Just got my Note 7 SD and it seems the S Pen is not as responsive as it has been on the Note 5 and 4. From what I recall even the slightest touch registered but with the 7 you need to press hard. Is this normal or is mine faulty?
EDIT: seems to only happen when selecting something (using it as a mouse) and not when drawing

I'm having a similar issue. The pen isn't scrolling well and selecting anything takes multiple taps.
I sont have this issue, it works just as the 4 and 5 would
Same here, I used Note 5 SPen on my Note 7 and it registers with the slightest touch but Note 7 SPen takes a bit of pressure. I might go buy new SPen, or maybe there's some way to adjust its potentiometer.
My s pen works fine, no issues of any kind
with my replacement, the s pen behaves a little weird, when lifted from the screen, it is like I have not lifted it, it keeps writing! this makes imposible to write somerhing, as it does not stops and the letters get conected, so, my s pen is over sensible!

Hi all
I have a weirdly frustrating problem with my new Note 2. I have noticed it since day one but thought it was me using it wrong. But I think I have got to the bottom of the issue.
When you hover the pen above the screen, sometimes it acts as if you are touching the screen. For example, if you were to hover over the Skype app shortcut, it will open the app. And during web browsing it will act like the pen is being held on the screen so it scrolls the page. It's does this while swiping across home screens and anything you can think of that you can select.
However, this seems totally intermittent. Most of the time it doesn't do it, but when it does it seems to become worse. I've only tried this once, but at one time it was doing this CONSTANTLY. I just put the pen back into the phone and removed it, and the issue seemed to disappear.
I am making sure I am not holding down the button on the pen. If I do, it does that snipping thing, so holding down the button isn't the issue and is acting like normal.
Any idea what is going on here? Do I have a faulty pen? :S
I would say its more likely you have a faulty screen as the spen itself has not got much in it that can go wrong.
Yes you have a faulty S-Pen
I had the same problem with my S-Pen, and the white part of the pen was a littel loose, I changed the S-Pen and the problem disappeared

I'm not sure what to do.
I bought it from Carphone Warehouse on Friday. Should I contact Samsung about it first or should I go back to Carphone Warehouse with it?
It's an intermittent problem so I don't really want them to give me hassle with proving it's faulty...
Don't mean to double post, but I just found a thread with the exact same issue. It's the pen for sure,

I bought my Nexus 7 2013 32gb model from Amazon and got delivered early before official local availability. I have noticed some touch problems in various apps (Pocket, Youtube, Chrome). I turned on developer settings and then turned on "show touches". When have problems it's like the touches are never registered. It's weird because its not consistent. I am considering sending it back for a replacement, but I have a friend who picked one up locally and has similar issues. I am wondering if this is a bug in 4.3 or something like that.
Any thoughts? Anyone else have this problem? RMA or keep it?
Flashing a different kernel could fix your problem as that is what bridges hardware and software.

Looking to remain stock at the moment. I figure if its a kernel/software problem google will release a fix fairly soon. If it's a hardware problem unique to a small number of devices like mine then I would like to RMA it.

I'm having the same issues in chrome. I do tons of browsing and it seems about every 20 minutes I have to close out and restart the browser session. Anybody recommend another browser in the mean time?

dolphin does the same sometimes. i like NEXT browser
the screen seems to be too insensitive imo.
i tried on my old nexus 7 and nexus 4 to keep swyping between "n" and "d" in the stock keyboard, they register all the gestures without dropping in between. However in the new nexus 7, it often drops my gesturing if i don't press on the screen hard enough.
Kind of makes me wonder if it's the calice I have on my thumb from using lighter too much

I've noticed touch issues on my otherwise flawless screen (no dust, dead pixels, or multitouch issues other than this specific scenario) due to what I assume are grounding issues. I did some testing:
If I lay the tab flat on a table, and touch it with 1 finger, touches are only registered maybe half the time.
If I touch it with 2 fingers, no issues at all.
If I'm holding the tablet in one hand and touching it with 1 finger, no issues.
If I merely touch the case (not even the screen) with one finger while the tablet is flat on a table, and touch the screen with 1 finger, no issues.
Anyone else notice this?
My keyboard inputs letters that I don't physically touch at times when I'm writing a sentence so there definitely appears to be an issue with some units at least. I've never had this same problem on any other touchscreen device.

Exchanging mine tomorrow.
Kills me, I had a 16gb with no issues at all, then earlier this week, exchanged for a 32gb and this one has touch issues! I also noticed right away that this 32 was noticeably more laggy due to a few milliseconds delay when I tap in one of the "bad" areas, which tends to be the top half of my screen.
I have discovered my tablet suffers what seems to be a common problem with other Note models.
I have been a little disappointed with battery life and today noticed the tablet vibrating as I was walking, it was detecting the spen removal every thirty seconds or so, even with the tablet in my hand and relatively still. This turns the screen on.
It is most likely going back tomorrow, sadly for a refund as they have no stock, I've had charging issues too. On two occasions it only reached around 53% powered off charging overnight and only hit 90% one evening when powered on, that said, this has only happened a couple times early on. Maybe just the battery finding it's footing and calibrating itself?
It got me thinking though, I'm using a snugg case with a magnet on the closure. Does anyone know if the spen uses a magnet in the silo?
I do occasionally find that with the cover folded round the back that it can cause the screen to go off, so the magnet must be of a reasonable strength. Maybe it's interfering with the silo detecting the pen?
Any thoughts please?
Im pretty sure its not a magnetic sensor, maybe its a pressure sensor of some sort? (i really have no clue lol)
But I had the same problem with mine, and found that if i physically pressed down on the top of the pen when it was inside the silo,
it would temporarily resolve the problem.
if your s-pen isnt snug and can slide in/out, the tablet might not detect the pen as being inside the silo.
Got my exchanged and the s-pen is MUCH more snug, no problems whatsoever.
Im using the Poetic Slimline case (has magnets) and have been using it for over 2 months now, no problems whatsoever.

Did you go into settings and turn off pen detection? Just a suggestion. I have not had this issues nor have I heard of it before.

That setting seems to do nothing, even after reboot. Still detects the pen in and out. Is that normal? Doesn't sound like it.
Short explanation:
"An electromagnetic field is generated from a circuit behind the screen. The S Pen picks this up and uses it to power itself and figure out its position relative to the screen. It sends this, along with information from the S Pen button and the nib at the end, back to the Note."

I'm sure S-pen detection is the feature where it lets you know if you walk away with your tablet without the s-pen.
My S-pen and Silo are both fine and it still vibrates and I have detection off too.

From what I've read, the tablet doesn't have that walk away feature and it's limited to the note phones.

S-Pen detection disables the digitiser if the S-Pen is IN the holster. It save a bit of power.
I have the HM5100 Bluetooth Pen. It works like this.
With "Disable pen detection" unchecked I can use the BT spen while the note' spen is still in the holster.
With "Disable pen detection" checked the BT spen does not work util I remove the note' spen from the holder.

That makes sense, thanks.
I was texting and i used my S Pen to hover over the attachment button to get the last 4 images.. clicked an image and sent it... no issues.
sat the pen on the desk... went to grab it about 2 minutes later and it wouldnt work..
absolutely no response what so ever.
re-insterted the S pen into the device and it was registered. pulled it back out and my action memo popped up but S Pen still non funtional.
rebooted... nothing...
tried replacing the tip and it got even more wierd.
now.. it writes without touching the screen.. as if the device thinks its already touching the device (about 2 cm above)
it will also select an icon and move it without it even touching the screen. it will also do tis without even having a tip in it. also not getting the pointer icon when hovering over. and the writing seems to be off to the side slightly from the point.
do i simply need to adjust the sensitivity down? the sensitivity was perect before i dont understand what happened. the phone is not even 5 days old yet.
If the phone is 5 days old solution seems simple: back up your phone book and apps and do full factory reset, if that doesn't work take it to T-mobile and have them check with different pen and replace either phone or pen.

Got it working.. had to pop off the button and adjust the sensitivity back about a full revolution... still dont understand what happened.. but atleast its working like normal again
I'm glad you got it fixed, but it's strange it changed settings like that all by itself, could the coil inside the pen move up or down, especially when you inserted new tip? I would closely monitor it, I'm not sure about s-pen in particular, but heard accessories are covered only for 90 days. I never had to adjust my s-pen, so it could be something loose inside yours and it could affect it's performance again in future.
I don't think so... it was super hard to turn.. it was too small for even my old glasses screwdriver so I had to use the tip of a lock pick tool and it was pretty stiff

Hey there xda,
I have a question regarding odd s pen functionality. I am here to pick your brains.
My brand new tab s4 SM-T830 came with a possibly defective pen. The pen is always on. A cm from the screen or so it displays the cursor correctly, but a bit closer the cursor disappears and the pen is immediately active. It writes without touching or any button pressing. Instead of showing the cursor till a screen touch occurs it swipes the screens or long presses buttons or, where applicable, writes. The pen basically non-stop touchlessly interacts with the screen.
I tried switching tips, no fix. I tried the pen on an older note 10.1 2014 edition, the weird behaviour is on. I tried the old note 10.1 2014 pen on the new S4 and the pen behaves correctly and as expected.
Is this a bug or a feature? Is this behaviour intended for this pen model or is it a faulty behaviour? What would you suggest as a fix?
Android 8.1.0 ARK4
The device came from a bigger chain store so it is unlikely that they'd replace the pen only and I already set up this tablet so nicely... I am interested in possible solutions other than resetting and returning it. But ultimately if need be i will do so.
Thanks for your kind answers and help in advance.

Faulty pen. The calibration distance is off. Possibly something assembled incorrectly in it. I have 4 different S-pens from different devices and they all behave the same (correctly) as the new one that came with my S4.

For further reference: The tablet has been returned to me in working condition. I can not see in the documentation if a new pen was supplied or if the original was serviced. The tablet was refreshed to Android 9, not something I asked for or wanted.
It has obviously been something for the warranty repair center.
Thanks for your help with this.
