Headphone jack not working - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

Hello, I had my s3 sitting for a while and decide to use it (haven't used it for 7-8 months). So I go on Youtube and watch a video. The speaker works fine but whenever I insert the 3.5 mm jack, I cant hear anything and if I remove it the speaker stop working.
I have tried multiple ROMS (CM13, DU 5.1, Stock 4.4.2) but they all seem to have the same issue. I also tried 3 different headphones.
What could be the issue?

Been having this same issue for like a month or two now. Have done everything in my power to resort this issue.., all to no avail.. Let's just hope the mods are doing something bout this.. Else I will have no option than to resort to BT headset..

it could very well be a hardware issue, did you replace the headphone jack/speaker assembly?

Since I got this phone, nothing has been replaced other than the battery.. And besides I don't think its a hardware issue since we have more than 2 to 3 people experiencing the exact same issue..

Check if speakerphone works, if it does, then it is likely that the hp jack is jammed and causing the phone to disable the speaker because it thinks headphones are plugged in.

Yes, it sounds like a hardware issue of the headphone jack being jammed or broken. If the issue is exactly the same on all roms, I would definitely replace the headphone jack, they are not that expensive, only $7

Why I don't think this issue might be a hardware issue is that, when ever I plug the phone to a wall socket and connect the headset jack, the sound comes on. But some few minutes after taking it off the wall socket, the sound is gone. And I have to restart the phone to get the sound working again..

if the speaker works but headphone doesn't then it may be that the phone detects some other audio device on usb. Do you hear any sounds at all through the headphones, also do the playback controls on the headphone work? If they do it may be the audio IC

Yeah, the controls on the headphone do work when this occurs.. And I don't hear any other sound..
Mind you, Immediately after inserting the jack, all the sound (speaker and headset) system in the phone is lost. Until I do a restart.

Only one headphone works?

I've been going through headphones really quick lately, but i realized it was actually my phone. No matter what headphones i use only one of the buds work but if i put those headphones into my ipod, both work on every headphone.
At first i thought it was possibly the rom i have, but i converted back to stock because i bricked my phone lol (but i fixed it) and it was the same thing on stock...what could the problem possibly be?
Do you use a case?
maybe the headset doesnt go all the way in, also try cleaning the headset port maybe theres something stuck in there

exactly how would i clean it?
1. put some light and see if there is anything in there if not
2.try twisting the part you plug in your phone
what probably its happening is that there its an accumulation of dust/debris that's blocking the connection. Try holding it with the headphone jack facing the ground and try plugging and unplugging your headphones a bunch of times. That has fixed it for me on a few devices.

use something like a paperclip or a needle and gently clean it and see if something comes out.

[Q] Sudden loss of all sound ?

Very weirdly I noticed tonight that my notifications weren't making a sound. When I dug a little deeper I found I had no sound right across the board, ringtones, notifications. music, youtube, ANYWHERE !
I have looked through all the settings and nothing is set to mute and all volume levels are up. Factory reset has not cured this.
Anyone have any ideas ?
Thanks
I got my phone today...sound worked once then all sounds are gone??? No solution found?!!!! Is it a hardware issue?? Should we return it?
Try plugging in the headphones. Maybe something is wrong with your headphone socket and it thinks headphones are plugged in.

I agree, this has happened to make with previous phones on a few occasions. I think it can happen if you get a little dirt in the headphone socket.
Gave up and returned mine. I couldn't get the sounds back. Hopefully a replacement will be with me in a couple of days.
Did any of you use any software like Volume+, Volume control etc... ?

Audio Jack problem on Ace 2

I got a problem in Audio Jack. when i plug in my headphone , i have to hold it by side to get accurate sound.
also the ticking sound of plugging in is also changed. is there any way to fix it without opening it? i don't have a warranty and don't want to waste it's value by opening it

Even I had the same problem! It was a problem with my headphones not the audio jack!
Sometimes it is not phone or headphone problem. did you push jack hard when you want to plug in? I mean are u sure that the jack is fully plugged in?
I too have had this problem. I've tried two different 'audio jack to audio jack' cables (to plug into the car and a stereo) and they both have this problem. I've tried 3 sets of headphones and only one works okay. The ones that work are the Samsung headphones that came with the phone, which is interesting. They all used to work okay, it's just the last few weeks this has happened.
I've tried pushing them all the way in, but the only thing that works is, if you're looking at the screen, pushing the jack slightly to the right. Does anyone know if there's a simple hardware fix, like tightening something? I've googled this (thought it might be a general problem on other devices) but couldn't find anything.
Odp: Audio Jack problem on Ace 2
I have the same problem Samsung headphones works fine, rest breaks. I think about putting my Ace to guarantee.
I've tried 5 sets of headphones and 2 audio-jack-to-audio-jack cables. The only one that works okay is the Samsung headphones that came with the phone. How can this be? Planned obsolescence? Surely not. Just bad build quality maybe?
If anyone's interested, a short-term fix is a triangular piece of paper placed in the hole before you plug the headphones in. I have to push my jack to the right, so I put the paper on the left. Apparently pieces of drinking straws work and last longer.
Same problem.
Only samsung headphones work. My philips headphones that work on pc and another phones fine don't work on Ace2.

Try to hold jack (heads) right. It work but isn't a solution because is imposible to hold this way more than 1 minute and walk

[Q] Issue With Headphone Jack

Hi, I've been having a weird issue with my headphone jack that I was hoping someone might be knowledgeable enough to help with.
Long story short, I haven't been able to use headphones for a while. Any time I plug in a set of headphones, music will, most of the time, come out of the external speaker as if there was nothing plugged in. Every once in a while I am able to get music through the headphones, but it is extremely distorted, almost as if some of the frequencies are missing and you're only getting part of the range.
Now, the weird thing is that my phone works perfectly in my car using an aux cable. Just plug everything in and music runs through the car's speakers as if there was no issue to begin with. This gave me the idea of trying to use a female-female connector to plug the aux cable into the phone and the connector, and headphones into the connector. This does not work at all.
I'm completely at a loss as to why this is acting up. I really don't want to take it in to a repair place, and would be willing to try fixing it myself if someone was able to isolate the problem.
Thanks in advance.
Check your headphones first. It may just be a short in your headphones

Unfortunately it's not the headphones, the same issue persists over 5+ different pairs of all types.

Gah, I meant to include that. I'm on CyanogenMod 10.1.0-RC5-d2att.
I can't be 100% sure, but I'm fairly positive that there were no issues with this after installing at first.

I would try wiping cache and dalvik cache to see it that helps.

Well, it took a while, but after updating there is no difference from before. It seems like it's having trouble detecting that headphones are attached, but no issue with the AUX input.

Headphone issue

Saw a similar post involving aux cables. However when I plug in headphones I am noticing the headphone notification staying on for three seconds then going off..... And guess what no music only coming out of speakers!!
Anyone else having this issue
I have been having the same issue trying to use a Pressy. The phone recognizes it for a short duration, and then the symbol disappears and it ceases to work. It's almost always in the 3-20 seconds range.
OK update: tried with different headphones and it works... Seems the g3 is fussy about what cables it takes.
Quick update. The headphones i used today worked perfectly with no sound issues at all. Sound quality was good using beats audio installer

Can you get that from the play store? also are you rooted?
I am having issues with my headphones.
When I listen to music and twist my pin in the jack my G3 does all kind of things!
From shutting the music off, skipping tracks to activating some kind of voice control...
I tested the same thing with the headset that comes with the G3 and everythings fine.
In the Aux issue thread no one has problems with their headphones...
My guess is that it is due to the 3.5 pin because the headsets are split in 4 parts and normal headphones only in 3 with these small plastic rings
Does anyone share the same issue?
My apple ear buds work and sound great with g3 ...

Headphone problem
I think it has something to do with the length of the jack. I notice if the jack has a rim at the end it will have random issues. The stock LG jack has no rim?

I had this problem and found the problem is the male earphone pin on most headsets has a shoulder on it the LG female no likie. if you look at original LG male pin you see no shoulder on the shank. Try find one without shoulder and earphone will work all day.

I had the same issue with my new sony earbuds i bought yesterday, it seems until LG fix it, we need to use the stock earbuds (I like them anyway)
Anyone getting a systemUI crash until I remove the headphones. I am rooted and did have Xposed installed along with Viper Audio. I have since removed all mods and am back to stock rooted but with no improvement. The only thing I don't think I've tried is unrooting. Any ideas out there?
