[H815] Stuck on lg screen, no bootloop, access to download and recovery ok [SOLVED] - G4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I've searched over xda and google before but haven't found anything relevant so I've decided to post my own problem.
My G4 freezed unexpectedly while listening to music, I had to remove the battery to put it off.
But it never passed the LG logo again.
So, i've been stucked on this LG logo, looking for an answer and found about this hardware issue but I'm not certain to get the same error.
It's not a bootloop (even if I sometimes got stuck in bootloop while trying everything to revive my phone), I have been able to get to the download mode and TWRP (which I don't have anymore because I went back to stock using LGUP and LG bridge), even though I hardly get to the download mode now (I sometimes manage to do it though). I've also managed to save my data when I've managed to enter TWRP (plug in, remove battery, push volume down + power while putting battery in) which, people with hardware issue haven't, as far as I know.
I've tried everything I could and wouldn't even be able to describe it all.
Do you guys know how I could be sure if it's hardware or software related ?
Last try: update via Lg Bridge, succeed but still stuck on LG screen.
Thanks a lot !

Flash a lollipop kdz via LGUP, then try the ILAPO (works only with lollipop, no marshmellow) metod, there is a thread on xda.
There is a video on youtube too

Thanks, I'm going to try this and let you know !

I gave a look on what you've suggested, but is that going to let me use the phone or only backup ?
From what I understood (and I might be wrong), this only allows to backup because the phone would be worthless...

You'll be abble to use the phone, but it would be slower duo to the fact that with ILAPO you disable the "2 more powerfull" cpu cores... this metod let only 1 core active from the other 4, if you want to use the other two you have to gain root permissions and install an .apk to reactive the other 3. It's a litle triky but better than nothing I guess
PS: if you dont want to deal with all this bulls**it send it to LG

Same problem
This morning my Lg G4 also got stuck in boot Lg screen. Did you manage to fix your issue or got the data backup ?

sometimes flashing stock LP firmware fix it.. sometimes you must send it back to LG for repair..

I managed to backup, it's a weird trick and you need to have TWRP installed I guess:
- Remove the battery
- Plug your phone (I used my laptop but I'm guessing it also work directly from the charger)
- Push volume down + power
- Insert battery holding those buttons
I managed to enter TWRP and backup with this.
It didn't work at first, I had to try it several times.
I also read you have to keep holding volume down + power until the phone reboot itself once, and then you get access to TWRP but I tried so many times differently I don't remember which one worked best. Anyway, it worked for me that way.
I didn't fix the issue and I sent it to LG... I'm so frustrated, it's been 10 years I'm into this stuff and I always managed to fix everything

Hi guys,
So my G4 just came back from LG, they replaced the motherboard and that's it... A bit disappointed to not having been able to fix it myself but at least, it worked.
I didn't have to pay anything since it was a hardware defect, LG took care of it.
Thanks for those who tried to help, I hope this post would be useful for some with the same issue.

I'm having this same issue out of the blue. Is your serial number one of the infamous "before 509" ones? I'm on TMo with the H811, so it may not be similar at all....but I'm at my wits end. I've never had a spontaneous boot loop happen to me before now. It was always something I'd done.

Indeed, my serial number was 505 something.
I've been there too, if it's spontaneous, it must be this hardware defect...

Interesting... Especially since mine was a 509 or something. I guess they missed some units. Oh well, I just JUMP'ed early with my TMo plan to the G5. That was my second G4 after a similar issue 13 days into owning the first one back in November. Having your phone spontaneously die is quite a fun way to spend your anniversary -____-. I wasn't about to give that model a 3rd try. Thanks for replying.

[Q] Help! 3 hours, accidentally soft bricked my G4!

I'm on T-Mobile, and I upgraded from a G3 to a G4. Ordered the G4 from T-Mobile yesterday, got it a few hours ago. Earlier today, I went through the restore process for the G3 using the LG Flash Tool (essentially following these steps here). That all went fine. Shortly after that, without thinking, and without closing the LG Flash Tool, I plugged my G4 into my computer to charge it. I got confused for a moment when I noticed it restarting. The Flash Tool had picked it up, and was setting up to push the G3 firmware to it. I panicked, and unplugged the phone from the computer, right as the phone went to the "Firmware Update" screen. Now, whenever I turn it on, it just goes straight to "Firmware Update". Won't enter recovery mode, etc, etc... No matter what, just "Firmware Update".
Any help?

You done goofed OP. i dont think g3 method works on G4 from what ive heard. can you try to hard reset the phone? or if not connect to computer and use the terminal or ADB(i think its called) to restart to boot to the recovery menu

Well, it has the same download mode as the G3 (which is unfortunately the only thing it will boot into), so technically I should be able to flash the firmware the same way, only problem with that is, because it's so new, the .dll and .tot files aren't available anywhere.
I tried a hard reset from the phone, didn't work. I couldn't get ADB to pick up the device (since it only boots into download mode), so I couldn't reboot into recovery via ADB
Took it into a T-Mobile store, they couldn't do anything, as expected. Notated my account, and said to call. New phone was ordered and being sent out to me, should have it Monday

well at least your having it replaced. did the replacement cost anything?
sorry theres no fix to this right now. but i think its a little too early to mess with the G4
You have to restore you LG G4 to stock ROM.As your device is bricked you can't Flash via recovery.Download & Install LG Flash tool on your PC.Then download LG Stock Firmware according to your device model number. Then Flash via LG Flash tool.Below i share some helpful links

Actually there was no need to go to the store and get a new phone
You can easily flash G4 KDZs via LGUP, if you're stuck in download mode. Easiest game of your life. Sorry, that you had a lot of trouble, but keep in mind, that there's a way to get out of bootloops and such 99% of the time (well in fact 100% if it's a software problem). For future problems just check this thread. Easy to use, easy to get out of bootloops. Cheers

Thanks. But this was back in May, about 24 hours after it launched in the US. KDZ's weren't available then. Otherwise I would have done exactly what you said

ROOTED VZ G4 Bootloop - Will this break my warranty?

XDA,
I just got into a bootloop while on the Facebook App and I pressed the home button. I read that it happens to random people, but I want to make sure that I am safe.
I rooted roughly 5 months ago, when I got this phone and I've never had an issue.
What are my options? If I call VZ/LG will they accept my rooted phone? Or can I fix this bootloop? Will using this method http://forum.xda-developers.com/g4/general/guide-lg-g4-stock-firmware-to-stock-kdz-t3107848 help me ?
Thank you,
-J
EDIT: My phone booted up, the apps were optimizing, but then it just rebooted back to the LG screen and now it's stuck there.

If you are stuck on LG screen you could have the same issue as;
http://forum.xda-developers.com/g4/help/lg-g4-stuck-bootloop-t3268734
I had full bootloops apart from when MM was installed, it just sat there on the LG logo. Could be that your on MM with the issue?
I have tried LG Bridge, Flash Tool and LG Up with various different roms, both LP and MM nothing worked.
Mine is also Rooted, with the bootloader unlocked. LG UK have been sat with my phone for over a month - hopefully I will find out soon if they have fixed it using the warranty - but even if they do, mine is with LGUK not LGUS ...
Think what I am trying to say is, try all the methods and if it doesnt work send it for RMA with your fingers crossed :/

Just so I understand you, I basically have to RMA my phone? All the other options seem like they resulted in a bootloop. And RMA I'm assuming you mean using warranty?
And I'm not on MM.
Just out of curiosity, would the fact that I rooted my phone disqualify me for using mywarranty?
I guess you rooted with injected system.img. If you can go to download mode you could write the original system.img back, so then you are not rooted. Or you could write a KDZ file in LGUP.

As far as I'm aware, simply restoring an original unrooted system.img backup will still show "Modified" in the download mode status, once it's been rooted. The only way to clear that status is by flashing the KDZ. (You can still keep your personal data with that option though.)

Based on what I've read in the main bootloop thread, the bootloop issue is a hardware problem that requires the phone motherboard to be replaced so I don't think they will be able to detect the root during the RMA process:
...
I have received confirmation from LG that series from May, June, July and August are afflicted by this issue and that the revision number doesn't matter. They also said that it is not necessary that all phones in these series will fail, but that under certain circumstances (not disclosed to me) they will start producing the bootloop issue which is h/w bound.
...
Update: It seems not all bootloops are due to deffective motherboard as on some phones they were able to detect the root and refused the repair under warranty.
So maybe for some G4's stuck in bootloop there might be a solution to be soft repaired.
I saw this in another thread, can you try this?:
...
Using DL mode (device off -> press and hold volume up while(!) connecting to PC) and LGUP you should be able to push any KDZ on your device and get out of the boot loop.
...
I don't have the bootloop problem so I can't test it but it might.
What's the build date of your G4 (between May-August 2015?)? What are the 1st 3 digits of your phone's S/N?
If you root any phone you automatically void your warranty. There's no exception to this and I actually understand why they do that because most people don't need to be rooting their phones lol but if u find a KDZ you're str8, use the flashtool and you'll never get into a permanent bootloop and you can use your warranty. But most likely something you modified or something another app was doing caused the bootloop not a hardware issue. Also it'd probably the last thing you ever even thought that caused it lol

[PROBLEM] Not Bootloop - Please help [Intesting post]

Good evening everyone,
I come to you guys with a very particular problem. The LG G4 in question is an H815T (Asian variant). Let me clarify right now, it was not bootlooping. This one was getting STUCK at the LG logo, it didn't restart to it multiple times, it just got stuck there one day after turning off by itself. It did go into the download mode, though.
It went into the first part of the recovery, but when you selected that you wanted to factory reset, it got stuck there. The only way to get it out of the logo or the stuck recovery was taking the battery out. Interestingly enough, the phone DID charge at the stuck logo, albeit not so much due to the screen being constantly on at full brightness.
An even more interesting fact... I managed to fix it! I flashed the KDZ corresponding to the latest LP for the H815T, after the process was done, it did bootloop. I found the YouTube video about flashing a certain file to deactivate most of the cores and said "what the hell have I got to lose?"
Flashed the KDZ and.... VOILA! It showed the Recovery Android doing its job at Format Resetting !
Something even crazier... The phone booted into AndroidLP, I was worried about the cores thing, but the phone seemed to work at full speed... I was surprised to run HWmonitor and notice that all of the cores were active. The phone was fully working!!! Or so I thought... Now I have TWO problems:
I cannot update to MM. If I try to update from the phone itself (because it does say there's a new version available) I go back to being stuck at the LG logo.
When I make a call the screen goes off... nothing I do will turn it on, and if the other person does not hang up, the phone will remain locked. However, if I plug in a headset everything works normally.
Is there anything I can do about these two problems? Please, leave your comments and questions, I think this phone is pretty weird and I found nothing else like it on YouTube or here on XDA.
Take care :good:!
Idk for the call but for the mm you could try using something like lg mobile update tool... Something like that.
Be warned cuz i dont know if it will bootloop.

All good, Willy! Even is you're stuck at the LG logo, take your battery out, or it back in BUT DON'T TURN IT ON... Instead, try to access DOWNLOAD MODE. If you're able to do it, you can flash any KDZ you want, but be careful.

Yes ur right using a heavy screen protector will block all the sensors so ya try removing it... No issues in MM u can try OTA through wifi

LG G4 stuck in bootloop and won't flash

hello everybody
recently my H818p G4 , just got in a bootloop out of the blue , I tried all these safe mode , hard reset , .. nth works always freezes at one moment so I decided to reflash a KDZ
the thing is , the phone sometimes gets in download mode and sometimes it doesn't just like there is no battery inserted won't even boot with battery in and fully charged
the times when it gets into download mode it starts flashing and then it just reboot and stuck in LG logo in the middle of flashing process.
I used both LG flashtool and LGup softwares .. and same problem every single time
any fixes to this ?
Your phone has developed bootloop issue just like hundreds of us here (thus there is no need for another thread) so you have 2 options though ultimately it will be still repair job for LG if it is under warranty:
1) Temporary solution to disable big cores and try to recover the data if it is of any importance and you can have phone working for some time but it will be slow:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=67550617&postcount=1273
2) RMA your device to LG to have motherboard replaced

I successfully flashed it using LGup software .. all went aright , 100% ... phone reboots then comes that green android robot , then comes LG logo for a while and then everything goes black , like phone totally shutdown
Of course it won't work as per my post above. Hundreds of posts on this so not sure why there is a need for you to be different and create new thread? Is the search button not working?
Everything you need to know is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/g4/help/recover-data-bootlooping-phone-t3313869
Download the files and read the instructions, it does say what models are supported and what not. Big cored disable tool is not a guaranteed way that you'll recover your phone but if it is outside warranty then you have nothing to lose.

Need help after hard brick

My phone died while surfing and clicking a link (link was ok I checked on a notebook). It seemed to restart but ended with the LG logo - and after that ended with a black screen. Then I tried every combination to boot again (Volume down+Start button to get into recovery, Vol- + USB cable to get into download mode, took out the accu) but nothing happenend. Just dead. Do you have any idea to let my phone start again? Thanks for any help!
Either the ilapo bootloop. Or if its a hrd brick only fix is octoplus box with jtag support. Were u flashing anything or did it just reboot into a bootloop

Any idea if LG will fix your phone? I also have a hard brick on my BRAND NEW G4.
I tried TK's root method on my H811 but my version is 10d and seems like it does not
work with his version of the root image (10h).

I hope they will. But ath the same time I'm looking for another phone, too. Because I don't know whether the fixed phone will survive for a long time. Obviously LG shouldn't be the first choice at the moment.

There are even refurbed phones that lg has fixxed ilapoing too. From what i understand no g4 is safe.
Seems like you had an old G4. What is your serial number? Only digits matter. Mine is 602 and so far noone got bootloop on 602, if your is 500-510 ur very likely to get bootloop. You can still turn on your phone with modifying hardware but best way is just to give it back on warranty

Did the same, bought a zenfone 2 yesterday. So far really happy, great for the price. I don't like the bloatware so I unlocked, rooted and installed CM13. Very easy and smooth process. Working great.
