I am used to particular sounds for notifications and other events that sounds I have grown accustomed to. So where(which folder) do I add these "new" sounds (from my Note 3) to my Note 7. And what file format do they need to be in. Thanks in advance!

Good question, I had custom sounds and ringtones on my note 4 and forgot which folder I put them all in for the system to pick them up!
I just always put them in the download folder. Picks them right up.

I placed the sound files from my note 3 into the download folder on my Note 7 and it still wont Pick them up. There has to be some place to put them so I can access the sound files I have grown accustomed to!

create an "audio" folder in the base storage.
in that folder make a "notifications" folder.
place all the sounds you want in there.
for ringtones do second step with "ringtones" folder

Is this possible without root? I thought all the audio files were in the system folders?

don't need root. These folders will put the options for what you want directly in the choices for either notifications or ringtones
for reference, you can see whats in my folder and they are available in the ringtone option

Make sure the sound file you are going to use is in OGG format or it wont work, here is a link that will show you how to this without downloading any sound changing software. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1873289&highlight=ogg

After this I wanted to confirm for myself( just a curiosity thing ) and found something very intresting. I removed each file 1 at a time and rebooted, only to find out that the sound was still there. Could my RootExplorer be going wacky ? Or could those files have nothing to do with the lock sound ?

Don't delete them. Just rename to Effect_Tick.ogg.off. it works for me for getting rid of the camera sounds. But I know for sure that effect tick is the touch sounds. I've made a couple themes for myself.

Make sure that your file explorer is setting the /system folder as writable. Even if you have access to root folder of your phone, the /system folder is usually read only. Goes without saying you need root access to your device.
OK I think OP means TAP on the screen. Click on to me meant turning the screen on and off. There are two ways, untick the box or rename the file.

No no no
This post intrigued me so I tried it myself... I wanted to change the obnoxious "boop" to the tick from an aosp JB ROM and I found that All 3 of these files must be changed or else you'll still get that dang "boop":
/system/media/audio/ui/Effect_Tick.ogg (Actually, I really don't think this is necessary because I accidentally deleted this file entirely without replacement and have still achieved the same results, but if it makes you feel comfortable...)
PLUS
/system/media/audio/ui/S_HW_Touch.ogg (This is the sound for the "back" and "menu" keys on the bottom of the phone)
AND ALSO
/system/media/audio/ui/TW_Touch.ogg (This is the MAIN file that changes the sound on every touch made on the touchscreen)
Hope this helps!
And oh yeah... DEFINITELY make sure you're using a root-capable file explorer with "/System/" mounted as RW and make sure permissions are set to "rw-r-r" when you're done. And reboot for new sounds to take effect.

I'm sure the keyboard has one too. So there may be a ton of files lol. I always disable keytones and what not as soon as I touch an electronic device. They drive me nuts. It'd be a fun prank to replace the bloop with the camera click tho

I was tinkering around in the sounds and found out that this works really easy.
Unfortunately the effects are not immediately noticible, it requires a reboot to have the system sounds replaced.
Also another big thing is that if you want to keep your phones original sounds just rename the file TW_Touch.ogg.off or .Bak all you need to do is add something to the end that makes the file null by the phone and it can always be changed back to reinstate the stock sound

Has anyone tried switching out the sound effects played when detaching the S-pen? I know it's possible via a root file manager, but how would I go about preparing the files, format, bitrate, etc? I would really like it to play a cinematic-style sword unsheathing sound when I remove the stylus.
You will need to be rooted to do this. You can use root Explorer (paid) or solid Explorer (free)
The files are located in:
/system/media/audio/ui/
Pen_att_noti1.ogg
Pen_det_noti1.ogg
Those are the two sound files that control the remove and insert S Pen sounds.

That I'm not sure about. I'm sure there is a whole bunch of software out there. . Probably even apps... To convert. As far as length requirements, I'm also not sure. But I'd just stick close to the duration of the rest of the ui sounds and you should be fine. I think the worst that could happen is, the sound won't trigger. ..pretty sure

Yep. Just renamed mp3s. I didn't convert them.
Here's the files to replace the second pen removal and return sound effects with a sword unsheathing one. They shouldn't replace the lightsaber sounds, as those replaced the first sound set. These have been confirmed to work with Jedi X4, just unzip and paste them over the existing files in /system/media/audio/ui/ using Root Explorer.
If I come up with any more, I'll post them in this thread.

The gain on these files are really, really loud, almost unusable. As far as I know, there isn't a way to modify the gain in an .ogg file. Are you able to adjust them on your end?

If you use these files, you may have to manually adjust the permissions of the new files in the folder to be identical to the rest of the files. For me, it wouldn't work otherwise.

You beat me to it because I was going to say the same thing. I really like the sword sounds but like you said even on the lowest volume they're ridiculously loud. I'm pretty sure you can just rename them back to .mp3 and then use a conversion program on a pc to adjust the levels. I'll give it a shot and see if it helps and repost them if it does

I'm not sure how to but u can download the zedge app for free. Then search for the samurai sword notification. Download it. Use file explorer go to zedge folder and move the mp3 to system/media/audio/ui. Then rename the Pen_det_noti1.ogg to Pen_det_noti1.bak and rename samuraisword.mp3 to Pen_det_noti1.ogg. This is how I did it. It is rather loud but its awesome. I just turned down system volume a little and its fine.
i created a couple of .ogg files for spen when removing and inserting, i got the idea from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2054762 (light saber spen sounds)
you have to have root, and root explorer(my choice)
1) Navigate to System/media/audio/ui and find the current
Pen_att_noti1.ogg(insert/attach sound) and
Pen_det_noti1.ogg(remove/detach sound) , rename them by adding .bak at the end.
EX: Pen_det_noti1.ogg.bak
(note, you can do this for tones 1,2 and 3.. by naming the files differently EX: Pen_det_noti1.ogg change the 1 to 2, or 3)
now download the files you want to use from bottom of post(links) to your sd card.
Now copy the the 2 modified files you placed on your SD and move them into the System/media/audio/ui and fix permissions!!
fixed..you will have to rename the files accordingly (remove the prefix on the file name) insertedPen_att_noti1.ogg
I would reboot..you may not have to though?
Now go into your settings>S-Pen>Pen attach/detach sound>Sound 1

No problem.
Hi guys, I would like to use a personal alarm sound instead of the stock ones. On the other phones I have, usually I put the mp3 in the "Alarms" folder and I can find it listed with the other ones in the alarms list while I'm setting it on. On the Nexus 5X I can't find my mp3 files in that list: can you help me?
OT: I have copied the same files in the notifications and ringtones folders and the phone "sees" them in both notifications and ringtones lists.

I just got my hands on a pixel 3xl (Android 9) coming from a Galaxy S5 on Android 5. I know that with Android 5 on my old Galaxy device I could overwrite the default ROM sounds that were located in /system/media
.. unless I'm overlooking something I believe I have found the pixel 3xl's location of the default ROM sounds located in /product/media and I can't seem to mount that location to read/write with my root explorer...
I'm wanting to change the ROMs default sound such as the charging sounds, low battery sounds etc. Is it possible to do this without being able to mount the /product to read/write?! What am I missing?

I'm looking to replace the OEM ROM sounds like when a set it on a charger or the battery is low; I want to play l own sound. I could use Tasker to do what I need I guess, but the would then play two sounds...

Upload the sounds you want and I'll try to make you a module.

Installed this along with the clock on right mod (already installed) that you did for me last week or so, and both work fantastically. I love the new sounds

DUDE!!!!! YOU ARE FREAKING AWESOME!!!!!! ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!!!!
That worked perfectly!!
For anyone else flashing this, I noticed that due to my font on my pc, sometimes its hard for my to distinguish upper and lower case letters...and on I few of the NFC sounds I see that I accidentally had CAPS lock on so some of the capitalization is reversed and the first flash resulted in two files names; the old file and the incorrectly capitalized one (my fault!)
I fixed this by uninstalling the module, fixing the capitalization within the zip and reflashing...
I do have two questions tho, if I decide I want different sounds, can I just replace the ones in your zip and reflash?
and where can I throw you a tip?!!

I came from the HTC One M8 after 5 years. Always had the clock on the right, so that's what I'm used to.
