Verizon and the OnePlus 3? - OnePlus 3 Questions & Answers

Howdy!
So I've read that the OnePlus 3 is not compatible with Verizon, but if you look at the bands it's only missing Band 13. Wouldn't the others still work?
Thanks!

I will report on July 1 when my opo arrives.

Verizon's primary band is Band 13 (700c) according to this website below.
http://www.phonearena.com/news/Chea...on-T-Mobile-and-Sprint-use-in-the-USA_id77933

Maybe the band will become editable by a rom. But who knows

700mhz B13 is not really a "primary" band it just happens to be what Verizon first launched.
I highly doubt that we will see 700 B13 on the OPO3. Vzw is rumored to be rolling out B2 1900 but I'm not sure if it's officially launched in any markets. There is also the fact that vzw uses CDMA BC0 800mhz, which if I read the specs correctly is supported by the OPO3.
All this being said I doubt the OPO3 will work fully supported by vzw.
Of course there are some brilliant people in the xda community who can probably shed some more light on the subject.

It will work with Verizon 3G I saw in a review video. Not LTE tho.
Sent from my VK815 using XDA-Developers mobile app

It has LTE bands 2 and 4, thus if VZW has LTE bands 2/4 in your area then it should work. I'm having issues getting the LG-H830 working, but it doesn't have CDMA. It connects to band4 in my area but no icon, since I believe it needs CDMA for auth.
I haven't tried this yet but you may be able to add band 13
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s5/general/how-to-add-rf-lte-frequency-bands-to-t2886059

Do you think a call to VZW customer care would allow one to know what bands are in an area? You'd obviously need to get an upper level service tech on the line...but could they tell you?

I would say waste of time based on my experiencettalking to them. Better off using apps to figure it out. If you don't have Verizon, just visit the store nearest to you and install LTE Discovery on a display phone.

Why would it not work on LTE? It supports bands 2 and 4. If your area is VZW band 13 only then yeah it won't get 4g signal.
Sent from my rooted and BL unlocked LG-H830 using XDA-Developers app

Surprisingly Skizzy034 is correct, 3G (eHRPD) works. I had to enable data roaming first, but I can make/receive calls, sms, mms, and cellular data.
I've also been able to force a connection to LTE. However, when I do this sms, mms and calls don't work (data only).
Basically there is no transition between 3G and 4G.
I've messed around with the build.prop to see if I can get the phone to treat 4G as the preferred connection and only use 3G for sms, mms, and calls but I havent made any progress.
I'm confident that with help from the dev community we can actually get this thing working fairly well on vzw.

Did you pull the VZW apn xml file from a VZW phone and swap out yours? I can send if needed. I would like to buy OP3 and I use Verizon, so I'm definitely interested in what you're trying to accomplish.
What do you mean by forcing LTE? Setting RAT to LTE only?
Sent from my rooted and BL unlocked LG-H830 using XDA-Developers app

The APNs appear to have auto configured (attached a screenshot).
When I say "forced into LTE" I have manually changed the RAT to LTE only. This only appears to only work consistently on CM based roms. I did get OOS to lock onto LTE once but I've not been able to do it again.

If you set RAT to auto do you get both CDMA and LTE? On stock vzw phones, it seems multi APNs are used (VZWIMS and vzinternet)
Were you able to unlock band 13 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s5/general/how-to-add-rf-lte-frequency-bands-to-t2886059)? What LTE band are you connected to? LTE Discovery app from play store can provide that info if you need.
Have you tried:
telephony.lteOnCdmaDevice=1
ro.telephony.default_network=10 ro.cdma.home.operator.alpha=Verizon ro.cdma.home.operator.numeric=311480 gsm.sim.operator.alpha=Verizon gsm.sim.operator.numeric=311480 gsm.operator.alpha=Verizon gsm.operator.numeric=311480
Sent from my rooted and BL unlocked LG-H830 using XDA-Developers app

I have not tried any of those things.
I'm hesitant to bother with attempting to unlock band 13. I spent a lot of time working on that on my opo1 and didn't work.
But I'm willing to give it a shot. I'm on vacation and don't have access to a PC so gonna be a few days. But I can apply the build.prop edits in the next few hours.

I made the build.prop edits you suggested jhasty01. Unfortunately they had no effect.
I'm going to work on unlocking Band13. Because I'm a market that is almost 100% covered by Band4 it is difficult to tell if Band13 is actually working. Perhaps I could disable Band4 but I'm hesitant.
I'm really hoping some of the devs who have worked with RIL can land a hand.
The larger obstacle is getting the RAT to conditionally handoff.

Any updates? Hoping so, would like to buy!

Some possibly helpful information from https://forums.oneplus.net/threads/trying-to-get-op3-working-on-verizon.452925/
Not sure if this is the case for Verizon but it is a known issue for ATT customers have LTE connection issues.
CAUSE: The IMEI for both sim slots are listed to only be set to receive 2G (H), hspa network. So if you contacted your service provider and registered your sim card with either of OP3 IMEI's, then you will not get LTE.
WORKAROUND: get your service provider to put your IMEI back to a previous phone that had LTE service.
NOTE: I had the same issue because I had to get a new Sim card because I went from a microsim to a nanosim. You access your phone information, by dialing *#*#4636#*#*. It will show your "Network type" only as hspa instead of LTE. There is no way to force it to LTE on your end, you have to contact your service provider.

Make sure you enabled roaming!

*Update*
Using qpst+qdxm I attempted to set radio/modem to prefer vzw bands and possibly enable B13. I was able to make the changes but the NVRAM resets to default values after power cycling. There is an NVRAM patch for the OnePlusOne which I flashed but it did not play well with the OPO3 and resulted is reboots and black screens. I tested all this on one of the recent CM builds.
I modified the build.prop to force "LTE only" (ro.telephony.default_network=11). Since I use Google Voice/Hangouts for calls and text I can make due.
I have reached out to @Mentor.37 who has been helping patch CDMA phones with GSM caoabilities to work better on GSM networks. He understands what the goal is and said mid-late August he should be able to help. @jhasty1 I only get 3G/eHRPD when roaming is enabled. No matter what ROM the RAT will not automatically transition from 3G44G. I have tried almost every ROM and modified what I thought might help with in the build.prop.
@jhasty1, as for the thread you mentioned (https://forums.oneplus.net/threads/trying-to-get-op3-working-on-verizon.452925/) there is a lot of conflicting information. There are many who say the OPO3 will not work on VZW. Well it is working, I'm using it to write this. I also had the OPO1 working on VZW using B4 LTE data.
As it stands, unless forced into "LTE only" the default RAT is 3G/eHRPD.
If we get some dev support I believe the phone could work very well.
---------- Post added at 02:40 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:25 PM ----------
I've been able to attach to LTE on bands 2,4 and 5. Now as far as I know vzw has not began using band 5. I think what's happening is I'm roaming on att for some reason.

[Q] Verizon HTC ONE can't add new APN

hi, I have verizon htc one running on stock 4.4.3, sense 6.0. I want to use it in europe on gsm network, voice and text works perfectly, but I can not use data because I can't add new APN. there is not options to add new one in access point names. when press on three dots just comes up "reset to default". so what should I do now?
I would call vzw to unlock your SIM, then plug in a prepaid SIM from a local European carrier.

found, I should enter mcc mnc codes, thanks
I have this same issue. I was already overseas, and couldn't add or edit the APN I needed to use for O2.
I've called Verizon multiple times and they say "it's already unlocked" over and over again.
Is there anybody out there with a Verizon HTC One and is able to edit the APN data? If so, what did you do to get the phone to allow you to do that?
same here. using a Verizon HTC One (M7) on Rogers network in Canada. i cannot edit the existing APN or add a new one at all. i am connected to the internet, but it shows an 'E' instead of '4G', and it's very slow. any work arounds?
also, when i try changing Network Preferences and adding Rogers' MNC, (302720), it tells me my Network Preferences list is full and won't save anything when, in fact, it's actually completely empty! any ideas?

Does Rogers use LTE band 13? If not, you will not get 4G. As for HSPA/3G for GSM, the phone only has 900 and 2100 mhz for it. So if your carrier doesn't support those frequencies, you are stuck on edge (E).
http://www.htc.com/us/smartphones/htc-one-m7/
Specs tab shows the frequencies I discussed that the phone can support.
Edit: I also put this info on our Q&A thread.
Q2: can I SIM unlock this phone for other carriers?
The m7wlv comes SIM unlocked out of the box. It only works on certain frequencies. See if your carrier supports the below frequencies.
CDMA: 800/1900MHZ,
UMTS/HSPA: 900/2100MHz,
GSM/GPRS/EDGE: 850/900/1800/1900MHz,
LTE: 700MHz (Band 13)(only Verizon uses this LTE band thus far)

Did you go to network preferences and click add....then click operator list. Scroll down the monster list and add Rogers wireless? Once you add it you need to reboot for the apns to autopopulate. With the new way of doing it they autopopulate.

here (as you can see, the list is empty, but it's telling me that it's full!):
and when i add Rogers Wireless by entering the MCC / MNC manually, i'll get this:
and going back to the previous page gives this message:
also, i cannot edit or add any APNs at all.
i'm sure it's the phone. is it SIM locked? (it shouldn't be given that it's from Verizon, but i got it as a replacement from Verizon because my first one had a faulty GPS, and it was refurbished.)
any ideas?

When you click add.. don't click add network code. Click operator list.
i didn't click on anything. that's the window that pops up when i go t Network Preferences List. i cannot do anything else.
i really think it's a phone software issue (the same phone, using a Verizon SIM card, was able to connect to Rogers' 3G network while roaming)...something must have messed up the software. funny thing is that with the Verizon SIM card, i could look at the operator list and add/edit the APN and all that.
is there any way, short of a factory reset, to revert the settings back? could it be that the phone is really SIM locked?
Having the exact same problem
I'm having the exact same problems as those described above... I am on a fully stock Verizon M7 with the latest official release. Not rooted.
- cannot add new apn.... Option missing from he apn menu
- when i attempt to edit the existing apn, all i can do is edit one line... The apn itself. All other lines are grey and will not allow me to change the settings.
- with a non Verizon sim in the phone i was also having the " network list full" errors described above...
I was in Europe with Lebara mobile sim and was able to get on 3g but it was unstable as apn settings were incorrect and not editable. I was in the UK on a 3 mobile sim and all was the same. Now back in the US, the same problems above with apn add/edit are still there though my "available networks" settings are behaving normally with the Verizon sim in there.
IT must be something wacky with this build or Sense 6 as my GF is also on Verizon and her Razr Maxx had none of the above problems as she travelled with me with the same carrier sim cards as i was using.
yeah, it's very annoying. maybe we should contact Verizon to figure out what's going on.

I have an HTC One with the exact same problem. It won't let me put in the proper settings to activate mobile data on the Mexican Telcel network. It was a Verizon phone which is unlocked and will do voice and text but since the APN settings are not allowed to be edited it is not data capable. I'm in Mexico for a few months and this is ridiculous. According to Verizon "of course your phone is unlocked. We haven't sold locked phones in years." I guess they aren't locked now they are disabled or crippled when you try to take them to other networks. BTW this isn't just a problem of us not knowing how to input APNs, this is the problem of the phone not allowing editing at all. Very, very frustrating. Especially when you find out that root is almost impossible when it has the latest over the air update.
Factory Reset Doex Not Fix This
Confirming that factory reset does not fix this. So don't waste your time... Ih yeah, and HTC backup and restore service is down until further notice... Another fun surprise
Maybe I'm wrong but I thought you needed to be boot loader unlocked and s off to edit the apn and mcc list since they are system level files. You need read/write ability for the system in order to do that which requires root.

US998 Hidden Menu LG V30/V30+

EDIT: If the dialer code doesn't work for you, see this post for another way to access the Hidden Menu.

US998 Hidden Menu LG V30/V30+
So, I went looking for the hidden menu dialer code for the US998 LG V30.
https://www.reddit.com/r/tmobile/comments/75tbsc/lg_v30_and_others_engineering_menu/
*#546368#*998#
That's a different menu, and doesn't provide the band locking option and you can break your CA and LTE combos if click the wrong thing. Just wondering if that code works. You can get to the Engineering Mode, though.

Found it. Literally you copy and paste this code into your dialer. Do not hit "call". Once you paste it in, the menu instantly pops up.
Unlike for the T-mobile variant, it doesn't let you checkmark off all the bands you want -- at least with AT&T Prepaid, which I have. I think the bands it shows it dependent upon the SIM card you have in your phone.
I was able to click each LTE band my phone IS showing and with one exception (LTE band 30), a box popped up and "Success". Whatever that means.
I think if I had AT&T postpaid it might show more bands. (AT&T Prepaid doesn't allow domestic roaming, but does have roaming in some other countries.) Or if I had T-mobile it might show different bands, like even LTE band 66. Since I have AT&T Prepaid -- with no U.S. roaming -- it's not going to show me a band I'll never use? At least that's my working theory. While the dialer code is the same, possibly options are different depending carrier/SIM card
You can also go into the Service Menu and turn off MOISTURE DETECTION. Just an FYI for those who need to know that.
I did go into the some of the VoLTE/Wi-Fi calling settings. While VoLTE was already enabled, VoWifi (Wi-Fi calling was not). I enabled it. As an AT&T Prepaid customer, we don't get that yet, and I don't really need it. (I have Google Voice.) But I checkmarked it to enable all that. Didn't seem to break my phone.
I took some screenshots to get into the LTE bands menu, but I didn't take screenshots of the other stuff. Of course, be careful! You can break functionality.

LTE BANDS on AT&T Prepaid
Okay anybody know how to get the LTE band selector back to automatic? Apparently clicking on one of the bands chooses only that band. I am stuck on band 12 which is prevalent in the Atlanta area, but I would like all bands.
By clicking on band 30, I had no LTE whatsoever . I had to click on band 12 to get some LTE signal.
In that menu, I do not see a method to choose a batch of bands. I only see a method to choose one band at a time. Whereas before I mess with the menu I had several bands automatically depending upon signal strength.
I rebooted my phone, hoping the band selector was only for that one session . But still I'm only seeing LTE band 12. I don't want to reset my phone. This got to be away to make it go back to automatic.

A slightly different code for the AT&T version of V30
The code didn't work on my AT&T version, BUT!!!!!! ........ I noticed how the last 3 digits correspond to the unlocked version and substituted them with 931 which corresponds to H931/AT&T phone version and voila!! I get into the hidden menu.
So for AT&T version of V30 the code is *#546368#*931#
Enjoy!
The menu looks a bit different though e.g. band selection is not there

I'm still concerned I may have done something to prevent my LTE bands from automatically switching properly. I've been on LTE Band 2 for two days now and only LTE band 2. Normally traveling to and from work (30 miles down I-75 and across I-285 perimeter) I'll switch bands, according to LTE Discovery app.
But today I'm heading into north Georgia where LTE band 4 is prevalent, so we'll see...
reposting here also as it's very relevant to the US998 hidden menu.

Hey All,
I unfortunately messed around with the LTE Band Settings on my US 998 (US Cellular) in the hidden menu and am now worried that the phone is locking to specific bands. Right now, no matter how many times I reset network settings and restart the phone, it will only lock to one band (12 or 4). The lock is dependent on which LTE Band Setting I select. Anyone know where in the hidden menu I can reset the band selection? Any help would be appreciated.

Please tell me exactly what you did to fix the problem? When you factory re-set, did you allow Google to restore your data and apps? I really don't want to do a factory reset if I don't have to.
I've already tried airplane mode, as well as chosen other bands (I stick on them unless I re-select LTE band 2.) As well as rebooted multiple times daily.
I've been stuck on LTE band 2 for 4 days now. I selected LTE bands in that hidden menu and it stays only on the one chosen. Before that I was stuck on LTE band 12, but 2 is better than 12 if I have to be stuck on one.

Unfortunately that doesn't help. It's the US998 menu. You click it, it chooses that band. You click another it chooses THAT band and only that band. It stays in the last band you chose and only that band.
I can select another band besides band 2, but I would then be just choosing another band to be stuck on. I did that initially when I was stuck on band 12. Now I'm stuck on band 2, which is better than being stuck on LTE band 12 in the Atlanta metro area.
I went up to North Georgia last weekend where AT&T LTE band 4 is prevalent, and I was on WEAK LTE band 2 the most of the time, and then on HSPA. I never switched to LTE band 4.
That's why I asked the guy exactly what he did to fix it. He said factory reset, but I would like his details. I don't want to completely reset my phone for nothing. If only a true factory reset will fix it, I'll wait until next weekend when I don't need my phone during the daytime.
Also, did he allow Google to restore data and apps?

Has anyone found a solution to this? I have tried a factory reset and it did not solve the issue. I also tried a couple things such as changing the RAT Selection to WCDMA ONLY (since VZW) and then LTE ONLY and then to LTE/WCDMA but that results in no service at all whereas I at least have service with WCDMA ONLY or LTE ONLY.
I imagine there should be a simple way to fix this as it is literally just disabling bands in the modem...it is just a matter of figuring out how.

Hey Chazz, sorry for the delay. I have notifications turned off. But yes, I had to do a factory reset from scratch. I didn't restore any settings and started with a clean slate. I then used LTE discovery to see myself connecting to different bands. Toggling airplane mode showed band 4 and 12.

Thanks for the answer. The V30 with the problem is now my backup phone, as I'm using a V30+ as daily phone. I didn't dare touch this menu on that one or my wife's V30.
I have reset that first phone, but it no longer has a SIM card in it. Maybe next weekend I take it for a drive...

Yeah, the US998 needs the T-Mobile hidden menu, where you can select all the bands you wish, not just one at a time. Very strange design choice from LG.
There is an option in the hidden menu to reset networks. Did you see that? Maybe that's what needs to be chosen?

If factory reset doesn't work, then flashing this probably won't. I don't know for sure. However, in that same hidden menu mode, I saw network reset choices. Not in the LTE bands section, but a neighboring section.

Hmmm... very strange. I know I saw something before, but I can't find exactly what I remember.
Anyway, I see the R&D Factory Reset in the Hidden Menu. Is that some kind of super duper re-set? I don't know. It's in the Hidden Menu for a reason.
I also see Network Settings Reset in the the regular Settings menu. I don't have a SIM card in this phone, but if I did would it re-set ALL my network settings?

I think the Network Settings Reset in the regular settings menu is already covered by the factory data reset. Thanks for getting back to us though. I'm not entirely sure if Factory Data Reset worked for me or not. T-Mobile around where I live is mostly Band 4. I've looked through cellmapper for towers that had band 2 and were spotted recently, and as I drove by them I didn't notice my phone connecting to anything other than band 4.

had tried R&D Factory Reset, failed to fix the messing up in the hudden menu.
Ive got a H931 that was a test phone that has the USERDEBUG imprint on the LG home screen. Was able to access the hidden menu. Anyone know what setting to alter to remove the USERDEBUG imprint from home screen?
Anybody know if there's a way to turn on advanced hd voice calling in this menu? Under phone settings the option is greyed out for me and appears to be off

Anyone using Sprint LG G8 on T-Mobile?

Got a great deal on an unlocked Sprint LG G8. Have a few annoying issues that are really bothering me.
I am unable to send and receive photos in text messages. I followed all the instructions to update the APN to be compatible with Tmobile.
Called T-Mobile and they put the IMEI number into their system and played with the settings on their end. They assured me that the photos in sms messages should be going through without issues.
I assume that there no chance to flash Tmobile LG G8 firmware on my LG G8? I was able to do that on my Galaxy S7 Edge. I would like to get wifi calling too. So many issues that are just annoying. One would think LG wouldn't mind letting people flash carrier based firmwares like Samsung does, especially considering that they are struggling with sales and need more customers.
I bought a refurb Sprint Unlocked for my GF to use on ATT. Just got it today and popped my TMO sim in. Didnt call them for anything, let the APNs auto populate and tested the following:
4GLTE+ icon comes up just like on my OnePlus 7 Pro, same # of bars/ signal strength
Calls - even with VOLTE enabled, the indicator says 3G when you make a call (assuming data goes to 3g like it would on sprint on a call but who knows)
VM- Stupid VM and Caller ID app dont work (sprint), but it dials to VM when you hold 1 key
SMS- works fine- sent a msg to a Verizon #
MMS- works fine- sent a pic to an email address
Internet- no issues , didnt do a speed test
Are you able to use LTE Band 71 on T-Mobile using your unlocked Sprint LG G8?
This has been talked about already in another thread but what you do is type ##data# and a menu pops up go tap on the apn and select view. On the top right you see the 3 dots click on it and reset that should do the trick. The reason for not being able to send picture is because the apn cant be edit so the apn is auto and is correct but not the mmsc part.

Tried this after manually entering a few variants of the Tmobile APN settings from Google, at least for me, didn't work. Not sure if other people have had better luck.
Seems like some of the MMS related APN config defaults to sprint urls. SMS, Data, and voice seems fine though.

Yep, I get the sense that the fact the resetting the apn settings from the ##data# menu results in Sprint data populating into some fields and remaining uneditable.. is part of the problem. But can't find a workaround.
The reason I asked was because when i stuck my cricket sim in my sprint g8 the apn were automatic push to the apn settings and i could text and web but couldnt send mms pictures. So i went into the ##data# menu and looked at the apn setting which was correct but when i looked at the mmsc setting it was sprints like yours. After I reseted the apn to default i went back to look at the mmsc and to my amazement it was changed to aiowireless. after i was able to send pictures. Do you have your sim in there? Can you call tmobile to push the apns to you?

That's very good to hear. Were you able to test if 3G/4G HSPA(+) also works for data as it should? You should be able to find the option to use that instead of LTE by going to Settings->Wireless & Networks->Mobile Network->Preferred network type then select GSM only. Then browse the internet and maybe do a speed test--if you have at least 4/5 bars of 4G HSPA+ download speeds should be anywhere from 6-14Mbps. Myself and a few other people have been wondering since that's what you fall to if you don't have a good LTE signal so would greatly appreciate if you could check.
I'm having some disappointing results with the Sprint LG G8 on T-Mobile (Mint) in my home, and wondering if anyone has any experience that might help.
I was able to get data working without any issue after running ##data# and resetting the APN settings, but actual phone call functionality is a different story.
85%+ of the time I'm in my home I'm unable to place outgoing calls and when called my phone goes directly to voicemail. This is despite having decent to good T-Mobile LTE coverage. The obvious conclusion is that I'm getting spotty UMTS signal and/or the phone is not switching effectively between the two radio technologies.
To get any calling at all I had to switch the radio mode to "LTE/UMTS auto (PRL)" in the service menu accessed by *#*#4636#*#* but this also unchecks the VoLTE provisioning slider. When calling works anywhere, the signal icon changes from LTE to 3G.

I appreciate the reply! I tried this and it's about the same for me unfortunately (which is to say, not really working) I did notice that it says voice connection and data connection are both LTE, and I wonder if that's part of the issue.
I have another device that natively works with VoLTE and WiFi Calling on T-Mobile and it works very well in my home, it's just a shame this phone isn't quite there.
I can't make calls via lte or volte. it switches to 3g but at least now it always receives and makes calls.

3. Click on service number center and ensure it is the correct number for your carrier. If I'm not mistaken yours should read "+12063130004". If the number is different then change it to this one.
Found this on reddit. It reset the apn and get a new one. Now i am able to sent and receive mms.
Try ##SCRTN# on one device and see if it fixes it.
(It erases cellular programming and should reactivate automatically after a few minutes)

Any one manage to get WiFi calling to work? I have a Sprint unlocked phone on mint and wifi calling is the one thing I am missing.
im using the phone with Mint , TMO mvno, and mms send/receive fine. It used fast.t-mobilẹcom APN

Anyone figure out how to get VoLTE working on T-Mobile? I did find it in what of the hidden menu's I think it was under the ##DATA# > IMS or something like that but it was greyed out for me and couldnt change it.

OnePlus 7T Global ROM - Voice over Wifi (vowifi)

I've been looking all over the Internet about enabling Voice over WiFi on the 7T with the Global ROM. I've found several sites talking about the 7T Pro or 7 Pro, and I've tried those techniques and was able to get the voice over WiFi setting to show up, but when I toggle it on, it is turned off again the next time I enter the Sim menu. I've verified with Verizon that Voice over WiFi is turned on for my phone, my phone is registered in their DMD, so everything should be good on their end. It just seems to be an issue with my ROM not allowing me to use it. I apologize if this has been answered but I couldn't find one for the 7T that matched my situation.
Alternately, this was originally a T-Mobile phone that I converted to the Global ROM. How would I go about converting this phone to the regular US ROM (from here, for example) to see if that would fix my issue? I don't really *need* the Global ROM, I just installed it because that's what the conversion guides to get off the T-Mobile ROM prescribed.
I wouldn't expect the us rom to work for your issue if the global one does not. I'd also note that I find vowifi with it to be finicky without any display on why it might be failing. I have 2 sims in mine, and its well known now that one can't get vowifi working without the primary data sim being the sim you want to do vowifi. but even when I do that (and even set primary calling sim to the tmobile one), it more often than not, doesn't connect via wifi (i.e. pop up the icon). It has worked (i.e. I have been able to get the icon and place calls while in airplane mode to the US while overseas), but it hasn't proven to be reliable. Then again, it wasn't reliable either with just a t-mobile sim and the t-mobile rom. I just wish there were some logs that would say what was failing.

What process did you follow to get yours working?
I don't have verizon, as I noted. as I said, I would play around, set primary data and calling sims to the # I wanted for vowifi. Put it in airplane mode, turn on wifi. sometimes that would force the vowifi to come on / sometimes not. take it out of airplane mode. sometimes that did it hen the previous step did not, sometimes not. rinse and repeat.
I mostly gave up on it for now. The only US number I give out is my google voice # anyways, so it doesn't make a huge difference.

I only have one sim, so I don't think the issue is with it not knowing which is the primary. I tried the airplane mode trick but it just said I had no connection to dial. The issue with me is until I did the little hack shown here: (https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/guide-enable-volte-vowifi-on-all-devices-no-root.4105817/), I never even had the VoWiFi option, but even when I got it, it wouldn't stay enabled. I was thinking the US ROM would help because I am in the US and my carriers are all in the US. I felt like the Global ROM maybe wasn't compatible with Verizon or something.
Bonus question: Is there an easy way to search within a single thread on this forum? I can only find how to search all the forums and it makes it difficult to zero in on information.
Verizon DOES NOT support VoWiFi on the 7T. So far as I know they do not allow vowifi over their network on any non-verizon branded phone.
VoWiFi turns on, fails to get the proper authorization from Verizon to use their network, turns back off.
Even with the 1+ 8, the VZW model is the only one with vowifi on their network. I was told that it was due to “security concerns” since non-vzw phones didn't go through VZW testing.

Thank you for the Search help, of course it requires clicking the button I'm so used to typing and hitting enter I don't even click those anymore.
On the Verizon VoWiFi, I wonder if results may vary on that, because they had told me it was enabled for my IMEI. Of course, that is largely dependent on the rep you get, I'm sure. But at minimum, I'd at least like to have the option to try it. Plus when I travel abroad, I would like to be able to turn it on for other carriers there as well. I did find another route that involves using PDC to manually enable it, but I'm going to have to root the phone for that. I'm not using the phone yet, so now is the time to play with it I appreciate your answer though, it may be for nothing, but I've got the mind of an engineer, you can't tell us no
I was unable to get either VOWIFI or SMS to work when I bought my unlocked 1907 7t (with global rom from factory) to work on Verizon. (Despite all the guides to do as such)
I both messaged them on their platform and called several times. Every time was same shtick. Them: "Phone doesn't support all features" Me: "Yes it does, has all bands, please add IMEI to database and turn on cdma-less provisioning" Them "Ok, hold please..." 5 min later... "Ok it should enable within 24 hours...when should we call you?" Me: "Same time tomorrow is fine" Them: "Ok, then"...24 hours later... no call, I call, repeat, no change.
They honestly just lie/yes man you to appease you until you give up/satisfied with their programmed responses. They have no intention of going out of their way in any technical capacity (Esp. if you're prepaid) and being forthcoming with their policy to only activate "Verizon Phones" on their network will never deliver a technical reason (this band/that band, etc...) This was not the first time I've had to attempt technical workarounds (on another global unlocked LG phone) , which also failed (on their end). They are an incredibly dishonest company imho.
So I got a T-mobile sim and it works great! (vowifi perfect!) I keep the old Verizon one in the second sim slot, just in case I want to punish myself at some point in the future ;0
See, my SMS works fine. That's why I say it seems to depend on the rep you get. I'm just really curious if I could get around the carrier block OnePlus has apparently put in place for VoWiFi (per their customer service), if I could get it working still.

There is some sort of certification or something baked into VZW phones that their network looks for when you try to connect via VoWiFi. If that is missing VZW's network will not let you connect even if customer service ”activated” it.
It's not a carrier block 1+ put in place, it's a “not VZW certified” block that Verizon put in place.

Possibly. But it's a separate setting from the preferred network toggle; it's right under APN at the bottom of the Mobile network menu.
It's been an option on my P6P for a while (maybe the whole time), but I never knew why it's be useful.

EFF praises Android’s new 2G kill switch, wants Apple to follow suit
Ron Amadeo 01/14/2022 1:35 pm Categories:Tech
The Electronic Frontier Foundation is celebrating Google's addition of a 2G kill switch to Android 12. The digital rights group has been campaigning against the dated, insecure 2G cellular standard since 2020, and Android is the first mobile OS to take the group's advice and let users completely disable 2G.
In the US, carriers shut down 2G years ago, and the 3G shutdown is already underway. Phones have not really gotten the message, though, and modems still try to connect to any nearby 2G signals automatically. The problem is that 2G is very old, and it's a lot like connecting to a WEP-secured Wi-Fi hotspot—the security is obsolete, so it's easy to crack. If you're in a country where legitimate uses of 2G are long dead, the standard only serves as an attack vector via fake cell phone towers, so why not just shut it off?
The EFF explains the issues:
There are two main problems with 2G. First, it uses weak encryption between the tower and device that can be cracked in real time by an attacker to intercept calls or text messages. In fact, the attacker can do this passively without ever transmitting a single packet. The second problem with 2G is that there is no authentication of the tower to the phone, which means that anyone can seamlessly impersonate a real 2G tower and a phone using the 2G protocol will never be the wiser.
This isn't to say that non-2G signals are "secure." They are less insecure, but you still shouldn't trust the cellular network. The best practice is to encrypt everything. This is generally the default for web communications, but depending on how your carrier and phone are set up, carrier services like SMS and phone calls could be more vulnerable.
So why is 2G still on by default, even though it's so obviously obsolete? The 2G story varies dramatically around the world. The IoT cellular company EMnify maintains an incredible global 2G phase-out list that is worth perusing. Some countries like the US, Canada, Japan, South Korea, and Taiwan have been off 2G for a while. Europe isn't killing 2G until 2025, though. Some South American countries are keeping the standard around until 2024, and some countries in Africa have no scheduled 2G shutdown date at all.
This radio "hardware abstraction layer" is one of the Project Treble vendor interfaces we talk about so much. Treble is a project that modularizes the OS away from the hardware support, allowing for easier updates; this HAL is that interface that sits between the OS and the hardware driver. The actual HALs don't get updated much, so your best bet for getting a 2G kill switch is buying a new Android phone launching with Android 12, not a phone that is being upgraded to Android 12.
Enlarge / The 2G kill switch on Android 12.
Ron Amadeo
But wait, this is Android, so the carriers can get in the way, too. As the release notes say, "Carriers can disable the feature at runtime." With all the possible variables here, the only way to really know if killing 2G is supported is to open the settings and look. I can confirm the switch is on the Pixel 6, and the EFF says to check some newer Samsung phones.
If you want to kill 2G and have a normal settings layout, the switch is at "Settings > Network & Internet > SIMs > Allow 2G." If your OEM scrambled the Android settings for the purposes of "differentiation," try searching for "2G" or hunting around the cellular settings.

I wonder if they came up with this idea because of GrapheneOS's "LTE only" selector? Probably didn't want to go to quite that extreme since LTE coverage is quite spotty on some networks and this mode can't work well without network support for VOLTE?

Here.
Disabling 2G blocks me from doing any calls in Germany (I am from Austria with two carriers from Austria).
