When I go to Settings, then storage & USB, I see that the total storage doesn't just up to the individual spaces occupied by each section. And it's showing 10gb+ of images which is not the case as I have only 600mb of images. Is this a bug? Screenshot given for reference.

Sorry for the spaces.

My XDA 2s is reporting that 18.49mb of storage memory is being used at present and I only have the default per savebackup there after a hard reset how can I clear the Storage area?
Many thanks
I've cleared everything off the Blue Angel out of the Storage folder and even tried restoring the official O2 1.31 ROM and even on the 1st reload with just the persavebackup folder that contains just a few small files the memory applet reports that 18.49 meg of of 43mb storage area is already used? I'm sure all 43mb this area was available before?
Has anyone any idea what this could be, is there likely to be a hidden folder there I can't see? Is there a utility available for viewing hidden files? I even tried the trial version of resco explorer but it does not show anything there. Or is there a way of moving the persavebackup to the SD card so I can gain exclusive access to storage and perform a format?
Thanks for any help this is really starting to puzzle me.
I have a Sprint Touch Pro 2 with stock WinMO 6.5. Recently when trying to watch youtube vids I get an error stating "Storage Full".
I have a 4GB microSD card that I install most of my stuff on. The onboard memory shows:
OS Memory = 512MB
Total Storage = 192.80 MB
Used Storage = 185.16 MB
Free Storage = 7.65 MB
OS Program Memory = 288 MB
Total Program = 183.18 MB
Used Program = 105.80 MB
Free Program = 77.38 MB
I'm not a techie so I'm not really sure what the difference is between the OS Memory and the OS Program Memory. I've removed some of the programs from the remove program feature under the settings tab. But it hasn't freed up any space. I've soft reset the device and also ran cleanram on setting #3.
What do I need to do to free up space? I used the file explorer to see if I could locate any items bloating my storage space but had no luck.
Anyone?

theres your problem, you need to delete or uninstall things that are installed to the device, not the storage card, check in My Documents, you might have a lot to delete in there
i noticed when i sync files with my PC using activesync it tends to double up a lot of them every time i sync, so ill have this:
Ringtone.wav
Ringtone (1).wav
Ringtone (1) (1).wav
Ringtone (2).wav
also you can look in program files to see what apps are installed to the device rather than the storage card (look in \Program File\ not \Storage Card\Program Files\)

Thats the thing though. My documents really doesn't have much in it. No music, videos, ringtones, etc. There are a few stray files in the "My Documents" root that might total 100k. Is there a specific folder on the "Device" that shows the installed prgrams to internal memory? And if so is it safe to just delete the folders or should I use in uninstall feature of some type?
anything installed to the device will be installed to \Program Files\ and if there is an uninstall option use that, if not it should be ok to delete the folder if you dont use the app, i dont know what all get installed with the stock sprint rom
and on that note, it might not be a bad idea to look into custom roms, i use energy rom myself (also on a sprint TP2)
Well I went into programs files and found a few stray pieces of software that I originally downlaoded via marketplace. These did not show up in the remove prgram area of the setting menu.
I also found a temp directory that had a lot of facebook album photos cached there. That freed up a little more space. Now it shows I have 20.5MB free. I'll have to scan more directoried and see if I can find more garbage to get rid of.
Thanks.

Clear your browser cache. That helped me.

Hello everyone,
I've been trying several different roms and I found my free space dropped to 1.7 gb on the internal memory. Is there any way to make sure I get the original free space back? Like formatting the partition and flashing a Rom or something like that? I've tried wiping caches and such, but I still think I've lost like 3gb out of nowhere. Although I would like to know what the average free storage space is first.
Please help a total noob!
Thanx
I assume you haven't deleted the old roms off your phone?
If you plug it in via usb you can view the storage that way (in mac [android file transfer]/linux/win). Just delete any roms you're not using etc.
It seems that you need to erase your storage to get it back. When flashing rom we didn't do storage format, files and folder from old rom remain there. This folder could be your content like music and pictures, also some remaining app folder
If you use a Linux computer to delete files on your sdcard then check your sdcard for a .Trash directory (the name might be different, like .Trash-1000). Even though you thought you deleted some files they just got moved to .Trash and are still there taking up space. If you delete the .Trash directory it will really get rid of those files and give you more space.

You're totally right. I just deleted some old files from games I don't even have like FIFA.
When I boot up my phone, the first thing it says that there's not enough space to complete some kind of action(see attached picture below). I have more than 2GB free space on sdcard and almost 6GB free space on external sd, even in file system root I have 1gb/2gb space.
I have cm10.
what does it mean? what does it want? and why does it says that? and what "action" does it talk about??
I wouldnt care if it will be just this message, but since it started this, the phone seems to be more unstable(sometimes it loses wifi/cell signal, have to press lock button 3 times to wake up,and stuff..), so I decided to make a clean reinstall anyway, but it would be great if some of u had any ideas what causes this
I've experienced something similar. I use to mount the storage on my win7 laptop and use to copy/delete files from them. Suddenly it was not letting me copy anymore telling me that the storage is out of space and when i saw it it showed free space which got me confused.
So i went ahead and set windows to show all hidden files and OS files. On the storage there was a "recycle bin" having 1.6 gb of data . I deleted the folder and all was fine.
Maybe your's is a completely different issu,e but you can check for the above.

hm, I set it to show all hidden and "protected os files" (I have windows 8 on my netbook), but no "recycle bin" can be seen.. :S maybe I'm missing some more options to show that, or looking in the wrong place
I'm gonna be as short as possible.
I own a Nexus 5. It is the 16gb, but only has 12.55gb of available space, the rest is system.
I have about 7.6gb of occupied space. The problem is, I only have 4.25gb showing in folders [pics below] (i.d. my musics, apps, pictures, app data etc)
My question is: where the hell are these 3.35GB of space?? I've already used a bunch of file explorers, root explorers, drive management.
I can only find 4.25gb on the pc also.
Does anyone know what is it? How do I delete it? Anyone have been through the same?
I know it doesn't sound a lot, but 3,35GB is more than 25% of all my usable storage.
Thank you.

Do you use CWM recovery? Do you have nandroids? PA doesn't use space on /data partition which is what you see
The app 'DiskUsage' will give you more data about where your space is.
