beware do not use more than 2gb in the sd card reader of your universal!.
i screwed up 2 of my cards permanently. 4gb and 8gb. both got reformatted to 2gb and now they wont go back to 4gb and 8gb. its like i never had a 8gb or 4gb to begin with....
i am really sad, and i cant seem to get the tech support to reply or any faq's available on sandisk to help me.
i will be exchanging them for the 2gb cards. i guess i am going to have a huge stack of 2gb cards. this time most likely i will go for mini-sd.

Do you mean partition the card? Ah i see what you mean now.... The universal must have partitioned the 4GB card to 2GB each. Except the other 2GB is hidden. I see. Good observation. I will get it back with partition magic .... thanks so much. I almost lost all hopes. This time i will partition the card. 2GB each right? How many storage cards will be visible in the Universal once i make a partition? I believe 2 should be visible right? Anyways i am going home and trying this today. Its just like my Hard drive eh.

Same observation:
My 4 GB SD works fine: one partition, 3,68 GB; FAT 32; cluster size:4096
On the other hand: 8 GB SD cards are available only in SDHC format (SD ver 2.0) and Universal or other pda's can't recognise them.

I just received my 16gb class 10 microSD today. I got it from Buy.com
http://www.buy.com/prod/oem-16gb-16...class-10-card-reader/q/loc/101/220244316.html
It was $32 after tax.
It comes with an adapter and a reader, which basically looks like a little usb flash drive that you put your memory card into and then plug into the usb port.
So far, no problems with it. It is actually like 14.9gb, but I guess thats just how it goes. It's been holding and managing files well, but I don't really know how to accurately test it. I've been downloading a lot of songs and pictures, taking pictures and video, moving files around, deleting things, and its handling everything, no errors.
Just one more update...
The card is still working well. No problems what-so-ever. If you're looking for a good LEGIT 16gb card, this one is a good deal.
I've just noticed that nobody really follows up on a review for batteries or sdcards, they only talk a lot.

Most people are looking for speed tests to validate a card being the class that it claims. Since there are so many ones that tend to exaggerate their speeds.
Perhaps run a speed test on the card and post the results. You can find some freeware ones doing a Google search. I personally have used Crystal Disk Mark and it worked fine.
http://crystalmark.info/software/CrystalDiskMark/index-e.html
You could try SD tools app. I bought a class 4 16g sandisk.
I modified the read ahead to 2048 but didn't do a test before dunno if it helped

ok hows this? I didnt change any sd card/storage settings.

Looks nice...I might have to buy one because I think my POS Wintech 16gb cl10 card is starting to fail on me.
My 8 gig class two that I've had through two completely different phones and countless downloads and erasing files as well as a few reformats has similar speeds after using SD speed boost...I've hit higher but scaled it back as I was afraid of hurting it.
Post a pic, lets see what urs comes in at.

Awesome. I tested my slow 8GB card and it doesn't even come close to that. Just bought one of these. Thanks for the speed test. Hopefully mine is as fast.
I just bought this today and hopefully it will be here by the end of the week. I will post some screenies of my speed test when it comes in as well. If mine has this same speed this is a great deal for anyone looking for a 16gb card. Anyone else who bought this should post some screenshots of their speedtest results on this card. The more we have verify the speeds the more likely we will know whether this is good or just a gimmick or just luck of the draw on speed.
Bought one of these for my 2nd EVO today. Will post speeds when SD card received and tested. I have a 32GB Class 10 in my 1st EVO and it screams but don't need quite that much storage capacity in 2nd EVO. Hope it turns out to be a good buy with great speed.
so i just did a test on my class 2 card i bought from frys, i get a 10 mb/s write but only a 5 mb/s read. this probably explains all the time i have to wait for my pictures to load in my gallery.
Hi all.
I have a 32 gb class 6 card (Topram) which I purchased about 2 weeks ago. I partitioned it with a ext2 and converted to an ext3 and had been running Mik 3DSupersonic with a2sd with no problems. Today I was copying the contents of the card to my computer using a card reader and something went wrong. Upon inserting the SD card back into the phone it was unrecognized. I have tried partitioning it with my phone through RA Anon recovery (it completes almost instantly) unsuccessfully and also through my Windows 7 computer without success. Are there any tricks I can try or is this brand new card shot?
Thanks for any insight.

Yeah sounds like a 2gb card hacked to read 32gb until you try filling it up past the 2gb. If you don't mind me asking, how much did you pay for it?

If you're right it had to be bigger than a 2gb because I had upwards of 9 gb on it when it was working. I paid $46.75 Here's the link http://www.buy.com/pr/product.aspx?sku=219375390
I've contacted Topram about a warranty replacement. I'll keep you posted on the outcome.

I learned my lesson now. I wouldn't have even considered it except it had very good reviews.
i have a small question about sd cards, i have a sandisk 8gb class 4 sd card that i am using and i used the app SD Tools to test the speeds of my card and my results were as if the class of my card was higher than 4.....but i dont fully understand what speeds are for each class, from what i have read a class 4 should have 4mb of write speed, but mine ranges from 8-10 on the tests...does that mean my card is like a class 8 or 10?...if anyone could clear this up for me that would be awesome...ill put a screenshot of my test results if that would help also...

Hey guys, I've searched and tried a bunch of different suggestions found in other threads, but this issue keeps recurring.
At this point I am wondering if this is a virus my AV is unable to recognize, or if maybe the card is corrupted somehow. See the screenshot I attached...After using a card reader to transfer all of my files onto my Team 64g SDXC last night, I verified that the card was not write protected, and went through all of the folders to verify this renaming issue did not occur. Everything was fine.
This morning when I started to flash the new MOAR, i started a backup with TWRP, and it says it cannot create the folder because the card is write protected. >_< So I backed up to the internal instead. Flash went fine, no problems. So then plug my S3 into my comp, I went to move some files to it, and just out of curiosity, decided to check several folders. Boom! Folders have been renamed again!
Ok so wtf is going on here? Has anyone seen this before? Possible virus? If this is corruption, why was it not showing up when I copied all the file last night?
*Edit: I should mention that the files/folders that have been corrupted cannot be deleted. Windows says they are write protected, but when you view properties, read-only is not checked. I can rename them, but not delete them... Argh!
Open to any suggestions here. I have tried guiformat, the HP format tool, the Partition Wizzard program, and the SD3 tool. Issue still recurs.
* Added another screenshot of files which have been corrupted. *
Sounds like your card got corrupted or a bad download of some kind. Have you tried ZARecovery? I used it once to at least get my files off the card, then transfer files to new card.
sent from somewhere
Thanks for the reply! Does that add up tho? Like I said, the files were fine last night, it's only this morning that the corruption in the files shows up. Also, it is only when the card is inserted in the S3 that I have trouble writing to it.

Yeah, sandisk admitted that some of their cards were faulty.
You can try reformatting your sdcard to see if that fixes it (copy everything that you need to your computer). If not, i would try to file a claim with sandisk.
After hearing all this about sandisk i got scared and went out and got a PNY card instead. Sucks cause I just got a sandisk mobile ultra 32 gig class 10 a week ago.. Ended up grabbing PNY 32 gig class 10. dam PNY sdcard was more then the sandisk!! I got the sandisk for like around 30$ on sale at radioshack. Got the PNY at staples for 50$!

When installing apps on the phone, are they installed in the hidden system partition, or on the internal SD card section?
Considering I would use the external SD card mainly for nandroid backups, pictures and videos – both captured by the phone itself, do I need a class 10 card or would a class 4 do?
Thank you.

To start with the internal SD card and the system partition are the same storage, just partitioned and both of them are accessible.
The application apk files are stored in the system partition while the InternalSD is used for user app data. You can store your stuff there too but try to leave a little memory free for your phone to use it without problems.
Secondly, I had an 8Gb Class4 Sandisk before, used it for months without any problem with regular use.
I am using a 16 Gb Class10 SanDisk now, and if you want more storage and use heavy files, like heavy high definition videos and high definition games, you should get a Class10, the read speed is noticeably better.
On side note, each nandroid backup is about 1.8Gb in size so storing them on SD card would be better
Since I am one of those heavy backup guys I am going for a 32GB one.
One this I thought about, I can imagine the card is limited by its reader, any idea if the GRAND even has a class 10 reader, seems like the spiritual father of the grand - the S# has only a class 6 one.

I agree. Most phone's support all class of card but they are limited by their reader. But I don't know which reader is in grand but it definitely supports class 10 cards as I'm myself using it and don't really know how to check it on phones.

You get a decent idea of write speed, it's almost twice of the minimum set for any clas 10 card (10MB/s), so safe to assume that it's working good
Always use class 10 mc..

SanDisk Ultra SDHC UHS-I (Class 10) Card 16GB with a boosted read-ahead speed of 4096kb

Hi All,
I'm thinking of getting this phone, but I have a question or two.
I saw in a thread here that there may be issues moving apps to the SD Card. adoptable storage was suggested as the solution.
I was under the impression that HTC had disabled adoptable storage...is that not the case?
Also, when I tried it on my Sony device, some apps (GTA, iirc) complained that they needed an SD card to function. Is there a known workaround for this?
Essentially, I am concerned about storage in general. My current phone is rooted so it's not an issue for me right now, but I would not be rooting the HTC if I get one.
Any help / suggestions would be much appreciated.
Cheers,
DF

converting an external sd card to adoptable memory isn't advisable due to many reasons but still kept for users who has pushed their internal memory cap....
1) more chances of your data getting lost
2) you cannot read your card as a standalone sd card once its adoptable storage unless you format it back to external memory
3) speeds would vary still when apps are loaded from an adoptable memory
4) can't switch between phones the sd card unless you format it back to external memory again (this i doubt still)
theres a xposed module I believe that will allow apps to sd support.
my phone gets too hot using adopted storage with my 200gb Samsung pro+ and performance suffered so I quit using it
on a newer cheap phone with only 8gb storage I'm using the adopted and that don't seems to have the issues like the htc 10 of heat/ performance loss
