No OS installed - HTC 10 Questions & Answers

So I did a backup of my stock rom and decided to flash Viper. I wanted to go back to my stock rom to check something but when the backup is done I get a no OS installed message.
I also have a system image backup. Can I take a file from that image and put it in the stock rom backup I made and be able to boot up?

You need to use as to push a ROM to your phone or put it on an SD card

from LeeDroid back to STOCK

okay im currently running Leedroid rom on my ONE X wich is nice, but after flashing my screen start getting the flickering so want to go back to stock, because it never had problems..
what i tried to do, but didn't work was:
Booting into recovery and recover my Nandroid
recover my nandroid finished perfekt without any errors.
but when rebooting it stops at the HTC screen and enter bootloop (can't shut it down)
I went back into recovery and flashed LeeDroid rom again and flashed boot.img and now my ONE X is working but still with Leedroid..
What am i doing wrong ??
do i need to flash some stock Boot.img ?
i thought, when recovering nandroid everything goes back as it was then...
i never had problems like this before with my previous android phones
PLEASE HELP ME GET BACK TO STOCK
as far as i know you can't flash any boot.img from recovery while we have s-on. So i would assume that extends to flashing a boot.img from a system backup? My suggestion would be to find the backup on your device, open it, copy the boot.img to your computer and after restoring your backup, do a fastboot flash of the boot.img you just copied.
But you could also give Android Revolution HD a try, its like stock but better, and i don't have any issues using it

[Q] Please Help! Trouble with updating to Jellybean

Hello this is my first post and I come to request some help.
I have a htc one v and was trying to update to jelly bean through steps from Android Authorty's guide
After completing this set of instructions I booted up my phone and sadly all I got was a htc screen with the red writing which then turned black and nothing happened after that.
Im pretty worried right now, I dont have much knowledge about androids and I have but a clue as to what I have just done.
Is it permanently damaged? How do i fix this or atlest restore it to the factory state.
Please help!

as for the OP: make sure you also flash the KERNEL for the respective rom. it is not enough to install only the ROM. You need also the kernel because we currently have S-ON devices.

Did u flash the kernel at time of installing JB??

Hey i just tried to do this and got error while making backup image of /system
OK so i figured out that i am truly a noob.
I was attempting to install the CDMA version when i needed GSM.
Proud of myself for solving this i went to install the gsm version but sadly now i only get the htc screen with red writing.
It dosent change from there.
Have i done permanent damage because i installed the CDMA version!?
now im getting something really weird my phone goes to the htc screen with red writing then shuts off by itself and then turns on again by itself in a endless cycle of this red writing htc screen.

Alright... let's get your phone fixed!
I assume you have:
1. Unlocked bootloader
2. Installed a recovery
3. Installed a custom CDMA ROM
4. Then installed a GSM ROM
5. Now phone keeps rebooting?
Is that correct?

I have root access but lack the ability to boot to recovery!

I'm currently running the stock Rom with build E98020h. I have successfully achieved root access and have verified it through several apps, and also have supersu installed and seemingly operating fine. I have tried using the 'g pro kitkat recovery' app to flash the recovery, and also freegee but freegee at the opening screen says my device is unsupported. When i go into rom manager v5.5.3.7 and try install a custom rom or even just tap boot to recovery i get an error at the loading screen with the LG logo and it sits there. Am i doing something wrong or is the 20h update keeping me from being to successfully reach recovery? Any insight is greatly appreciated.

20h may be blocking you off...
You could try using LG Flash Tool to go back to stock 4.1.2 (E98010k) and then using FreeGee to bypass and go from there. But idk if that'll work.

I don't think that's possible. You're going to have to flash back to an older version using lg flash tools. If you need to back up anything like texts and contacts, use G Cloud. If you need game data/other data related to specific apps backed up, use Helium. If you're attached to stock try flashing a stock ROM, it will be very similar to your experience now. That'll ensure you get the latest KitKat and still get stock experience... you can always go AOSP too.
thanks... I was hoping to just not have to Flashtools my phone again =P and since its been a while since I checked the forums I wasnt sure if 20h was sorted out yet or not.

I found this elsewhere trying to unlock my e980 that was on 20h when I got it.
OK so I found that G Pro KK recovery elsewhere and installed it but wasn't sure what to do from there.. Which option did you choose when running it? Flash recovery, reboot, or reboot recovery? I tried to reboot to recovery and I got into a CWM recovery, but at that point wasn't sure if I was really there or if I needed to flash the recovery from there or from the app.
I'm dying to get rid of the stock ROM on this thing but there are more steps involved than my previous devices.
Thanks!

All the APK does as I have found out is 'unlocks' the recovery access. After I ran that app I installed Freegee from the app store and installed the CMW recovery from there just to make sure it all was installed and correctly accessible. at that point you just need to download the ROM that you are intending to install and download it. put the zip somewhere in your directory. boot to recovery wipe the necessary mediums and then install from the app and CWM will take care of the rest. Most of the forum threads that have the links to the ROMs will have full instructions on how to install that certain ROM. I can supply links to some if need be. NOT MY THREADS but ones I found helpful.

installing the ROM isn't an issue for me, it's getting the recovery installed.
What process did you do after starting up the G Pro Recovery app? install recovery, reboot, then run freegee?

Yes. Open and run the G Pro Recovery app, once that is done you need to reboot. Install Freegee and open it. I installed CWM. You can use whatever you want. Then I reboot again, once the phone comes back up I used clockwork mods recovery manager to get in and out of recovery. Also, I pulled my SD card out of the phone prior to rooting as I would lose access to it after I did the process. So just to be safe you might want to do that.

Once you take the update then root your device again you have to do a factory reset on your phone in order to flash a recovery. Currently running E98020I, been there, done that! G Pro KitKat then FreeGee. Mic check 1 2, 1 2

If you just want to install the recovery, get an app call flashify from the play store. Install the app, then download and then flash the twrp .IMG file that you've gotten from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3144369

Stock or near stock ROM

Long story short, I am rooted and s-on and running an older version of insertcoin rom. The TWRP backup of my stock rom won't restore and I want to use sunshine to s-off but it says I need to have a stock or close to stock rom. Can anyone recommend a rom that will work for me? Keep in mind that I'm still on firmware that is compatible with 4.4.3. I'm only needing the rom to enable me to s-off, then I can upgrade everything.
Thanks.

You do realize how quickly and easily you can switch back and forth between recoveries if you need to, right? Flash the backup, then switch immediately back to TWRP, then make your own with that recovery to save for later. Or you could just switch back and forth again because it is so easy. I'm surprised that there are no TWRP backups for you. Most have TWRP ones available.

OK here's whats happened. I downloaded the nandroid for my carrier and managed to install it. Its version 4.4.2 and it detected there was an update. I downloaded it and it installed fine, rebooted and it detected another update, then the wifi suddenly turned itself off and would not turn back on so I couldn't download the second bigger update.
I've re-installed the Insertcoin backup and it's all working again.
any ideas?

you shouldnt be taking OTA updates in the first place if you want to Sunshine S-OFF.... the more updates you take the less chances of sunshine working

LG upgrade tool sucks

had to manually install drivers, did not work through tool. and when I clicked upgrade it said I was up to date on 4.4.2. I got it to work by clicking the drop down in the top right corner and clicking upgrade recovery.

Make sure you don't take an OTA or upgrade to LP via the support tool w/ TWRP installed (or any third party recovery for that matter).

Use KDZ tool.
See the sticky.
Honestly if you have twrp just upgrade to Lollipop via Autoprime's zip directly from twrp. They are stock roms directly from Tmobile so Wifi calling and VoLTE is included. Also the it will be rooted too. Unless you don't want twrp or root you can use the KDZ tool.

Yeah that would clean wipe it, if you wipe from TWRP. My steps is to do the factory wipe from Twrp then go to advance wipe and check mark everything in there besides the external sd card. Do the wipe 2 times or more just to make sure and since doesn't hurt to do so. Make sure the zip files for Lollipop are on the external sd card and not internal since you want a clean wipe.
