and ours as well

I know this is a pretty old thread, but I couldn't find any other thread which had any answer.
Does anyone have a step by step guide to CM 7.2?
I'm a noob and don't want to make any mistake. I have done a nandroid backup so I'm good to go.

[Q]is it possible to root/install custom roms safely to a desire z 2.3 ota from htc?

Can i safely root/install custom roms in a desire z that was upgraded to gingerbread?
I am completely new to rooting/installing custom roms to any android phone. i held out doing so because my original plan was to wait for the 2.3 update from htc. using the official update is a nightmare. i always have lags in messaging and the sense always restarts when i go back to the home screen. can i safely root and install custom roms in my phone? can anyone point me to a very easy to follow guide to do so? thank you very much.
tsk tsk tsk
dude... first of all: USE SEARCH FUNCTION!!! XDA mods have hard time maintaining the community and thousands (hundreds of) posts as is so any unnecessary posts should really be avoided.. back to thread..
Is it possible? YES! Is it safe??? No way!!!
As you can probably see in every single rooting/custom ROM flashing tutorial/guide - there's no such thing as "safe rooting/installation of custom ROM" and nobody will give you any guarantees there. ppl share their experiences but those don't necessarily relate to your (or any) other device in general.
if you mess with your phone - you must be mentally prepared for the worst, otherwise - don't do it.
there's a thread which already covers this topic

Just give the search a chance
thank you very much for your answers alcak4ever and QSchachi. i followed the link above and did it.so far im think i got it. the only problem is the download for the rom is slow.hehe. thanks again!
"Safe" is a relative term. Almost any phone modding carries some risk of damaging your device (brick, soft brick, etc.). But if you read up BEFORE you start, and follow the instructions carefully, the risk is pretty small. Just do the research, and understand the risks, and you should be fine.

[Q] Galaxy Newbie / Root / Roms / Radio

Hey Guys, i´m coming from the desire z and got few small questions.
1. someone told me there´s no need to root the device, is that right or not?
2. do i need a kind of dev-bootloader?
3. which recovery is the best? / does the ext4 recovery exist for the nexus? really liked to work with it
4. got o2(germany), is there any recommended radio?
5. are there big differences between the roms? which one would u take? i personally would take cm9, because i used cm7 on my desire z, but e.g. android revolution got a lot of clicks, why do so many people prefere it?
for the moment, these are the questions that are in my mind, think in 2 days it´s gonna arrive, just wanted to make sure everything can ben realised as fast as possible when my new phone arrives
thanks in advance
no one an idea?

1. There are definite benefits to unlocking the bootloader and rooting. And if you ever had to, you can go back to stock. The great thing about the Galaxy Nexus is how very hard it is to truly brick, but dont try
2. No, unlocking the bootloader is actually pretty simple. You will need Android SDK and the drivers installed on your computer
3. I prefer Clockwork Mod Recovery. Because its the most popular, it is also what most instructions are for
4. You will just have to read through some of the GSM radio threads. Updating to 4.0.4 is probably all you need though.
5. Yes there are difference between ROMS. I am currently using AOKP Milestone 4. CM9 is certainly great with a lot of feature. ARHD is more to the stock feel. Its not going to have as many feature as AOKP, CM9, or Gummy, but it is a very smooth ROM. Honestly it just comes down to what you like in the feature list.
If you have any questions on how to do any of this there are detailed, near fool-proof, instructions here

Guude
1) Depends on what you wanna do with the phone. Mine is rooted
2) Not really
3) I would use CWM. Works perfect and is very popular
4) I always used the radio coming with the installaled Rom. And had no problems at all.
5) At the moment i use Gummy Rom. Tried Cm9 a few nightlies ago, but actually i like gummy more. Still some bugs (camera doesn`t work properly, but 3rd party cam apps do so i don`t care) and the battery life is great. Overall performance is also very good.
thank you for your answeres gonna check the roms

[Q] Updating Stock Wildfire

Hi Guys
I have had my Wildfire for 2 years and is now out of contract / warranty etc so I thought I'd like to play with it.
It has never had any updates (still running 2.1), nor any mods of any sort.
So my questions, (as it is not clear to me from searching)
1 - Can I get Gingerbread on?
2 - What programme do I use to flash phone?
3 - Do I need S Off first?
4 - Can I keep HTC Sense?
5 - Any pitfalls to look out for?
Thanks for help in this and sorry if I missed a good thread already (I did search, honestly, but sometimes difficult if you don't know what to search for?)
u jst go through this thread

Seems really a good time to make your phone your own (that's exactly what you could do with root and s-off).
Root = you could access all files on your phone
s-off = "security off" means you'll have the right to write in system (that's necessary for a lot of those really cool things...)
Your questions:
1: definitely yes - plus: you could even get ICS yet (with some little issues but works)
2: you need a bit more rather than one single programme
3: see above
4: yes and no as if you like to keep sense if I'm not mistaken (no sense fan here) you'll be bound to froyo
5: are you kidding? if you're driving @90mph on a highway and close your eyes... it's just like that: s-off (see above) means what it says: "security off" - so you'll have to be a bit more careful what you do (sometimes more than a bit lol)
I suggest to have some good reads - and to ask your (remaining) questions until you know what you're going to do.
Best place to start could be one of the two threads in "General":
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1365159
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1145035
And really: it doesn't hurt to read the OP and at least the last 2 or 3 pages to understand a bit more
But why do you want to have CyanogenMod as your first custom rom if you don't know anything about rootig? (i'm not offend you, just asking). IMO better way for you would be to only root your phone or install custom stock rom (f.e RemPuzzle) to get to know with it

uh - can't see that he was talking about CM anyway... But even if this was the case: CM7 should be the most stable, best supported and most uncomplicated custom ROM and a very good point to start at. But if wants to stick with sense this makes no sense anyway (pun intended lol)

I agree with you: my first steps were S-OFF, unlock bootloader and rooting with Revolutionary, and Nandroid backup.
Then I started playing with apps for root phones, flashed the RemPuzzle kernel for overclocking always with the stock ROM.
During that time I experienced Nandroid backup and restore and when I was quite familiar with these procedures, I decided to try a different ROM...
ok then (; so you should know that cm is more complicated with set it to perfect work (; if you know anything about it give a try and you'll see how much you have learned (;

Um, I'm not sure about that and I believe everyone's mileage may vary (widely). I don't think that it's complicated or even hard to configure CM7. If I wouldn't know anything about it your suggestion would sound to me like: "hey hold on - that's the very experimental pro stuff"... (and CM7 to me is exactly the opposite of that)
Even more important: CM7 is the ROM with the best support as it's the most used custom ROM
Also, from my experience people root their phones to do exactly that: customizing.
Using the stock ROM probably might lead you to continue using the phone like before. No idea if this really helps (besides the people who indeed just want the stock ROM and nothing else).
But I'm probably misled here as I directly started off with CM7 without knowing any flyspot of rooting and custom ROMs
and this is all fun with it (; installing new roms and trying to find best way to configure it to best working (; but i think that there is much more work with configuration cm 7 than rem puzzle for example (;

[Q] Simple KitKat 4.4 help requested

Hello there! Im here with a request if someone can help with unlocking, rooting, clockwork mod and custom rom stuff.
Im using Samsung Galaxy Nexus (GSM) Maguro running on the lastest android 4.3 and since 4.4 is out from 2 weeks or so i really wanna get it on my phone even when Google wont update our gnexus with their latest os. I know the current state of the KitKat 4.4 AOSP versions is not 100% stable and mainly those gfx issues when rotating and stuff but ill be okay.
I know there are alot of guides out there but all i need is a simplified one with intel from where to start to where to end it.
There are many stuff on the internet ive already searched but somehow i dont do it because of all the info inside it.
I know to read and before my galaxy nexus i had the Sony X8 using custom rom GDX+ and it worked well everything was easy. But with my nexus now i think there are more things to do now.
All im asking is the easiest way to get it ready to flash the package and the GAPPS. (i already picked the one from here and i have the gapps on my pc) Now i need info on how to unlock and everything with clockworkmod and backup my current os.
Thanks in advance!
No offense, but if you can't follow the guides in here on how too unlock/custom recovery/root then no one in the world can.
The methods showed here are simplest as it gets!!
As a last alternative, try the GNEX TOOLKIT V11.1.0
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
Hi I second this. I would also like a stable, stock, deodexed, rooted and busyboxed kitkat rom for my gsm gnexus with instructions on flashing and installing gapps. Any advice is much appreciated.

Hey ADDOriN, what's up?
First of all, I found the same problem as you... I spent some hours trying to understand the whole process and honestly didn't reach my goal... The tutorial pointed out by the friend t1.8matt is great and easy, but if you don't feel confartable yet, you can try to follow the steps on youtube video called "How To Root Android 4.3 On the galaxy nexus" made by Manley (sorry, but as a noob, I can't post the link)
Some considerations about:
- the tutorial uses CWM but depending on the version of 4.4, you should use TWRP... The process to apply the image file is the same, differing only in root step
- if your bootloader is locked, in the moment you unlock it, all your data will be erased, so a backup is highly recommended
The GNex Toolkit 11.1.0 quoted by the friend wysefreakz is easier than made everything by hand, but honestly, I didn't find an information if it is or isn't compatible with 4.3 version, so I chose to the "hand-made" method.
Just to say, I used custom firmwares on my old Defy and made the same for a Galaxy S, but I found some doubts to gnexus (even had converted it from yakjuvs to yakju in the past)
I hope I can help you
I would not use a toolkit, as pointed out by many experienced users, they can do more harm than good. Not always the case but it is possible. I you get the android SDK setup on your computer, its actually not hard using adb and fastboot once you learn the commands. There are plenty of tutorials out there to help you with getting it setup and learning about adb and fastboot.
@leocasarin, @t1.8matt, @wisefreakz Thank you guys!
Actually there is no problem for me is to follow slowly the tutorials here and there. I made this thread to ask if there is something i didnt found my rolling on the forums or the internet as general. @t1.8matt yes the tutorial you give me is maybe the one ill follow. @leocasarin i will follow the ideas you said to me and im really thankful.
NINJA EDIT: I just used the video tutorial posted from @leocasarin and i completed everything and i now have KitKat 4.4! KUDOS FOR YOU MATE <3

[Q] I need help with costum ROMs

Hello there!
I purchased the new HTC One M8 and it is just AMAZING!
I came from Galaxy SIII... and the differences are huge and I don't regret my move
Anyways, when flashing something on SIII and rooting the device was VERY simple and user-friendly..
I could change ROMs without any problem and knew every step and step.
But after checking how to install a costum room on the M8 I feel like I don't understand anything.
I need a really detailed guide to how to flash a costum ROM? what do I need for it? how to root the device? what is S-OFF S-ON..?
I really know nothing about how to flash costum ROMs to HTC device ...
And I don't know where to start from and which ROM to choose, so please i'd like to have a very detailed step by step guide for rooting + flashing costum ROMs
Thanks!
