Hi all,
I just successfuly s-offed my HTC10 but on every reboot I have this very annoying red message:
"This build is for development purposes only do not distribute outside of HTC without HTC's permission ..."
Is there's a way to get rid of this?
Thanks!
It's nothing to be worried about.

In that case it should go away if you revert to stock and switch it back to S-ON or look here, but there is currently nothing you can do if you're on the latest WWE firmware as there hasn't been a custom aboot made for it.

This stupid, ugly error message is due to a non-stock kernel. As long as you're running a stock kernel, this shouldnt show up (atleast for me). I am currently running Viper10 2.7.0 and it doesnt show that message on startup. Now, if i go and flash elementalx kernel, that message will be displayed. The way to get rid of this is to either download a modified aboot image or modify it yourself via hex editor. There are simple instructions on how to do this for the htc m9, here on XDA. I dont have a link, but a quick search should be able to find it. Another thing you can do is download a modified aboot image from the link in the previous post and download the corresponding stock aboot image of the same version and use a program like "Beyond Compare" to load up both files and do a side by side comparison. It will show you exactly what was modified. Basically it comes down to just erasing the message in a hex editor and reflashing. Please exercise EXTREME CAUTION if choosing to do this. Aboot is a CRITICAL partiton which contains the bootloader. I would imagine if aboot gets flashed improperly or is hex edited incorrectly, the device is toast. Good luck!
Hi All,
I just S_OFFed with LOCKED bootloader my WWE HTC 10, converted to US Unlocked (cid: BS_US001 / mid: 2PS650000) and restored the latest firmware using ruu I downloaded from HTC US website. I also have that red message when I start my phone up. Is it okay when I'm using stock rom without root?

It does not bother me, I'm just curious whether is there US unlocked htc 10 that is not a dev phone? Like on cid BS_US001 I can't disable "Usage and error reporting" because it says " Notwithstanding the above statement, this is a test device and HTC's property. By using this device, you understand and agree...." blablabla. Is there other cid for US Unlocked (what cid US citizens have?) , but not dev/ HTC property one ??

Theres a app in your system called udove.apk. Delete that and that's the forced error reporting.
This happens when i flash custom kernel. Using both stock marshmallow and Nougat
My video even shows it.

Hey team
I think I may have the opposite issue to most people here, I have just received my phone back from getting repaired (By the Parallel Import company here in New Zealand) and it has been returned to me with S-Off and CID: 1111111.
I would prefer to have a stock phone in order to get OTA updates (I know, the opposite of what most uses of XDA want and am happy to trade phone for a stock hand set)
I was given this TUT to restore my hand set back to HTC_044 (or maybe even VODAP022 the New Zealand Vodafone CID) but am receiving the error "waiting on device", I have tried unplugging and replugging it back in a number of times and have booted in fast boot to check it does change to "fast-boot usb" but am still getting "waiting for device".
I was wondering if anyone could tell me is the below method correct or is there a better way to get my phone back to a stock "off the shelf" device?
Thanks in Advance (easy on the Troll rage if possible)
Cheers
Firstly, you need to install ADB tools,
DOWNLOAD FOR OTHER PLATFORMS -> SDK Tools Only -> Windows
Download the one of package and install ADB SDK Tools.
If you don’t have JAVA SE Development Kit, you also need to install it in order to install ADB Tools. Please note that, you have to install JAVA SE Development Kit not just JAVA SE with 32bit (x86).
You will have instruction while you install ADB Tools any way.
Once you install ADB tools, open my computer -> c:\ -> Program Files(x86) -> Android
Right click on SDK manager and run SDK Manager.exe with Administration access.
Click Android SDK Platform-tools and press Install packages.
If the install is finished, you can see the new folder called platform-tools on Android folder.
Press SHIFT Key + right click on Platform-tools folder and click something say “Command”. Hot key is (W)
If you done correctly, commend window will open.
Please connect the phone with debugging mode (From the phone, go to setting -> Development -> select USB Debugging).
Now, type the following commend on the commend window.
fastboot oem writecid HTC_044
If you have done correctly, your super CID is now HTC_044,
044 is the Asian CID so you can update the phone with the latest of Asian firmware.
You can also choose HTC_001 or any other number. These numbers are represent all regions.

Worked like a charm!!
Just run Check CID from the market and it has come up with HTC_044
Have also just run the "check for updates" but still not getting 4.0.4 or Jelly bean but that may be a separate issue. Now that I am back to Stock.
<--- "thank" Clicked!
Cheers, your a phone saver!!
I know my original issue is now resolved but I was informed once the CID was returned to normal the phone would be "stock" again but I am still not receiving OTA updates.
Is there more to resetting the phone to stock?
As in do I need to get the phone turned to "S-Off" or do I need to flash an RUU (I believe however the phone has not been "rooted")
Phone info as it stands now:
CID: HTC__044
Software number: 1.28.708.10
Android: 4.0.3
Baseband 1.1204.103.14
Would giving you any of the following help?
Kernel version,Build Number
P.S. Please tell me my only mistake before was'nt just that I was using "HTC_044" and you have two under scores "HTC__044"
Thanks for your help again
What I can see here is your software version no. is not for HTC__044.
HTC__044's software version no. is *.**.707.*
I like to suggest that you flash the 2.17.707.3 RUU (since you changed your CID to HTC__044) and you should receive JB OTA update.
There is no JB OTA yet for x.xx.708.x

Your right, my software before I sent the phone to the Tech team was "2.17.707.3"
What region is 708?
Will flashing a 707 RUU return me to a stock handset or will I need to flash a new update manually each time?
Does that also mean my phone has been rooted? would not have thought an authorised HTC repair agent would have done that (that is if I believe that the phone was sent to an authorised agent, cant be sure with a Parallel importer)

No, your phone is not rooted. It just that you have a very lucky phone with s-off and cid:111111. 708 is Asia_HK
With your CID:111111, you can flash any RUU that you want, something that S-On device cannot do
Once you flash 707 RUU, you will receive update for 707, no need to manually flash each time. The system will accept your device as 707
I am telling you, man. In a few weeks time you'll change your mind about having an S-OFF phone. Don't trade it! I also have an S-OFF HTC One X and I didn't care much for that thing but after a few weeks of reading, I came to realize how lucky I am to have this phone. The things you can do with S-OFF!

Thanks Ckpv5
I have had a search tho and every thing I have found including the http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/HTC_One_X seems to say that I need to be "unlocked" to flash a RUU. Can you point me in the right direction of flashing without unlocking?

You read it wrong mate
To flash a RUU, you need a "locked" or "relocked" bootloader.
I believe your device is not rooted so your bootloader is "locked"
What you need to do is, reboot to fastboot (press power +volume down for a few second, you'll be in hboot, press power once, you'll be in fastboot mode).
Connect your device to PC then double click the RUU, follow the the updater instruction, you are good to go
I would like to remind you guys as i have mentioned a billion times before (and no one believed me) that OTA updates and sent by IMEI ONLY ONLY ONLY.
No matter what your phone's CID/software number/colour/origin, if HTC didn't include your IMEI on the OTA update list you will never ever receive it. In case you really need the update, you can contact HTC with your IMEI. (they will most likely ask you to send it back to a service centre)
whether the OTA update will work on not, THAT depends on your CID.

If that is correct my IMIE number should already be in there as my phone was originally HTC__044 and 707. As per my opening post I'm just trying to get it back to that.
Or are you saying that makeing those three details match still won't do the trick?

I just got my M8 Developer Edition a couple of months ago. CID is BS_US002. MID: 0P6B12000. The only thing I did to the phone was to root it, nothing else. I didn't S-OFF or anything. The only thing before updating to Lollipop, SuperSU binary update failed, I didn't root again as Lollipop was around the corner and was going to do it anyway. While rooting Lollipop, I found at HBoot that Software status: Modified. What could be the reason for that? How can I fix that? I unrooted, did a factory reset and nothing changes.
Here are the full details on HBoot
Software status: Modified
UNLOCKED
M8_UL_CA PVT SHIP S-ON
HBOOT-3.19.0.0000
RADIO-1.24.21331147A1.096
OPENDSP-V48.2.2-00564-M8974_FO.1211
OS-4.16.1540.8
eMMC-boot 2048 MB
Any idea how to fix that?
Thanks in advance!

It's not simply being unlocked as the device ships direct from HTC with the bootloader unlocked. That being said I have no idea what makes it switch to "Modified" status. Mine is S-OFF with custom rooted ROM (though it is sense-based and pretty close to stock) and custom recovery and it still displays as "Official".

No log actually. But Thank you very much
after getting a M9 i wanted to return my M8 back to stock so ive
- locked the bootloader
- reset the tampered flag
- changed the cid to HTC__002 (which might be a error)
- flashed the ruu from here: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=95916177934518148
after the reboot ive discovered the demoflo.apk on the phone and figured out that ive uses the wrong cid
so then ive changed the cid to HTC__102 (whats the correct cid for me)
flashed the ruu again and the demo stuff is gone
but when i tried to turn of htc and related stuff, the phone still syas that its a demodevice and property of htc
ive got the phone from my provider and ive wouldt be very p****d if they sold my a demo-device
the phone is working fine, but unsalealble because of this fact
ive solved this problem
i simply forgot to put the phone to s-on
with s-off and stock rom it will act like a testing device from htc

If your phone is S-OFF your phone displays at reboot an red text message "This build is for development purposes only. Do not distribute outside of HTC...". It says nowhere about a demo device. That's because what you have then is a Developer ed. device. There's nothing to be concerned about. The phone works either way the same.

Ok, that's one of the messages from the initial set-up. It's because of the S-OFF. I would not be alarmed and leave S-OFF for good. You could brick your phone changing it back to S-ON and flashing a rogue rom on it. Did you use Sunchine to make it S-OFF? Preferably to leave it S-OFF.
this message appeared after ive flashed a stock ruu
ive put S-On and every thing is fine, the phone is now back in full stock, so i can sell it because ive moved to the m9

That text is normal for an unlocked phone. Are you saying it doesn't boot at all?
Did you update firmware via OTA or something else?
Please tell us what is displayed on your download info screen (remove IMEI and S/N).

It's probably related to the version of su you tried. Use 2.65
Sent from my 0PJA2 using XDA-Developers mobile app
As stated, the red text is normal. You need to check the filesize and md5 of the file you flashed. Supersu 2.65 gives best results to get it running.

Hi, everybody, This is my first thread in this wonderfull comunity.
I own a HTC one m9 Hima UHL
-Android 5.0.2
-Sense 7.0
-Soft. version: 1.10.709.2
-MID: 0PJA11000 (the original was 2PRG10000)
-CID: 11111111 (the original was HTC__621)
-What is really great is that I GOT S-OFF AND BOOTLOADER UNLOOKED (also rooted by KINGO app)
As the title says I can boot into android and use my phone normally, but due to a several tries to update my phone to android Nougat, I surelly did something wrong
-RUU.EXE NOT WORKING (I just tried with RUU1.36.709.3.exe)
Not because of the version, is bause I can not enter in download mode, afeter running the wizard it just reboot the device.
-I DO CAN ENTER TO BOOTLOADER MODE
But anithing to do from here, if I go to to recovery (latest TWRP installed when download mode still working) or download mode, It goes to the same place "nowere", just appear a message bellow about flashing unoficial Rom, and legal stuffs, etc......
PLEASE ANY HELP (about something not tried yet) WILL BE TOTALLY APPRECIATE
I JUST WANT TO TAKE MY PHONE TO STOCK AGAIN (keeping the s-off and boatloader)
PS:
I read that once getting s-off and bootloader unlocked, it would be normal to "Cross-Flash firmware", so what I was trying to do before messing all up was to install a different firmware (different SKU or region, e.g. 3.x.617.x), and once there apply the recent released 4.19.617.1. (If somebody can correct me about this as well it would be great, but my priority now is to reset my phone to factory, no problem about personal data loss)

Hi, everybody, This is my first thread in this wonderfull comunity.
I own a HTC one m9 Hima UHL
-Android 5.0.2
-Sense 7.0
-Soft. version: 1.10.709.2
-MID: 0PJA11000 (the original was 2PRG1000)
But anithing to do from here, if I go to to recovery or download mode, It goes to the same place "nowere", just appear a message bellow about flashing unoficial Rom, and legal stuffs, etc......

First of all: Please reduce the size of the text in your post. It's hard to read.
You can flash RUUs for different regions with S-OFF but you don't own a M9. The M9 has 0PJA***** model IDs. Your phone's original model ID is 2PRG1000. It's probably a M9+ or a M9+ Prime Camera edition or something like that. These devices are completely different than the M9. Therefore you shoudn't flash any M9 files on your phone unless you want a fancy new paperweight.
I recommend you reverting your MID and your CID back to their original values and try to flash a RUU for your device. (I don't know whether there is one you could use. I don't own your device and therefore have no knowledge about the file that are available for it.) If you can't find a suitable RUU you'll need to contact Llabtoofer's RUU Service.

Dear sir, @Flippy498
Im really greatful for your answer, I can not understand why I did not see what is obvious, It is not the model I thought...
Besides de MID, the product is not Hima, but HIMARUHL, the ram 2gb and Camera 13mp... (yeahh Im very silly)
I searched over Internet and badly there is not too much information about this especific MID number (2PRG10000), wich I think now belonges to a "HTC ONE M9E". Beyond the fact that there is a RUU available or not, I think I can not install one, because once an ruu.exe is runned this one tried to enter to download mode, wich is unavailable, then reboot and throw the error "USB communication failed", Before messing up the phone, the RUU.exe throwed the "signature error" WICH I UNDERSTAND NOW, because I was trying tu run the wrong one; so I appreciate if you suggest me another way different to ruu.exe installing.
Thanks for your great attendance.

Your phone seems to have a mediatek processor. Those devices need to get handled a bit different than snapdragon devices. However, I absolutely have no experiences with mediatek devices. If I were you I'd contact the service I linked in my earlier post...
