JasmineRom: How to enable "Format sdcard as internal" - Verizon Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey folks! I'm currently running JasmineRom 7.0, and I was wondering if there is any way to re-enable the "Format as Internal" feature that stock MM gives for sdcards? I read that Samsung disabled this feature on their ROMs. I also read that this option can be re-enabled by editing a line in /Data/System/rc.xxxxxxxx (can't remember the config file name) for the LG G3. Is it also possible to enable it for us rooted Note 4 users? Has anyone on here done this?

I don't know if this will work or not.

If you try, I strongly suggest doing a full nandroid backup first.

Hey, thanks! I'll try this one of these days when I'm feeling a bit daring. My 32gb sdcard is only a class 4 I didn't even realize they made them that slow anymore. Time for a newer card I suppose. Probably best to have the fastest card possible before using this feature.

That's the downside of using adoptable storage. The fastest SD cards aren't nearly as fast as the memory in the phone.

De La Vega Root Question

Does the De La Vega root method survive an OTA update. If I have a stock 4.3 T-Mobile Note 3, which I rooted with this method, will Root survive the OTA process? If so, can I just take the T-Mobile OTA, or should I use an alternate method?
I want to preserve my knox status for retail purposes, and don't want to use CF-Root to trip it. The thread is unclear, wondering if someone can confirm.
Thanks
I'm sorry but I personally have answered this 5 or 6 times. .. so here it is again. .. If you update you will lose root and there is no 0x0 knox method atm...It's only been a day so I'm sure someone is working on it. ...

Funny, i asked the same question in another thread.. i wasn't able to get a clear answer either.
I have exact setup as you. are you going to take the OTA?
frankly, i am more comfortable taking OTA so i dont have to wipe and reset - and then wait for a knox 0x0 root method to come along.
i dont want to go through odin and wipe out all my stuff.. OTA seems cleanest to keep all my things intact.
what are you going to do?

I had the sane thing as you but took the plunge. ..I hate not having root right now but this is the best rom I have ever used. .. It's way better than 4.3.... And you might have to update with kies because people stated that the update failed with the OTA when rooted. But I just went straight for kies and it works perfectly and it doesn't erase any of you information...4.4.2 smooth as silk after it settles and the wifi, data signal, keyboard changes and gps is great. ..

do you have the problem that requires the External SD Card write fix, that rooted people are having to use?

That is not a problem. It is a feature that was built into Kit Kat specifically to make the system read from the internal storage for faster and smoother device. What we are doing on the root side is just a way for people with class 10 sdhc cards to be able to utilize their cards.
BTW. Sorry your question did not get answered. The Q&A for the update was moved to the general section instead of this one, so i've been missing alot of Q&A actual questions.

You can use any Google native app to write to the external card... like the gallery or the my files app. ... Any 3rd party app will not be able to do so. .. like Samsung camera saves pics to the ex card but all other cameras have to save to internal card. ... And ex file will say card is read only but the my files app that comes with the update writes just fine. ...
Once rooted there is a fix for this. .. But I'm waiting for the 0x0 root

I'm sorry I mean no disrespect, but what are you talking about? Breaking third party access to SD card is a feature?
And BTW yours is 3rd explanation for this mess, I heard security concerns and some other nonsense before, but to speed the device is a new one and biggest BS so far. How is SD card any concern for Google, since none of their current devices have SD card to begin with?
And as already mentioned the fix requires root and root breaks the Knox warranty on Samsung phones, so it's not an option for many.
If the speed was a reason for this so called "feature", how come all apps that come with firmware have access to SD card already, negating so called "feature" out of the box? Only third party apps that user may or may not install later are broken.
And how come the fix is not an option in the menu, available to all users, but requires root?
Sorry, but Google sabotaged SD card access on purpose to push people to their cloud services, that is the only logical explanation and this is not the first time they did that.

Should allow root without tripping Knox. You need Mobile Odin Pro to get this to work, and the bootloader posted in the thread above. Will be doing this tonight when I get home

So, I stupidly upgraded my tablet to KitKat a while back and now my SD card is rendered useless. I don't want to root because I don't want it to be a brick, so what should I do now?

Hi,
You don't say which model you own ??
If it is a SM-P605 you can root it with TowelRoot without problem nor risk.
Once rooted you can install SDFix from Google Play to recover the use of your external SD.

Kit-Kat has restricted the access to the External SD to Read-Only for the external app's.
The system App's can still write on it.
This can changed with the above mentionned app but it needs root.

Yes but we need to know which model: Wifi only (SM-P600) or Wifi + 3G (SM-P601) or Wifi +LTE (SM-P605)
Only the P605 can be rooted without tripping Knox.
If you dont want to root Just save your files to internal memory and move them to wherever you want on the external sd card using the stock my files app. Its not just the note. Every android tablet that runs KitKat has the same behavior.

Google/Android decided they didn't want you to write there in the new versions. However, there is a work around.
Here is one of the free apps that will change settings to allow you to write to the SD card:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=nextapp.sdfix
There are others. But, I think that all require you to be rooted.

Just for a lark, try Googling: KitKat SD Card.
I think you will find the change happened in ALL stock versions of KitKat It was an intentional change. However, almost all custom/modified ROMs turned this "feature" off as soon as they could.

How to enable RW on SD Card on Lollipop? Galaxy tab s 8.4 WiFi
On kitkat i would root it and instal sd fix, but on lollipop i dont know how.

807T (T-mobile) kernels/roms...with data?

I have combed every thread for the keywords relating to the 807t and have only come across one beta type rom and a few posts that state restoring a stock kernel and modem enables data on the 807t after installing some but not all 805 roms.
Right now I am running SweetRom with the stock kernel and modem from my 807t stock image.
My question is if there is any hope of a kernel (or rom) that still allows for data on this model or are there no devs with this device (or is any part of the 807t source not relesed, like the HTC radio on the HTC Rezound in regards to when CM was being developed)?
In relation to the kernel question I am particarly interested in why it seems restoring the modem and kernel does not work to acheive data on all 805 roms. I noticed the Iron rom does not seem to have data but a few others, sweetrom obviously included, do work. Are there reqiured files missing from the roms that this method does not work on?
Sorry, just trying to get a bit more performance and customization out of this device but having data is a must.
Thanks for any information available and happy Thanksgiving to everyone!!!

Also just out of curiosity do you know if a android also backs up foldermount mounts? I have so much mounted to the ext sdcard that I was just curious if formatting cleanly to try out different Roms and apns would negate the band road I have in that when I restore it the foldermount will need to be redone all over again.

You're disregarding the fact that Samsung use the EFS partition to hold a lot of important data regarding radio.
It doesn't necessarily have to be the rom or the kernel.

I understand that. It's been a bit since I switched Roms on the tab but I believe you also have to restore the stock EFS as well. Could the EFS and modem be left alone entirely or would that negate the ability to really do much?

Flashed it, chose stock kernel in aroma. Did not restore EFS, boot, or radio as I wanted to just see if it booted first. It did and the apn was of course empty although it didn't seem to send any messages about the sim card not being detected.... Might be a good thing. Just restored EFS, boot and radio and will update shortly if that brought data in.
No go, although it said nothing in terms of errors, there is a full signal bar. Can you post the apn for t-mobile on the tab? I can try creating that and seeing if that works which I'd imagine would.

OK so adding the apn did nothing. Now the last time I tried using iron rom and restoring efs/radio/boot I would either get a bootloop or that error about the sim card. All those times were on older builds.
Well good news. Flashing ironrom and restoring the stock files I mentioned above worked as far as bringing data back. Not sure what was changed in ironrom that allowed this to happen but yeah it works.
Now as for other Roms and your fixes, may still be a no go but it looks like it depends on certain files being added or removed from the rom which ironrom and sweetrom seem to have exactly what is needed.
BTW just because iron works now I am still totally down to still test for you if you want to develop a 807t rom.
The only issue left is a custom kernel for 807t. I think the biggest performance gains would come from that in terms of the choppiness in games and any possible battery saving. You wouldn't happen to be or or know of anyone interested in just playing around with making a kernel or porting a kernel to this?
