Hello people! I wanted to see if anyone else has been having any similar problems as I have been having.
I have had TWO different Fire TV Sticks recently that have been unable to connect to a WIFI connection. Both of them were very close to the routers. They both had the same message when I attempted to connect to the WIFI connection: 'Not In Range'.
I typed the WIFI password in with all lowercase and then all caps. I reset the stick. I even restored the stick back to the factory defaults. Nothing worked.
Any ideas?
I guess you try to connect to 5 Ghz? Then you have to choose a fixed lower channel in your router. The fire tv afaik doesn't see higher 5 Ghz channel.

I was having that problem until I turned band steering off within my router settings.

Hey guys,
My wifi seems to be completely broken as even after multiple factory resets, it still does not work. I have used the stock factory images from google to install 4.4.4 and even today installed 5.0.1. But still the wifi does not work.
The tablet is able to scan for networks and find my home router, but when I connect it stays stuck on "Saved" and won't connect further. A few months ago I was trying to spoof my mac address and it seemed to stop working after that, could that be the permanent cause?
What would you recommend? I am past the warranty period but got the tablet from sainsburys UK
Have you reset your router ? If not, cycle its power and then power up your tablet and try to connect. Sometimes some routers think a device is connected when it is not.

I really don't think it's router related as I have had two different routers over the time the WiFi has been broken (none of them work). Also I've tried connecting to my phone hotspot but still the same problems.
Hi All,
My fire tv again has dropped the internet connection and now blinking with Orange light. I try powering on and off but didn't help. Last time i had to reboot my router and it worked but all other device connect to my router are connected to internet.
I have a wired connection, i also tried wifi but get the same message connected with problem.
Anyone else had this issue and any idea what is the problem or how to fix it. I hate to reboot the router each time, this is the 2nd time in 1 week period with this issue with internet.
My AFTV is rooted so i hate to returned it and get another one who knows the other will be rootable.
Updated
I tested the connection on my raspberry PI which was also not able to connect so I rebooted my router and everything is good for now. I suppose there is some issue with the router i didn't have this issue for the past year when i had the Raspberry PI connected but i did reset my router few weeks ago so not so maybe the router is acting up for now i will keep an eye on it.
Thank you
It seems that my AFTV2 can't refresh an IP on wired connection when it drops and comes back.
Every time I reflash my router and it reboots my AFTV2 loses the internet connection and not only does it not detect the router coming back up and refresh an IP address, there's no way to do it manually from the UI, at least I couldn't find it. I have to restart AFTV2 to pick up an IP again.
Anyone else has this issue or is it my device being defective?

Is the Fire TV directly attached to the router or does it connect through a switch? If the cable is never disconnected (since the switch is still on) it will not attempt to get a new IP.

Directly attached. All my other directly attached devices detect the disconnect/reconnect and refresh their IPs.

I'm having the same issue with 2 of my FTV 1's. I have had the units for 1.5 years now and never had an issue so I assume it has to do with a firmware update when the then FTV's came out.
I have been dealing with Amazon tech/escalated tech support for a little over 2 weeks now with not real answer.
Its worth noting that I have my router set up to restart at 3:00AM every day and the only way to clear the issue is restart the FTV. Once I do that it is fine until the next day.
I will keep you posted if I get a answer form Amazon, they are supposed to call me back again on Monday.
I got the Fire TV box a month ago and it has worked intermittently since. The first 1-2 weeks it worked fine but since it keeps coming up with the message "network connection lost" when first starting the box. The remote doesn't work and so I can't even get to the settings. The box just freezes at this point and I can't dismiss the warning without a remote.
I've tried restarting the box multiple times and also the router. Its connected via wireless and there's no possibility for ethernet connection as the router is far away from the TV. All other wifi's work fine eg on laptop, smart TV and mobiles.
I thought I had a dodgy box so had this replaced yesterday and although it worked then today its back to the same problem.
Connected to Samsung TV via HDMI cable. Have tried different ports and a new HDMI cable.
Router settings:
Virgin Suberhub - speed around 40mbps
WPA
11b+11g+11n
Channel 1
Any ideas what the problem and solution can be? Do I have to get a usb keyboard to be able navigate to the settings page and reset the box / wireless connection.
Hi, I've bought 2 days ago a new fire tv stick, everything working fine except wifi.
First I coudn't connect ("connection to %s") and I found out that was a special character on the wifi password.
Then was the wifi password encryption (WPA2 TPIK wasn't supported), and changed it to WPA2 AES solved it.
Then every day the wifi connection is lost (after an initial good connection) and the fire tv stick start act like crazy, I can't reconnect (on setting is written "connected" but isn't true), I can't rescan, I can't insert the network manually. The only thing I could do to let the wifi working is to restore the default setting.
Now I have and "old" Netgear DGN2200v4 ADSL router, I use the channel 1 (but I switched also su auto and other number), and the wifi bandwith is only 2.4Ghz.
What can I do to let this thing working? beside throw it out of the window?
thank you in advance
