"Compatibility patch" update showed up in my notification area. When I clicked on it, it took me to the LG software update section and said that this file is needed to fix some issues with app compatibility.
After installing the program asks to reboot the phone. Once the notification is clicked on, the phone reboots.
Phone is not rooted. It seemed a little sketchy since there's really no other information anywhere else on the net. It seems a bunch of other people have got this but no real info.
Just wondering if anybody else has got this update.
Thanx.
I didn't get this "comp patch" as an individual update. Last week, I got the update with the security patches from July 1 (German G4, no branding), and it looks like that this patch was included. It now shows in the list of installed LG applications, where it didn't appear before. My wife (LG G3) got this patch as a single install (~1 week ago).
I have got this compatibility patch too, and in description of this app is 20160809 so it is 1 week old. But what was going about in that "fix"... :/
I've got the patch today too. But haven't rebooted yet.
U talking about this one? What is that supposed to do?
I have got this update and now it keep asking to reboot in notification bar. I have done restart many times but no luck.

If you have the encryption on then turn it off and reboot. That should resolve the issue and then you can turn it back on. Hope it works for you.

Hi Akarshad, I've got exactly the same issue. Installed, rebooted multiple times and the notification to reboot is still there telling me to reboot to finalise the install.
Problem with the Patch
I got the same patch on my LG V10. Thinking nothing of it I agreed to install and reboot. Once I had done so, I now have the Yellow Boot Warning at every boot. And also a bunch of my system apps stopped working. Camera, Phone, Music. I don't remember ever flashing a ROM that would trigger the warning seeing as how I got the update to 6.0.1 a few days before and hadn't done anything since. So I flashed back to stock with LGUP and the problems still persist. This is my first post ever, any advice. I apologize as I know this is a LGG4 thread.
If you did anything to the system image, you may have issues applying the OTA. @SixTheAmateur: did you modify in any way your V10? Did you flash a KDZ not officially available to your V10?

I've had massive compatibility issues with my g4 and apps I like to use. I noticed this today and definitely installed it. I have been able to use the apps I hadn't been able to use.
It seems to be going well so far. I'd say do it.
It seems to be frozen/disabled after installing, odd.

Compatibility Patch Mystery to T-Mobile and LG
I got a notice for a compatibility patch several weeks ago.
Rather than click I contacted LG, who knew nothing of it.
So I contacted T-Mobile, my carrier, and they knew nothing of it and suggested I don't down load it.
It popped up again today and I'm going to ignore it until I understand what it will do.
Good Luck!
Similar experience. I had issues with my phone afterward and had to get a new one.

Hello All,
Starting from a couple days ago, my S3 started to display, in the notification area, a "T-Mobile update service". This notification can only be delayed a maximum of 1 day, after which it kept re-popping up.
I have just finally rooted my S3 and got all my settings and adjustments to my liking, and I'm afraid that after the update I would need to re do everything again. I'm wondering if there is a way to update it without affecting my current settings, root and etc. Does anyone knows if the update is root-able? Thanks all for all the help!

You should root with the "No tripping flash counter option".
I rooted with that option " No tripping flash counter option". would root keeper still work with that kind of root? How do i use a root keeper? i have never used it before. Thanks for all the help!

Got this notification this morning. Does anyone have a change log for it?
On a side note: My girlfriend did the update a few days ago. Her phone is bone stock unrooted and it shut off and we couldn't turn it on for more then a day. I finally booted back up. Seems fine now but sluggish.

Here it is. I guess since I copied someone else's quote, the link was not properly copied on my post. but anyways, has anyone figure this whole t mobile update thing out? the notification kept popping up! Any help would be greatly appreciated! thanks
Hello All,
Is there not one person with a rooted S3 that had encountered the same problem I had? Nobody else with a rooted S3 T mobile provider encountered the same update notification? Please share your experience! thanks
I have also encountered the same problem. Got a notification several days ago about an update for my phone. Phone is rooted. Installation failed. Notification disappeared for a few days and popped again. Now I can't install the update or get rid of the notification. I tried root keeper from the market and it still didn't install. Now it appears to pop up every so often and will stay at the notification bar.
any suggestions?

I had the same issue over the past couple days and the annoying notification prompted me to do something.
This is thread is the solution to your exact problem: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1842142&highlight=counter
Basically, you have to revert back to stock recovery if you have cwm(like me) so flash that in pda with odin. Then updating didn't work for me via the phone (failed), so I had to download kies (from the link) and reboot pc, and connect phone and download. Root keeper didn't work for me. I also lost google wallet. But from this step on you can use the nontripping flash method which was updated here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1771687
and download custom recovery. Apparently even if you trip the counter though,(which you won't) you can triangle away app to get rid of it. Good luck! btw.. brightness toggle is added to the notification. Worth it for that alone!

Its been covered quitte a bit actually.if you dont want the update just let it attempt and fail and it should go away.
Other options are deleting the fwupgrade.apk and fotaclient.apk. also delete the downloaded ota located at /cache/fota (I think im remembering the location correctly).
Note: The update may fail either due to a custom recovery or running a deodexed rom. Root alone shouldn't prevent it.

Thanks!
** EDIT ** Turns out that's not my issue, or maybe not - I cant get the OTA update to 4.3 - and the updater service isn't running - So I assumed that was my issue .... Anyone have an idea what to do? If I click the software update it does nothing, just sits there...

For now I wouldn't worry about the 4.3 update as it is super buggy and battery draining. AT&T has yet to issue the 4.3 update to consumers after pulling it due to an outcry from customers about how bad it was. Until they issue the update again (who knows when that'll be knowing AT&T) then just stick to 4.1.1 or 4.1.2 if you're using Touchwiz. Just my advice.

Thanks - Always appreciate the input from other members - Odd thing is, my wifes phone updated via the OTA about 2 hours ago - So it would appear that AT&T has it in the update servers still ....
I would like to know why mine just sits there when you select Software Update - doesn't even think, just does nothing ....

Oh that's odd, I thought they pulled the update entirely.
As far as why yours just sits there I've had the same problem in the past. I've been told it usually has something to do with your Google account being synced to the device (Sounds completely contradictory to what it SHOULD be, I know) but that's the only thing I've heard regarding this particular issue.
This was the process I was told to perform to fix this:
1. Factory reset (I know, bummer)
2. During the setup process, do NOT enter your Google account information - skip this step instead.
3. When the phone finishes the setup process, go to Settings >> Software Update and see if your phone picks up the update.
This worked for me several times so try that and if it doesn't work then I'm sure another member can lead you in the right direction.

I feel like a moron because mine hasn't updated automatically from 4.4.4. Any way to force the Lollipop update? I already checked and have the 24 wait period in effect. Thanks!
Happened to me as well. Go into settings, time and date, uncheck the automatic date/time function and move the date 1 day ahead. I would reboot the phone just in case, and check it again.

Weird - just did all that and it still says software is up to date. Any other suggestions?
Called AT&T to see if they could push Lollipop to my device. No dice. Tried the "move ahead one calendar day" trick, but it didn't work. Now it shows that I can't check again for 702 hours. Ha! Any other suggestions? Maybe it just hadn't rolled out to everyone yet. I'm in Chicago, if that matters.
If you don't have an issue wiping your data then you can use the stock Odin file in the general sub to flash it back to stock and update again.
I had my wife's phone updated with a push from AT&T. She had the same issue. They have to file a ti let and tech department did it but took a few days.

Also if you factory restore your phone it will go back to the default 24hr wait.
I haven't really messed around with root stuff in a while, but I know even without root we used to be able to download the update, put it in the root or the SD card and rename it update.zip . Does this not work anymore? I really thought there would be a way to force the update somehow..

That would work if someone has captured the zip file or the download URL, which no one has done. Virtually every 5.0.1 related thread has someone asking for this, with the same response. No one has it, and if they did, it would be available in a stickied post.
Oh the woes of waiting for updates lol.
I remember with my OG moto droid waiting for 2.1 lol.
And how 2.2 blew my mind. Now look at it.
i had to flash oem kitkat to my att note 4, which right after the flash immediately got lollipop.
if you do got to the Samsung kiosk have them re-flash kitkat. then the download for lollipop will update after setup.
Force update to marshmallow?
Hi, absolute idiot when it comes to stuff like this.
So, i was searching through my apps list when i noticed AT&T software update.
I dont need any AT&T applications as i am in Australia and do not have AT&T.
i have tried to force an update by following the clearing data and force stopping the Google services frame work.
tried it multiple times, nothing.
Then i thought i could disable the app of the AT&T software update, and then i fell deeper into the rabbit hole of how OSPolice got in trouble and how there is 2 versions of package disabler pro.
So here i am, stuck with 5.1.1 and i have no idea what to do.
No, i am not going to root it. This is an AT&T phone, with a bootlocker on it. If anyone, *ANYONE*, can help me solve this small issue that would be much appreciated.
In just one day, Android OS used 269mb of data. Anyone know what's going on? Saw a thread for the Android OS draining battery, and my issue is a bit different. Also, on wifi it used 2.66g in about 4 days.
7.11 Rooted.
I do not nor ever have favebook installed.
Thanks!
I have the same problem. I just posted the same question. Wish I had have seen this beforehand.
It's probably trying to update and failing due to being rooted. This will cause the device to continually download the update. Are you on the latest uodate/January security patch?

Yea, it seems like the update thing is what causes it.
Disabling automatic updates doesn't seem to help either. This is a pretty huge bug...
So my only option is to update, and then CONSTANTLY check if theres an update, and if there is then IMMEDIATELY turn off networking... ****ing great.
Maybe a custom rom wont have this issue...

It is a super annoying bug. This is exactly why I haven't even bothered rooting yet, Nougat coupled with dual boot is gonna take a while to become mature with development. A custom rom would def solve this particular issue but they're all kind of young right now. Though I have read a few are dd status. Glad that is all that it was! On the plus side, you only have to worry about it after the 5th of every month! Looks like you'll just have to reflash twrp and superu https://forum.xda-developers.com/pixel-xl/how-to/guide-update-fastboot-t3498187
I need a bit of help here. I "unrooted" via the Super SU app. Rebooted, tried to update. Still failed. I also have lost root. Super annoying. Is there anything else that the updater is expecting that i haven't restored???
Came across this this morning https://m.reddit.com/r/GooglePixel/comments/5o816g/solved_extreme_data_usage_by_android_os/. This should help you guys with the drain and then you only have to take the OTA via flashing it whenever you choose. Do note, I haven't tried this yet, so I can't confirm but others report it working.

Easiest way is to just download the full factory image and use the flashall.bat to do it. Edit out the -w so your apps and data are saved. Then reroot it.
My pixel xl started bootlooping. I can get into fastboot but that's it. If I try to boot twrp, bootloop, if I flash stock, bootloop. I've tried Oreo, pie. This came out of nowhere. I tried a gsi, bootloop. I'm very confused. The memory works because its flashing. Something has to be triggering a reboot. Only thing I know of that forces restart is unencrypted internal storage

I bought a one plus literally a week ago. Lucky on my end. Whatever google did it is bad. I opened up the kernel and disabled the securities. Unencrypted the data. Still nothing. I've manually flashed over every partition 1 by 1, switched to the other slot and tried there. This looks like its going to be a battle. I've got a feeling what we flash isn't copying over some things because it keeps the newest version, which is why we can flash but not overwrite the problem
