Help! Phone turns off when disconnecting charger. - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

As the title says, my device has started doing this for about a week. I can even have a fully charged battery, but if I disconnect the charger, within 5 minutes, my device screen will make some weird glitchy thing and turn off. I've tried multiple ROMs with no dice, so it's a hardware problem. I'm hoping it's just a battery issue, as I can't really afford another device at the moment. Thank you for your time.

have you tried a different charger?,

battery issue an not hardware
I had the same problem. I bought the phone from craigslist an got an awesome deal on it. got it home started playing with it an it kept doin random reboots. after awhile it just wouldnt boot back up unless i took out the battery an reinserted it. However on the charger it worked fine. luckly i had insurance, i went to the sprint store they ran "tests" an determined the phone was bad. Cool im getting a new phone. 3 days later i go to pick up the replacement. They put my old battery in the new phone an low an behold same issue, i went on amazon bought a battery for $10, a samsung oem battery btw,, an the phone is perfect, Hope my insight helps with ur issue

TP2 low battery, in reboot loop

I've got a TMOUS TP2 which appears to be stuck in a reboot loop of sorts cause I can't charge the battery.
I've read through the forums and I saw a few similar problems like this but it seems like it those they were stuck at the bootloader, and that's not the case for me.
Basically the battery was down to 14% and I turned off the phone last night intending to charge it this morning. Somehow the battery dropped to 1% by the time I went to turn it on this morning, and it shutdown (really just lost power) right after I started it. So I go to plug it into the wall charger and then:
charge light comes on
after a few seconds charge light goes off
the phone tries to boot (does little vibrate, shows splash)
after the splash screen, phone loses power
charge light comes back on
then tries to boot after a few seconds.
repeat
If left unplugged the phone just sits there dead, but upon plugging it in, it tries to boot.
I've seen it where the phone doesn't have enough power to boot and just needs to be charged for a while, but I can't seem to do that here.
Anyone have any idea how to prevent it from trying to boot after the AC adapter is plugged in?
Thanks

If you're desperate...you might try doing a hard-reset.
Why would that help? I don't know...except sometimes when really stuck it helps to just change the situation...try something completely different.
Of course, a hard-reset deletes all data and applications that you've put on the phone, which is why I suggested it as a recourse if desperate.
Probably keep the phone plugged in while doing hard-reset.
Same problem, solved by itself
Hi,
I had a similar problem with a standard TP2, it was clear a battery fault. Phone was working well with a new battery and, of course, another working phone couldn't boot up with the faulty battery.
I took out the defective battery and let it aside for almost 2 weeks. After that it started to work, but the capacity is clearly smaller.
So from my experience, a hard reset wouldn't help you.

Yes, it goes without saying -- though it's good you did -- that if you have access to another battery that's an obvious thing to try first.
The hard reset is worth trying, in general, for otherwise-unresolvable phone issues.
It's a dead battery. Same exact thing you describe happened to me. Granted, it was because of water damage but same symptoms. Thinking the phone was dead I went and bought a new one. Then I decided to try the new battery, bam, phone back alive. Returned the phone and bought a new battery. By the way, the dash2 battery fits as well. Tmobile stores didn't know it... But the connectors were the same do I tried in the store and it worked.

So it was indeed a dead battery. Oddly I found someone who had a CMDA TP2 from Verizon (mine is GSM TMO), and was able to pop my battery into their phone for a minute or two and charge it to about 5%, then put it back in my phone and all was well. With their phone, plugging in the charger did not cause the phone to start up and then power cycle.
That's really weird "glitch" if you want to call it that. So mental note, don't let the battery run down too far.

I think my Evo is dead

My Evo won't power on at all... no lights on when plugged in, and my PC doesn't see it either. I've tried different USB cables, and I've tried charging from a regular outlet... still nothing. I pulled the battery for about 10 minutes, and still nothing.
It was working perfectly yesterday.. even consistently getting 30+ hours on a charge. I had about 10% battery left when I went to bed.. I plugged in my USB cable before going to bed, and I remember for sure seeing the charge light come on when I plugged it in. When I woke up (late because my phone is my alarm), it was dead.
I have a friend with an Evo, and I'd like to try his battery before taking it in..gonna do that in an hour or so. I just want to do all the troubleshooting I can before taking it in to let some idiot look at it. The phone shouldn't work with the power cord plugged in, but no battery.. right? So would a completely bad battery show the same symptoms I have?
And if it is a bad phone, does anyone have any experience with Radio Shack's warranty? I bought their 1 year warranty when I bought my Evo on launch day. Should I expect to walk out with a new Evo, or should I expect a loaner phone and a wait while they ship off my Evo? Is Radio Shack going to ask or care that it's rooted? Since it doesn't power on, they can't tell in the store.. but if they ask me, I'm not sure if I can lie with a straight face.

The phone does not work just hooked up to a charger without a battery so it's completely possible that your issue is the battery and it definitely sounds like it.
I don't have any history with Radioshack's warranty but I would suggest trying your friends battery first, if that resolves the issue then when you take it in they will just replace the battery which shouldn't require them to even boot the phone.
I tried my friend's battery and it worked. Went to Radio Shack and told them what was up, and after a 30 minute phone call, they were able to give me a replacement battery. Problem is, it's not an HTC battery and it's only 1100mAh. I mentioned the difference, and was told that's all they could do for me today and if I'm not happy with the battery I can come back and they'll take care of me. Had the guy not been so nice I probably would have thrown a fit, but either way, I have a working phone now so I'm happy. And unless I misunderstood, I think my 12 month plan got reset for the battery, so if the replacement dies within a year I can get another one.

Glad to hear it went well.
I would push getting a stock battery for two reasons:
1) That's 25% smaller and thus your battery life is going to be significantly less.
2) Batteries are not all created equal and it's likely that what they gave you could be a cheapie.
I've been running one of the chinese cheapies for five months. It's a 3500 and it last all day with heavy use. I think I paid 17 dollars for it. The extended seidio I bought for my treo fried in a month.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
The battery they gave me is a Digital Energy brand. It came up for the first time at 54%. 4 hours of moderate use later, it's down to 39%. I'm going to run with it for a week and if I can make it 24 hours on a charge, I don't think I'm going to worry about it. If it can't get through a full day, I'll call and see what Radio Shack can do for me. If they give me any trouble, I'll probably just shell out the money for a good battery and keep this one as a spare.
I'll post an update once I've used this battery long enough to give it a fair review..

Just keep in mind that the battery they gave you is 27% smaller and therefore will very likely not last as long as the stock battery.
My phone did this exact same thing this morning. I even had it plugged in last night and was charging fine. When I awoke my phone was off and would not turn on. After about an hout of trying to get it to charge with no luck. I then borrowed the wifes phone to call sprint. I left the phone plugged in and what do you know as soon as the lady answers the flashing orange light comes on and after a minuit of that a steady orange light. Haven't had any problems before or after this event. But the lady at sprint told me it was the charging port and i would need to take my phone in for a replacement.
I had the same problem: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=16398845
Powered off the phone and went to bed. No sign of problems, battery life has been great, 50% charge on the phone. Woke up and it wouldn't budge. Took me a minute to figure out that it was the battery. Once I did, went to the Sprint store and they tested it, confirming it was dead. They replaced it quickly, no questions, no charge.

[Q] Can not boot

I've done lots of searching, but I haven't found anyone with this specific problem.
(Too long; didn't read it) at the bottom.
So it all started about a month ago. I plugged in my Evo 4g for the night (As the battery often lasts me a full day.) at around 10% I sleep very well and peacefully. When I wake up in the morning I notice my battery is still at 10%. "CRAP!" I thought, "Did I forget to plug it in?" So I checked everything, made sure it was plugged in, and went to class, without the phone of course. When I got back later that day, I went to my phone, and it was STILL at 10% I was freaking out. I thought my battery had died already! (At this point the phone was less than 2 weeks old.) Finally after being unable to charge, and only having 10% battery, the thing went kaput. Died. I could not for the life of me charge the phone. So I left it sitting around while I had screaming matches with not only Sprint, but the Radioshack I picked it up at. Ugh. About a week later and just as I was about to pay $100 for a new phone, I fixed it. I don't know how, or what happened. I plugged it in out of habbit, and BAM it started working. "**** YOU SPRINT!" *Hangs up phone.* I went on my marry way, being extra careful now to monitor the battery (Which was charging very normally, and lasting me a full day at little to moderate use) Then one day I was just sitting around playing videogames this past Saturday and thought "I'm not using my phone, I'll plug it in and forget about it." (The battery being at 70%.) I plugged it in and about 4 hours (And some amazing killstreaks on CoD) later, my friend called me to ask if I wanted to get lunch (He called my Evo, of course.) "Sure! I'll be right there." I hung up, closed the phone app, looked at my battery, and my heart sank. ...70% "NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!" (Read: Darth Vader) How could this happen AGAIN?! I used it for the rest of the day conserving as much juice as possible, and trying to charge it every chance I got. But alas.. it died once again. Now, nothing I've tried has worked. I pulled the battery over and over, plugged it in for hours and then tried to turn it on, tried a USB charger, and wall charger (Both HTC, the out of the box original) I tried my roomates LG chargers (USB and wall) Nothing worked! Then I was randomly pressing buttons when I held Power+Up (Which apparently is some kind of hacker-magic) and I got to a white screen! I thought I was saved! I let go of the power button to move around on the screen, or do something at all. Then nothing. It immediately went back to black. And now, it doesn't even go to the white screen anymore! So my question is, (Finally, god he rambled on forever) is there anything I can do to save my amazing phone outside of buying a new battery? Is this a known issue? Even with a new battery, would the same problem occur? And most importantly: What's causing this? Am I at error? Or is it the phone's fault?
Also, sorry for the long story, but I'm sure you get 1000 "Y MY FONE NO WERK?" And I wanted to make mine interesting, at least.
TL;DR My phone doesn't charge, tried every suggestion I could find.

This may sound really simple but......have you tried another battery?

Endless Reboot + Solution

I hooked up my TP2 to the charger after school and my phone seemed to be fine.
The battery is kinda weak these days and I should probably buy a replacement, but I haven't had anything happen quite like this...
Late in the night, I checked my phone and noticed it was in an endless loop of - vibrate, then show stock pinkish and white welcome screen (Tmobile), turn off, repeat. I vaguely remember the screen turning on and off earlier in the day, but I didn't pay much attention until now.
So, I took the SDCard out thinking it was XDAndroid messing things up, but it continued to loop on and off.
Then, I took the battery out to see if I could get it to start with just the charger. It would not. I thought this was strange, since I took the battery out while it was plugged up a few days earlier and it stayed on.
I also tried the tiny little reset button in the hopes that it would stop the loop. But of course, that didn't help.
Eventually, I pulled out my old Tmobile Dash. The old Dash booted fine yet I haven't charged it in several months. Everything about this old phone is excellent, and to this day I think it's one of HTC's finest phones.
I looked at the batteries. Same power connectors, nearly the same output. 500mAh difference between the two, but they had the same voltage. So I stuck the Dash battery into the Touch Pro 2. Unfortunately, the Dash's battery has a tiny notch on it that prevents me from using it. Looks like I could tear that off easily... but I figured it was there for a reason and looked online for solutions.
I couldn't find anything online that seemed to help.
So... I tore the little notch off of the Dash battery. It was a lot easier than I thought it would be, since it's not actually part of the battery, but instead part of the plastic wrapping around the battery.
After that I was able to line up the connectors and hold the battery in place. I didn't have to touch anything and the phone came to life.
Oh great! I thought. Then I plugged the phone to the charger and took the battery out. The phone died. I was surprised that the phone couldn't stay on as I've seen before. I tried this a few times, switching the batteries out as fast as I could.
No matter how fast I switched them, the only result would be an endless boot loop and no charge.
At least now I knew it was the battery. I had assumed it was XDAndroid (I had just installed the October kernel - which by the way is much more stable and fasterthan what's used in the July FRX07 release package).
Since Android wasn't suspect anymore, I thought I'd try booting into it with the Dash battery. Once it was done booting into Android, and with the charger connected, I took the battery out.
It stayed on.
Now I was getting somewhere!
I put the original battery back into the Touch Pro 2, put it in Airplane mode (turning off all wireless devices), and now it's charging.
It was kinda funny to see the charging levels during this process. It was at 94% with the Dash battery, then I took out the battery and it stayed there. After putting in the TP2 battery it went down gradually to 54%, and it probably sank lower before rising again. It's now at 71% I'm thinking of maybe turning it off and leaving it connected to the charger to see if it'll start with the loop again. If it doesn't start a loop, then it'll charge faster since it'll be turned off.
Long story short:
When this happens to your Touch Pro 2, it's your battery. I don't recommend fooling with a Dash battery like I did, instead, buy a stand alone battery charger like this one: http://www.amazon.com/Travel-Charge..._1_4?s=wireless&ie=UTF8&qid=1318308064&sr=1-4
Or maybe buy a brand new battery. Don't buy cell phone batteries from Amazon though, try getting it from HTC if you can.
My experience sucked, and I hope this post will be of some use to other people still using this particular phone.

Weird issues, Battery related?

I am so frustrated right now. I recently did a weekly update to the newest Slimkat rom. About 2 or 3 days after I did that I noticed my phone get extremely hot. Moments later the phone shuts off and goes to a battery screen. When I tried to turn the phone back on it would not leave this battery screen. It was plugged in to the charger at the time and when I unplugged it the phone went blank. I tried taking the battery out of the phone and letting it sit there for a couple minutes. When I put the battery back in and turned it on it wouldn't start up. I put the phone back on the charger and when I did that it looked like it was going to boot up. Before it gets into android it goes back to the battery screen. I also cannot take the phone off the charger without it powering off completely. I think the battery might be completely dead but I wanted to check to see if anybody else had any ideas. I might just order a new battery but I am not sure if that is going to help.
I just ordered a replacement battery online. Guess I will see where that leads me.
Hopefully it's the battery.
I would recommend getting a brand new OEM replacement battery.

Well crap... I just purchased an Anker battery and I am just having the same problem. I think my phone is just dead from being dropped one too many times. is there a picture of what the inside of the phone should look like? I am going to crack it open to see if I can find any visible damage.
I answered my own question
Ugh... I solved nothing and only added more questions to what the heck is going on. At this point I think i need to buy a new logic board for my s3 to fix it... Since that sounds expensive I think i am going to buy a new phone...
