What does a custom kernel add? How would I install it? - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am referring to the one here: https://ruu.lalleman.net/HTC_M8S(QL_UL)/Kernel (Expert)/
I dint really understand what benefits/drawbacks it would give, could someone give me a run down on what it would do, how it benefits my phone, downsides and also how to install it?

[Q]Stock Roms vs Custom ones

Hello folx..
Im using Desire HD for a while and wanted to ask you:
What is the diffrence between stock rom and custom roms ? What do i get if i put custom rom on my desire hd ? I have to root it i know that. But is it worth to put custom rom?
Thanks alot in advance for responses..
as i can see in your signature, why have you modde your HD2? the same reason to not be controlled by anyone to what you do with something that you own, to be free of bloatware that the companys want sell you. that is why i keep mine as plain as possible.

Yes, i modded my HD2, because it has Wm stock on it, and i wanted android.. But i still cant see right bemefits of custom android roms for DHD.. Maybe im not reading much...
Briefly - Most custom ROMs are better optimized for speed, smoothness, battery life, user customization, extra settings etc. Not only that but most bugs are fixed before HTC would ever get round to it.
Do it, you wont look back
But , if i root my phone, i loose warranty ? Is there any chance i could "unroot" my phone ( revert to process of rooting, so i can keep my warranty for any case..) ?
If it's anything like the Hero (which I'm sure it is), then flashing an official HTC RUU ROM will remove root.
Best to check in the DHD development section though, there's a FAQ there
EDIT: As always, it's best to do as much of your own research and reading as you can before trying anything new, but here's a link to a thread about removing root etc: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=9985360#post9985360

Does anyone have a step by step guide to CM 7.2?
I'm a noob and don't want to make any mistake. I have done a nandroid backup so I'm good to go.

[Q] Xperia S - Clean android

Hi guys.
I´m very new to this site, never rooted a phone, or nothing of the sorts.
However.
I´ve got an Xperia S, and I´d like to investigate the opportunity to have it cleaned and refitted with a naked android install. Kinda like the Google Nexus phones. Is that possible? Or do one have to use one of the custom roms? I want this, to get rid of the space the sony-gui and programs uses on my phone, as ram is getting short, and I just like the "naked" feeling it would give.
Any info would be awesome.
Thanks guys

You mean the Vanilla skin. As far as I know, You will have to install a custom ROM for it.

The Vanilla skin, ok. Pardon my ignorance, but where can I get this, and how do I install it? And a custom rom, is that something on top of the existing sony-gui?
Is it possible to wipe the phone clean, and install stock android on it?
Go through XDA, You will find everything here, regarding what is custom ROM, how to install it and necessary precautions. And do read and re-read again, as You are new to this.
Also, if You look, You can find the everything in forum. The ROM's are available here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-s/s-development
Check for the AOSP one's, those have Vanilla skin.
Custom ROM usually replace the software entirely, and it is not on top of 'sony-gui.'

[Q] I need help with costum ROMs

Hello there!
I purchased the new HTC One M8 and it is just AMAZING!
I came from Galaxy SIII... and the differences are huge and I don't regret my move
Anyways, when flashing something on SIII and rooting the device was VERY simple and user-friendly..
I could change ROMs without any problem and knew every step and step.
But after checking how to install a costum room on the M8 I feel like I don't understand anything.
I need a really detailed guide to how to flash a costum ROM? what do I need for it? how to root the device? what is S-OFF S-ON..?
I really know nothing about how to flash costum ROMs to HTC device ...
And I don't know where to start from and which ROM to choose, so please i'd like to have a very detailed step by step guide for rooting + flashing costum ROMs
Thanks!

Do read other threads to get general information. Also, go through various ROM threads(not many) to know about them.
Also, decide if You want to stay on Stock based ROM's(Jelly Bean 4.1.2) or want to use latest Android ROM's. Do know, the company firmware is the best firmware, You won't find any major bugs there. But if You decide to root and install custom ROM's, You will face many problems, many of them major one's. But there is positive side too, You get many new features, latest android etc. So first decide if You are okay with issues with Your phone, or want a stable phone. Then If You want to flash ROM's, let us know which one's. And most of all, search, even on Google, just add "xda" while searching. Like "unlock bootloader Xperia S xda" will give You proper results.
