How I update the bootloader? - Nexus 5X Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I have a N5 with pure nexus e twrp.
With the new july update there is the new bootloader. I have installed the last pure nexus but the booloader is the old.
I need to update the bootloader? How I can it?

You don't need to update the bootloader as long as your aren't switching major Android versions.
If you want to flash the bootloader: download the factory image and extract the bootloader .img file. Flash that thing via fastboot.
Or you can simply do it via flashfire. In the settings is an option for flashing the bootloader.

[Q] Still weiting for OTA 4.0.4

Hello,
i have a Galaxy Nexus "yakju" still on 4.0.2
i have opend the bootloader to able to make full dumps with cwm (without flashing it), but i got no ota update. i tried to delete Google Services Framework Data, but with no success...
Just flash the update, since you already have your bootloader unlocked. Files have been available for weeks.
Hi martonikaj,
i know that way to flash the OTA file via /cache, but my question is more in general. has google stopped the OTA? why i don't get it? couldn't find any usable info about this. May the bootloader locked to get OTA updates?

No, your bootloader doesn't have to be locked to get the OTA. Your radio, build.prop and complete footprint need to be proper to receive it though.
You don't use the /cache mode. If you have an unlocked bootloader, you just boot into a temporary CWM image and flash the update with Fastboot. The update will wipe that CWM and you'll be on stock 4.0.4.
I downloaded the OTA files and flashed it with stock recovery...

flashable 04.02 bootloader zip

I have my nexus 7 2013 running PA 3.99 and already have TWRP 2.6.3.
My bootloader version is FLO-04.01.
Is there a flashable [from TWRP] zip that will upgrade the bootloader to 4.02 (latest), without the need to connect to pc and via adb?
Also, will upgrading the bootloader, lock it again?
Thanks.
this is the latest bootloader: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=48221203&postcount=3
no it wont relock your device

Bootloader out-of-date

Hello everyone!
I attempted to flash a ROM the other day for my M9. I got an error because my bootloader is out of date (requires 1.2.50.1.36). Is there a place I can download an up-to-date bootloader? If not, is there a place where I can download a stock ROM ZIP for the old bootloader, and then update both the system and bootloader with an OTA?
Thanks!

What can't FlashFire flash from Nexus 5X factory images?

I want to have a rooted stock Android Nexus 5X with stock recovery. I also want to keep my boot loader locked. But I've read that automatic OTA updates don't work on a rooted phone. Then I found out about FlashFire.
But I also read that FlashFire doesn't allow flashing of the radio and boot loader. Chainfire himself said "FlashFire can flash both bootloaders and modems on most Nexus devices. However, I would only flash the modem and not the bootloaders, to be on the safe side. Or, use the full size OTAs available from Google rather than the Fastboot package, and circumvent the issue (those flash both bootloader and modem if necessary, with less risk when doing the bootloaders)."
So I've got 2 questions:
1. Is it possible to flash everything, including the radio and boot loader on the 5X?
2. If the boot loader is flashable, what are the potential drawbacks of flashing it with Flashfire instead of fastboot?
Thanks

OTA for rooted stock

I'm using rooted stock ROM, tried a few GSI but none of them had working NFC which I use a lot.
Anyway have had the update software thing flashing at me for some weeks now, would like to upgrade to the latest OTA.
Obviously the OTA doesn't work on unlocked bootloader.
How can I update my software? If I flash just System in fastboot will that work? Or is there some way to make the OTA work or convert the OTA into a flashable zip?
Thanks.

You can use ota update with unlocked bootloader, just root is an issue.
I would use LMSA'S Flash Rescue option
It will flash newer firmware and the you can reroot.

Or you can flash with fastboot or mfastboot

Still will need to reroot
