[solved]M8 turned into a demo version? - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

after getting a M9 i wanted to return my M8 back to stock so ive
- locked the bootloader
- reset the tampered flag
- changed the cid to HTC__002 (which might be a error)
- flashed the ruu from here: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=95916177934518148
after the reboot ive discovered the demoflo.apk on the phone and figured out that ive uses the wrong cid
so then ive changed the cid to HTC__102 (whats the correct cid for me)
flashed the ruu again and the demo stuff is gone
but when i tried to turn of htc and related stuff, the phone still syas that its a demodevice and property of htc
ive got the phone from my provider and ive wouldt be very p****d if they sold my a demo-device
the phone is working fine, but unsalealble because of this fact

ive solved this problem
i simply forgot to put the phone to s-on
with s-off and stock rom it will act like a testing device from htc

If your phone is S-OFF your phone displays at reboot an red text message "This build is for development purposes only. Do not distribute outside of HTC...". It says nowhere about a demo device. That's because what you have then is a Developer ed. device. There's nothing to be concerned about. The phone works either way the same.

Ok, that's one of the messages from the initial set-up. It's because of the S-OFF. I would not be alarmed and leave S-OFF for good. You could brick your phone changing it back to S-ON and flashing a rogue rom on it. Did you use Sunchine to make it S-OFF? Preferably to leave it S-OFF.

this message appeared after ive flashed a stock ruu
ive put S-On and every thing is fine, the phone is now back in full stock, so i can sell it because ive moved to the m9

Failed rom upgrade.. Stuck at Ruu screen!!!

Hey
I had loads of problems with my desire hanging so i decided to try and download the htc generic roms and run them!
RUU_Bravo_HTC_Europe_1.15.405.1_Radio_32.30.00.28U_4.05.00.11_release_121684
Also tried
RUU_Bravo_HTC_Europe_1.15.405.3_Radio_32.30.00.28U_4.05.00.11_release_121865
but they all hanged during the upgrade so now im totally stuck with a black screen or the White ruu screen saying:
------------------
BRAVO Unknown Ship S-ON
HBOOT-0.75.0000
MicroP-031d
Touch Panel SYNT0101
RADIO-4.05.00.11

RUU
-----------------
Is there any way to save my desire or is it bricked? and should i send it to htc support? I should have warranty i hope since its merely 2 month old!
One more question, before i ran these roms i HAVE NOT rooted my desire! Do i have to do so? My desire is currently still UNROOTED! Could that be the reason why the rom upgrades are failing or is it possible to do them on unrooted desires?
Although i dont even know if its possible to root it in this state.....
Is your handset branded? If so, did you create a goldcard?
Exactly what state is your handset currently in? Does it boot to use as normal?
If I were you I would read THIS and root your phone. Then install any rom you want. There are official and custom roms galore in the dev section.
If you have tried to install an incorrect rom on the phone and messed it up then I doubt HTC would honour the warranty anyway so there is no fear in rooting it! The only known bricking issue on these phones has a fix now so you haven't lost anything.
My phone boots up to that RUU error message so it doesnt boot!
The problem was it stopped booting all of a sudden with the original rom! It just hanged at the White startup screen with the green HTC letters!
But i could enter the Fastboot, Recovery, etc... menu!
So with that i tried with the USB to download the generic original roms! But after they failed (both of them) now each time i boot i get the HTC blackscreen with the error triangle inside!
But i can still install new roms, through the usb but none of them can finish after like 80% so they can still connect to the phone from the computer through usb!
The phone is unbranded as in not connected to any operator like vodafone or such! and its not rooted either!
so u think i should try to root it?
If it is definitely unbranded then no goldcard is needed. I'd say you should go for it and try to root it. Just to confirm it's unbranded, it doesn't have any network operator software on it at all? No boot screen or any operator apps or anything?
You will need to check the link I gave you and follow the instructions religiously! It's actually a fairly painless process. I found the easiest was the tiny core linux method. You don't need any linux experience to use it as you just type in about 4 lines of text.
Failing that, if it simply never goes past the boot screen then no one will know you tried to root! So it would be a simple warranty return to the place you got it, and as far as you are concerned you got up one morning and the phone was off. You tried to turn it on and the rest is history! I told the carphone warehouse that and was given a new handset there and then, but was within my first 14 days of contract. It was a usb brick in my case and there was no fix for ir then. There is now though..
okay so im getting almost all the way on step 1!
except at the end of every push of files it says
FAILED (remote: 51 partition update fail)
anyone know any fix? also how do i know which bootloader i have 0,75 or 0,8 and which rom i have previously??
before everything i know i had android 2.1 .. is that my rom too? like 1.21?

To check your bootloader, switch the phone on by pressing the volume down button while pressing power. The second line of text will say HBOOT the number after that is your bootloader.
As for that error... No idea. Sorry!
dang... anyone got any ideas bout the error 51? and how to fix it?
try rooting with goldcard method
Also stuck with RUU USB
Did you get a resolution for this? I'm experiencing a bad time with RUU USB too. My phone started out as an unbranded Magic 32A from HK and seems to be a European now, as it only likes installing the European RUUs (and even then only goes as far as 36%)!
EDIT:
I've since had it repaired by HTC themselves. Their engineers couldn't fix it (allegedly) so they replaced the mobo.
Cost me HK$1500! F***!

[Q] TAMPERED, RELOCKED, Security Warning, NO Recovery works but stock ROM works!

[SOLVED]
As you can see in the title I have a lot going on.
I followed the correct steps to unlock the bootloader and it was successful as at one point I saw:
***TAMPERED***
***UNLOCKED***
Right off the bat I don't understand the reason for the "tampered" flag, but moving on...
For the record here is the other info below exactly as I see it:
EVITA PVT SHIP S-ON RL

After trying to flash different version of CWM Recovery with NO luck, I was stuck in a bootloop. Rebooted to FASTBOOT, erased cache, stock ROM loaded right away. At this point, every time I tried to flash ANY recovery (stock or CWM), I'd get the following message:
"This build is for developement purposes only Do not distribute outisde of HTC without HTC's written permission. Failure to comply may result in legal action."
And then it would proceed to a bootloop. I can't even use "FACTORY RESET" or get to the stock recovery, haven't been able to since the beginning.
At this point I thought to try "fastboot oem lock" and try again. That's precisely when I started to get this at the top of HBOOT:
***TAMPERED***
***RELOCKED***
***Securty Warning***
(Security Warning seems to come and go as it pleases at different times when accessing HBOOT, very awkward)
The interesting thing is, through all of this (as long as the phone allowed me to or as long as I erased cache through fastboot), the stock ROM (Rogers in Canada) actually works perfectly fine. I can boot into it no problem. But now I'm stuck with this odd issue inside of HBOOT and I don't know what to do to make it work. I found a bit of info suggesting that I could have a developer version of the phone if I'm getting that message following a recovery install. Keep in mind though this wasn't shipped to me, I got it from a retail store. Very odd.
Any insight regarding this would be greatly appreciated. I'm not bricked at the moment so that's nice, but I definitely would like to figure this out.
Thank you!
Can I ask you where did you get this phone from ?
I have gotten these messages alot when i had bricked my phone a while ago ...
Security warning always occured in HBoot when my battery was below 30%
Legal notice showed up when i tried booting custom Rom with a stock Recovery.
As long as it is relocked, try using a matching RUU. Make sure Battery is charged as much as possible. Also see Thread "Disaster Recovery" here in the forums

Evita is the code name for HTC One XL.
Really eh? I got it from Best Buy Mobile but it's a Rogers device. Advertised as the One X but yeah on GSM Arena it actually is the One XL. I'm guessing it's more or less exactly the same as the One X...for custom ROMs and what not...hopefully. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong!
In any case, I'm going to try to flash a shipped RUU (if I can download it from filefactory, error messages so far) then try to flashboot CWM again and see how that goes.

Because your device is an Htc One X not an Htc One XL. Only One XL will show tampered flag.

I too have the same problem with my HTC One X from Rogers (or I thought it was HTC One X, from what I read here it could be an XL!).
Would you please step through the process you used to get CWM installed. I have TWRP presently installed.
Thanks

This is a test device ? ?

After running stock ruu's, and gone through the phone setup, on the last "HTC page" there is a paragraph at the bottom, in red, that says "bla bla bla this is a test device".
What's that all about ?
There's 2 M8's in the house and both are legit UK handsets and both have red text on set up.
Cheers
Edit.... Think I found the answer. Is it due to the fact that both handsets are s-off ?

No. It is because you have an unlocked bootloader.
But since you are S-Off, you can get rid of it with a modified hboot.
Go to this thread to find out how.

It's not the red text on the splash screen I'm meaning. It's the red text on last page, I think, when going through the set up of the phone after its booted.
I don't have red text on splash screen when running stock, I only get that after flashing a custom recovery.
It is because your s-off. Being s-off trips a flag in your OS. When going through the testing phase before these phones get shipped to the public they are s-off and Tell HTC is enabled to help with errors and crashes. If you were to go back to s-on Tell HTC would be able to toggle again and the red text on the last part of setup would disappear. It's nothing to worry about.

Help Urgent: Phone keep looping on start up screen after official update

HI
As title said, I accepted the official update from HTC and now my phone won't start.

I did try wipe cache partition multiple times.

I believe is the 5.1 update
Thank you very much
You did leave it long enough to update?
It took over an hour to update mine and that's not including downloading.
If you power cycled your phone thinking it was stuck you probably borked the update process.
If your device is carrier locked then you'll have to wait for the official ruu.
If you have a wwe (World Wide English) then you can use the 5.1 ruu.
Otherwise you'll have to bite the bullet and reset it, losing all data.
I wish I stole my HTC M9. It's a pile of ****.

We need more information than this to help. What exactly did you do, and what happened when you accepted the ota? By "won't start" what do you mean? A bootloop or is it completely dead?
From your info, it appears the ota never took, as you're still on 1.32 firmware.
To my knowledge, there are no ruus of any sort for Telus. You may need to unlock, install custom recovery, and then flash a backup to get back up.

I can still go into the bootloader, download mode and recovery mode, but pretty much it. In recovery mode, it can't even open the files in the internal memory. I also did a factory reset/wipe, It didn't work.

I also did some digging. I find a website under HTCDEV. I can't post outside link yet. But is it useful in my situation?
I don't really want to root my phone unless i have no other choices.
I have root my previous phones before, but it is more for trying different rom instead of rescuing the phone.

As far as I can see you have two choices:
Option 1 is trying to get the correct RUU for your firmware. I posted a source earlier but it's not for free. Some other users here on xda already have an account for that website so maybe one of them is kind enough to help you out. Nevertheless flashing a RUU will wipe everything on your phone so all your data you didn't backup before all this hassle started is lost.
Option 2 is trying to unlock your bootloader via HTCDdev which will erase everything on your phone, too. After that you are able to flash the custom recovery TWRP. If you are able to find someone else's backup for the firmware version you have you are able to get back to a working stock system, too. But I'm not sure whether an unlock is possible without a booting system because I never faced that situation.

Can you post what's in your Download mode screen (except imei and s/n)? You say the update completed, but the OP lists a 5.0 firmware version. This matters for whether you can unlock and root.
It's possible your phone can't be fixed in its current state and will have to be replaced. This is because of security features that have been added to 5.1, if you indeed got that update.

Okay, that's good. It means the 5.1 update did not take, which means you can still unlock via htcdev if you choose, or that RUU linked above ought to clear things up.
Hey thank you for everyone helps. Since my phone still under warranty, i have decided to send my phone back to HTC. Once again, thank you for everyone who read my post and help me.
I'm quite sure the device restarts a few times after the update. I remember a black htc screen then a couple of reboots (my arse was twitching like a rabbit's nose) then after a short while it booted into the homescreen.
I'd leave it running and connected to the internet overnight and see if it resolves itself. If not then send it to HTC.

HTC himaulatt?

I recently bought an HTC One (M9) 32Gb Factory Unlocked on eBay but when i put the phone in downlode mode i saw in description: htc himaulatt, i suppose is att carrier and it has bootloader locked, s-off and cid:11111111. Also the firmware is 3.35.617.12. This is the Developer Edition? Can i flash another Sense rom like ViperOne?
Any help please?
With supercid....you likely have an att variant phone that has been flashed with the latest OS....or I suppose it could have taken the latest OTA if the recovery and FW is stock...
Either way....you can flash viper....or any MM rom that supports the ATT network....
You are in pretty good shape for Modding....just remember to backup your device before doing anything to crazy...g

Hey, did you get any luck installing other roms? I have the same phone and it is "S-ON", I'd would give the rom that you have tried a try as well... let me know!
Hey guys,
I've got a m9 with the exact same condition, bootloader locked, s-off and cid:11111111, and firmware is 3.35.617.12. However, when i bought this off a seller online, he told me its brand new. (lied, by the looks of it)
I', not familiar with this whole flashing, ROM, SCID, s-off etc thing. But right now i've got a android security update, which werent allowed to proceed because it says i am not running official HTC software. Also my phone says its a test unit and is HTC's property (which i've read somewhere that says its due to the s-off thingy)
I only want my phone back to stock, and could update OTA.
Where do i start? i dont expect answers, but perhaps some guide as to which articles/threads to read? Its all quite confusing to me at the moment.
Cheers, CLee
Well, S-OFF basically means you can do what you want with your phone.
You can unlock your bootloader by typing "fastboot oem unlock" in your cmd.
Since your rom is x.x.617.x, you run the developer edition, that one is always himaulatt.
No lock, just dev edition.
I just got a HTC M9 and it also says himaulatt, but mine says S-ON, i can't find any information about this particular model.
