So seems like KLP at the end =P - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Well a drawing made by Manu Cornet (Google's employee) "almost" confirms the name of the next Android version
Kool huh?

I'm pretty sure Schmidt already dropped the name in an interview a whole back but it's good to have some "confirmation".

If thats true, that sucks for the people who just bought it. I dont think google is that cruel.

Could be a new device category. Android chrome book? Project glass? Improved Nexus Q? They've established a nexus line with the 4,7, and 10 so the only logical thing to do is expand on it.

I'd like to see Google expand the Nexus range by releasing some sort of budget smaller-screen Nexus phone that can go on sales in the Play Store (was hoping the Galaxy Nexus would continue to be sold on the Play Store as a budget device but they ended up just completely removing it). Probably not a good idea to launch a new Android version on a budget phone though lol.

Yes, that's exactly what I was implying in my previous post that Google should have sold the GN alongside the N4 with a reduced price as a budget option, but they decided to discontinue it.
If they managed to get a top end device made for ridiculously cheap why not a mid level one for even cheaper. Everyone benefits (probably except phone manufacturers and retailers who are still trying to sell unlocked phones at ridiculously inflated prices).

I have a Nexus S 4G and from what I've experienced from a friends Gnex and read online about the Gnex, can REALLY say it's a mid-level phone? It might be on the lower end of high-end... But IMHO its still not a mid-level phone... Its better for everyone that they don't sell the Gnex cheaper because that would drop the resale value and essentially saturate the market with a "cheap" phone... Not saying the phone is cheaply made, but people think a phone is cheap if its not +300...

Maybe mid-level isn't the right word, but it's definitely not one of the current high-end phones. Anyway Apple, for example, has always been selling their previous models with reduced prices as a budget offering so it's not a strange concept. Anyway, saturating the market with good but cheap(er) phones isn't exactly a bad idea. If anything it encourages more manufacturers to make better, cheaper phones to stay competitive, which is good for consumers.

Want a Motorola Nexus even more than I want a Sony one.
i cant say its a good decision to make 3 nexuses until i see some specs..
I think I could get behind a Sony nexus if they keep their extremely good looking design and use some really good internal hardware.
Motorola Nexus is the only thing that interests me. If not, Samsung still has my money for the next Nexus.

is that why I couldnt get one, cause you got the one
More Nexus devices the stronger the code will get, no hacking in some hardware keyboard, for a possible slide out phone.(bad refrence I know but you see what I am saying)
If the people that get confused when shopping, that's not the type of people you want to buy the product.
A nexus as slim as the razor maxx with that huge battery and vanilla android...doesn't get any better
well yeah i dont see where the bad part is, you see looks, specs, brands and grab the one u like the most
The bad part is dividing the devs/community across multiple devices and thus making users lose half of the point of having a nexus (the other half being updates, vanilla...)
Please not LG, please not LG...
Im thinking a Kyrocera Nexus
I know it's spelt wrong but I don't think that phone brand is worth my time in figuring out the correct way to spell it.
Jellin' like a felon
I'm thinking the CPU/GPU will be the same, the design/screen will be the differentiating factor between the nexii. That is if there is more then one released.

Is Galaxy nexus worth buy over the LG nexus 4 once its released ??

Hii guys,
So ive been saving up some money to buy my new phone. I initially chose the GNex since it is cheaper and other stuff. I'm from india and i thought of buying it from ebay india.
Anyway now that LG nexus 4 release date is close(will it be released in india this november ??) i'm wondering if its still a good move to buy the GNex. I heard that the LG nexus 4 have 2 gb ram etc etc better specs than GNexus ?? Is that true ??
So, i thought of ordering Galaxy nexus this week. Is that a good choice ??
If someone could help me making my choice i would thank it very much
Thanks in advance
Use common sense....plus they pulled gnex from playstore

Needing LTE or being on Verizon or any other CDMA network are the only two reasons to stay with the GNexus.
lolz.. with that spec and with that price and with you made it obvious... you still dont know the answer?? the spec are way too high than gnex. its a different case if already have a gnex, but since you didnt... oh well "go go for Nexus 4" lolz...

We don't know if the nexus 4 will launch in India or not. Or when it would launch, if it does. Most people say it would likely be priced at 25k but no one knows for sure.
If you are willing to wait for more than a month for a possible release (which may or may not even happen) or are ready to spend over 25k to order it online and have it shipped, then the nexus 4 is a good choice.
The galaxy nexus is available right now for pretty cheap but it isn't as good as the N4.

The Nexus 4 has a better CPU, GPU, more RAM, slightly bigger and higher resolution LCD screen, wireless charging, and larger battery.
Yet unless something happens to my Galaxy Nexus I'm not upgrading because I've decided there are two things I love about the Galaxy Nexus that isn't available for the Nexus 4:
1) AMOLED screen. I don't care that it's pentile. Maybe my eyesight sucks because I can't tell the difference between pentile and non pentile 720P screens. I can tell the AMOLED screens produce colors I like.
2) Swappable battery. This is crucial for me.
With that said... I wouldn't spend more than $200-$230 on a used Galaxy Nexus... because let's face it... the Nexus 4 is still a beast of a device for the money.
even im eager to buy one here in India.. but i think u shud see this http://pricebaba.com/blog/coming-up-nokia-lumia-510-lg-l9-htc-8x-one-x
Expected price is around 30k in India.. not confirmed though.. Saw in some italian blog too that even there its going to be priced around 550 Euros according to some credible sources.. so if it costs more than double the amt compared with US, I think getting a Gnex makes sense or ask some one to get it from the US.
we are always deprived of all good things in the world or shud pay a lot to get them.. sucks

Different story with Android vs Apple. The entirety of Apple's lineup doesn't even equal one year's worth of Android releases, so there are far fewer device builds to write for. In addition Apple is completely in charge of the manufacturing process for their products, whereas Google is only partially in control of one. Even with all of that nonsense though, the manufacturer skins and carrier testing are the major bottlenecks for the pace of update releases.

Still that's no excuse... the base is should be upgradable just like in windows phone series... Google needs to stop custom market skins like sense ui and touchwiz or make parts of them optional like how go launcher go dialer go SMS all are. Also android hardware should be all the same.. let the device look different by the external design such as glass plastic metal and such...

It came down to me having to pay past bills to att and T-Mobile... Verizon was no deposit...
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
Here are your two reasons:
1) Google releases source code, and relies on an open platform. CDMA is NOT an open platform. So verizon/sprint/etc get to dictate terms.
2) Verizon HATES open platforms/being told what to do. This is why you see the CDMA GNex not getting timely updates (vzw/sprint has to OK it) and also why you see vzw blocking Google wallet, adding in their apps.
If you want ALL carriers to stop their bull****, stop buying their phones and start buying open platforms such as unlocked gsm nexus phones. The carriers make a lot of money off their subsidized phones and accompanying plans. Remove their power, and they'll listen.
Also, the reason apple can update the way they do is: a "unified" userbase, and not having an open platform.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
What I'm sick of is people buying CDMA phones then crying when they don't get the update immediately. You knew this was coming when you bought the phone. Delayed CDMA updates have happened before, it's nothing new. It's like complaining about waiting in line at the DMV.
I am upset because I was under the impression that a Galaxy Nexus was a true nexus and I was sure I would get the full experience. I wish I would have known the CDMA GNex wouldn't be as supported as the GSM GNex

Yes.it is googles fault. They should handle all updates via the play store for all os. I went to vzw they blame Google... Google blames carriers...
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
Have you read up on this at all? Basically the drivers for the CDMA technology is what holds the process up.. that's a carrier problem. GSM is an open standard where CDMA is closed, so carriers have to get involved with Google to make sure updates work the way they're supposed to. ESPECIALLY with LTE.. which is why there's no LTE on the Nexus 4. Your best bet is T-Mobile. I'm fine with that. T-Mob is actually pretty good in my area and HSPA+ is waaaaaaaaaaaaaay better than Sprints crappy 3G and non-existant LTE service.
All that to say. No it's not Google's fault. They ARE handling the updates OTA where they can.. but Sprint and Verizon have to lock down the radio's and what not. I actually applaud Google for going the route they did with the Nexus 4. It's a philosophy I'm willing to support with my dollars. I'm willing to give up LTE ... which i technically don't have now anyway.

[Q] Why to buy a Nexus Phone?

I bought my galaxy nexus a year ago, and I used the stock rom for a long time.
I always tought it was a good idea to be the firt to get google updates....
Since 2013 I started to flash custom roms on my device (i tried a lot of them), and I liked much more than the stock rom.
Whats the point of having a nexus phone, if im already using custom roms?
I wont get update by google anyway.
I want to buy a new phone, and prefer samsung quality over LG, so I was thinking to buy a galaxy S3 (here in Brazil is cheaper too).
there is any reason not to buy GS3 over N4? (using custom rom)
a friend of mine told me that custom roms run much better on nexus devices because they are open source and have less bugs.
is it true?

plus, with those custom roms, since you have a nexus it will be the first or among the first to get the newest updates to android or hell at least the most stable before any of the OEM versions or the ports that follow or lead up to them. Basically, nexus=first dibs to new stuff (from google anyway, as long as the device supports it)

Something else to consider is updates to the proprietary files and other fun stuff that isn't open sourced. Nexus devices have these things update pretty regularly, and with the new OS build. Others...well of course they lag a bit behind the Nexus line, and as such may not see an update for a month or more in most cases.
S3 becuz u can just port some s4 stuff over to it. Which is the newest stuff.

N4 is actually better at hardware level (more ram and a newer cpu) and consequently you will have a longer lifetime for you device ..if you will have treated it gently
The S4 if you don't mind the high price otherwise the N4.

I can get the S4 for $99 if I trade in my Gnex. Here's the catch: I have to sign a two year contract.
No thank you.

Don't agree... If one has an S3, no point upgrading to S4.. Now if you don't have an S3 already.. Just skip it and get s4. Actually, I realized I don't care about any phone if its not a Nexus.

i prefer my GNex over and Galaxy S3S/4 any day. i work on Galaxy S's almost every day and while unlocking/rooting/flashing them is literally a < 5 minute process they just feel too large and clunky to play with. big screen is ok, hardware is good, but my GNex just feels more responsive and clean and having support for all of the latest Android updates first in line is a bonus. Nexus 4 is ok too but it reminds me of holding an iPhone too much and i don't like the feel of the device. just an opinion

Anyone thinking of getting the new Moto X?

Just wondering everything we know seems to suggest a "nexus" phone really, even if it won't be branded as such. I did not care for the LG version, so I skipped it but I am seriously thinking of upgrading to the Moto X unless the information posted so far turns out to be wrong.
Not on Verizon lol
Edit: for me, I like specs. This phone will not keep my interest with mid range specs. Maybe if I see the software on this phone with the Google optimizations, I might consider. For now, eyes are on a potential Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 smartphone.

Just being curious, why are you interested in the Moto X and not the Nexus 4, when both devices look really similar in terms of specs (the Nexus 4 looks even slightly better) ?
I'm thinking about the just announced Droid Maxx to replace my GNex. I'm waiting until I can hold it and people start getting them. Spec sheets are overrated.

I think my power button is going out so I'm sort of in the market for a new phone(thank god for volume wake/navbar screen off). As long as the price below $250, gets better battery life than our GN, I'm in. But I'm also curious if this IS the new nexus or if they'll be releasing another $350 Nexus with better specs later this year.

dancingtortoise, it's not a new Nexus phone: the Nexus 4 will still be in available for sale. We can probably expect a new Nexus phone for Oct-Nov 2013.
Yeah, I like the customization options for it, only thing holding me back (and only by a small bit) is the last year specs. That said, if the price is right then I'll pick it over the Nexus 4 and finally drop Sprint to switch to TMobile. Regardless, the Moto X price I think will be the deciding factor, if it's $200-ish then alot of people will probably get it just based on the hype alone. If it's $300-ish or more then I imagine it will fall more into a niche market.
I started with the original moto droid but I swore off Motorola after I got the droid 3. I was very disappointed. I used a fascinate in between selling the d3 and getting the gnex. I was running hellybean 4.2.2 and loving it, on a single core! The new moto phones look nice, but I will wait until the next Google nexus comes out, no matter who makes it. I just hope the phone comes out for Verizon too this time!

The Nexus 4 was too flimsy, heard waaaaay too many horror stories about build quality, easy breaking and lock ups. And anyway the hardware improvements were not a big enough upgrade to me, and I already had the software on my GNex. The hardware upgrades here seem more of an actual upgrade(i like the alleged 32gb option). Even though as before I will have to wait and see, and I will already have the new software upgrades since I am assuming this thing runs 4.3

From everything I have heard, and certainly this has not been confirmed, there will never be another nexus phone on Verizon. Ever. Google was pissed the way Verizon dealt with them on the GNex and supposedly has unofficially said they will never do that again. So at the very least you may want to think of a plan B

And what device on Verizon DOESN'T have a locked bootloader (GNex doesn't count)? The One when/if it hits? Well, if you like the One, go for it. Based on what was released earlier today, the Moto X/Droid line is far from "mid range specs". Hogwash, pure hogwash. The mid range spec thing was a rumor based on rumor. Motorola didn't say that and neither has any carrier. It was assumed because the processor was listed as "dual core" on FCC filings. Further, we haven't really seen the device in action yet. So far it looks like stock Android with a couple of Motorola widgets and some custom icons tossed in here and there along the OS. Looking at Motorola's X8 processor, it seems far from "old". Just because you read "Dual Core" online, it doesn't really mean a whole lot in this case. Is it going to be developer friendly? Probably not. But it depends on what you want. If you want to spend the life of your device flashing buggy roms and waiting for CM XX.XX to finally finish right as the next version of Android comes out so you do it all over again, well, then it's probably not for you. I think the X8 looks very intriguing.
For me, if it runs smooth, fast and lasts as long as my GNex does with my Hyperion then frankly it's a home run. I've always looked to Nexus devices to get the latest updates. Now, with Google's new APK's, that's less of an issue to me. Further, with Motorola having exclusive right's to develop the "Droid" line for Verizon and talks of them slowing down device roll outs, I'm thinking that this might provide opportunities for more updates (Especially with Google having a hand in Motorola now).
Don't like it, don't buy it. Personally, I moved to Verizon for the GNex knowing full well that it might be the only thing remotely close to "Nexus" that the carrier ever got. If it runs smooth with zero lag then that puts it up there with the One, and both will stand above the S4. Looking at a Spec Sheet is right up there with a redneck showing off their belt buckle size. People are duped into buying laggy crappy phones with awesome spec sheets every quarter.
Chase those quad cores that don't even have software and apps optimized to use them.
Do you optimize, bros!?

Noooooooooooo! That might be enough for me to move to another carrier. I just hate to lose my unlimited data.
Wasntv Verizon getting the different versions of the HTC one and S4 with AOSP versions of android on them?

Not sure but even if so, you could always buy a verizon phone, root it and toss pure Android on it You'd have to pay full price for that HTC one. Honestly paying full price for a subsidized verizon contract AND paying full price for a phone would just be silly.

Yeah, just not the moto phones with locked boot loaders That's what made me get rid of my d3. Well I'm happy with my gnex for now, we'll just have to wait and see. I don't see a need to get rid of it for at least another year. Even if we don't get KLP, cm or other ROM devs will keep it going for a bit.

From what I've read around the web.. Nothing official, of course.... The Moto X looks to be similar in specs as the Droid Ultra.
I don't know if Verizon cares or not, but there are a lot of g'nex users keeping their phones due to lack of a satisfactory replacement. Maybe that will put a little pressure on big V to have 1 nexus phone on their service.
Just dreaming....
