Anyone know an easy way to grant universal write access to the external SD card on Marshmallow? I was using the Play store app SDFix which worked for both KK and Lollipop, but the app doesn't work on Marshmallow

I haven't found an application for that. Unless an application asks for media rw access, not much can be done with MM. For example, the Samsung browser can download to internal sdcard or micro sdcard. Some apps just write to internal sdcard.
What I did notice using freeza's ROM, the permissions are relaxed for apps that do write to extSdCard. I was able to get media rw access for titanium backup where stock would limit to data rw only. On stock ROM, titanium wouldn't show the micro sdcard if navigating via /mnt/media_rw path to use the titanium backup feature that protects a backup from overwrite.

Have you tested this with MM?
This was how it was done in LP but from what I have read it doesnt work on MM.
Can you confirm?
Well being i replied on Pe2 I would think yes.works fine for me. Your mileage may vary.

Is there a way to get ROM MANGER to default to the Internal "SD" card for backups? It always goes to my external card.
I know I can manually launch clockworkmod and select "internal SD" but I would rather do it from within the O/S so I can name the files.
you can always rename the files however you like with any file editor to rename them
and you can move the zip files around to either Internal SD or External SD
personally i like them on the External SD better to safe space on my Internal SD
I do that but like the convenience of doing it from the O/S. I thought I preferred the external as well until yesterday. The reason I want to do that is because when I tried doing a restore from the external it kept crashing. Seems my 32GIG card is flaky (as these cards can be) and I couldn't restore. I know it's the card because it restored fine from the internal SD. The internal ram, not being a "card" is much more reliable and now I am too skittish to use the external MicroSd for backups.
PM Koush or sent him an email for a feature request on his CWR
to let user pick where the backup are kept
I think I'm missing something!?
It looks like it's included already?

Well I'll be a son of a b .......... I tried MENU everywhere except from the main screen! Dohhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!
Thanks for making me look foolish, I deserved it! But I don't feel that bad since Allgamer didn't recall either,
not exactly, i was thinking more in the area of Letting you select a Folder you like.
i do know of the internal vs. external option
that's why i said i like it to be on the external by default a few messages above
ideally we should be able to pick a folder to keep all that stuff, i'll like to point it to a folder called "ROMs" for example in the root of /sdcard/
instead of the default
(titanium backup just recently added that feature, well more like they improved it)
hi guys, with all the problems kitkat is giving to us with the sd-cards, I thought that at least music will be playable through it.
I just put some music on my sd-card, and went for a run, the HTC music app recognized the music but when i pressed play no music came out
I tried music from my internal memory and it worked perfectly...
is this a known thing? can it be fixed? and last question, I did researched about it and could not find anything but I read some articles that suggest that android L will support sd-card, is it true?
BTW, I'm on rooted and S-OFF device using latest ARHD if it matters.
cheers
I have no problem playing musics from external sdcard.
All my music files are on external sdcard (Don't have much anyway)

Why don't you post in that ROM thread, maybe someone has idea why it doesn't work for you.
BTW I'm on a rooted device with stock ROM and external sdcard writeable fixed.

Means that the sdcard can be writeable. As you mentioned above, google stop the sdcard write access on KitKat, so you need to fix that on your own.
Anyway, what I know most custom ROM has this fix included in the ROM. So ARHD may have that fix included. So ... it's best to ask in the ROM thread as your problem may not related to sdcard read/write problem.
Must be a Rom issue as I copied over a load of music to my sd card the other day and the stock music player played it no problem. I'm stock unrooted by the way.
I have been trying for a while now to get the APK for S-Note to install on stock 4.4.4 and fails every time I try. So online I found another way I could do this is to use root explorer thats in ES Explorer. The problem is the copying to anything on root fails even though the root option is enabled in ES Explorer and my phone is rooted. So my thought is that maybe the file explorer is messed up or something. I know the APK for S-note works because it worked prior to me going to stock from another customer rom. Any suggestions?
Did you mount system as rw?

I don't remember seeing that as an option. Where in the app do I do this?
Tap on root explorer, not the button, then you will see this screen:

Go to mount r/w, then select rw for system
That worked, however I am getting a describe error. It says there is a problem parsing the package. I am not understanding why this APK does not work. The icon looks normal when its not in the system app folder. When its copied there I see the the android gremlin thing sitting in a box. This is extremely aggravating because I know this worked on 4.4.2 just fine.

You mean the mount rw thing? That part I was able to do. Even when I set it back and reboot the app does not show up in my app drawer.

Your welcome.
Root is needed. Since many people have been complaining that you cannot install apps to the SD card I found a solution.
It is an app called gltosd. I have been using that on the stock ROM too.
Now the tutorial:
Install the app. Next go to your internal memory and copy the data of the game to /sdcard1/obb which is the folder gl stores app data inside. Now after moving that reboot your device and run the game in the app, after pressing the chain button on the top.
If you have a Gameloft game then store the data to
/sdcard1/games
Data folders (previously in /internal/android/data) are moved to:
/sdcard1/data
Again if you didn't see obb goes:
/sdcard1/obb
Here you go that is it. If you still have issues running apps reboot.
If I solved your issue please just thank me.

It works. But still cant install games from Google Play. For me the best was storage swap, so... finger crossed that anybody find out working method on lollipop.
So as to move apps to SD card and to edit System apps you can also use Link2SD application. (Root needed)
Well, bro, nice app, but there's one more great available, Folder Mount... #JustSaying
Thanks bro, it worked !!!:thumbup::thumbup:

It's a lot easier bro, you just have to create a folder with same name as it is on internal storage, place the folder at appropriate location, as per need and just have to link them, sdcard folder will be mounted at boot and you can launch the app directly, so efficient.
Here's a example for you

Actually this does not move apps 2 sd crad, you may want to change the title of this thread
And for the same purpose, I suggest using folder mount because it is far better :good:
You could mount any apk data with folder mount.
Renamed

Hi guys! I'm using zen2 - 551ML 2.3Ghz/32GB rom/4Gb ram.
Currently im running 2.19.40.22 stock firmware, my phone is rooted, i also flashed Project T v46 kernel.
I used Titanium to freeze all these system apps that i dont use, i did not uninstall any system app by far.
Then i checked Titanium to see ROM storage, and im quite shocking that the ROM storage (2,34Gb) is only has 30,8Mb free :crying:
I checked the other zen 2, same model, use by my friend, also rooted and i found that his phone has over 500+Mb free storage from the ROM storage (2,34Gb the same as mine).
Here is the picture of my phone's ROM storage >>> http://imgur.com/8s3lEd9

Please help me free some space on ROM storage, so i can push some useful app to system app and do a good back up.

Full wipe then flash full rom via TWRP. another method is adb sideload but i have never tried it.
