Antenna strength? - Note 7 Questions & Answers

Does anyone know if the antenna strength is better than the s7 Edge? I have the edge and the strength of the signal has noticibly gotten weaker than the note 5 I had before it.

Unless you're in Dubai or a reviewer happens to live in your apartment, there's really no way to tell unless you buy it to try it.

Yeah any one want to do a side by side with the about -> device info -> signal? How dot the db's compare?
(Please make sure they're on the same band / company)

No LTE for t-mobile gs3

I read that even when t-mobile jumps on the lte band wagon in 2013, that our gs3 phones will not be able to take advantage of the new speeds (what a drag). I'm not sure if this is really the case, but I posted the link to the article below.
http://www.galaxys3newsblog.com/t-mobiles-samsung-galaxy-s3-to-miss-lte-yet-another-dissappointment/
One thing you have to remember you always want to buy a phone that works right now for you not a phone that would work better in the future, I'm happy with hspa+ and by the time I get lte from tmobile I might have another phone anyways so I think I'm cool with that, it bee discuss in another topic too
Sent from my SGH-T999 using Tapatalk 2
This is true. I just thought that I would post this for those who didn't have the benefit of reading the other post. For those that don't change their phones often and intend on keeping the gs3 for some time, I thought that this was good information to help them make a well informed purchase. I hope this helped anyone that didn't know and wants to buy a gs3.
My HSPA+ speeds are consistanly faster than my friends Verizon LTE. Plus HSPA+ uses dramatically less battery. Heres my speeds in Detroit.

+1, I owned my T-989 for less then a year before buying my T-999. At this rate I'll buy a T-1000 when it comes out in 6-8 months from now.

Same here in San Diego. Verizon was fast out of the gate but they heavily over-subscribed their network and now they are lame. AT&T is the crazy fast at the moment but I expect them to be in the same boat as Verizon this time next year.

How the heck do people get such fast download speeds? i downloaded the speedtest app and I'm only pulling about 3-4 thousand kbps with 3 bars of 4G.

Practicly yes on stock 4g shows when you connected to umts(3g), hspa and hspa+(t mobile calls this 4g cause it could go up to 42mbps) but if you changed yours to stock look ( aosp) you will see your phone going at all of them and won't stay connected to one at all times, you might no notice because their 3g is not crazy slow where you live, I have good coverage specially where I live and work so I don't mind it

It does have LTE, just like the T-989 did, its just disabled by default. You can access this setting by opening the dialer and typing *#*#4636#*#*, and selecting radio type.

Help to connect to 4g lte

They just set up 4g in my city, but the second I get to my house, my door, the signal drops to one bar then switch's to 3g full bars.
Is there any way I can help this?

LTE building penetration is nothing compared to the "simpler" 3G signal penetration. What this means for you is that your issue won't be "fixed" until 4G becomes more widespread to compensate for weak signal penetration.
Thank you sir

A 4g glory hole lol? Dirty haha!
If you wanted 4g and don't mind missing calls you could go to dialer and enter *#*#4636#*#* and go to phone information then set preferred network to LTE only. Downside is you will not be able to place or receive calls until you return to the default network mode.

My brother upset with my S3

Thought I would share this real quick. So I live in a 4G LTE area and my brother lives two houses from me. My brother who has a iphone 5 comes over and says "man I wish Sprint had there 4G LTE network setup here". I look at him and start laughing, I tell him "bro I have full 4G LTE on my S3". Now he has been on Craigslist the past two days trying to trade his iPhone 5 for a S3.
Hahaha just found this very funny and had to share with fellow Android users. Btw not the first time I've heard of no 4G LTE on iphones while the Android phones are picking up the signal.

I didn't think the IPhone had a weak radio. I bet it's a setting he has that's disabled 4g. Especially if you've got full signal
Heh I noticed this too, although it tends to be in areas with less than perfect LTE reception, when we first noticed it, the speeds were drastic enough between LTE and 3g that numerous slanders against my friend's iPhone were made

Bars mean nothing. TW has double the amount of bars that AOSP has. What you need to check is dBm.
Hmm, wife has an iphone 5 and I have an s3 both on sprint. I'll try some informal tests to compare at our house. Voice does well on my phone but it sometimes hops between 3g and lte if wifi is off so will see how hers holds on to lte.

Before throwing the rom or phone to the fire based on bars of signal, I would go to settings and scroll down to 'about device' and look at signal strength, you might find it's no different, may have something to with coding in aosp vs tw, but in reality it's only visual.

Both my wife and I always had lots of bars. Ever since we bought LTE devices we now have 1-2 bars. Was your bars full with an LTE plan and device prior? If so then its faulty.
If you take the back cover off and flick the back area the signals get stronger? LOL Just like a gas guage on an old car.

Yes, I understand on GSM I have 4-5 bars on LTE 1-2 bars. One mostly though.
Heh you're not the only one. T-Mo LTE is pretty bad for me in the parts of LA/Riverside Counties that I frequent the most. Sometimes I get a good pocket of LTE signal where it's like 20/5, but even then it's very inconsistent and times out a lot. I'm a mobile gamer and (planned to) do a lot of downloading away from home, so an inconsistent connection is useless to me. I even time out downloading from Google Play. Pretty bad service IMO. I can only hope our area is flushed out more in the future.
I just changed my settings to GSM/WCDMA and went back to HSPA+. It's a lot slower, but at least it's consistent enough for gaming/streaming.
Is the T-Mo Note 2 an HSPA+ only device? Or was that LTE too?

Oppo n1 on AT&T

I'm on the AT&T network and I'm really thinking about getting this phone. I've done a lot of research and I love all of the features on this phone. The only thing that I can't find is if it's comparable on the at&t network.

I think the best that it supports is HSDPA, which isn't great. I keep getting an "H+" symbol, but I don't see great speeds. I know that AT&T isn't exactly the best around here, so it could be the network. I can run a few speed tests around the area and see what comes up.
I've had 2 different devices on at&t's H+ network. Right now I'm on straight talk with the note1.
I average about 3-5meg download, 1-3meg upload, unless the network is jammed up.

HSPA+ is more than fast enough. In fact, in many areas, AT&T's backhaul is so poor that LTE provides no speed advantage. (because, while the air interface is fast, there is insufficient bandwidth from the tower to the rest of the world. This is the case, for example, in Binghamton, NY currently.)
I've been using my N1 on AT&T for over a month - it's great!
How's call quality and reception. I live in the greater Seattle area, and sometimes calls will not go through even though they don't thru all the way to voice mail.

Its a 3G phone. So we are going to get at best HSPA+ speeds.
You two literally asked the exact same question, word for word. That's pretty strange.
Also, you should read other replies before asking something. Since you asked the exact same thing, you would have seen the answer to that question.

Which AT&T was calling "4G" for over a year.
If you watch the XDA review of the phone, he says 3G right away. And early in this post I asked about the data speeds too and it was pointed out that its a 3G phone.

More like 3.75G or so.
UMTS = 3G
HSDPA = 3.5G
HSPA+ = 3.75G
LTE = 3.9G (LTE doesn't actually meet the original requirements for 4G - only LTE Advanced does. Then the US carriers ruined it by calling HSPA+ "4G")
In the USA, LTE's main advantage is better latency for latency-sensitive applications. The bandwidth is useless given how ridiculously low our bandwidth caps are.
Either way I was thinking that the non LTE was going to be a deal breaker for me, but I dont use my data plan that much. Im mainly on wifi. So here soon I should be ordering my 32 GB version. Can someone upload some pictures please.
