Need help after hard brick - G4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My phone died while surfing and clicking a link (link was ok I checked on a notebook). It seemed to restart but ended with the LG logo - and after that ended with a black screen. Then I tried every combination to boot again (Volume down+Start button to get into recovery, Vol- + USB cable to get into download mode, took out the accu) but nothing happenend. Just dead. Do you have any idea to let my phone start again? Thanks for any help!

Either the ilapo bootloop. Or if its a hrd brick only fix is octoplus box with jtag support. Were u flashing anything or did it just reboot into a bootloop

What is "ilapo"? And sorry, but I don't know octopus box, too. I wasn't flashing anything, just surfing on a website. For a short moment I saw the LG Logo, after that it was black...

Hrdware failure mother board is bad. Called infinite loop auto power off. Its a defect. Call lg. They may fix it under extended waranty

After I have a read a lot about this specific problem in this forum, I think it's the same with my phone. I will send it back hoping it will be repaired.

Any idea if LG will fix your phone? I also have a hard brick on my BRAND NEW G4.
I tried TK's root method on my H811 but my version is 10d and seems like it does not
work with his version of the root image (10h).

I hope they will. But ath the same time I'm looking for another phone, too. Because I don't know whether the fixed phone will survive for a long time. Obviously LG shouldn't be the first choice at the moment.

There are even refurbed phones that lg has fixxed ilapoing too. From what i understand no g4 is safe.

Seems like you had an old G4. What is your serial number? Only digits matter. Mine is 602 and so far noone got bootloop on 602, if your is 500-510 ur very likely to get bootloop. You can still turn on your phone with modifying hardware but best way is just to give it back on warranty

Did the same, bought a zenfone 2 yesterday. So far really happy, great for the price. I don't like the bloatware so I unlocked, rooted and installed CM13. Very easy and smooth process. Working great.

ROOTED VZ G4 Bootloop - Will this break my warranty?

XDA,
I just got into a bootloop while on the Facebook App and I pressed the home button. I read that it happens to random people, but I want to make sure that I am safe.
I rooted roughly 5 months ago, when I got this phone and I've never had an issue.
What are my options? If I call VZ/LG will they accept my rooted phone? Or can I fix this bootloop? Will using this method http://forum.xda-developers.com/g4/general/guide-lg-g4-stock-firmware-to-stock-kdz-t3107848 help me ?
Thank you,

EDIT: My phone booted up, the apps were optimizing, but then it just rebooted back to the LG screen and now it's stuck there.

If you are stuck on LG screen you could have the same issue as;
http://forum.xda-developers.com/g4/help/lg-g4-stuck-bootloop-t3268734
I had full bootloops apart from when MM was installed, it just sat there on the LG logo. Could be that your on MM with the issue?
I have tried LG Bridge, Flash Tool and LG Up with various different roms, both LP and MM nothing worked.
Mine is also Rooted, with the bootloader unlocked. LG UK have been sat with my phone for over a month - hopefully I will find out soon if they have fixed it using the warranty - but even if they do, mine is with LGUK not LGUS ...
Think what I am trying to say is, try all the methods and if it doesnt work send it for RMA with your fingers crossed :/

Just so I understand you, I basically have to RMA my phone? All the other options seem like they resulted in a bootloop. And RMA I'm assuming you mean using warranty?
And I'm not on MM.
Just out of curiosity, would the fact that I rooted my phone disqualify me for using mywarranty?
I guess you rooted with injected system.img. If you can go to download mode you could write the original system.img back, so then you are not rooted. Or you could write a KDZ file in LGUP.

As far as I'm aware, simply restoring an original unrooted system.img backup will still show "Modified" in the download mode status, once it's been rooted. The only way to clear that status is by flashing the KDZ. (You can still keep your personal data with that option though.)

Based on what I've read in the main bootloop thread, the bootloop issue is a hardware problem that requires the phone motherboard to be replaced so I don't think they will be able to detect the root during the RMA process:
...
I have received confirmation from LG that series from May, June, July and August are afflicted by this issue and that the revision number doesn't matter. They also said that it is not necessary that all phones in these series will fail, but that under certain circumstances (not disclosed to me) they will start producing the bootloop issue which is h/w bound.
...
Update: It seems not all bootloops are due to deffective motherboard as on some phones they were able to detect the root and refused the repair under warranty.
So maybe for some G4's stuck in bootloop there might be a solution to be soft repaired.
I saw this in another thread, can you try this?:
...
Using DL mode (device off -> press and hold volume up while(!) connecting to PC) and LGUP you should be able to push any KDZ on your device and get out of the boot loop.
...
I don't have the bootloop problem so I can't test it but it might.
What's the build date of your G4 (between May-August 2015?)? What are the 1st 3 digits of your phone's S/N?
If you root any phone you automatically void your warranty. There's no exception to this and I actually understand why they do that because most people don't need to be rooting their phones lol but if u find a KDZ you're str8, use the flashtool and you'll never get into a permanent bootloop and you can use your warranty. But most likely something you modified or something another app was doing caused the bootloop not a hardware issue. Also it'd probably the last thing you ever even thought that caused it lol

HELP needed! G4 Bootloop!!

Hello guys!
It all started today in the morning when I opened Instagram application on my G4 (H815 model) and suddenly the phone froze. After 15 or 20 seconds it tried to reboot itself but it went straight into bootloop. It's not acctually a bootloop. It tries to go past loading screen and reboots another time and after that all I can see is LG logo.
I tried to enter recovery mode. No success. I tried updating/flashing KDZ file with LG Flash Tool and I got error everytime saying there was not enough information....
Last thing I tried was to boot into download mode. It shows Firmware Update screen but I don't thing ADB is working. I tried command adb devices and it found nothing.
I'm so desperate now as I need phone tomorrow. I hope it's not hard-bricked. Do any of you have idea what to do?
Any help apprechiated
TIA

lots of people report bottloops theres a thread and i said about 80% suffers from it.. its a hardware problem from lg .
thers the flash kdz to disable big core ,phone will be slow but usable.. and some have reported that warranty was denied and some had luck and phone was fixed give it a try..
because the first phone are suppose to be more likely to suffer from it.. so to know if its old earlier phone. or new one . that soeant suppose to happen anymore but it still does..

Thanks for the info. I checked serial number on the box and it says 507. I know a lot of 505 has this issue.
Do you have a link to that thread to disable main cores? I can still sell working phone rather than bricked
And I'm so pissed now because I didn't do anything wrong. Damn LG! Life's not good anymore!!
Is there possibility to flash KDZ with other program than LG flash tool? I can't get it working, it always says it couldn't find right information...

well only time will tell most will do .its just a matter of time.. since they are new and the ones getting bootloops are older.. so they say it takes about 8-9 months to show.. will need to wait and see. in 10 months from manufacturing date.
you cant tell wich one will but, LG says they fixed the issue in new phones..

yes it is its pretty easy... . file is big though... download kdz for you variant.. what android you are using.? MM or were you on stock LP.?
well i think since your phone is from 2015 august. that bootloop was supposed to be fixed by then. but newer phone are still getting hit by the bootloop.. but be aware unlocking the bootloader voids warranty.. some been lucky that phone were repaired some were denied repair..

Going to give this a whirl now mate, thanks.

[H815] Stuck on lg screen, no bootloop, access to download and recovery ok [SOLVED]

Hi,
I've searched over xda and google before but haven't found anything relevant so I've decided to post my own problem.
My G4 freezed unexpectedly while listening to music, I had to remove the battery to put it off.
But it never passed the LG logo again.
So, i've been stucked on this LG logo, looking for an answer and found about this hardware issue but I'm not certain to get the same error.
It's not a bootloop (even if I sometimes got stuck in bootloop while trying everything to revive my phone), I have been able to get to the download mode and TWRP (which I don't have anymore because I went back to stock using LGUP and LG bridge), even though I hardly get to the download mode now (I sometimes manage to do it though). I've also managed to save my data when I've managed to enter TWRP (plug in, remove battery, push volume down + power while putting battery in) which, people with hardware issue haven't, as far as I know.
I've tried everything I could and wouldn't even be able to describe it all.
Do you guys know how I could be sure if it's hardware or software related ?
Last try: update via Lg Bridge, succeed but still stuck on LG screen.
Thanks a lot !
Flash a lollipop kdz via LGUP, then try the ILAPO (works only with lollipop, no marshmellow) metod, there is a thread on xda.
There is a video on youtube too

I gave a look on what you've suggested, but is that going to let me use the phone or only backup ?
From what I understood (and I might be wrong), this only allows to backup because the phone would be worthless...

You'll be abble to use the phone, but it would be slower duo to the fact that with ILAPO you disable the "2 more powerfull" cpu cores... this metod let only 1 core active from the other 4, if you want to use the other two you have to gain root permissions and install an .apk to reactive the other 3. It's a litle triky but better than nothing I guess
PS: if you dont want to deal with all this bulls**it send it to LG
Same problem
This morning my Lg G4 also got stuck in boot Lg screen. Did you manage to fix your issue or got the data backup ?
sometimes flashing stock LP firmware fix it.. sometimes you must send it back to LG for repair..

I managed to backup, it's a weird trick and you need to have TWRP installed I guess:
- Remove the battery
- Plug your phone (I used my laptop but I'm guessing it also work directly from the charger)
- Push volume down + power
- Insert battery holding those buttons
I managed to enter TWRP and backup with this.
It didn't work at first, I had to try it several times.
I also read you have to keep holding volume down + power until the phone reboot itself once, and then you get access to TWRP but I tried so many times differently I don't remember which one worked best. Anyway, it worked for me that way.
I didn't fix the issue and I sent it to LG... I'm so frustrated, it's been 10 years I'm into this stuff and I always managed to fix everything
Hi guys,
So my G4 just came back from LG, they replaced the motherboard and that's it... A bit disappointed to not having been able to fix it myself but at least, it worked.
I didn't have to pay anything since it was a hardware defect, LG took care of it.
Thanks for those who tried to help, I hope this post would be useful for some with the same issue.

I'm having this same issue out of the blue. Is your serial number one of the infamous "before 509" ones? I'm on TMo with the H811, so it may not be similar at all....but I'm at my wits end. I've never had a spontaneous boot loop happen to me before now. It was always something I'd done.

Interesting... Especially since mine was a 509 or something. I guess they missed some units. Oh well, I just JUMP'ed early with my TMo plan to the G5. That was my second G4 after a similar issue 13 days into owning the first one back in November. Having your phone spontaneously die is quite a fun way to spend your anniversary -____-. I wasn't about to give that model a 3rd try. Thanks for replying.

Completely stock G4 fails to turn on and bootloops

Hi hope you can help, I'm trying to fix my sisters phone that has developed a software fault. The phone is completely stock, never rooted and I believe its on lollipop but cant switch on to be sure. Her fault happened when on snap chat to a friend and the phone just cut off and kept boot looping to the lg logo.
I have tried booting it into android recovery by holding the power and volume down button together, the re applying this when the logo appears, instead it just shows the battery charging.
Tried opening it through sdk manager in a cmd command of "adb reboot recovery" and still nothing.
When plugged into my pc it tried to install the drivers but stops after 2 mines and reboots.
Is their any way around this issue or to at least boot into recovery? its the LG G4 H815 model.
Thanks
Didn't it just bootloop? XD it's typical issue for 2015 G4s???

Search for boot loop over here there are multiple threads!
If your serial (sticker behind the battery ) starts with 5xx you have the hardware issue hundreds other have. Repairing is the only option to fix.

Thanks for that here is a picture of the sticker under the battery. I think it does is this one of the hardware effected ones?
see attachments for photo
Thanks
Yes you have a 505 and so it seems you have the infamous bootloop.
As long as you have warranty send it to LG for repairing
There are guides here how to backup with the freezer method of you want to.

Thanks you have been a great help, its my sisters phone so the freeze backup would be perfect as she has photos on their she wants to backup. Have you got a link to the best guide to follow? Also final question. If it is under warranty for them to fix she has smashed the phone screen and has been cracked for almost a year (don't ask why she is living with a cracked screen because even I don't know haha). It still displays and responds to touch (prior to bootloop failure) and the intention was to get her phone up and running then replace her screen for her. Even if the damaged screen has nothing to do with the cause of the bootloop screen will LG dismiss this and refuse repair because of a faulty screen? In which case am I best replacing the screen first then shipping the phone off to LG repair that way they cant dismiss the screen as a cause.
Thanks

Thanks

Cab you just boot into the recovery and clean the cache partition and see if it reboots successfully.

Thanks for the suggestion but sadly tried that with no look. her battery isn't great either doesn't hold much of a charge. Phone is in a mess really and trying to fix it for her rather than a shop or company charging her an arm and a leg. It just goes to the LG logo then the battery logo then nothing.

Besides that check my signature... the first line. Really.. :silly:
Well to be honest if you can I would replace the screen first just to be sure that this will make no trouble when sending it to LG. Jm5c
