WiFi strength, range, and throughput - Sony Xperia X Performance Real Life Review

Rate this thread to express how you think the Sony Xperia X Performance's Wifi performs. A higher rating indicates that it has excellent range, throughput, and signal strength. Like when you're taking a dump in the bedroom upstairs, do your videos have to buffer or do they come through without interruption?
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!

wifi in my device is worst than ever sony devices (xz, xz1, xz ultra, xz2, xz3c, xz3 not mention non z series)
wifi is connected but no internet (when internet OK - superslow)
and I have to mention about vibrating engine - it's very loud (like bad mounted)

WIFI not particularly good on mine either. Walls cause a problem when Z5 has no problem keeping strong signal

My z2 has 2bars and my Xp has 0bars ?

I concur XP worse then z5c. Finding I have to manually connect to my WiFi networks it won't auto connect most of the time which is even more annoying than the weaker WiFi connection which is also occurring.

I was hoping this would have been fixed by now, but it seems to still be a problem. I got my XP a few days ago and I'm having a lot of issues with the WiFi at work.
If I put my XP next to my Z3C on my desk, the Z3C has full signal and the XP struggles to even keep the connection alive. The signal indicator in the status bar hits rock bottom and apps lose connectivity. It also won't connect automatically when I get to work.
I installed all the available updates immediately after booting the phone, so I don't know if the problem was introduced in any of those. I'm on Nougat, build 39.2.A.0.442 now.
Maybe worth noting: When downloading the updates I put the phone in the same place it's having problems now, but it had no problems downloading them.
Has anyone found a fix for this? Factory reset? Send the phone back for service/replacement?
EDIT: Factory reset did not help for me at all. The signal strength seemed fine when I booted into safe mode, but it didn't stay that way after I did another factory reset after that.

Xperia X Performance is the worst WiFi ever in my life. Ever used Sony Arc, Samsung S3, Sony Z2.
Ever worse upgraded to Oreo. Lots of TCP re-transmissions, disconnections.
I don't even know what is the "Performance" for? Cost-down Performance?

Poor Wifi - 1.29.401.11

Since receiving the 1.29 builds (.11 this morning) I've noticed the One X's wifi performance to be seriously sub-par. My home Wifi AP (a Cisco WAP4410N) is in the next room to me and yet the Wifi indicator on the One X status bar shows only the dot (no bars) and Wifi Analyzer (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.farproc.wifi.analyzer&hl=en) shows a signal strength of about -90 dBm (very close to disconnecting). My Galaxy Nexus by comparison (placed beside the One X) shows between -50 dBm and -60 dBm... (my iPhone 4 never drops below two bars and seems to hold a strong signal wherever I go in the house).
Is this similar to others experience? Something's seriously at fault here, it's so bad I'm thinking of switching back to the Galaxy Nexus...
(Sorry for the poor quality of the photos below, taken quickly).

Same here - got 129.401.11 this morning and wifi indicator now seems 2 bars less than before the update. In fact wifi has now totally dropped off despite my netbook having 4 bars in the same place.
Is it possible to rollback out of this update as I was having no issues before the update?
I've had a hox from 3 since day one. The original 3 software had this bug, the updated 3 software had this bug and now I'm on the latest Arhd 6.0 wifi is slightly improved but still much worse than my wife's gnex my pc and our laptop.
Really hope HTC can fix this with software and soon

Try factory reset, AFTER BACKING UP STORAGE DATA, and all media in it.
It fixed for me.

Hi - does settings-privacy-"backup my settings" and "automatic restore" keep all my settings, including the general phone settings and app settings?
I've never done a factory reset on a HTC and don't want to root so Titanium backup isn't an option. Thanks.
I've had the same issue with mine since day 1 with no real improvement through ROM upgrades. I tried the same test with my Asus Transformer side by side with the One X and from about 5 meters from the router but still in direct view of it I got -50dbm on the TF and -90dbm on the HOX
I also get times when the the radio won't reconnect after losing signal requiring the Aircraft mode switch to reset the radio.
All very sub standard and now really wish I'd got an unbranded phone so I could get latest OTA's

Yes, tried that numerous times. Most of the times it was on Best Wifi, but didn't help.
Yes, I had best wi-fi on before and still have it enabled but it still seems to be a fair bit worse after this s/w upgrade.
I have the same problem last week after my 1.29 update, what i did was to switched my wifi router off and after a few seconds switched it on again, after i did that, i got a full bar again, hope this help.
The problem I'm seeing is that the wifi seems really erratic - it can show full bars or no bars with the phone in the same place and Wifi-Analyzer shows the signal to be weaker than I'd expect and compared to other devices in the same location.
All you have to do to make wifi better after update is factory reset works perfect

I'm doubtful. It seems it's hardware related.
Try squeezing the back top left of the phone and watch the wifi improve before your eyes.
A loose connection seems the most likely fault. It's send back time I'm afraid

Same here. Signal strength improves dramatically when gentle pressure is applied on the top left then drops away completely when released before returning to a weak signal state. Not something that a software update will resolve. Disappointed to have to return this otherwise flawless phone.

WiFi Signal level

If I don't miss remember upon upgrade to JB on my yakyu device, my GN experiences a very low signal from any wifi APs, testing with different android devices from friends, my GN measures the weakest wifi signal of them all, is this a problem with the device itself, had anyone experience anything similar?
Thanks in advance
For me, the measured signal _seems_ to be worse then on ICS (it shows less bars). Would need to check with WiFi Analyzer or similiar but TBH, I didn't notice connectivity problems compared to ICS.
I do here, and the problem as I see it is not the wifi signal/power itself is the quality/sensitivity on the GN receiver, since other devices measures at least one or two bars where mine don't.
And to this date, I keep noticing more and more problems in the JB GN, shouldn't the so-called Google flagship device have more updates/corrections/support from google itself? I'm starting to regret having bought this device.

Not everyone has this issue. My WiFi signal strength, connection quality, connection stability, and speeds all remained the same on 4.1.1.

Is something wrong with my WiFi?

The other day me and two of my friends were conducting a lil experiment to see which phone had the best wifi download speed using the speedtest.net app, one has the iphone 5 and the other a year old sony xperia phone. We all connected on the same router and when conducting the test they ended up having speeds of 32mbps!! While my phone only managed a measly 15mbps..feeling slighly embarrassed after bragging to them about how my phone is so much better then theirs we did the test again just to make sure it wasnt a fluke thing but nope we got the same results. My question is..is something wrong with my wifi..i mean ive never had a situation where its disconnected but ive noticed that the wifi icon does fluctuate from having full bars to no bars quite alot even if im right next to the router but i havent noticed the performance drop..im just baffled as to how such a amazing phone got beaten by the iphone and a phone thats older then mine with download speeds.

It looks like you have the dreaded Wifi problem. The fluctuation sounds all too familiar to me. Read the topic about this problem in the General section.
Don't worry man.
Forget the wifi issues cause by hardware, it is very rarely and is is very unlucky cases (other comes from user's mind)
For your matter, I have to face the same situation and in my case, I found that the issues comes from channel of the router. Normally, wifi router has many channel could be set with different frequency:
1- 2412 GHz
2- 2417
3- 2422
4- 2427
....
11- 2462
12 - 2467
13 - 2472
14 - 2477 GHz
The HOX work best in Wifi mode G / Channel 14 as I could easily got 54Mb/s. You could try again with other setup of router. Install wifi analyzer app from market and it could help you to find best channel for your HOX.
(remember to update your phone with latest ship rom).

Unlocked bootloader delay, wifi reception and Nougat

My Pixel C is due to be delivered in the next couple of hours and I have a few questions for you seasoned owners:
Is it worth unlocking the bootloader given the 30 second delay and any problems this might cause getting Nougat?
Just how bad is wifi for you now? (This could be a major issue for me as I use my Nexus 10 in my garden at the absolute limit of coverage.)
And does the latest (final) developer preview make for a decent daily driver?
Thanks in advance.

DP5 is very stable and worth the change. I have not unlocked my bootloader due to the delay.
The WiFi is bad. Really bad in my opinion
The bootloader delay is annoying if you restart your tablet a lot, but why should you do? So if you are not shutting down your device at night or every time you dont need it, it should be fine.
The 30-second delay is trivial (to me.) I think it's an odd and intrusive choice, but it's never been a big deal.
I've never had any trouble with the wifi, although it sounds like the mileage varies. I don't usually care how many bars there are as long as it's not dropping off.
So far, I'm very impressed. I've tested the WiFi and, although the speed drops off, the range is really good, probably better than my Nexus 10.
I'm not going to unlock the bootloader, so far I see no reason to.
Nougat is great, zero issues.
2 apps won't work and one screams on loading, but that's about par when moving between devices.
It looks and feels like a really premium device, in real terms it costs the same as my Nexus 10 did at the time but this comes with a keyboard!
I just got my replacement and the latest build of Nougat is awesome, I've been using it as my DD without issue. I can't attest to the wifi because my apartment is small and my neighborhood is crowded.
My main problem is transferring files and getting ADB to recognise the device - I've had both working and now neither is, which is really puzzling and frustrating!
WiFi is bad on mine, on the latest N preview. It picks up my WiFi, but the speed drops from 36mb to anywhere between 2 and 10
This is with the router in the next room

The wifi has been driving me crazy, frequent drop outs, massive speed drops over distance - I'm returning it; which is really frustrating as everything else about it feels so premium, but to release a device they know is so badly flawed and still charge so much for it?!

If you're using Windows, check device manager and make sure the drivers are installed.
if you're thrilled about the device (like i do) file an RMA with google and they'll send you a refurb but updated Pixel C (serial# should start with 620xxx). I assumed that those with horrific wifi or screen problem probably has one with a serial number beginning with 5A or 5B. Check this thread to see if the one you have is cursed: http://forum.xda-developers.com/pixel-c/general/mapping-problems-to-serial-t3274660
Got my replacement yesterday and so far wifi has significantly improved. When im in the backyard, i noticed that wifi would disconnect about every 10-15min but with the new serial#620, wifi strength is about the same but I have not experience any disconnect around the same place. Hopefully the screen issue hold up on this one as well...
As for bootloader, I have a rooted phone with unlocked bootloader as my main so I'd keep the Pixel C completely stock. I havent found a need to do anything to it yet.
I've had my pixel c since it was released. Don't have any issue with it on wifi... this includes using it throughout a 2500 sqft house that is old construction (lots of natural signal blockers) and in back or front yard. It works about as well as an iPad does in the same environment, perhaps a little slower max speed at the more distant range, but no drop-outs and fast enough to handle HD streaming at the same distances.
For an android tablet I'd still consider it the best that is out there, although the nvidia shield is a cheaper option.
My serial number is 5A22000040. I bought mine in May and have not experienced any of the problems I read here. No screen tints or light leaks. My WiFi has never been an issue. I have run SpeedTest several times and the Pixel does the same as other WiFi devices I have.
I do get a screen blink out every now and again (more than a flicker) but I only seem to notice it when playing Spider Solitaire so I think it is application dependent. Otherwise, this tablet is smoking.
And for a bonus, I through my tablet into my Harley saddlebag (inside a Glock hand bag) and have ridden for days, using the tablet for nightly movie entertainment. I would say I stress it pretty well.
Sent from my Pixel C using XDA-Developers mobile app
I sent mine back as the wifi issues made it too annoying to use, the money was refunded as soon as UPS collected the packages - suggesting Google knew my machine was a dodgy one?

Op3T Wifi Connection Problem

hei everyoone.
is there anyone here got some problem with wifi? my wifi router is on my living room, it using 2.4ghz wideband. my Op3t wifi connection work properly if i use it on my living room, but not if i'm using it in my room. my room is connected to the living room and i dont think distance is the problem, because my old moto X and xiaomi mi4c could properly connected to the wifi in my room.
does op3t is weaker on getting wifi signal compare to my older device?? or i got some problem with the ROM? or there is something else?? please someone help me to get rid of this problem.
i'm using stock 4.1.7 with bluspark kernel atm. i've already tried a couple custom ROM base on OOS, but have not tried aosp or lineageos base ROM yet.
i'll post some log if it necessary.
It does seem to have a weaker antenna. I noticed it right away after coming to it from the nexus 6 and other devices. I know my wifi range really well. I can tell you with in inches of where you will lose connection to my router, the 1+3 loses it at least 3 feet sooner then any device I have come across. It also will interfere with BT if you are on the outer edge of wifi range.
