Music files to root folder - Nexus 5X Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Seeing that around 2GB of my root folder is free, I copied some mp3 files within a new folder in root. After a restart, I see that my files are no longer there. Is it normal?

File manager copied files without any issues. After a restart they get removed.

once again, you don't provide much information. it wouldn't be too surprising, and in this case my first guess, that the filemanager you are using is displaying wrong information based on its assumption that the transfer was successful. this could cause the wrong (cached) list of files to be loaded each time, unless the phone gets restarted…

I am using below file manager. Files get copied fine as I played them after copying

The initial root file system is a RAM disk. If you create folders or add files to /, they are wiped-out after a reboot. You could hack the RAM disk to add your folder but it would be easier to just create a file in /system and plop your music files in there.

[Q] reinstall connections setting app

Hi,
I accidentally uninstalled the connections setting app that came with me Gio. I installed a few other connection settings app but I like the original one the best and I would like to know where I can obtain a copy of it. Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks in advance,

The app is the blue and white gear style wheel that is second from the right on the bottom row that says settings under it. Let me know if this is sufficient or otherwise I will find another image of it.
Thanks,

Thanks for the file. Unfortunately I don't use windows. I use Linux which allows me to see the sdcard but not anything else. I copied the file onto the sdcard and then tried to use terminal commands to move it but it failed. I also tried installing a few different file manager apps which ask me to install the file but end up failing also. Any ideas?

If you use terminal, you problably have root acces.
Search market, or google, because I cant post it here.
Search ROOT EXPLORER, install it, give it root acces, and copy the file to /system/app then install it and reboot.

Instsll first then place it to /system/app and reboot

I tried doing that but I every time I try to install root explorer always says "application not installed". I used root explorer 2.16 if that helps any.

Media library is empty

Both music and gallery library are empty. What I tried so far:
Clearing data from media storage
Forcing a resync with some app
Looking for a .nomedia folder with ES file explorer, no result
Flashing(without formating) the rom over itself
What are my next option? I'd like not to have to format it, but if I have no choice I will. Thanks
did you update rom manager?
if so, look for the .nomedia file on the root of /sdcard/

Try uninstalling ROM Manager updates then clear media data and reboot. Wait about 30 minutes.

I have this same issue. I even did a full wipe and flashed another ROM.
What did you do to fix it?
There was to many threads like this... sigh
Next time, do a search before posting
Solution:
Update to latest Rom manager
Delete .nomedia file from sdcard root directory, nothing else.
Clear Media Storage data
Reboot
Done
Media Storage looks like the screen shot

No, that one is suppose to be there. Also, in the previous steps after you reboot, you have to give it about 10 minutes or so to populate the media storage before you do anything.

Yes your right, but from what I've heard, it's not a big of a deal, because apparently android system creates the nomedia file again later on.

Polaris Office 4.0

My friend extracted those files from his Galaxy S3 and sent them to me. I modified to make it work on Galaxy Nexus without the water mark that says "Your device is not supported by the lib". Here are instructions:
+ Extract Polaris Office 4.0.rar -> open "Polaris Office 4.0" folder -> open "app" and "lib" folders
+ Copy all files in those folders to your SD card
+ Open Root Explorer
+ Copy PolarisOffice.apk to /system/app and set permission to rw-r--r--
+ Copy libpolarisoffice4.so, libpolaristextprint.so, libtfapps-polaris.so, libtflua-polaris.so to /system/lib and set permission to rw-r--r--

It looks like even with the polaris libraries there is still another Samsung library being called
after copying the Samsung LIBs it still FCs when attempting to reference android.sec.clipboard.clipboardexmanager
which appears to be referenced 60 times in 6 files of the PolarisOffice4 code.
we'd either need to find a way to implement this on the non Samsung ROMs, or remove these references in the code and hope it doesn't break it too bad.
Found this on other forum could it be the problem?

[How To] Permanent Chrome or Chrome Beta Desktop View

Root is required. This will enable full time desktop view in Chrome or Chrome Beta. I do not take credit for making this mod, it's something I've been using for quite a while and thought others might enjoy it. Just move the attached file into data/local (not the data folder in internal storage but the system folder). Make sure the file is named "chrome-command-line" without any file extension or quotes. Change permissions to: rw- r-- r-- and then reboot.
If you are using ES File Manager turn on Root Explorer and Show Hidden Files by hitting the button on the top left. Then hit the drop down menu and select "device" then you should see the data folder.

How to define the path of an external card

Hello
I installed an application that gives me the option to install its database on a path of my choice.
So I would like to install it on the external memory but I can not set the path to the external memory.
Knowing that the default path is / sdcard / My application. This makes the database to be installed in the internal memory.
I tried /storage/extSDCard/ but I get the message 'no such directory'.
My phone is S4 mini Duos i9192

Ok, how about create a folder and point to there? Example create a folder called "Myfile" than use /storage/extSDCard/Myfile/ <-- give it a shot. If it still not working, them it most likely the app itself or Kernel/rom related issue.

I need someone who has galaxy s4 mini and try himself on his phone.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=tool.offline.translation.dictionary&hl=fr
In fact the application is small and looks like 'google translate'. I can move the application to the sd card without difficulty.
the problem is that once the application is installed, I have to download language packages which are a bit big.
By default, the application installs these packages in the internal memory. But it gives me the option to change the path to another directory.
What I seek is to define a path that will allow the application to install these packages in the external sd card.
thanks
