Sand Disk 64GB For S3 - Galaxy S III Accessories

Hi,
A small question - I have heard of many problems from people trying to work with a 64GB microsd on the S3.
Sould i buy a 32 or a 64 GB card?
A 64GB card may fail (thus burning my money)?
Is there a way to load files greater than 4GB and the S3 will read them properly - such as movies etc.?
Thanks!

32 GBs is plenty of memory and with 64 it will be definitely slower than 32

I have been using a 64gb Sandisk for quite a few months now in my S3 with no trouble.

Me too, I've had a 64GB Sandisk card in my phone since the phone was launched and have never had a problem with it.

Any other comments regarding the speed?
does the card comes boxed with EXFAT format?

Probably yes AS this is the best FAT for 64GB. Speeds will be to the point that you should not put any APP data on it, photos will refresh slow (Due to MediaCollector having to scan whole 64GB).
It shouldnt be a problem in S3 with built memory, so go for it

I've used a 64gb and now a 128gb card in my S3 with no problem.

Yes! AS you see people are using even 128GB. Jest make sure it aint cheap card from market.
Im using 32GB and putting any APP info on it makes them sometimes unusable (Like 3D games are loading for ages!)

A lot of music, for instance. I have a 64 Gb SanDisk Voyager Go (with built in OTG MicroUSB port) filed with music. My next step might be a 128 Gb MicroSD card.

I bought the 64gb when it first came out and was priced at $300 lol. I got it on sale for $40. Talk about a total screw you fee for early adopters. Works fine. I have 30gb of music on it. I bought the Sandisk class 10 which seems pretty fast and have never had to wait. They even have a nice sandisk app that helps with moving files around between internal and external sd cards.

Why? If you do such a Statement you should also justify it.
I bought a 64 GB class 10 together with the S3 over 2 years ago. A need a lot of space, because a have a large music library.
So far there have never been problems or lags.

32 GB's memory is quite enough,if bigger, there would be more time to scan the whole disk.Would lower the speed.

Well, in my case 32 GBs aren't enough. As already mentioned my music library is about 30 GBs large. Therefore I need at least 64 GB.
And because I'm using a class 10 card, I almost doesn't feel a difference in speed between the internal memory and the sd.
Summary for the threadstarter:
If you really need a lot of space, it doesn't matter which card ist slower or faster. You have to buy at least the 64 GB card.
If you don't need that much and it doesn't look like you're going to need it in the near future, then you should of course buy the 32GB. You safe money and (a little bit) speed.

Yeah.I would agree with your summary.
BTW,your music library is really huge.Is it difficult to find out a specific music from so many music in your music library?

Upgrade SD card

Looking for suggestions. first of all, has anybody filled up the packaged 8gb memory on your phone? and if you've upgraded your SD card, please let me know what kind and how much, I saw a 16gb mircroSDHC from newegg but the reviews were not so great:
*well apparently I cannot post outside links
but here is the item number from newegg.com N82E16820139121
I upgraded to a Winston 16GB Class 10, I got about 4GB's left due to music and movies
Upgraded to a WinTec 16GB class 6 on the first day! It worked awsome!
using the 16gb sandisk that came with my HD2...works fine, (didn't work for crap in the HD2 though). I do not keep a lot of music on it anymore now that I use Slacker almost exclusively...but I do have a couple movies on there at the moment.
I am using the 8GB that came with my MT4G in my HD2 to run Android (works fine as well)
I'm sure you shouldn't have a problem with anything up to a 32gb...just buy from a respectable seller, I have heard a lot of horror stories about cards off ebay
cool, thanks fellas, looks like I'll just go with a 16gb gonna go for a class 10 one.

i'd recommend class 6 since the hardware can barely read as fast as a class 10 card.
but if you wanna spend the extra bucks on wasted speed, go ahead =P
I took the 16gb class 6 sd that came in my Fender mytouch and popped it in. Ive got about about 4.8gb left with music, movies and roms on it. Since there arent any roms that use ext or swap yet, theres really no way to tell how well it functions other then the music and the movies play fine lol

I bought a 32gb memory card class 4 from Adorama for 99.99 with free shipping. Got it and made sure I ran a speed tester on it and it passed. No complaints... however took forever to arrive lol I'm a music junkie and I was about dead by the time I got it because by then I had already sold the one preinstalled.

Just kinda agreeing with agentaaron, my 16gig that came with my hd2 didnt work so well with the hd2 but it loves the mytouch..cant figure it out as I thought it as a defective card...but works just fine.
ok, so I got a 16gb card class 10 for 30 bucks from the egg, can I just copy/paste everything over from my stock card onto the new one and my phone should work just fine but with the extra storage space correct?

2) Download Astro from Market
3) Open Astro, hit Menu, Tools, SD Card Usage
4) Find out what is taking up all the room
5) Use your noggin to delete what YOU think you don't need
6) Remember that you made a backup

I've narrowed down my choices for my new 16GB card to the Wintec Class 10 on Newegg for ~30 or the Komputerbay Class 6 for ~40. Only the reviews so far are making it a tough decision. Will you guys with either card please revisit this thread next week and post your findings after repeated use?
Posting Findings
Got my 16GB Wintec Class 10 in the mail on Friday.
Tested with CrystalDiskMark 64-bit using the prepackaged SD adapter in my laptops SD slot 3 times each.
Sequential Reads 13MB/s+
Sequential Writes 11-12MB/s
I'm impressed. I will continue to use and report back findings.
Going to get my wife one for her MT4G and another one for the Nook Color (X-mas gift) I will be getting.
EDIT:
Tested the stock SanDisk 8GB Class 4 that came with the phone:
Sequential Read : 11 MB/s
Sequential Write: 5.3 MB/s
slightly above the Class 4 rating. Going to keep this card as my 'Movies' card for long trips and such.
Tested my Transcend 8GB Class 6 from my G1:
Sequential Read : 12.5 MB/s
Sequential Write: 6.0 MB/s
Just meeting Class 6 requirements. Will put my daughter's movies on it.

32GB microsd class 10

Anyone got 32GB microsd class 10 for their Note? If so where did you get it and how is it? I found Samsung ones on Amazon but even though it says that it is class 10 people are claiming that speeds are more like class 2. So, I want to get one but want one that was tried and works. Thanks!

Can't comment on that card but did get a Samsung 16GB class 10 and then found out (after I'd ordered it) that class 4 are the best for phones as you tend to be writing mixed content. Apparently the c10 cards are not optimised for this and can be slower than c4. I can say that I recently connected my Note as a USB device to write a 2.5GB video to my SD card and got over 10MB/sec so am very happy to have gone for the c10 version.

Mujja,
/sdcard/ is not external sdcard for SG Note. It is /sdcard/external_sd. As proof, check its size is not 16 GB (14053 MB) but more 12 GB (11168 MB) that is equal to the 16 GB of the phone minus memory allocated to the system.

Careful! I have ordered one of these (Lexar 32GB Class 10) from Amazon. At first it worked fine but after a few days the phone started showing "SD Card Damaged" and it wouldn't access it at all. Formatting didn't help. Yet, it would work just fine in an USB adapter in a PC...
The weirdest thing is that the EXACT same thing happened with my second Note (I returned the first one to Expansys and got one from Amazon.de £70 cheaper . No comprendo.
(When I checked kernel logs (dmesg) on the Note, there was a problem right on the block layer... It couldn't read the raw device (sdc))
Exactly the same problem with the Lexar 32GB Class 10 for me as well in both the GNote and GS2. Never had a problem with any form of SD card in the past. RMA'd the Lexar and will probably try a Samsung Class 10 next.

I have the same card but get 11.39 write and 14.01 read
I did start a thread long time ago
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1150369
There is no real advantage of class 10 over class 4 in a mobile phone, where random read write is the key thing.
However I have seen good class 10 cards with good random read write speeds.
See towards the last few pages of the above thread.
If u can find the random read write of samsung class 10 , it would be great to know.

SanDisk microSDXC 64 GB works

Hello!
just wanted to share the following:
The SanDisk microSDXC 64 GB Card works in the Atrix.
You have to reformat it in the phone, because the Atrix like others doesnt understand the ExFat-Filesystem.
Right now im rebuilding my webtop2sd partition, the SanDisk seems to be a little faster than my old transcend 32gb.
This is good to know. I'm getting ready to upgrade my 16gb sdcard and have some money to spend so I'll keep this in mind. Thanks man, good share.
How much did that cost?

Thanks I was thinking about giving one a try but it's alot of money to risk. Nice one, I shall order mine today.
I got it for 85 € here in germany, that equals 108 $.
In my opinion thats a reasonable price for that.

You're out of luck if you want a Class 10 card. As far as I'm aware, only Class 6 MicroSDXC cards are available at present.
You can buy them from Amazon in the UK and, I expect you'll find them on Amazon elsewhere as well.
As somebody who can remember when we paid £500.00 for a 1GB hard disk at our work (this was perhaps 15 years ago?), seeing 64GB storage in a tiny MicroSD format for less than a hundred quid still makes me shake my head in disbelief!

Help me find a good microsd card?

Hello Let me get staight to the point....So after 3 months of owning my s2 I just realised that the sd card in it was a 8gb class 2 micro sd card. And that just won't do! So I've been scouring the internet for some kind of a good sd card. Of course I want the best for the best right? So I've been trying to find a 16GB class 10. But I don't want to pay too much money for it.
So I've found this sd card:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0054KHY8C/ref=s9_simh_gw_p147_d0_g147_i2?pf_rd_m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&pf_rd_s=center-2&pf_rd_r=1Y1NVT4GBQ6KCPJC1XEG&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=467128533&pf_rd_i=468294
And this one:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00698ZUHK/ref=s9_simh_gw_p147_d0_g147_i7?pf_rd_m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&pf_rd_s=center-2&pf_rd_r=1Y1NVT4GBQ6KCPJC1XEG&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=467128533&pf_rd_i=468294
So can anyone help me choose a right one? and maybe provide some links? I would really be glad if it was on amazon.co.uk only
Thanks a lot
i don't think that a class 10 card will be that much different from class 6 card for use with the SGS2.
you better stick with SanDisk Or Samsung cards , even if they are a little expensive but they are good quality.
Good supplier good brand name is all i would bother with . Been running a no name class 2 16Gb for months no problems . But it would have been a own brand product from one of the big outlets probably Amazon .
jje
Class 4 is fast enough I think. Using a sandisk 32gb class 4 with no issues at all regarding read/write speed.
Here's my 8gb integral ultima pro class 10, its pretty fast.

Hello Let me get staight to the point....So after 3 months of owning my s2 I just realised that the sd card in it was a 8gb class 2 micro sd card. And that just won't do! So I've been scouring the internet for some kind of a good sd card. Of course I want the best for the best right? So I've been trying to find a 16GB class 10. But I don't want to pay too much money for it.
So I've found this sd card:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0054KHY8C/ref=s9_simh_gw_p147_d0_g147_i2?pf_rd_m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&pf_rd_s=center-2&pf_rd_r=1Y1NVT4GBQ6KCPJC1XEG&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=467128533&pf_rd_i=468294
And this one:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00698ZUHK/ref=s9_simh_gw_p147_d0_g147_i7?pf_rd_m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&pf_rd_s=center-2&pf_rd_r=1Y1NVT4GBQ6KCPJC1XEG&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=467128533&pf_rd_i=468294
So can anyone help me choose a right one? and maybe provide some links? I would really be glad if it was on amazon.co.uk only
Thanks a lot

i've got mine sandisk 32gb class 4 cause i need a lot of space for music and some movies...pretty good for 243 saudi riyals.

Stick with sandisk or transcend and you won't go wrong. In terms of class, i don't think it will make that big of a difference on your phone. Just stick above class 4 and you should be fine.
Hey
I got one of these. its a great cards for the money and its from a trustable source as there are many fakes out there

I am waiting for this one to my S2: SanDisk 32GB Mobile Ultra Micro SD (SDHC) Card - Class 10 UHS-1
what do you think?
Definitely one of the best! Good choice. I'm waiting for the same one!

I would never buy anything other than sandisk. Got countless ones knocking around in various sizes and classes, been trodden on, dropped in water, in and out of different phones, into readers upside down and back to front and never an ounce of problems. Rock solid.
I can just confirm that, tried with others but finally I have always bought sandisk. Now the only other card is 8GB which I get in Nokia 5800 sales pack.

I bought http://www.samsung.com/uk/consumer/...s/MB-MSBGA/EU?subsubtype=micro-sd-accessories and I'm pretty satisfied with it. I had crazy luck with the store which was selling it under the real price and bought it for only ~25 euros. Two days later (and ~20 more sold microsd cards to all my friends) they corrected the price.
Anyways, being class 10, this card is awesome. Read speeds are very high, and I don't see any difference between the internal memory and this card either, although I haven't done any real tests, just the everyday usage.
Also, I have huge amount of it filled with music and pictures, and the phone seems to cope with it just fine, so I give you full recommendation for this one.
PS: It came with two year warranty, even here in Serbia!
Always buy Sandisk Also I think the class difference is only apparently when taking HD videos to prevent stuttering when recording.

The class rating of your micro SD card generally defines how quickly information can be read from or written to the card.
If you’re recording a lot of high-definition videos and snapping high-megapixel shots, Class 6 and above is enough.Higher number will ensure that your device won’t slow down between shots.

Looking for a MicroSD card, SanDisk / Samsung UHS-I?

Hi,
So I'm finally out of space and I need a 32GB microSD card. I'm going to use it for storing photos/videos (directly written on the card) and music, and I'm also going to use it as a USB storage. I've been looking around the forums and found this Sandisk UHS-I card:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/221067563602
Question is, does GS2 support UHS-I cards? Is UHS-I compatible with the device? If it is, will it work at maximum speed or will the device treat it as a class 10 card? I'm concerned my GS2 won't be able to work well with the UHS-I card because of incompatibility. Should I just get a regular Class 10 card instead?
Thanks!
Your fine but you missed the deal, yesterday Best Buy had it on sale for $20 and you didn't have deal with shipping
I just looked it up on Best Buy, they sell it for $70 now, isn't it a bit strange that I found it on eBay for only $27? The eBay seller got quite a lot of positive feedbacks and looks pretty reliable. I hope it's just Best Buy overpricing the item.
I still need an answer for my most important question: Does GS2 support UHS-I cards? Is this UHS-I card fully compatible with the device?
Thanks again.

It´s a chinese Fake
Maybe it´s a very poor quality microsd card
The Galaxy S2 has problems with UHS-I cards. Go with a Class 6 32GB card; they're more reliable.

What sort of problems? My S2 on LS8 JB only wrote to the card (UHS-1 64GB) at 6-8 MB/s making me think the card was defective but on LSJ it writes at 9-12 MB/s. ALso when performing tests my cpu usage is very high so I would recommend not underclocking during tests and maybe locking cpu with performance governor. Anyway I just wanted to share my experience of also being sceptical but now happy
i have a uhs-1 card in my s2 without any problems
I have a SanDisk Ultra microSDXC UHS-I 64GB, EU model SDSDQU-064G-U46A.

I've looked around the web and found some bad reviews on the SanDisk card (mainly unreliable card, dying in few months), so I looked instead for a Samsung one with great reviews, which seems a bit more reliable:

What do you guys think?
Not had any problems with my Sandisk 64GB UHS-1 card.

UHS-I cards are backwards compatible AFAIK, so they are probably operating at slower speeds than they would in a native UHS device.
Bought a Samsung 32GB Class 10 UHS-1 card from MyMemory for 21 pounds (=$33). Preferred to pay extra ~$7 to a reliable store and not waste my time and money on fake chink ones at eBay.
I'll let you know the details once I get it ^.^
what read/write speed you achieve?
Got the card today - exactly 10 days after I ordered ^.^ It's this card: http://www.mymemory.co.uk/Micro-SDHC/Samsung/Samsung-32GB-Micro-SDHC-Plus-up-to-48MB_s-Class-10
Pretty good results from what I've seen around.
Tested on I9100T 16GB with Omega ROM V16.2 (XXLSJ), whilst a few phone calls and endless WhatsApp messaging (in case any of it affects the results), Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit with WDC Green 500GB 5400RPM HDD.
What do you guys think?
Hello, i need help please.
I have Samsung Galaxy S4 (i9505) with Android 4.2.2 and only 16GB of memory.
Which microSD card you people recomend me to buy?
1. SanDisk Extreme Pro 16GB (read 95MB/s and write 90MB/s); SDSDQXP-016G
2. Samsung MicroSDHC Pro 16GB (read 70MB/s and write 20MB/s); MB-MGBGB
3. Toshiba Exceria Ultra High Speed Class 10, UHS-I Typ HD (read 95MB/s and write 30MB/s)
Which one is better?
Will i get this speed results on my phone when i will make a speed test of rear/write on microSD card or this results are not true?
Or will be the same if i buy SanDisk Ultra C10 (read 30MB/s and write 10MB/s) becouse of limitation on my device? Could Galaxy S4 do more that 10MB/s write?
I would like have a very fast microSD for recording my video in FULL HD without any lag.
Last year i had Galaxy S3 with SanDisk Ultra C10 and when i was recording, the video "sticking"

There are a LOT of fake cards floating around. You need to be extremely careful about your sources.
If a card looks unbelievably cheap, it probably is, but that doesn't mean that ones at normal price aren't fake either.
Take a look at http://www.bunniestudios.com/blog/?page_id=1022 for some background from a few years back.
