[Q] plug a NTFS tard disk or USB key?

hi everybody
I try to plug an NTFS USB key but if doesn't seems tout work with paragon NTFS app . For information my note 2014 is rooted and it runs with the CleanRom v2. In paragon app my USB key is recognised but the app can't mount it
Does someone managed to get an external NTFS HDD to work?

You need usb stick plugin for commander. You will need to pay for it and it only works with total commander file manager but it does allow NTFS access....

Hi guys,this is my first post so I hope it will be helpful
If you want your SM-P600 to mount and read NTFS formatted Hard drives you will nee to install the kernel shown here

After you do that you can install Paragon or USB OTG helper,the hard drive should be mounted and your tablet should be able to show the files on it if you use ES file explorer

Working Method to Read NTFS? Tried some but no luck.

I researched for ways to make 10.1 14 read any external HD with NTFS format thru OTG.
Found a couple of ways, tried and it still show me empty folder.
Tried both Stickmount and [root]Ntfs Mounter and both doesn't work. It tried both of them with my 3 HDD (256 GB SSD, 1TB and 2TB WD Passport).
I was hoping to connect it without having to reformat any of the disk to ExFAT or FAT32.
Is there any method that's working yet

Hi,
There is only one working solution as I know.
You have to install TotalCommander and then also the relate USB plug-in.
The only limit is that for NTFS is read-only.
For all the other programs you find on the store for OTG management, are not working because of the restrictions made by SELinux in enforcing mode.
To solve this, you have to find a working custom kernel that sets SELinux in Permissive mode. But as far as I know there is nothing for sm-p605.

Thanks for the response. So that's why everything that I'm trying just tells me its mounted but doesnt show me anything.
I was hoping to use it as OTG storage so read-only seems pointless at this moment.

AFAIK, bindroid kernel is coming with NTFS support, limited to SM-P600 and SM-P601.

Since about two days there's a new version of Stickmount, which will during the first run download additional stuff to enhance compatibility. I would suspect an Ntfs driver.

How do i read external hdd with NTFS file system?

Hi.
Android does not support NTFS supposedly, but you can install apps that allow android to read an NTFS file system.
I have an powered otg lead, and it can read fat32 external hdd with no problems, it`s just ntfs i am having problems with.
There are a few apps on Google Play.
Can anybody recommend an good app, I am rooted but my brother in law`s 10.5" is not, so an app that works without rooting will be great.

My tab can read flashdisk with NTFS file system , but can't remove everyting from tab to flashdisk , it only can remove file from flashdisk to tab, i used es explorer to manage file , it can read flashdisk with NTFS without root

I am on stock kitkat v4.4.2 , I just formatted an usbflash to ntfs and copied an couple of small video files and pluged it into my 10.5" , And i just get an "blank sd unsupported file system" message.

I'm on stock 5.0.2 no root same 10,5" t805 . May be you must upgrade to lolipop or if your brother won't to upgrade , the choice is must be root the tab, or try again to format your flashdisk to NTFS and then pluged again

I have Root and my brother-in-law is on lollipop, this is really for my brother-in-law, so lollipop is compatible with NTFS? , according to google it does not.

My brother-in-law tried his 2TB WD USB Drive and it is not detected on his T800, but if he plugs in an Usb-Flash-Stick the stock file explorer automatically opens and shows the files straight away.
My brother-in-law does not even know hot to find out what files system his usb 2tb hdd is, but i think it must be ntfs.

Usb drive must ntfs because fat32 can't proses file above 4gb, you need usb Otg with additional power because the power from tab s not enough to proses 2tb usb drive

I have an powered otg cable, hope he had the power connected right, I am still waiting for confirmation that lollipop supports ntfs, I tried it on kit kat but an message on the notification bar said blank sd.

Ok, A member on the NBR forum, told me how to read NTFS without root for free "Get total commander and the USB stick plug in and you can read and write NTFS without needing root"

It can easily read more than 32GB, without doing anything. (In Fat32 of course)

Anyone any ideas how I can get this storage module working? flashed with twrp Pretorians add on. Using format fat32 and filemanager + but it's not showing up the 32gb SanDisk USB storage. Dunno what I'm doing wrong man [emoji106]

You don't need to install any module to be abke to access fat32 formatted device, hell you don't need to have root at all. Fat32 is recognized by the system as is.
You just need a working OTG cable and use MiXplorer (download it from XDA official page). You will see your thumb drive in the hamburger menu (first or second one).
I have non rooted firestick 4k and it works.
I have no experience with fos5 devices and i cannot say anything about that because most NORMAL commands don't work there

NTFS and ExFAT file systems are developed by Microsoft.
Amazon is not paying to Microsoft for the license to use NTFS and ExFAT.
The maximum file size for NTFS and ExFAT are 16EB (exabytes) or 16 million GB (gigabytes).

Hey my device is the way I want it now sween wolf, rooted with all apps installed, I can't be assed unrooting it now.
but anyway I flashed the magisk module with the general thought being if I was using a pre-rooted rom I would lose the ability to use the USB drive through OTG?
So I flashed Pretorians module but I can't get the USB drive to show up, it's a sabrent 32 gb formated to fat32
I'm using a similar app to xplore called filemanager plus but with no joy... The USB storage just isn't playing ball and showing up you know?
So I don't need the module at all? , should I perhaps try reformatting the USB?

I am not telling you to unroot, this is not something rooting a device kills, but yeah with or without root, usb works.
Try changing your explorer, use mix or es file explorer to see if the usb is getting recognized but isn't showing up

My english is not perfect so i still not try this before i will be sure.
What is easiest way to enable ntfs or exfat usb drives?
I need this for Kodi, so i cant use es file manager.

and that is the reason users need for higher resolution movies bigger than 4gb ntfs or exfat mass or some NAS to circumvent the limitation for local mass storage filesize of fat32

It absolutely is. The maximum file size for FAT32 is 4GB. What you linked to is exFAT, which is NOT FAT32. exFAT also cannot be read by the firestick.

Question Connecting SSD drive

I have a SSD I format it in NTFS and plug it into the phone, it tells me that there is an issue with the drive.
So I format it with phone. Then plug it back into PC and it says it formatted it to Fat32, this makes it impossible to move any video to it.
My main idea was to use it for backup of pictures and video.

You done it in a wrong way. Sadly, Android devices don’t support NTFS format by default, you have to do it manually. Depends on whether your phone is rooted or not, it has different ways. Without root, use Total Commander to do it, with root, you get more choices. I didn't do it for a long time so can't tell just by memory. You can Google it and there should have a lot information you can get from the web for how to enable NTFS format in Android.

I am rooted, but have not seen a way to do it. Most say Total Commander or Paragon. Searched around web. Some of the threads are super old. And having issues finding ways to do it with Rooted device.
There is no Magisk modules anymore. Will keep looking.

That doesn't work.
From what I read , it seems Pixel 6 Pro does not support those formats. and you have to do work arounds to get it done.

There "may" be others way to use it on Pixels now, but I'm satisfied now that after all these years of having Pixel phones I bought the full Paragon deal: exFAT/NTFS for USB by Paragon Software. It's not ideal, but it works, and paying for the full deal gets me both ExFAT and NTFS (among other things that I probably don't care about).
I still use X-Plore File Manager to access the external storage through Paragon's app.

exFAT is natively supported on Android 13, at least for Pixel devices. I have a USB NVME drive that's formatted as exFAT and my Pixel 6 Pro running the latest Android 13 beta recognises it natively with full read/write access.

Did that program and it mounted it, but accessing is an issue. Not sure if I am doing it right,

I know it suggests Total Commander, but there's an option somewhere in there where I could get Paragon's access listed in X-Plore File Manager, which I prefer.
It's possible I didn't have to do anything special in the Paragon app - it's not too often I have to use it. It might have been just using X-Plore File Manager's ability to customize what mounted "drives" it listed, and adding Paragon from the list of available drives - after I already mounted the actual drive through the Paragon app.

I've partitioned my external SSD to 3, and only 1 is exFAT. The rest are NTFS.
In stock android 13 it is only able to read the exFAT partition.
To my surprise I noticed that in AncientOS (12L), it can read all in file manager. Don't know why though! didn't bother to read the features.
