Sending GIFs created with SPen? - Note 7 Questions & Answers

Anyone played around with this much? Even standard quality ones just a couple of seconds long will only send as a still image via sms. I'm sure this is to prevent someone from sending huge files over sms, but I couldn't even send a 1.2mb one.

GIFs are generally not going to send over MMS regardless of how they were created, 1.2MB is actually the size limit on MMS.

SMS and MMS

Well basically I am getting charged for some of my text messages and I do not know why.
If I send a long text message will it send as a MMS???
THanks ... this is with T-Mobile
You need to speak to tmobile.
The manual says that an SMS will automatically be converted to an MMS if "very long", but not how long. Can you visually tell when this happens?

Just like when you add a word tot he dictionary it will appear eith "Converting to MMS ..." once it is too long.
if memory serves, it's somewhere between 3 and 5 SMS messages in length where it changes to an MMS.
I always though 5 was the max for text messages on any phone. Then it breaks it down into seperate messages.

Happened to me last week, NOT COOL!
is there a way around this ?
like a config option or something like that ?
is this specific to the desire or android ?
This is standard behaviour for all Android devices, and it applies to the stock messaging app. The reason for this, is that if you are going to send more than three SMSes, it will in most cases be cheaper to send an MMS. This does not of course apply when you have unlimited texts or other discounts.
Until this gets fixed, download a replacement from the market. Try chompSMS or Handcent SMS. The automatic conversion is optional in these.
ah ok
hope this gets fixed fast
using an alternative sms program such as handcent sms or chomp sms gives you the option to break up long text messages into seperate texts instead of converting to mms

[Q] Help: cannot send/receive images Warm 2.2

Hello everyone,
I recently rooted my friend's Droid Incredible, and installed Myn's Warm 2.2. He told me he was unable to send pictures from it. I told him that the image file was probably too large, and it wasn't being compressed down into a size that is acceptable to be sent as sms over the Verizon network. I told him the usual, try restarting your phone, maybe that will help. I tried sending him a picture (1288KB) from my Evo (sprint) and received a message from sprint saying "that the receiving service provider has a size limit for picture and video. My message may not be received." So I have a couple of questions
Does anyone know what that size limit is? Is there a rule of thumb i should remember when sending a photo via sms, like "Dude, don't try to send a photo over 500KB" or something like that.
What Roms will automatically compress images for the user when they are going to send them via sms, is this only on the stock rooted Roms?
Please if you have any suggestions, comments, ideas they are much appreciated
I think the size limit for the INC is 1MB.
I believe the phone sending the picture will automatically resize it if it is bigger then the limit for that phone. But the receiving phone doesn't resize the message sent, I think it has to be 1MB or less.
I am running the latest mikfroyo, it does not. And on his phone is not resizing the images before being sent either. I guess I will just read up on the roms, and try out a couple others on his phone.

[Q] SMS Thread Limit?

Is there a limit to how large a thread with a contact or total SMS limit between all contacts? I currently have almost 4,000 messages in 1 thread and they're all backed up, but I want to make sure I won't randomly start to not receive messages or have SMS force closing on me. Would anyone happen to know?
Don't quote me, but I believe about 4,999 messages (sent or received), as that is what I believe to be roughly the storage size in messaging. I'd double check through menu>settings>applications>manage applications and then check inside the messaging app. I believe the max size is 4,999kb which translates to 4,999 sms if each sms (not mms) is all 120 or 160 characters alloted. Not 100% sure, but I read something along that line.

That many messages is going to slow down your phone like nothing else. You wouldn't believe how much faster your phone will run if you just delete those texts.
You guys were definitely right. My phone was really starting to slow down when there were 3500+~ messages in that contact's thread. On top of the other 750~ or so messages my phone had, it was becoming really slow opening the messenger, receiving, and sending messages. I even had a few FC's. I went ahead and set a 3,000 limit for now and it's back to "normal" operation as far as I'm concerned, but I see what you were talking about with having more than 4,000 or so total messages causing a problem.

[Q] Video MMS question

I have a quick question,
I come from the Epic 4g and when I would want to send a video MMS I would just say that I wanted to attach a video on the SMS app, and when the video recorder would open, it would ask me if I wanted the video compressed for MMS or long duration. Placing it for MMS would let me record a short video that I was able to send out via MMS without issues.
I notice that I can't send an MMS with the Evo, it always says that the file is to large even if its 10 seconds long. I've played with the recorder settings without success.
Can someone point me in the right direction?
Thanks in advance!
What messaging app are you using?
Attachments are based on file size. Not duration of the video. I use Go SMS and for mine the file size limit is 1 MB. So if I have a video that is larger than 1 MB, even if it's only 2 seconds long, I won't be able to attach it. Check your apps file size limit and then record a video that is smaller than that size and then try to send it. If it still doesn't send then try using a different messaging app for testing purposes and see if that app will send a video smaller than its limit.

Sending pictures as a slideshow

Since the latest MMS update I can no longer seem to send pictures as a slideshow, which makes it difficult to send to my wife when she just wants to go through a group and pick which ones to save. Does anyone know how to reactivate that setting?
