Has anyone else noticed a sever drop in battery life after flashing? - Nextbit Robin

I've tried cyanogen, aokp, and aicp. All of these ROMs ruin the battery life. It's more than a 20% an hour drain. Am I missing something? On the stock ROM I felt like I could run the phone all day.

Whenever you flash a ROM you need the battery to stabilize over a few charging cycles. It's always been the case, so give it time. Many people have experienced better battery life, but I can't confirm since I'm trying to hop between the different ROMs on several devices.

Reading over the Nextbit forums it looks like WiFi scanning is causing this. Disabling that will fix it.

not a severe drop no but usage seemed higher from day to day. I think it's well documented that android (and most other phone OS for that matter) take a while to settle down after an update/flash. I'm pretty sure this is the case here. my robin has 'settled' now - not much different to what it was before. like dave said above though, wifi scanning eats through battery life. I also turn off NFC which I have no use for (currently) and in general stop services (like printing) which I don't use.

Kernel Advice

I have poor battery life on my desire, it barely lasts 7 hours. I have tried wiping battery stats etc, and have the screen brightness at 50%. I have read that some kernels can greatly improve battery life, is this true? If so, which would you recommend, and do I just flash it like I would a rom? I am using the latest miui.
Cheers,
Steve

They can but finding the underlying app causing the phone not to sleep would be what I'd be looking at. Remove all installed apps and add them 1 at a time and see how the battery goes

Yeah i've tried this, there's nothing draining the battery.
Not at all
Such battery drainage can only be induced by either heavy usage, or phone not being able to go to sleep.
The differences between kernels in custom roms are merely a shades since all of them are pretty much battery efficient. You won't miraculously jump from battery life of 7 hours to 30 hours. Concentrate on your apps or even better, third party Widgets.
Sent from my HTC Desire using Tapatalk
Probably a hardware fault then - the OS on it's own with no apps installed shouldn't drain a battery that quickly. Did you also turn off the sync options to test that theory?
Personally sounds like a knackered battery/phone
If it isn't apps/widgets (they are the culprit for heavy usage) then it would prob be a faulty battery. I did a little test last month to see how much battery I could lose in 24 hours. I lost 8%. I guess it could be a baseline to start off with.

[Q] Standby Battery Current Usage

I've looked through the other battery life thread, but I didn't see many people posting easily comparable data so I figured i'd see if my usage was normal compared to others.
I've recently noticed that my standby current (screen off, background data on) hovers consistently in the 50-60mA range. I'm using Battery Monitor Widget from the market to obtain the data. I don't remember if I had this with stock as the battery life was great so I didn't pay much attention.
I'm currently running Skyraider, but have had the same usage issue with AOSP roms (MIUI, CM7) and it doesn't seem to matter what's installed or whether or not the radios are turned on. Standby current never goes lower than about 50mA.
Anybody else using battery monitor widget or something similar care to post your average usage? Listing whether or not you're stock or rooted and what rom you are on would also be helpful.
Thanks.
I'm going to assume that no reply's means everyone is either happy with their battery life or nobody uses a current monitoring widget.
Just wondering why my Inc2 has a ~50mA standby current and a lot of other android phones seem to be able to keep that below 10mA. Some data from another user would help pinpoint if it's just my phone or the Inc2 in general.
My stanby by drain is also pretty high compared to other phones I've tried everything I could think of to track it down with no luck. Maybe its just the inc2
Sent from my ADR6350 using xda premium
I guess it's good to know i'm not the only one. It's not that my battery life is horrible, it's just that it seems like it could be so much better if the standby drain was reduced.
I feel the same way. under battery use my idle percent was 1 on my inspire. on this phone i've seen it as high as ten. no screen off profiles or disabling widgets helps. I have no rogue apps either. it must be my phone

[Q] Battery drain list

I was thinking why couldn't we sum up all the reasons of battery drain in some thread, so that other's wouldn't have to keep on asking why they were getting one or open a new thread for it.
In almost all cases it's backlight, WiFi, mobile network, bluetooth,GPS, screen time out.
You can also look at battery usage stats in settings to see the responsible app or system setting for battery drain.

For example, somewhere I read that enabling "flashlight" and "backlight" in quickpanel settings, the battery would drain more.
What I initially thought was that we could post our experiences with bad battery life, the major reasons behind and what we did to solve it. Along with maybe the rom/kernel we would be using.

For over an year, I have flashed my LT15i more than 20 times, trying all the official firmwares meanwhile (all rooted, of course). In my opinion, the daily consumption depends if I used more or less the radios, the players, the screen aso. Because my habits are more or less the same (I listen music and I read/navigate during my half an hour way with the subway, for example) I can affirm that the consumption is constant, around 40% daily. But, I consider that a good estimate could be done following the battery consumption by night. For me, this consumption is around 5%. With one exception: I had installed once an application (from the market!) which downloaded over night almost 10MB of ads, and drained my battery almost 20%! Never ever I have experienced battery drain with official firmwares...
Use BetterBatteryStats and the Android's own included Battery Usage screen and you got all the info you need.

[Q] S3 Battery drain during use

I know there are hundreds of these threads but i was unable to find the information that I'm looking for. But my guess is there is no real answer to my question. But i've been wrong before. Please bear with me
Here goes.
I want to know how to maximize the battery when USING the phone. I dont care about wakelocks or sleep time etc.
I am interested in getting to max out the usage time.
For example when I stream radio and surf the net and text. My phone lasts 2 hours with max birghtness. That seems really short.
- I've done all that I know to minimize power consumption with turning off sync, settings, etc.
- I have tasker starting and stopping data during screen on/off.
- I have the phone UV and under clocked.
- I Limit my phone to 3G only, with no LTE
- Also signal is not a problem since I can stream and surf without an issue. With areas with poor reception. I don’t even use the phone really
-*I also have all the chats turned on include facebook, whats app, etc. Once again, phone is awake. and I'm concerned with its ON screen usage battery time.
- I even have the second CPU setting on conservative. (when set on ondemand it drains even faster)
But during usage, its terribly short! What can I do to prolong the life?
The battery was always like this and I dont believe its defective. With regular use, checking phone (once or twice every hour) can easily last a day. But during multitasking usage I notice the drain to be 49-59% per hour according to battery spy.
I know I can uninstall battery spy/BBS to conserve battery. But I'm looking for what some are reporting (4-5 hours of on screen usage time).
Looking for some guru-like advice Thansk in advanced
Personally, I get the best battery life out of the stock kernel of whatever particular ROM I'm running. I stick with tw based ROMs, and I greenify almost everything! I consistently get between 5 and 6 hours of "screen on" time with the stock battery.
You never said what ROM and kernel combo you're using. I know that I get 3 to 4 hours of screen time depending on the apps used and the connections utilized (wifi, signal strength, LTE or H+, etc). 2 hours definitely sounds low though. I'm using stock debloated ROM right now and stock kernel. I have not modified voltage or clocking in any way (yet).

I didnt really notice any improvements on the KT747 vs stock kernel.
I greenify everything except for the messaging apps. But then again, when my screen is on, i want ot be using those apps.

Websurf and radio or text and radio is just 2 tasks occuring.
Well I can say that running on Wifi, I can get regular battery life about 4-5 hours of use and over 20 hours of idle time.
The radio seems to be the main culprit, so the question is..... what can be done about that?
I'm asking because
- I flashed diff modems and seems to yield same results
- other S3 from my friends seems to last longer with multitasking
- signal....strong or weak seems to produce same drain.
Battery?

I've had the same problem. I couldn't get the same battery life as others I know. I always turn my GPS off if I didn't need to use it. Google now seemed to kill my battery so I stopped using it. But, the one thing I did notice is that the battery stats can be a little deceiving. If I left my phone off the charger and didn't use it for 10 hours and then started to play a game, it would look like I was getting good battery life as I would have about 60% battery left. Now if I played the game right after unplugging my phone, and then after the same 10 hours I'd be around 40%. Hopefully that makes sense.
One thing that I did do to overcome this was get an extended battery. It does add a little bulk, but now I can use my phone like I want and not have to worry about my phone dying on me at night. I can even forget to plug it in and still have battery the next day. For me I got the hyperion 4200 battery. The Zero Lemon seemed just to big for my tastes.
The other thing is also the ROM. At times I have found the same ROM but a different version exhibited different results. All ROM's offer something different so it is a give and take situation.
I hope this helped.

Yea my gps only turns on when my map turns on via tasker. I also dont have google now on.
Ya i understand what you mean on the percentages.
Ive seen people wiht great battery life, i wanted to try to acheive that without an extended bat. I was wondering if there was somehting that was obvious, or some radio battery drain fix. (I even tried only 3G, and still drains)
Thanks

It's a little hard to compare, but right now I'm on a 4.3 ROM and the battery life has been exceptional. Otherwise the next one that has been closest for me in terms of battery life has been Dandroid. Also, it's hard to judge a ROM after a day.
I guess I should have asked if you have tried or have any interest in a custom ROM.

I've had a hard time getting really good battery life from the stock ROM. At best using greenify, I could prolong it a bit. If you are interested in a stock ROM with some tweaks, I always suggest S3Rx, or Dandroid if you want a slimmed down version without the bloat.
You can always try the power save mode as that does seem to help some, but you may experience some lag.

Ive frozen most of the bloat, greenified everything, plus I unclocked and under volted it, so any lag I would feel from power safe wont affect me since i believe power save throttles to 1350 ish .

Lineage OS battery drain

Hi!
I've been running Lineage OS for about a week now and I'm experiencing poor battery life. I get around 2 hours of screen-on-time and I'm not doing anything demanding other than browsing and social networking and I have the settings on Efficient in the power menu. I feel like stock was a good 50% better on battery life than LOS.
I also noticed that LineageOS System, Android OS and the Phone Idle processes eat up around 30% of the battery.
I didn't install any battery draining apps and I'm running the latest version of everything.
I tried reseting app preferences but it didn't help.
I also want to note that standby time is amazing. If I don't use the device the battery level stays the same while it's sleeping. When I wake it, it loses 2-3% immediately though. It seems that it only loses battery quickly when the screen is on.
Can someone please help? Is this normal battery life on LOS?

Ah ok have a good career w/ android.. bye
Hey.
I'm using the latest LineageOS same as you, on my LG G2 D802 32GB and having the same issue as you. If I leave my phone on table for a night, it usually drains 1 or 2%, but if I start using facebook or facebook messenger, or just browsing the system settigs, or just ANYTHING, the battery percentage suddenly starts to count down, like 1% every minute or so.
So i've tried stock LineageOS kernel and Lambda kernel aswell (most advanced, latest kernel for G2 atm), rooting and using Greenify, turning everything down to minimal, underclocking GPU and CPU frequencies, changing govenors, battery saving modes on, screenbrightness to minimal without adaptive, everything syncing off, bluetooth, gps, and wifi is usually off, but nothing really helped and it's been buggering me for a week. Compared to the Stock 4.4.2 or 5.0.2, the battery is half as good. Also, I've been reading posts and I've noticed that not everybody have this issue, because some people experience really good battery - or they just say that -, on the same phone modell. I've been thinking about reverting back to stock because of that, but I havent given custom roms like (crDroid or AICP, I'm torn between those two) a shot, but that not relevant to you because G3.
If I find a solution I'll let you know.
LineageOS doesn't have any battery draining bugs for me currently. Have you installed a custom kernel?
G3 D855 user here. Can confirm the same issue, with all nightlies I have used so far. Standby is OK, but it still drains faster than stock. When I use the phone though, that's when it begins to go down waaay too fast. One percent per minute or two tops, certainly at least 2x faster rate. Tried to solve it in many different ways, so far to no avail. Asked some people with D855 and lineage too and they had no issue. It's a mystery to me (btw I bought a new battery just recently)
Second that, same D855 with latest baseband 21C, i encounter same bizarre battery drain..

I'm glad I'm not alone then!
Same problem as everyone else.
Overnight lose only 1% per hour but using the phone it drains extremely quickly.
Look at this crazy battery history:
I've never had this issue on my other devices running CyanogenMod in the past.
Has anyone tracked this issue down to something in particular?
Phew, its not just me. Stock LOS nightlies, pick any... same issue as described by everyone above.
D855/32Gb etc and can not shake it. Wakelocks are all good, as meant to be, just screen on seems to destroy the battery. Have screen on adaptive brightness with around 50% brightness on slider in the first place.
Something is not quite right. Love every other aspect of LOS apart from the battery drainage.
I've got the issue too. I don'y know why but it starts to drain the battery quite fast during the usage of the phone. Any help will be appreciated.

which is similar to what happens to me, i.e. get to 30% and then suddenly shutdown.
I think this is the bug:

Clear caches!
I was having this issue, with Lineage OS as well as some others i tried based off CM. I would get better than stock battery life for a few weeks, then suddenly the battery would start draining in a few hours.
Booting to recovery and clearing all caches fixed this issue for me.

This is a hardware issue with the battery, not a software one. You need to replace your battery with an official one from a reputable source (careful, there are quite a lot of fakes around, so don't be tempted by saving a dollar).

I had already tried this but no luck.
Could you please check your battery stats?
Does the percentage used equal the total of the individual apps?
In my case, it never does, e.g. 15% usage but only 3% used by apps.

Same for me - the numbers never add up. When this occours, I can watch the battery go from fully charged to 30% in an hour or two, but the battery usage meter doesn't show anything like that kind of usage.
I'd post a screenshot, but I've just taken my phone off charge and have no data as yet. I'll post one tonight - but since clearing the caches, mine is behaving at the moment, although I'm not getting the same all-day battery I was 6 weeks ago.
Same here
Also experiencing this issue on my 6P. Lineage OS system consumes the largest portion of my battery and I usually only get 1hr 50 minutes max of screen time. The phone also seems to die at minimum of 24 percent. Just shuts off. I no longer think this is a hardware issue either as other people seem to be experiencing this. (On a somewhat unrelated note, I also can't flash SuperSU in TWRP without it going into a LOS bootloop)
