Xiaomi Mi Band Review - Device Reviews and Information

Xiaomi Mi Band
USD $24.99
Overall 9/10 :
The Xiaomi Mi Band is a fitness band that is comparable to the Fitbit Flex. The band is made by the popular Chinese company Xiaomi renowned for making affordable good quality tech and the Mi Band is no exception, It is comfortable to wear and I often forget that I am wearing it. The band is available from various sources across the internet but I chose Dx.com as they frequently have them on sale ($14 at the time of writing this) and they ship internationally free. The band is of exceptional quality the only area where it is lacking is the tracker sometimes pops out of Band when doing something that required me to more my wrists a lot (Sailing). The Band officially supports IOS and Android with the Mi fit app but there is a more locked down 3rd party app available for the windows phone.
The Band is full of features for such a low price point, as well as being your standard pedometer it track your sleep, Vibrate for alarms and can vibrate and light up when you are getting a call. A massive strong point for the band as the battery life, They say that it can go 30 days on a charge but I charged it up for an hour and a half when I brought it (32 days ago) and it’s still going with 40% remaining. Another good point of the band is that it automatically detects when you are sleeping and starts counting unlike the fitbit where the sleep tracking has to be imported manually. A useless of the band is the leds on the top, They are white only as opposed to the rgb on the previous model and don't turn on unless there is a notification and it vibrates, it would become a lot more useful if you could press the top down and get a rough idea of how many steps you have taken towards your goal as opposed to just lighting up whenever it feels like it.
Pros:
Great Battery life
Silent Alarms (Through Vibration)
Accurate sleep and step tracking (Tested with a Microsoft smart band 2, with the two bands off each other by a difference of 12 steps)
You Can get Notifications from most apps
Came with a replacement band
Cons:
Can only get notifications from 5 apps at a time and you have to have your Bluetooth on for this to happen draining phone's battery life
Device sometimes pops out of the band
Only white LEDS

[WANNA BUY] GPS tracking question?!

Hello boys and girls
I would like to buy this smartwatch, but I am on half way between Moto 360 and SW3.
This thing can decide, so I have really important question:
as I am playing soccer/football a lot (outside) I would like to track my distance and top/average speed and things like that. Is that possible with this piece of tech?
Thanks
Yes the SW3 will let you track your distance, tune, etc since the watch has built in GPS. The measurements you record would likely be determined by the app you use.
One caveat is the potential GPS errors people have gotten (including myself) once they start to sweat. There's something about moisture on the back of the watch that can cause the GPS to go haywire. I have alleviated the problem by wearing the watch over a wrist sweatband while running. Check out the ghostracer app thread in original Android development under this SW3 list of forums. The app is great and there's a lot of discussion on the sweat/GPS problem.

Thanks for replay, I don't sweat that much, only problem about that GPS is accuracy. When I am playing/running I make short fast runs 10-20 meters. If you have watch if there is chance check GPS location accuracy please. Also I am concern about refresh time of GPS location, because that's key factor to get accurate speed in "real-time".
Maybe I will try tracking with with Ghostracer and my Nexus to see how that looks like.
edit:
I find app called "Wear GPS Status" that can get data about GPS accuracy. Please check that for me
I've heard of the wear gps app but have never used it. As far as accuracy goes, in my few runs I've had with it, I'd say the watch is as accurate as my Nexus 6. Yesterday I had a 4 mile run. I intentionally ran 2 miles and turned around and took the same course 2 miles back. The distance and map tracking were both almost identical. This route had quite a bit of heavy tree coverage and I didn't lose gps. I haven't yet tested it in heavy cloud coverage.
Sent from my Nexus 6 using XDA Free mobile app
I would add, that AFAIK, the moto360 does not have built in gps.
I was in a similar position as you between moto 360 and Sony SW3 - I've had the SW3 for 3 days and I've gone for 2 jogs with it ( around 4.5 km each). I'm using Endomondo for tracking and Google Play Music for tunes while I jog (with a Blueant Ribbon bt for my headphones). So far I love it! The GPS tracking is really good so far - I have to turn on Endomondo on the watch for about 2 minutes to get a good GPS signal and then I start my music and GPS tracking and start jogging.
It uses about 15% battery during my jog. Also, if you do decide to buy the SW3 and think you'll eventually want the metal band (I do!!) then I would suggest getting the metal band version of the SW3 and then buying the silicon strap extra. The reason being that it's almost impossible to buy just the metal band afterwards...
I can update you with my experience after a week or so if you like.
Thanks for all info. I would like to see accuracy of GPS. I test GPS tracking on my Nexus 5 and it's impossible. Accuracy is 15 meters... It's really bad. Everything above 2 meters is bad.
Many apps change the settings on gps to be less accurate in order to save battery power. Backcountry navigator allows you to adjust the sensitivity and the refresh rate, but as of now, it does not run standalone on the watch. I have not tried ghostracer, but it may allow that too.
Ghostracer will run standalone on the watch or from the phone. It does allow setting the recording interval for time and distance. Time allows for 1 second up to a minute. (app recommends 2 seconds as default) . Distance allows intervals of 1 meter up to 100 meters (10 meters is the Rev recommend default) .
I've never changed the default recommendations and have had good results for GPS accuracy on Watch standalone mode.

Veryfit ID115 HR

Hello,
I consider to buy a smart wristband mainly to measure my heart beat while I'm in gym which includes workout and cardio. I want it to check the beat like every 5 minutes. I'm not sure if the bands can be configured in this manner. It should measure the beat during run on a treadmill as well. I don't need %100 accuracy, %90-95 is okay.
I know all bands have their own app in the store however they may not serve some features which the device owner needs. My 2nd question is that if all bands are compatible with Google Fit or has open/global API to work with other apps or 3rd party custom app made by the owner. Or does it just measure the beat during day in some periods itself?
The 3rd thing is about battery life in years. How much the batteries lose their performance in each year approximately? I'm trying to understand how many days the band will work during years as they don't have replaceable battery.
I have two options in my mind at the moment; Xiaomi Mi Band 2 and Veryfit ID115 HR. I wear a regular watch, so I want the band to be thin as much as possible, thus wearing both won't be an issue during the day. There are many reviews for Mi Band however I couldn't find anything about Veryfit. I'm looking forward to hear your thoughts about Veryfit ID115 HR.
Thanks.

A couple of semi-hard questions about MMax3

Good morning
Xiaomi Mi Max 3 is certainly a top contender to be the best phone in terms of SOT.
I. Do You think MM3 SOT will be better than Redmi Note 4 (4100 mAh - small screen) and Moto E5 Plus (5000mAh also smaller screen)?
II) Did you experiance ant bugs in the sticj user interface?
III) What would you describe as pros and cons of this phone?
IV) What is your charging time when OFF from zero to 100% using box charger?
and finally do You think that's the best normal looking (not armored type) phone with the best SOT?
I. Perhaps worse, factoring in their specs (mostly screen)
II. I suppose you meant "stock". Really, no bugs except for some annoying things while using the Full Screen gestures:
when typing with a keyboard in one-handed mode it's very easy to hit the areas for the gestures, resulting in missed clicks around the edges of the screen (bottom for the home/recents gesture and sides for the back/switch app gesture).
also you might do it accidentally sometimes but I guess it's just something to get used to.
III. Pros:
Battery life is great for this phone factor
Has a headphone jack
Type-C
IR Blaster
Fast face unlock/fingerprint unlock
Comfortable yet still massive (depends on your hands)
Back camera array is pretty good and you can force camera2api with root.
Cons:
Speaker isn't the best OOB (you can tweak it with Viper though)
Front camera isn't very good
Before-mentioned gesture problems (you get used to it and learn to use it though)
Anti Rollback
IV. I can't really answer that because I don't use my device very hard so it ends up with like 60% at the end of the day if I used it more, also I don't like doing 0-100% charges as I'm anxious about wasting battery cycles, so hopefully someone can cover that instead of me.
Also the looks aren't really something that matters to me, but this phone looks really sleek to me so I guess that's a yes.
Hope I answered the things you asked ^^
1. Yes according to experience and gsmarena
2. Daily driver bug, Swiftkey keyboard resize, and perhaps a few untranslated chinese here and there. China rom 6gb 128gb model.
3. Pros: Roaming NETWORK BANDS, IR Blaster, headphone jack, batt, notchless screen, microsd
Cons: Speakers, rooting & roms, ymmv camera
4. Not sure rarely had to push it that far.. Keeping it above 60% at most times with slow charge to prolong battery longevity.
5. Energizers 16000mah phone will beat this phone.
Overall i picked this for the superior batt, near flagship roaming bands, notchless screen, plus jack and ir, all for a reasonable price.
CPU is just the right balance for lagfree use and batt efficiency. I don't game so GPU power was never what I was looking for.

You've earned your 3rd Thanks button acction!
Absolutely fantastic answer(s)!
Please help me out with these:
1. Very few people understand how important for the phone's ergonomics is the activation of letters, functions or gestures using the "holding hand". It can drive the user nuts.
You know your stuff very well bro.
2. Do You think the 1. will appear also when using 2 hands?
3. I never use use gestures so will the 1) issue be a problem for me?
4. Anti Rollback - what do you mean by this?
5. If your day ends with 60% why don't you let your next day end up in 20%?
6. Does 0%-100% charges waste battery? Some people say it's good for the battery cause it forms and calibrates it.
7. Are You worried about wasting battery cycles because of potential selling of the phone?

60% battery: this is best for your phone according to many experts online. The lower your battery level, the more strain there is on the battery to maintain a stable power output. Think of it like collecting water from a well; easy when its full, and harder and harder when it starts to run dry.

Hi,
1. I get 14h Sot over 6 days from 100 to 0. Normal use without gaming. Xiaomi.eu Rom
2. No bugs for me - runs great
3. Pros: big screen, great batterie, good camera with gcam, headphone jack, fullscreen gestures, price
Cons: None for me
4. In general I load the phone from 30 to 80 in 90mins with non quick charge charger. 0 to 100 with qc I think it is little over 2 hours.

1. 6 days of SOT mmmm that's pure melody. Can You specify more what do You do under your SOT
4. What do You prefer? charging the phone from 30% to 80% or from 0%-100%? Is it fifty-fifty? or do you have a preference for example to charge from zero to 100%? What is the ratio of charging from 30% to 80% to from 0% to 100%? Do You believe and perforem the method of prolonging battery life that is about not discharching the phone below a few tens of % (like 60%-20%)?
5. Is normal charger the one from the phone box? Does the fast charger has to be bouguht sepretly and does it require a special USB cable or normal?
6. Did MM3ax ever lagged or got frozen?
I don`t get 6days of sot. I have 14 hours sot within 6 days standby. Sot is mostly surfing, texting, mails, youtube, news . Some navigation and photos.
Yes, charging from 30 to 80 will hopefully exceed batterie life. It is about lithium ion batterie physics.
Qc charger comes with the phone. I use a different charger with a little lesser output. Mostly because this one fits german sockets other than the original chinese one.
No lags and freezes for me.

Question Battery life

Is it me or this phone is battery hungry?
1h of screen on time in 4 hours of light usage and lost 15%
It's gotten better with updates.............wasn't good when it was released.
I'm getting about 5 hours SOT per charge, including some gaming. That's ok by my standards.
There's another thread here about reducing battery loss. I keep my refresh at 120, but you can reduce it to 96 with little noticeable difference, apparently, but you need the app to do that (on that thread). Reducing it to 60 is noticeable, though. All I did was change the screen from vivid to natural, which appears to help a bit.
When new, it seems to take a while to 'settle' and work out actual battery levels. I fully charged, ran down to 1% (not a fan of going to zero), and fully charged again. I don't know if that's needed or helping, though.
Edit: app for refresh rate :

I get good battery life, and have since day one. Have you checked to see if any apps are draining your battery? I had to put WhatsApp to sleep because it was using unnecessary battery power, and I hardly ever use it so don't mind it not having push updates. I get 10 to 12 hours between charges with me on it most of the time.

Try to stop the unnecessary background running apps and make sure the mobile doesn't get heat this was useful for me to prevent the battery drain.

I got 5g in my local town, and we're out in Whoop Whoop Australia 500km from any other town. I turn it off at home, down to 3g actually, because I don't get 5g at home, and the constant switching from 3g to very faint 4g always causes problems. Being able to switch manually reduces battery drain considerably.

yep was going to say maybe some parts of big cities but its no where near as efficient as LTE is, the range on 5g is pathetic and not sure how it works in a grocery store as the signal cannot penetrate through walls like LTE. I think so many people (not people here I hope) think they actually have 5G simply because every phone company is allowed to put that up top. 5G should be pretty much 1tb per second of data from all the videos ive seen.

Unfortunately some companies (Verizon) would have you think mmWave is the only true 5G but it just isn't so. T-Mobile has multiple layers of 5G signal. Low frequency for coverage instead of speed(600Mhz and better than LTE building penetration since most is at 700Mhz), mid band 2.5ghz re-farmed from Sprint that offers the speeds I mention while also covering fairly large areas and commonly referred to as "UC" or Ultra Capacity, then mmWave which is just about useless unless you are at a sporting event or sitting outside within a couple hundred feet line of site of the cell and have no obstructions. Then you will get 1-2Gbps but only if stationary. 5G in general will increase network capacity more so than allow everyone to have crazy speeds, and I wish they hadn't tried to push the false message that 5G=1gbps+ to everyone. Someone better versed than I can go into more detail on this subject. Also, I'm 30 miles+ north of Atlanta in a suburb not in the actual city.
Does the benefits outweighs the battery life with 5g? Is there a use for such high download speed? Personally, I can't think of any app that I use often that need such high speed.
Hi, regarding the battery: need to change and perform next generation battery, need next level upgrade, the phone its good, but battery its joke.

What country are you in?
mine is bad in low coverage area, spend a day in town and its great. At work its another story, have to charge at least once in the middle of the day.
With T-Mobile conversion from Sprint, I feel like their 5G isn't fast, seems slow to me. I did see where T-Mobile was supposed to stop advertising that it has the most reliable 5G, since a recent report showed that it isn't.............they are planning to appeal.

Question heating issue

hello, it has happened to you that the mobile shows the overheating warning for a couple of minutes after being exposed to the sun for example when bringing it in the car, does anyone know how to improve temperature management, something like this happened to me with an S9+ but it was in rarely and the Mi 13 Pro does it frequently
Don't leave it lying in the sun? seriously the heat generated is not good for your phone.
Same with my Xiaomi 12 pro, while I never had this alert with my other Xiaomi.
Processors, battery are from another generation and the setting can be very sensitive.
I used bright skin on back and make a/c air go on the phone. Even with wireless charging temperatures are ok
