Few questions regarding firmware upgrade - Sprint Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Okay so I managed to update my phone to MM without loosing any data (phone unlock, Whatsapp everything is present as it was).
So now the only question remains that, if I do a backup of everything in Smart Switch and then do a factory reset of my Note 4 then restore the backup, will I have everything as it is present? All my Whatsapp chats and everything working after factory reset?
Waiting for a good sincere reply.
Regards,
Zeekay.

Anyone?

From what I've personally experienced with Smart Switch it doesn't backup the app data for most apps only the app itself, with some exceptions for samsung apps like S Memo.
As Whatsapp isn't a seperate item on the backup list, I would have to say that it won't backup its data.

Backup, but not the usual way

I got issue a week ago where almost every app randomly crashes on my phone. It is Desire running CyanogenMod, with app2sd (including data). I tried upgrading CM, restoring stuff from nandroid backup, and changing SD cards, but the problem always comes back.
So I want to wipe everything clean and install system on fresh device.
However, I also want to keep my contacts, text messages, call history and stuff like that. How can I do it without using nandroid (which would also transfer my old problems)?
I use sms backup+ for sms and Call history. Are your contacts not google contacts?
Not all of them are google contacts. I'd also like to keep some other settings from other apps...
When you restore SMSes with SMS backup+, does the stock android message app still see the correct dates of text messages, or are they one big mess cause all the dates are reset to restore date?
Basically, I want to backup everything that does not have a chance of transfering the error form the old systme.
Do you think full system Titanium Backup would do it? Does it only backup app settings and saved data, or whole apps?

It backups the application + data.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA Premium App
I use Titanium for apps and their data, but for contacts, messages, phone history, etc i prefer My Backup Pro.

Can't restore backup after update (with root)

Hi,
after rooting my phone, and updating it in the process, I can't restore any backup I did before.
I did the backup with the backup & restore app that it came with in stock trim when the phone still ran on 4.3. I intended to restore my data after flashing to 4.4 (0.681 fw) ... which, I know now, doesn't work that easily.
Is there a way to get at least part of the backup restored (contacts, text messages and such)?
And while we're at it, may I ask if there is a preferred app to backup phone data (contacts, text, call history, settings, apps ...)?
Didn't you sync contacts with google?
I didn't. I guess I should have ...
In the end, I reflashed to the 14.2-something firmware with the older version of the backup & restore app included. So, I could restore my backup from before flashing (rooting); all good, for now

Backup app for non-rooted device:

What backup app is available that will backup all of my text messages w/out rooting my phone? My device suffers from lag and I'm thinking of doing a hard reset to see if this helps. However, I would like to be able to restore all of my text messages afterwards.

If you just need to backup messages......even call logs and phone setting, wallpaper etc....you dont need app. The phone come with backup features which all you need to do is just log in/create a Samsung account.

Helium is a great option; doesn't require root, backs up pretty much everything. The only potential drawback is it requires the device be plugged into a computer which uses a program since it works through ADB.

All SMS apps crashing

Hello! Yesterday I decided to update my OP3 to the latest version, and as usual, I rooted it and restored with titanium backup. Everything went as usual, but today I decided to send a SMS and the stock app kept crashing, so I tried to use messenger (from Facebook) it crashed when I enabled SMS.
Later, I searched about this and found that i needed to clean data and cache, but when I checked on the application section I had none, the cache and data were empty.
I've already tried to use 3rd party apps to send messages, but all crashed the same way as the stock.
How can I fix this? I don't want to factory reset again my phone, is a pain to restore the data.

Thats been an issue with the OTA updates. Seems not to work right (never advised anyone to do ota as a single millisecond of data loss causes issues)
You may have to end up Factory resetting. Also TIBU messes up google messaging service so you will end up with apps not giving notifications properly.

People have said that reinstalling the apps without wiping the data works. I just set everything up again. But then I like most developers use less then 10 apps on our devices other then the stock apps.

Ok. I'll try a factory reset and reinstaliing the apps without TiBu. I'll get back to you when I finish this.
It worked, thanks!

Help please unlocking bootloader

Hi
I have a RN8P Global 12.5.1
How can i unlock the bootloader whithout loosing data, exactly App's Data. And rooting it
It's important for me to save it, but whithout Root, Titanium don't work.
Or is there any other solution to backup App's Data with another software or a Windows software.
Thanks in advance for your help
unlocking bootloader while retaining data is not possible, sadly.. but most of your data will be saved and restored with Google account. you can also use MIUI backup if you're still gonna use MIUI after unlocking

Hi
Thanks for your answer, is there any solution to backup App's Data ?
With MIUI backup, no App's Data are saved, also with Google.
Or transfer data to another device ?
Thanks in advance

hmm based on experience after unlocking bootloader, and even flashing new ROM, most of my apps data got restored by Google like app settings and preferences, messages, home settings, etc.
which specific app do you need to restore data on? perhaps it has a way to backup and restore data, like in most messaging apps. if it's a game, you can connect it to Google Play Games too
just treat it like you're transferring to a new device/phone, and you'll be okay and won't miss much

Hi
Thanks for your reply
It's not game's data, but apps like CCTV apps with special data.
I tried to transfer it in a new Samsung Tab, but only the apps are restored, not the apps data.
Titanium do it verry well but with the root
