Looks like the Xiaomi Mi Max doesn't support LTE in the US:

Unless you are in downtown big city you wont fill the difference. My job is 24/7 on the road all over US using Straight Talk ATT and LTE or 3G makes no difference for me. LTE is sooo overrated in US...
Yes. LTE is over rated OTOH we're also getting used to that. I have T-Mo and I have been in busy situations - such as fairs - where there's a lot of people - Nexus 6P is not doing too well there despite LTE - the calls and the texts are just crawling at that time.

The selling points of this device - namely updates and size were the reasons I'd go without LTE on this.

Yeah, I'm on T-Mobile. Speeds are fine. Sometimes I get crappy coverage if I'm in a building where my 6P would get full LTE bars.

I think LTE future-proofs the phone, at least until 5G arrives. Not just data but also voice and text will be shifted to 4G.
As often as I change phones, I probably shouldn't worry, tho
LOL true if I wasn't changing devices so often.

absolutely - i agree.
I would also encourage interested people to look at the you tube presentation of MIUI 8 this thing is awesome with or without LTE. Hence I bit the bullet - Please do not order from gearbest - my order was 7/5/19 and I am still waiting. Try finding a US seller.

I got my Mi4c from Gearbest. I even chose expedited shipping and it still took 2 weeks to get to me here in the US. Also, it came with an unofficial MIUI ROM they put on it.
I bought my Mi Max from ibuygou.com. Chose DHL shipping, got it in 3 days, and came with untouched MIUI software. Ibuygou is the way to go.

Ulver - that kinda sucks if Gearbest is putting on unofficial ROMs.
My understanding is there's a Chinese version and an international version. I am not clear if these can be flashed using some tool.
What did you do with this situation? What are you currently running?

I first used the China Dev ROM and installed Google Play/Google services myself. Then I unlocked the bootloader, installed TWRP and installed xiaomi.eu ROM. Then when the MIUI 8 global ROM was announced I used fastboot and Mi Flash to install it. I think I'll stay on the Global ROM for now.

Better news the device should be delivered by Monday - the 18th.
I Checked the MIUI website - It appears the Global ROM is 32 - the Device I've ordered is 64 - I wonder if 32 can be flashed on the 64, Let's see what gearbest has shipped.
GearBest is also tracking me across various websites now They're fast in that - Tho I did not pay extra for shipping so cannot blame them for the slow shipping.

If thats true, that sucks for the people who just bought it. I dont think google is that cruel.
Could be a new device category. Android chrome book? Project glass? Improved Nexus Q? They've established a nexus line with the 4,7, and 10 so the only logical thing to do is expand on it.
I'd like to see Google expand the Nexus range by releasing some sort of budget smaller-screen Nexus phone that can go on sales in the Play Store (was hoping the Galaxy Nexus would continue to be sold on the Play Store as a budget device but they ended up just completely removing it). Probably not a good idea to launch a new Android version on a budget phone though lol.

Yes, that's exactly what I was implying in my previous post that Google should have sold the GN alongside the N4 with a reduced price as a budget option, but they decided to discontinue it.
If they managed to get a top end device made for ridiculously cheap why not a mid level one for even cheaper. Everyone benefits (probably except phone manufacturers and retailers who are still trying to sell unlocked phones at ridiculously inflated prices).

I have a Nexus S 4G and from what I've experienced from a friends Gnex and read online about the Gnex, can REALLY say it's a mid-level phone? It might be on the lower end of high-end... But IMHO its still not a mid-level phone... Its better for everyone that they don't sell the Gnex cheaper because that would drop the resale value and essentially saturate the market with a "cheap" phone... Not saying the phone is cheaply made, but people think a phone is cheap if its not +300...

Maybe mid-level isn't the right word, but it's definitely not one of the current high-end phones. Anyway Apple, for example, has always been selling their previous models with reduced prices as a budget offering so it's not a strange concept. Anyway, saturating the market with good but cheap(er) phones isn't exactly a bad idea. If anything it encourages more manufacturers to make better, cheaper phones to stay competitive, which is good for consumers.

No need for speculations; the author did mention to not read too much into it ..
I bought my galaxy nexus a year ago, and I used the stock rom for a long time.
I always tought it was a good idea to be the firt to get google updates....
Since 2013 I started to flash custom roms on my device (i tried a lot of them), and I liked much more than the stock rom.
Whats the point of having a nexus phone, if im already using custom roms?
I wont get update by google anyway.
I want to buy a new phone, and prefer samsung quality over LG, so I was thinking to buy a galaxy S3 (here in Brazil is cheaper too).
there is any reason not to buy GS3 over N4? (using custom rom)
a friend of mine told me that custom roms run much better on nexus devices because they are open source and have less bugs.
is it true?
Nexus phones are made to be easily unlocked with with a simple command.

plus, with those custom roms, since you have a nexus it will be the first or among the first to get the newest updates to android or hell at least the most stable before any of the OEM versions or the ports that follow or lead up to them. Basically, nexus=first dibs to new stuff (from google anyway, as long as the device supports it)

This. Have you ever unlocked a Motorola device? It is nerve wrecking. Look it up on YouTube. You almost have to do a ritual dance with incense to do it correctly without bricking your device.

Something else to consider is updates to the proprietary files and other fun stuff that isn't open sourced. Nexus devices have these things update pretty regularly, and with the new OS build. Others...well of course they lag a bit behind the Nexus line, and as such may not see an update for a month or more in most cases.

i prefer my GNex over and Galaxy S3S/4 any day. i work on Galaxy S's almost every day and while unlocking/rooting/flashing them is literally a < 5 minute process they just feel too large and clunky to play with. big screen is ok, hardware is good, but my GNex just feels more responsive and clean and having support for all of the latest Android updates first in line is a bonus. Nexus 4 is ok too but it reminds me of holding an iPhone too much and i don't like the feel of the device. just an opinion

If you like paranoid android phablet mode you'll be more inclined to like the it. It's not meant for a phone display- and actually it is the replacement for their tablet app. I bought it because it's on sale for the price of a can of pop and maybe I'll get a tablet some day.
i used this entire time the beta, and apparently Tapatalk 4 it still has this bug remain from tapatalk 2
like when you scroll down it sometimes shows thesame block of threads twice.. or messages in threads..
Sometimes in Subscriptions only the threads I subbed to appear, and not the main page for example Nexus 4.
Also not all strings of text are translated which smells like beta.
New UI, same crap. But it's useful enough for me so I use it. Better than using browser for sure.
Love this App. If you are active with many different forums, this is the best app for you.
I hate the new layout. I'm going to keep using the beta version until I can't.
I bought version 2 long ago and I hoped that it would be upgraded so nobody would have to buy it again. I did anyway since it was only a buck but I really am disappointed with it.

Hello,
Is it the New Nexus 7 released in 2013?
If yes, I am not even aware it is available yet although I did read in the news that a man from China got it by mistake while shipping it from USA.
Do not tell me that you are that guy
Well, if you have the old model, Nexus 7 2012, then you have posted this in the wrong thread.
If you have the new Nexus 7, It depends that you can run custom roms or not. No one has seen the binaries or flash images for the New Nexus 7 so I can not say it might work or not. You might have to take the risk if you still want to try.
Also, I think unless LTE is integrated with some system files, you will be cool to go and not be able to use communications but that is still highly unlikely because from the old Nexus 7 LTE model, I know the source binaries were quite different.
You can even hard brick your device.
My advice, enjoy the LTE till it is official.
I work for a mobile company in the UK. So I have a final test one. A nexus 2013 LTE.

Probably never will make any voice calls, they so far go on overlaid 3g networks due to lots of upgrades required in the backhaul. Voip, ie. CSipSimple, is the way to go. And you will need a headset.
The Phone App is in the filesystem but doesn't show in the ui.
I'm hoping this will be different as it uses a different chip than the nexus 7 3g(2012)
The 2013 N7 LTE should be using a APQ8064-1AA + MDM9615A + WTR1605L,
which is very similar to the APQ8064 + MDM9615A + WTR1605L on the N4.
While it might be (hypothetically) possible for it to do so in hardware, it could still be disabled.
Both the N4 and 2013 N7's wifi/bt chips also support fm radio at the silicon level, but it's disabled at the chip level.
The LTE on the N4 is disabled at the firmware level (as the lte mod is due to leftover code, if it were not for that it doesnt have LTE period)
It could have voice calls disabled at the silicon level, chip level, firmware level, or rom level, since they can easily spec modems that have broken voice call support since it's not used in the first place.
