Bone stock 5.1.1 bootloop - Verizon Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Just bought a refurb Note 4 off ebay, no scatches on screen and negligible scuffs on body edges.
Battery was dead when I got it charged fully and then started playing with it.
After about 2 hours of use it restarted and just shows the samsung logo.
If I plug it in it will charge and boot up to Verizon logo.
Can get into recovery only when plugged into charger.
Factory reset gets me to the Welcome/Setup screen but reboots after I select English.
It only fully booted two times and restarting brought back bootloop.
My thoughts are a dud battery but I have no spare to test atm.
Thanks for reading.

Update
After flashing stock with ODIN and multiple battery pulls the only thing that worked was letting the thing sit and bootloop until the battery drained.
Phone booted up fine but will now shutdown immediately after I unplug it.
Ordering a new battery as this seems the most likely culprit.
Also when plugged into outlet I can take pictures but if I turn on flash it reboots.
Will be contacting seller about battery issue.
I used the resources available from this site for ROMS and ODIN thanks.

Resolved
Slapped in a $20 ANKER from Amazon and phone is working great!
Although nobody replied the resources were here and I am grateful.
Paid only $160 for the phone + battery.

TP2 low battery, in reboot loop

I've got a TMOUS TP2 which appears to be stuck in a reboot loop of sorts cause I can't charge the battery.
I've read through the forums and I saw a few similar problems like this but it seems like it those they were stuck at the bootloader, and that's not the case for me.
Basically the battery was down to 14% and I turned off the phone last night intending to charge it this morning. Somehow the battery dropped to 1% by the time I went to turn it on this morning, and it shutdown (really just lost power) right after I started it. So I go to plug it into the wall charger and then:
charge light comes on
after a few seconds charge light goes off
the phone tries to boot (does little vibrate, shows splash)
after the splash screen, phone loses power
charge light comes back on
then tries to boot after a few seconds.
repeat
If left unplugged the phone just sits there dead, but upon plugging it in, it tries to boot.
I've seen it where the phone doesn't have enough power to boot and just needs to be charged for a while, but I can't seem to do that here.
Anyone have any idea how to prevent it from trying to boot after the AC adapter is plugged in?
Thanks

If you're desperate...you might try doing a hard-reset.
Why would that help? I don't know...except sometimes when really stuck it helps to just change the situation...try something completely different.
Of course, a hard-reset deletes all data and applications that you've put on the phone, which is why I suggested it as a recourse if desperate.
Probably keep the phone plugged in while doing hard-reset.
Same problem, solved by itself
Hi,
I had a similar problem with a standard TP2, it was clear a battery fault. Phone was working well with a new battery and, of course, another working phone couldn't boot up with the faulty battery.
I took out the defective battery and let it aside for almost 2 weeks. After that it started to work, but the capacity is clearly smaller.
So from my experience, a hard reset wouldn't help you.

Yes, it goes without saying -- though it's good you did -- that if you have access to another battery that's an obvious thing to try first.
The hard reset is worth trying, in general, for otherwise-unresolvable phone issues.
It's a dead battery. Same exact thing you describe happened to me. Granted, it was because of water damage but same symptoms. Thinking the phone was dead I went and bought a new one. Then I decided to try the new battery, bam, phone back alive. Returned the phone and bought a new battery. By the way, the dash2 battery fits as well. Tmobile stores didn't know it... But the connectors were the same do I tried in the store and it worked.

So it was indeed a dead battery. Oddly I found someone who had a CMDA TP2 from Verizon (mine is GSM TMO), and was able to pop my battery into their phone for a minute or two and charge it to about 5%, then put it back in my phone and all was well. With their phone, plugging in the charger did not cause the phone to start up and then power cycle.
That's really weird "glitch" if you want to call it that. So mental note, don't let the battery run down too far.

[Q] How should I troubleshoot my (allegedly) battery related issues ?

... before I try to send the phone out for warranty.
Turns out, I bought a docomo samsung galaxy nexus (from negri). I have not received for a while (out of the country) but finally got my hands onto it last saturday. I booted the device, no simcard, just load the configuration. For any reason, it stayed on my desk all week discharging.
Yesterday I tried to unlock the thing and it was dead. I remove the battery, fired it up and still nothing. Then I connect the wall charger, it is from my current phone, a galaxy s2. It charged for two hours or something, i then tried to boot, but it was stuck. I performed the boot on recovery mode, and it finally solved the issues and here we go, the phone booted correctly. I unlocked the phone, just to see that the battery information is 0% and the phone just went off as I saw the power usage statistics. And this time for good, its been sitting charged but nothing happens. I tried the legacy s2 charger, my car charger, and the original nexus charger that was sent on the box.
Since is a new phone for me, I do not know how what to expect. For example, in my s2, if its charging even with a depleted battery there is this led notification. In the nexus there is nothing. No led, no on screen animation. How can I discard is just a battery issue and not a general fault in the device ? Connected to the charger, is it possible to do something with no battery ?
My intention is to discard the battery issue first, so I might bite the bullet buying a new one, because dealing with the warranty (outside the us) might be a pain.
Thanks in advance.

Help! Phone turns off when disconnecting charger.

As the title says, my device has started doing this for about a week. I can even have a fully charged battery, but if I disconnect the charger, within 5 minutes, my device screen will make some weird glitchy thing and turn off. I've tried multiple ROMs with no dice, so it's a hardware problem. I'm hoping it's just a battery issue, as I can't really afford another device at the moment. Thank you for your time.
have you tried a different charger?,
battery issue an not hardware
I had the same problem. I bought the phone from craigslist an got an awesome deal on it. got it home started playing with it an it kept doin random reboots. after awhile it just wouldnt boot back up unless i took out the battery an reinserted it. However on the charger it worked fine. luckly i had insurance, i went to the sprint store they ran "tests" an determined the phone was bad. Cool im getting a new phone. 3 days later i go to pick up the replacement. They put my old battery in the new phone an low an behold same issue, i went on amazon bought a battery for $10, a samsung oem battery btw,, an the phone is perfect, Hope my insight helps with ur issue

Battery died get a spare

So yesterday at work the phone started going crazy and bootlooping and just tons of crazy stuff. Battery was reading 60 and then 5 and .all over. I was trying to flash a nandroid thinking it was the ROM. But it was the battery as I have a new battery and everything is great.
Amazon has them for $10. I'd get a spare, your battery is due. I had to buy local for more $ yesterday.
Ha ha zerolemon hands down
I'm forced to bump this from my recent experience couldn't figure out the issue with my phone. It stopped loading passed the Samsung splash screen off the charger. Bought a new phone after so many Odin re flashes failing to fix it only to randomly try a different battery and have it boot up right away.

Yes this device has reached the elderly stage. Yes I know you can still get a new note 2 but production of new note 2's ended. The ones being sold now are left over stock. Their battery could have been on a shelf for a year or longer before the customer receives the device.
I have helped many users over the past year with this battery issue. Some had only had the device for a few months. They could boot recovery and flash things or odin stock rom. Yet it would never boot past splash screen.
The problem is this device requires a bunch of power to run. Notice that the stock charger is 2.1 amps? If you user a monitor you will see that out of the 2.1 amps your phone normally takes around 1+ amp just to run. So your battery gets whatever is left over to charge with. If you have used a cheap charger or most car chargers you will notice it takes forever to charge. Point being if battery is weak then you can't boot without extra power such as a charger connected.
So if you have not gotten a new battery recently then it is in your best interest to go ahead and get one soon. This could be an issue waiting around the corner for you.

Phone doesn't work unless charging

The phone turns on and the amazon logo pops up, as soon as that happens, the phones turns back off and this continues until the phone is connected to a charger.
when it is connected to a charger the phone works just fine.
what do?
Sound like you need to get a replacement battery. I have done two, both worked after replacement. Batteries can be found on eBay and video install instructions on YouTube.

I just ran into the same problem this morning. Phone tries to reboot, shows the amazon logo for a second then loops. If plugged in, runs fine. I too figure the battery is shot. It shows 80+% charged last time I had the phone plugged in, so if the looping is due to low power then the battery status is way off. I was having some odd behavior with battery leading up to this (sudden drops/gains in charge %). Running CyanogenMod 11.
I'm going to try and re-calibrate the battery by discharging it, fully charging it while powered off, then discharge and charge again. Since I have Safestrap recovery installed, I'm booting into that to do the discharge - it seems to stay running longer after disconnecting the charger than CyanogenMod does and the screen stays on.
Good luck to us both!
So... Don't do what I did. I drained the battery and recharged but now it won't even start the recovery screen let alone the OS. Just vibrates then reboots. If the battery is toast, then the charge indicator circuitry is probably bad I guess. At least before it would run while plugged in.

Too late, already drained the batter to recharge believing that it could be the solution. I ordered a new battery hoping a replacement will work, if not then I'm just gonna be SOL for a while. If you already replaced the battery let me know.
I changed the battery and now it works fine again!
Mine had the same issue, could it be that I used a bad car USB charger? Was using it a lot...
So, got a brocken fire phone, took the battery out and there we go, working fine now
