Best 3rd Party Insurance??? - Note 7 Questions & Answers

I'm looking to cover my new Note 7 and wife's Galaxy S7...what is the go to insurance other than carrier coverage? I've used squaretrade in the past, but I see mobile rhino also covers lost phones. However, I know nothing about Mobile Rhino. All feedback about insurances is greatly appreciated.

[Q] Insurance for unlocked Galaxy Nexus?

I think insurance is a good idea for my new phone. I have looked at SquareTrade and Ensquared. I am going this route b/c I am with TMobile and have an unlocked phone. (I am on a grandfathered TZones plan...)
Do you all have any experience with either of these companies? I have a 35% off code for S.T., but they do not cover theft?
Thanks in advance.
Anyone? I can't be the only one interested in purchasing insurance, am I ?
I'm in the same boat as you. GSM GNex on T-Mobile. It would be pretty awesome to have the peace of mind of replacement insurance in case I break or lose mine.
Anyone else have any other recommendations? In the mean time, I have to renew my renter's insurance. I'll see if they have any way for me to specify the phone under the policy.
Looking at http://www.ensquared.com/ this site. I would love to hear about people's opinions on this. Experiences...?
I think the most popular one that I've heard about is Squaretrade.
yes, it is more popular, but doesn't Ensquared offer the same coverage, if not better??
The deductible is more expensive I think for ensquared.
ENSQUARED COVERAGE- ONLINE CHAT.
I just got finished talking to them online (live chat). I wanted to clear up some items of confusion that you brought up.
Please wait for a site operator to respond.
You are now chatting with 'ensquared'
me: hello?
me: I am looking at insurance for android phone.
ensquared: Hi, how may I help you?
me: If the phone malfunctions or just dies, do you cover it?
me: ANd what does it mean when you do not cover "extended warranty?"
ensquared: Yes we do. The website is being updates as of the moment.
ensquared: Your question actually pertains to "Extended warranty" which is also covered under our polocies
me: Can you please explain that?
me: if it malfunctions or dies, do you cover it?
ensquared: Extended warranty means coverage for sudden malfunction or death of the cellphone. It is covered under our platform
me: I see you just changed that?
ensquared: Nope. What I said earlier "Your question actually pertains to "Extended warranty" which is also covered under our policies"
me: Odd. You just changed 2 impt items on your website within the last 48 hours.
me: So what you are telling me is that if my phone malfunctions and does not work, you do not cover it.
ensquared: We do cover "malfunctions and does not work" scenarios
me: Ok. thank you for clarifying.
me: But you just recently changed that on your site?
me: and the pricing , too?
ensquared: Yes, we are actually updating te site even as we speak
me: where can I read user reviews for your service?
ensquared: Pricing has been brought down to corporate pricing level. So it's the lowest we can go
ensquared: You can check out android.com
ensquared: Some forum sites actually does have reviews on us.
me: but you are a paid sponsor there. seems a little biased.
ensquared: Actually, it's a forum site
me: if i have to send my phone to you, what is the turnaround time?
ensquared: So people do ask, even if we are a proud sponsor
me: and do i have to pay for shipping?
ensquared: 2-4 days
ensquared: Yes you will pay for shipping
me: do you replace with new or refurb?
ensquared: Always new. We never send refurb phones
me: Ok.
ensquared: Is there anything else I can assist you with?
me: How do you compare with SquareTrade?
ensquared: Major advantage of Ensquared over Squaretrade is 1st, the replacement phones. As mentioned earlier, we do not send refurbs
me: Good to learn. Anything else?
ensquared: 2nd is our claim limit. With us, you'll get $1000 PER CLAIM, where as Squaretrade has a unified claim limit (usually about 400-800) spread across all of your claims. Meaning, you can easily use up all of your claim limits with Squaretrade in just one claim
me: I see. That is also good to learn. ANything else you can tell me to sway me?
ensquared: That's basically it. I have to be honest with you regarding this, those 2 are the main advantage on going Ensquared. Everything else should be the same
me: Ok. I work in a school and am paranoid about my phone being stolen by some jughead kid. If that happened, what is the process?
ensquared: Just file a police report (needed for both lost/stolen claims) and prepare your original receipt. Once your have the docs, call our claim center at 888-406-7925 ext 2, pay the deductible and that's it
ensquared: In 2-4 days, you'll have a new phone as a replacement
me: That kinda gives me peace of mind.
ensquared: Glad to hear that. =)
So that was our chat. I am still undecided and will prob read the reviews on android. com. HTH anyone else.
I added the Tmobile insurance when I bought my Vibrant last year. It is provided by Assurion, so I called and asked them if my GNex is covered and they said it was. But....and here's the kicker.....they told me I could only replace it with a Tmobile provided "then current" phone. Yeah right! Like I'm going to accept a Samsung Hercules as a Nexus equivalent, and that is after I pay the deductible? No thanks. I'll save my $8/mo. I was expecting this response from them anyway, so I wasn't surprised. I did ask if I could simply pay the deductible, they cover the rest of the cost of my GNex purchase price, send me a check, and I'll replace the phone myself and send them the old one. I liked the idea at least. LOL
I have SquareTrade for my Nexus S and iPad2. Will probably use it again for the Galaxy Nexus. They also give a lot of discounts if you look out for them.
Just FYI, I contacted squaretrade and they DO NOT cover the galaxy nexus GSM version, since it isn't officially a USA phone.
I went with ensquared.
Looks like I will be going with ensquared as well.
And FYI Assurion is a complete joke and waste of money. When the Nexus One was released I switched to T Mobile to get it. After about two months I dropped it without a case and shattered the screen. I called Assurion and they refused to replace my phone with a Nexus One. They said a MyTouch 3G was the best they could do for me. I spoke with 3 people there and they all told me the same thing. I finally resorted to calling HTC and filed a claim with them directly. They over-nighted me a replacement Nexus One and I sent my broken one to them. I had to pay $120 for the replacement but I was OK with that.
Needless to say I immediately cancelled my Assurion coverage and will never use them again.

I bit the bullet. I bought it today. I will post any experiences I have in the future.
You bought ensquared insurance without any problems? I suppose I will have to as well.

No problems that I am aware of. It was an easy process online. Paid thru PayPal. They sent confirmation, invoice, etc...I feel better now when I leave the house. I am paranoid that my phone is going to be stolen.
How much ensquared cost?

i dunno if i wanna buy warranty from these clueless people
Sorry for bumping this thread from the grave, but I figured it was better than having duplicate threads about the same thing.....
I got a galaxy nexus (unlocked gsm and using it on straight talk) and wondering what I should put for the "carrier" spot on ensquareds website.
Should I put "not connected yet" or "tracfone wireless" in that spot?
Thanks

[Q] Recommendation: Best place to order GNex GSM, in terms of warranty support

I'm considering picking up a Galaxy Nexus for use on T-Mobile. The cheaper data plans could really save me some money over Sprint over the course of two years and the phone looks amazing. I've been reading about some of the issues people have encountered (hairline crack, battery charging, display issues, etc...) and it seems like there could be a chance that I would need to return the device for replacement.
I was wondering what is the best store to order the GSM version from, with the understanding that I may need to return it for replacement. From what I've read, Expansys's customer service is atrocious, so I'm planning on avoiding them. I've read a few good things about purchasing through Amazon, which uses a third party seller, Global Mobiles, so that is the option I'm leaning towards currently. Although, I figure the longer I wait, the more the price is going to drop on this phone.
The issue I'm most concerned about is the hairline crack in the screen, although I have not seen any posts about this since the third week in February, so I'm hoping this issue has been fixed by Samsung in the latest batches. Most of the other issues seem like they can be fixed with software/rom changes.
Any suggestions?
Negri also offers warranty assistance. I've never filed a warranty claim, but the few times I did deal with then their customer service it was excellent.

Gonna give a vote for negri electronics. Helps they're based in the US. They handle warranty claims for you and have a solid price right now.
They open every box and inspect so unless its an internal hardware failure you're less likely to get a lemon from them.

Insurance recommendation for Gnex from Google Play

I'm receiving my GSM Galaxy Nexus from the Google Play store today. I'm looking for info on my insurance options and maybe some recommendations. I would like something that also covers a lost or stolen phone. Thanks in advance!
Kirk
I'm using Ensquared, http://www.ensquared.com/
But I can't vouch for them as I've never had to put in a claim. From what I've been reading it seems like a good company, and I checked with the representative there and she said they do cover the phone now that it's sold in the US.
Zagg sent me an email that they are starting to offer an insurance program, their prices looked really reasonable!
SquareTrade nuff said. Best customer service.

[TIP] Best Buy Protection plan on an AT&T store bought phone

If you purchase the GNII at an AT&T store (or from anywhere really) like I did last Friday, you can hold off on the less appealing AT&T Mobile Insurance and pick up the Best Buy Protection Plan. I've done this before with the Captivate and my girlfriend was even allowed to purchase the protection when she brought in her Sensation 4G with a cracked screen then come back in a week to replace it. My experience today started off by being told no by a general store manager when he overheard me asking but was later told it would be allowed by the specific mobile dept manager. Not all stores may be so lenient so you may have to try a couple times and be super nice. There must be a fairly hefty incentive for employees signing up protection plans.
Basic Diference in plans
AT&T Mobile Insurance: $10/month plus $200 at time of replacement
BB Protection Plan: $10/month and NO deductible upon replacement
There are a few more smaller difference but they generally favor the BB plan. Normally I would buy from BB in the first place but they are apparently having a delayed launch. The location I went to today still didn't know when they were being allowed to start selling. This may be something most XDA users know about but with all the insurance posts lately I thought I'd share incase it helps someone pull the trigger on the NII.
I purchased my Note 2 outright for $650 at a Best Buy mobile, and got the 2 year accidental damage replacement plan. Bought the plan outright as well being that it is much cheaper than paying $10/month. (Doesn't hurt that they gave me a discount for buying it all at once either).
Over all their plan is better than what AT&T offers, especially having no deductible and no limit to replacements. But it does NOT cover loss or theft. For that duty I am using Cerberus, and I am 100% pleased with bolth the phone and Replacement plan.
My wife is happy too because she got my GS3

probably should have took this into consideration. my power button broke on my note 2 in 3 days. i cant cut it on. luckily i took it back to at&t and they are going to switch it out for free. I just have to wait until another one comes into stock.
Both companies utilize samsungs warrenty before yours unless it requires damage. Also I pay 7.99 with att and hope never to have physical damage.

This is true. You should be able to do this. A manager will not turn this plan down because it is almost pure profit. This is applicable to almost any product. You must make sure it is a product carried by Best Buy. Usually you have 2 weeks from you date of purchase. Note: they will leverage the Samsung 1 year warranty. If you purchase the accidental plan they will cover the damage out right. Also don't forget Square Trade.
So people will unfortunately lose their jobs at best buy for this. Best Buy only offers the geek squad protection on iphones not purchased at best buy. Not other phones. If a manager is allowing this, it is strictly to boost their numbers on a scorecard, meanwhile losing it all and more on the back side of the business.

It's a tough decision for me to buy insurance since it ends up being the cost of another device on contract. Now that Nexus phones are $300, I don't think I'll get insurance on my note. I extended my apple care on my iphone 4 and never broke it. Never damaged my 4S either, and both were used case-less.
However if I decided to get insurance, the best buy route seems like the best one.
Got it. $169 for two years, seemed like the only logical way to go considering that $9.99 a month costs an extra $80.
I feel dumb as hell asking this now and assuming it in store, but does this plan cover accidental damage? Assumed it did, but I'm now seeing documentation that it doesn't. Not a deal-breaker either way, as the normal wear-and-tear and pixel damage/burn-in protection made the purchase more than worthwhile.
Edit to add: Very little was made of the fact that it wasn't purchased at Best Buy. When I walked up to the mobile counter, the sales rep and department manager were there, along with the store GM. I asked about covering the phone, and the only question was asked by the store GM: "You bought it directly from AT&T, right? Not Amazon or eBay or anyplace like that?". I answered yes, and they got to work on it. No asking for a receipt or anything, just cranked out the sales plan.
That's awesome. Best buy is the way to go!

Good luck with that. I've got a receipt and documentation that says the coverage was purchased. Not sure they could successfully deny covered repairs.

They are "supposed" to only sell the Geek Squad Protection with phones that are purchased directly from Best Buy. But if they let you do it, then just keep your documentation and you should be set. :good:
Its covers normal wear & tear, moisture damage, charging failures, battery replacement, and screen breaks. Does NOT cover full submersion in liquid, or crazy negligent damage like being run over by a car, or thrown against a wall. Nor does it cover contact with bodily fluids.... eww.
Basically if you drop your phone, break your screen, anything that can normally happen like that, you should be covered just fine. Anything more exotic, and it will be up to the discretion of the associate that is processing your repair.
Well, I don't plan on going snorkeling with my phone (although I did spend half an hour in a pool once before I realized that my old Verizon flip phone was in my pocket), nor do I intend to play racquetball with it, you know, as the ball. I'm also leaning decidedly against running over it with a vehicle, or trying to use it as a frisbee. Yep, should be set. :good:

i have no plan to keep my phone for 2 years, i have 3 lines. if something better comes alone, i will sell the Note2. i paying 9.99$ a month.
Thanks for the tip, I purchased my SGSII from Best Buy last year outright, but didn't even think to purchase this. Bricked my SGSII earlier this year, ATT gave me a new one, said I was still under the one year warranty, lol.
ohh great!!! i was about to return my phone to att and purchase it from bestbuy after i got my refund, so do you have to show proof of purchase from att or something?? but i got it from online via att

What is Cerberus?
Best buy protection plan doesn't cover water damage if the phone was totally submerged the AT&T plan covers that and the loss and theft of the phone I thought about the best buy plan but if you look at the details of it it's really not worth it for what it covers

VZ pre-order offer 1 free broken screen replacement a year? Anyone remember this?

Anyone remember part of the pre-order offer where one of the things we got was a once a year free screen replacement? I distinctly remember this being part of the pre-order offer, yet I am having a hard time finding this info online. I AM finding info that there was going to be such an offer - this was in the various media articles telling us what the pre-order offers would be. But I can't find anywhere where someone has actually used this service which was supposed to be there if you preordered either the S8 or S8+ (I actually got both).
Yes, I dropped my phone and for the first time in about 4 years I have a device with a broken screen. It hit on the bottom of the curved edge on the right side - the absolute worst place to hit, on the curved edge. I had it in a pretty stout case, full wrap around flip cover case that covered the entire display, front back and sides. Still wasn't enough and the fall was about 3'....
Anyway, I contacted Samsung and they seem to acknowledge that there was such an offering, but that it was through Verizon and I needed to contact them. I contacted Verizon, and they also seemed to acknowledge that there was such a pre-order offer, but that I needed to go into a Verizon location to get it taken care of. I emailed copies of both chat sessions to myself just in case.
I feel that in the Verizon chat session the person was trying fairly hard not to come right out and say my phone would be covered for such a replacement (I realize they would probably just send a refurb instead of fix my S8+) phone. I do have assurian through VZ, but the deductible of $150 bites. So if anyone else can chime in that has used this once a year free display replacement and/or give further info/evidence that I can bring in to VZ when I visit them today that would be a GREAT help!
TIA!
I don't remember anything specific to screen replacement for the S8 preorder, although I believe you got one free month of Samsung premium care, which is pretty much insurance through samsung with a deductible and all (I believe the actual servicer of it is also Asurant). It is also possible that you are mixing Samsung up with other phones, as I believe HTC had the program you are mentioning.
Either way let us know how it goes.
Thanks for the reply!
I am not mixing this up for offers on other phones. First of all, I have not looked into pre ordering any other phones, ever, except for the Note 7 and the S8+. I did talk to a VZ rep on the phone in person before pre-ordering, and they told me about that added benefit of the once a year display replacement with the pre-order offer and gave me a web link where I then also saw the offer (that pre-order web link is long gone, I have looked for it). It was actually this part of the pre-order offer that made me pull the trigger - getting a free display replacement once a year. I am simply trying to have my ducks in a row before I go in to a VZ store to get this handled as they will likely try to make me use my insurance (which is ridiculously overpriced) and the $150 deductible to boot. And yes, I am aware of the one month free of samsung premium care, this was a different coverage than samsung premium care.
I will update how this goes once I go in to a VZ store. Was going to go today but don't have all the info in hand that I want to have when I go in.
Thanks again for your reply!
Update - neither VZ nor Samsung would honor the pre order offer. Samsung DID acknowledge that it was part of the pre order offer but said the carrier has to honor it, not Samsung. Seems wrong, but I am tired of haggling over it. So I did the Asurion warranty replacement routine - but of course the S8+ is out of stock.... good thing my phone still works!
On a side note, I went ahead and pre ordered the Note 8. Since I was a Note 7 owner (still am actually) I took advantage of the $425 discount off the total for the Note 8. I got the 256gb micro SD and wireless charging dock bundle as my pre order gift. So the Note 8 will cost me $535 on a 24 month zero interest payment plan. I also signed up for Samsung premium care. It is a couple dollars more a month than Asurion, but overall I feel it is a better insurance coverage. The first two months are free with the pre order also.
