Hi guys!
I'm having some issues with the wi fi of my N5X.
The signal is always good and the icon on the notification bar is full.
But when I try to download something (for example from the Play Store) the speed is sometimes around 30/50 Kbps and sometimes 3 Mbps
With the 4G is going well...
I also tried to test with the speedtest app (screenshot attached); as u can see in the graphic he started with a lower speed then the last seconds.
I attach the same test done by an iPhone 6.

If we compare the 2 results:
Ping
N5X: 458ms / iPhone: 41ms
Dowload
N5X started with low speed until he reached 26,58 Mbps. / iPhone: "flat" graphic at 28,67 Mbps.
Upload
N5X stayed at 0 Mbps until the last one second. / iPhone: not a perfect graphic but he reached 3,13 Mbps.
So: sorry for this boring thread but i need some suggestions.. What can I try?
I'm running the ROM PureNexus (1/12 Build) with the ElementalX Kernel (v0.08).

I needed to update my router when I bought this phone. That would be my first suggestion.

Yeah, that's what i meant.
Your graphic is flat, so your wifi performance are in line during all the test...
Maybe I'll try with an hard reset...

It might be the ROM you are using. It could even well be a faulty radio.

Yes, i'll try another one soon.
What do u mean with the radio? Have I got to flash a new radio?
Inviato dal mio Nexus 5X utilizzando Tapatalk
The radio could be going bad you could try and flash a different radio. Try going back to stock everything and then checking to see if the results are the same. If they are I would lean towards the radio going bad.

I have the same problem here. It take hours to update or install applications from the playstore in wifi. I don't have any problems with nexus 7 2013 and nexus 4...
That + the yellow screen, I wonder if I made a good choice buying this device...

Same problem here. Upload is tragic and WiFi connection is unstable.
On the other devices without problem.
I run stock rom.
Didn't anybody try if 6.0.1 solved that problem?
Any phone can have issues with any WiFi network and you need to troubleshoot. Google will not release an update that fixes your router's compatibility issues.
"WiFi works on all your other devices" only tells us that your WiFi is enabled and working. That's a great starting point, but that's all it is.
Each device is unique. Each WiFi network is unique. Unique devices can have issues with unique WiFi networks.
I'd suggest doing some searches on general WiFi issues (don't even specify 5x in the search) and troubleshoot steps to resolve them. Some basics to get you started:
- Reboot the router.
- Update the router firmware.
- Disable IPV6 on the router
- Forget the device's WiFi networks and readd them
- Set the device to use either 2.4Ghz or 5Ghz instead of Automatic
- Etc.

All thoses things, I speak for all, we already did them. It's the basic first things to try.
Thanks to refresh our memory anyway!
Personnaly, I asked for a exchange of the device, I don't want to (don't have to) search some fix, flash or tips on a 2 days fresh new device! There is clearly a bug here, we all got the same problem on a stable wifi router. So problem is in the phone.

I would be shocked if everyone had tried even those basic steps. People assume it's a unique issue with their device but this is actually a common issue with any device and various home networks. It's not the phone manufacturer's job to ensure compatibility with every router ever made and there are thousands (millions?) of them.
Check any device in any device forum and you will find people with similar WiFi issues. You just got unlucky this time.
"Stable WiFi router" wouldn't have issues with your Nexus 5x. Unless you think your Nexus 5x is defective then by all means return it. Or perhaps you think every Nexus 5x has WiFi issues?
BTW this was the very first reply in this thread and he was right on the money:

FYI, things doesn't work in the world like the USA.
Here in France we don't buy router, they are given free with our plan and are multi function: unlimited TV, Internet, phone, etc...
Updates are automatically send by the providers. I checked mine and it's up to date. And I'm downloading at 10ko/s on the nexus 5x.
It's been more than 30 minutes it's trying to get the 6.0.1 update (and it's not finished, it's at 20%...)
Yesterday I noticed for a single file, download started at 400ko/s to fall at 10ko/s, then up again to 200, down to 15, etc....really unusable. 15 minutes later, I had to cancel (little 30mo file) I got bored, so i downloaded it on the nexus 4 in 5 seconds and transfer it to the 5x. What a mess.

Hi Guys!
As i said in my first post i still have unstable wi fi performance.
What i noticed is that the download problems are nothing in front of the upload problems.
Usually my device download like a diesel car (?): it starts at 20Kbps for 1min... Then he get better with 100/200 and sometimes 500Kbps.
But the upload!!! It starts at 100Kbps until he goes at 0Kbps for a lot of time!
For who asked if 6.0.1 solved this: nope.
I thought the same thing but now I'm running that build. Same issues.
I still don't understand if it's an hardware problem or "just" a bug.

Hi Charkatak, thanks for your reply.
Yes of course:
Personally I've tried with 5 different wi-fi hot spot / routers: My home / Office / My girlfriend house ecc... In all of my tests i also used my iPhone which always gave me perfect performance.
But with the N5X I had always the same results: some times the download is a bit better... But the upload during the speed test starts from 1/2Mbps for the firsts 2 seconds and then it go at 0Mbps.
This thing is making me crazy! But I prefer to find a solution instead contact google and staying without smartphone for weeks..

FYI - I am at work now and did speed test: Down 136 Mbps & Up 101.44, but that is just a quick test.
If that is the case, then there could be something...I doubt it is the phone, but most likely it is the OS.
I have noticed couple of times when I download something, game for example:
1) I stay on the same screen while downloading and making sure that screen doesn't sleep, then download is fast.
2) Other times, I would just press "back" button, to go to home screen or do something else, then in rare cases, the download would seem slow and when I go back to the download progress, it really is slow.
You can try step 1 and see what happens. Looks like when phone is downloading something and we leave the screen, then the process is in the background, that is probably when OS applies some battery-saving technology.

Thanks again Charkatak.
Yes I noticed the same on my Android phones. Not only on this 5X, but also in the previous devices I had.
But that isn't the point, cuz in all of my tests my screen was always on, and the only app opened was the speed test app (or the play store).
And the bad thing is that I never had those bad performances on my speed tests with the other phones (iPhone or Android)...
That's why I'm so disappointed about this WiFi module...

Yes. Download from chrome it's "random".
Sometimes it goes at 100/300kbps (so slow anyway) and sometimes 40/50kbps....
One ore two times is happened to download from chrome at 1/2 Mbps..
That's why I'm confused: i can't understand if it's rly a SW problem or maybe it's an HW issue..

I don't have issues to connect with my router, though nearly every day there is a moment where websites don't load at all. Then I need to turn wifi off and turn wifi on again and then it works. Very annoying.
Is my Nexus defective?
I have just noticed that I have posted in the wrong forum, sorry
I dont have any issues. Are you stock? Have you tried other kernels / roms ? Have you tried to isolate the problem to the 2.4 or 5 GHz band?
Stock Android 7.0, there is no option to choose the band in Android 7, but I have already had this issue with Android 6.
Mine also has wifi issues. Sporadically disconnects and takes ~30 seconds to reconnect. Makes webpages, snapchat, and other apps not load all the time. Like you said, turning off and on wifi seems to fix it for a few.
I've tried forgetting the network, reconfiguring my router (it does this on other networks too), reflashing stock. I had this problem before I sent my phone in for the bootloop issue, and they sent it back fixed and it still does this. Thought maybe it was adblocking having issues, so didn't install that this time. Still does this. It's not TERRIBLE since it's connected maybe 70% of the time but it still is inconvenient

To isolate the bands you would have to disable the bands on the router.
The only issue i have with my new phone is the WI-FI connection.
When I'm away about 6-7 meters from my home router, i have no connection, and then back online again, and so one.
Do you have the same issue, guys ?
I have a pretty high internet speed, at home ( 120 Mbit/s )
Everything is now at default, but the problem is still there.
Bluetooth is off, airplane mode, etc
Any advices are welcome, thank you

The last patch ( February ) didn't fix my issue.

Could it be the router, the culprit ??

My wifi constantly drops wifi then immediately reconnects. February update did not fix, as reported by others on this thread.

Could that be a phone hardware ( network card / motherboard ) issue ??

I think it's a hardware issue. Your problem hasn't been resolved with 2 different baseband versions, and I think you've done a factor reset if not mistaken. 6-7 meters is pitiful. I can go 30-40 feet away from my router without a signal drop. I would talk to Google about an RMA. Somethings just not right. Especially if your previous device had no difficulties with it.
Yes, with the Note 4 i didn't have this issue
I'll try to RMA, and when i get another one, i'll report back, thank you

Update: I was poking around wifi settings and decided to choose the RESET NETWORK option.
Went ahead and resetted my network on my pixel, and it now seems 5ghz is stabling out.. Looking good for the past two hours.
Anyone else want to try and see if this is better for them as well?
Hi guys.
I bought 2 piece of a2 lite for my parents when they came abroad to visit me.
When they went back my mom was complaining about not being able to send any photo or voice message through WhatsApp.
I tried to troubleshoot the issue and came to the conclusion that both devices had 0kbps upload speed at home.
They don't have this issue outside. The problem is that laptop, tablet and other devices at home are all fine it's just these 2 a2 lites with this problem.
We can't prove that is a router fault to the provider as they sent their technician to check and on his devices things were fine too.
I was wondering if anyone experienced something like this before? Or has any idea on what could cause this odd incompatibility?
- All the speed test websites report 0kbps on the mi a2s.
- my parents are not able to send or upload file through any app.
Update system and then factory reset

systems are updated both, I'm trying to avoid factory reset cause it'll be troublesome for me to troubleshoot it.
But anyway I don't see much chance that a factory reset be effective in this case as the problem is happening to 2 unit.

What frequency are the phones using for WLAN 2.4 or 5GHz? 5GHz should be prefered, because of known Android 9 problems with BT/GPS while using 2.4GHz. What is the signal strength? Did you try to remove the WLAN-connections inside the phones settings and to establish them again? You could try to change the used WLAN channel inside the router, personally I prefer not to use auto-channel-mode.
You might try to disable "Mobile Data always active" inside the developer-options. Sounds stupid, but I had some trouble while it was activated aswell.
Unfortunately the router is 2.4ghz, I tried changing the channel and no luck. They've also tried to remove the connection and reconnect again but nothing happened.
After taking the update my phone rebooted and a screen came up saying my OS was corrupted. I hit "try again" and the phone rebooted. The update broke my wifi connection... First it dropped out every 10 seconds. After I reset my router it got better but still drops out a few times an hour. I am unable to fix it. Wish I could go back to android 9 without resetting the phone.

Well resetting my pixel 2xl means days of work so that is my last option. I had no problems with 9.
Here is one of my 9 screens. Every time I upload or download anything, including this room, my wifi drops in and out.
After playing with this all day I've determined that the wifi sensor itself has weakened. Some people are reporting the sensors in the phone do not work after the update.

I have actually downgraded to 9 until wifi problems get solved with a fix or something. After updating to 10, wifi kept disconecting from time to time.

@EeZeEpEe
I already did a factory reset. In fact, the problems with wifi begins as soon as, after factory resetting, you try to configure your "new" phone trying to connect to wifi. It does connect but saying "connected with no internet access".
I took some screenshots and sent them to Google support and they offered me to replace the phone.
What I have done so far is to downgrade to Pie. The wifi problems have disappeared, so it is clearly a software problem. Many others have reported exactly the same in some forums.
I will wait until Google comes with a fix for this.

Nobody here with wifi problems after Android 10 update?
Here goes a possible (and temporary) solution, until Google solves this problem.
After many tests, I have come to a conclusion: Android 10 on Pixel 2 XL (at least on mine) has made the phone have a really poor coverage for the 5Ghz wifi band. When connected to that band, as soon as I get a little bit far from the router, I receive the "Connected with no internet" and after a while my phone disconnects and inmediately tries to connect again in an endless loop.
The good news is that I've been able to get a stable connection... but only on the 2,4Ghz. For this, I've had to make some changes both in the router and in the phone:
- In my router (O2/Telefonica in Spain, Mitrastar router) on the 5Ghz band configuration I had to remove the Guest/Virtual Access Point, which was pointing to the 2,4Ghz band. I suppose other routers will have a similar configuration.
- In my phone I made sure that I connected only to the 2,4Ghz band (you should see two wifi networks, one with PLUS or something like that and one without the PLUS: this is the one you have to select).
- Once connected, make sure you select "use device MAC" instead of "use arbitrary MAC" under connection configuration. The second is default on Android 10 and can make some routers go crazy because they think you are a hacker or something and so they block your connection.
After that, you should have an absolutely stable connection as you used to on Android 9 Pie, only that you are using the 2,4Ghz and not your fast 5Ghz connection. Obviosly this is a temporary solution until Google solves this. But at the moment I don't really need that extra speed on my phone, so I can live with that.
What is abolutely clear is that this an Android 10 bug and it only happens with certain Pixel phones like Pixel 2 XL. Mi wife's 3a XL has no problem at all after the update.
Hope this helps.
I have actually noticed the same exact issues going on with my Pixel 2 XL on Android 10. IHow do I change so that using my device's MAC address is the default option?
I have actually noticed this issues going on with my Pixel 2 XL on Android 10. In android 9 wifi connectivity was really really good. i have been using this phone since the launch without any issue but recently after updating to android 10 i have seen that the wifi connection is really really poor. Sometimes even disconnect automatically & sometime while connected to the wifi it shows no internet connection. I guess this is a software problem!!! I hope google fix this ..
Only on the 5Gz band. 2,4Ghz band remains stable. Just make sure you connect to that band.

You can try one more thing. On the 5Ghz configuration of your router, try to change the channel setting to a fixed channel instead of the predetermined Auto (I have set mine to 100(DFS)) and connect again from your Pixel. It will probably say "Connected, no internet" for a while, but just wait for a minute till it gets connected to the Internet and see if it stays stable
Just so you don't feel alone. I also started have wifi issues immediately after upgrading to Android 10
I've been having the same wifi problem that others have mentioned since the Android 10 update. However, it is also affecting my cellular and data signals, albeit to a lesser degree. Google tech support had me do diagnostics (rebooting in safe mode) and determined that I do indeed have a problem. However they want me to go through Verizon to try and get a replacement phone. They said if Verizon won't replace it, then they will. I really don't want to trade in my practically new phone on a refurbished model, so I'm going to live with this for a while longer and see if Google will release a new update to fix this bug.
I just got off the phone with Google Fi support about my Pixel 2XL and its' wifi issues are the same. I downloaded 10 like the first or second day it was available and began having issues with wifi immediately. Pictures on websites would not load and the pages load ten times slower. They recommended to send feedback and the steps I have taken to attempt a resolution but, I still have the same problem. I did a factory reset and still no fix for it. They first wanted to possibly send me a new replacement but, I was adamant that it was the software and not hardware since the wifi was perfect right before I updated to Android 10. Feedback will be sent so they can provide it in there November Security Update.(crossing fingers)
Totally concur with this thread, started as soon as I updated to A10B5. 5G connects, shows no bars, and "no internet connection". Using my old Nexus 6 at the same spot, 2 or 3 bars, internet connection right away. Just wondering if anyone that is unlocked has tried flashing the last 'Pie" radio file and results?
I too have connectivity issues on a pixel 2 XL even after a factory reset. I'm using a dual band AT&T Gateway or a Asus dual band router. I haven't tried turning off the same named 5 gigahertz band to see if it makes a difference, after reading here.
I havent had any issues with Wifi that i know of. But im having charging issues and sound issues
I'm having a similar issue with the normal Pixel 2 and using Google WiFi mesh system.
My pixel 2 refuses to connect to the 5Ghz network at my place whereas at my parents place (also using Google WiFi) it connects flawlessly to the 5Ghz one.
My pixel 3 XL is also connecting without any problems.
I used the app WiFi analyzer on my pixel 3XL and noticed that my Google WiFi is using the 5126 frequency.
If I use the same app on my pixel 2 it isn't even going that far.
At my parents place the frequency used is way lower.
Around 5000'ish
I'm having the same issues with WiFi. I finally disabled the 5 GHz signal from my router so I'm now only using the 2.4 GHz signal. This made my WiFi so much better at home. There is a lengthy thread about this issue in the Pixel Support forums, but it doesn't seem like anyone from Google has stopped by there to assist or gather info.
