially, I am concerned about storage in general. My current phone is rooted so it's not an issue for me right now, but I would not be rooting the HTC if I get one.
Any help / suggestions would be much appreciated.
Cheers,
DF

P.S. Moving apps to ext sd card is rather stone age - when hTc 10 is the best device your money can buy..

Lol, I don't remember where I read it. I know originally the reviews said that HTC were one of the few who didn't disable it. Then shortly after someone said that they had gone back on it. Obviously incorrect!
Do you use it? Have you come across any issues / incompatibilities?

23 GB of available internal storage must serve your apps...
SD card is anyhow much more vulnerable and intended for storing your DATA..
You might one day need to pull your sd card out..

After formatting your sd card as a part of internal memory - it physically remains ext sd card.. (or you believe in miracles?)
Writing speed into the internal storage is about 160 MB/s when writing speed to your sd card is more likely around 30-40 MB/s...

converting an external sd card to adoptable memory isn't advisable due to many reasons but still kept for users who has pushed their internal memory cap....
1) more chances of your data getting lost
2) you cannot read your card as a standalone sd card once its adoptable storage unless you format it back to external memory
3) speeds would vary still when apps are loaded from an adoptable memory
4) can't switch between phones the sd card unless you format it back to external memory again (this i doubt still)
theres a xposed module I believe that will allow apps to sd support.
my phone gets too hot using adopted storage with my 200gb Samsung pro+ and performance suffered so I quit using it
on a newer cheap phone with only 8gb storage I'm using the adopted and that don't seems to have the issues like the htc 10 of heat/ performance loss

beware do not use more than 2gb in the sd card reader of your universal!.
i screwed up 2 of my cards permanently. 4gb and 8gb. both got reformatted to 2gb and now they wont go back to 4gb and 8gb. its like i never had a 8gb or 4gb to begin with....
i am really sad, and i cant seem to get the tech support to reply or any faq's available on sandisk to help me.
i will be exchanging them for the 2gb cards. i guess i am going to have a huge stack of 2gb cards. this time most likely i will go for mini-sd.

Do you mean partition the card? Ah i see what you mean now.... The universal must have partitioned the 4GB card to 2GB each. Except the other 2GB is hidden. I see. Good observation. I will get it back with partition magic .... thanks so much. I almost lost all hopes. This time i will partition the card. 2GB each right? How many storage cards will be visible in the Universal once i make a partition? I believe 2 should be visible right? Anyways i am going home and trying this today. Its just like my Hard drive eh.

Same observation:
My 4 GB SD works fine: one partition, 3,68 GB; FAT 32; cluster size:4096
On the other hand: 8 GB SD cards are available only in SDHC format (SD ver 2.0) and Universal or other pda's can't recognise them.

Hi,
I got a 16gb note 2... and I have few question here.
I discovered that those download files and users file normally will be stored in internal SD than external..
So I have a problem on choosing a SD.
I'm planning to get the 64gb sdxc SD card. So my question is will those HD game files will be stored in extsd?

Try a app called app 2 sd by sam lu in the play store
Have you got a Note 2 and have you tried this?
it will install in the phone memory, but the game data will be saved in sd card. for those big apps that only have small apk but will download large game data. or at least thats what nfs hot pursuit did when i installed it.

So in JB they took out the ability to store directly to the Ext SD card, but the apps (games) that are small d/l with LARGE extra files to be d/l once installed will actually install on the card without user input. If so then I am fine with the 16GB GN2 on Verizon, if not then Google has an issue.

Nooo.. they will be installed in internal SD as well... those games and most of the GPS files will store in internal SD. I use the tool provided few pages ago, directory mount, to mount the files in external SD to internal SD so those games file I store in ext SD will run as there are mount as internal.

Hey, I also have been getting the same issue. It seems that the more I flash or reflash a new rom, the more I keep getting my sd card read as damaged or it doesn't even mount. It also happens a lot when I do a Hot Boot, and also when I reboot into my TWRP recovery, and my sd card won't mount in recovery, and if do a full wipe before install, then I end up with no files since internal sd gets wiped, so I store all my roms and zips on ext sd and if it doesn't mount or read I'm stuck with a full wipe and nothing to flash. It used to happen once in a while like once or twice a month, but like a mentioned, it gets worse and worse with every flash, and not it happens almost evey time, especially, I am not sure if its all the roms or just some of them, but when my screen times out and goes to sleep, after I wake it, it will rescan sd card, and its a hit or miss, sometimes it scans and all is good, and sometimes is scans and says either sd card damaged or sd card not mounted. And only pulling battery and rebooting gets it to work again!
Unfortunately, I don't know why, I thought maybe it's my sd card because I bought a 2 pack of 32gb each and when I had my first Note 2 N7100 my first 32gb also started not reading properly and then with a few weeks of use it just stopped working and I lost all my data and it no longer reads at all, not in phone nor pc.
So when I started having this issue with my second sd card, now that I have my second Note 2 SPH L900, I thought it was that the sd cards were faulty, but since you have similar issues, maybe it's the phone, or the roms...? If you find a fix please PM me and let me know.
Thanks

Hmm, I was thinking it might be my SD card too. It's a lexar 32gb class 10. Might change it to a different one and see if it's the issue.
Since no one is responding with over 400 views on this thread, I'm assuming it might just be a faulty SD card in both our cases. Since I'm usually using popular roms and it seemed to happened to any rom I use from what I can tell (or remember) . Will definitely let you know.

Sent from my SPH-L900 using Tapatalk 2
The rom I used were JellyBomb v16, 18, & 19; Lab Rats v2.3 & 2.4.5; CM10.1 Nightlies, Carbon Rom Nightlies, Swamp Monstah v2.2; Back To Goodness, and I think some other one I can't think of. I was thinking at first maybe it is a kernel problem because yesterday after I flash the Saber v25 kernel it completely killed my SD that not even my pc reads it anymore! But then I have noticed that it seems that everyone using a 32GB sd card despite the manufacturer has had this issue so maybe its just something with 32GB sd cards. But then I also googled the issue and people using Samsung Galaxy S3 and S4 are having same issues after flashing roms, so it might be a Samsung issue, though I don't recall having this issue with my last phone, the Samsung Galaxy S Relay 4G, and when I sent SanDisk a heated message since in the last 4 months I have had both the 32 GB Class 4 SanDisk Micro SD Cards that I bought in a pack die completely losing all my data, I noticed in the FAQs that they claim its a bug with Android 4.x OS thats causing sd cards to die, but I've had several 8GB ones that I've used from Android 2.x all the way to 4.2.2 and they have been completely fine!
So I personally am as stumped as all of you, and would like some sort of definitive explanation before I end up losing another sd card!
Sent from my SPH-L900 using xda premium
Thanks for that post. Can you let me know, for how long should I place my sd card on something around 100°? I really don't want to damage the out of card because I emailed Sandisk and they might replace my card if I still have warranty, so it would suck if they agree to, but then decline because they found out I melted the card or something, but same time I really need to get the data off of it...

When installing apps on the phone, are they installed in the hidden system partition, or on the internal SD card section?
Considering I would use the external SD card mainly for nandroid backups, pictures and videos – both captured by the phone itself, do I need a class 10 card or would a class 4 do?
Thank you.

To start with the internal SD card and the system partition are the same storage, just partitioned and both of them are accessible.
The application apk files are stored in the system partition while the InternalSD is used for user app data. You can store your stuff there too but try to leave a little memory free for your phone to use it without problems.
Secondly, I had an 8Gb Class4 Sandisk before, used it for months without any problem with regular use.
I am using a 16 Gb Class10 SanDisk now, and if you want more storage and use heavy files, like heavy high definition videos and high definition games, you should get a Class10, the read speed is noticeably better.
On side note, each nandroid backup is about 1.8Gb in size so storing them on SD card would be better
Since I am one of those heavy backup guys I am going for a 32GB one.
One this I thought about, I can imagine the card is limited by its reader, any idea if the GRAND even has a class 10 reader, seems like the spiritual father of the grand - the S# has only a class 6 one.

I agree. Most phone's support all class of card but they are limited by their reader. But I don't know which reader is in grand but it definitely supports class 10 cards as I'm myself using it and don't really know how to check it on phones.

You get a decent idea of write speed, it's almost twice of the minimum set for any clas 10 card (10MB/s), so safe to assume that it's working good

Hi,
A small question - I have heard of many problems from people trying to work with a 64GB microsd on the S3.
Sould i buy a 32 or a 64 GB card?
A 64GB card may fail (thus burning my money)?
Is there a way to load files greater than 4GB and the S3 will read them properly - such as movies etc.?
Thanks!
32 GBs is plenty of memory and with 64 it will be definitely slower than 32

Any other comments regarding the speed?
does the card comes boxed with EXFAT format?
Probably yes AS this is the best FAT for 64GB. Speeds will be to the point that you should not put any APP data on it, photos will refresh slow (Due to MediaCollector having to scan whole 64GB).
It shouldnt be a problem in S3 with built memory, so go for it

Why? If you do such a Statement you should also justify it.
I bought a 64 GB class 10 together with the S3 over 2 years ago. A need a lot of space, because a have a large music library.
So far there have never been problems or lags.

32 GB's memory is quite enough,if bigger, there would be more time to scan the whole disk.Would lower the speed.

Well, in my case 32 GBs aren't enough. As already mentioned my music library is about 30 GBs large. Therefore I need at least 64 GB.
And because I'm using a class 10 card, I almost doesn't feel a difference in speed between the internal memory and the sd.
Summary for the threadstarter:
If you really need a lot of space, it doesn't matter which card ist slower or faster. You have to buy at least the 64 GB card.
If you don't need that much and it doesn't look like you're going to need it in the near future, then you should of course buy the 32GB. You safe money and (a little bit) speed.

Yeah.I would agree with your summary.
BTW,your music library is really huge.Is it difficult to find out a specific music from so many music in your music library?
