Long story short, I am rooted and s-on and running an older version of insertcoin rom. The TWRP backup of my stock rom won't restore and I want to use sunshine to s-off but it says I need to have a stock or close to stock rom. Can anyone recommend a rom that will work for me? Keep in mind that I'm still on firmware that is compatible with 4.4.3. I'm only needing the rom to enable me to s-off, then I can upgrade everything.
Thanks.

Thanks, I've looked there before and there's only a nandroid backup. I've got TWRP so I'd have to install philz recovery to use that. I was hoping to avoid having to do that.

You do realize how quickly and easily you can switch back and forth between recoveries if you need to, right? Flash the backup, then switch immediately back to TWRP, then make your own with that recovery to save for later. Or you could just switch back and forth again because it is so easy. I'm surprised that there are no TWRP backups for you. Most have TWRP ones available.

If it just for SunShine S-Off purpose, just grab any TWRP 2.xx backup... you don't really need your device version stock ROM.
2.22.401.5 is a good choice.

OK here's whats happened. I downloaded the nandroid for my carrier and managed to install it. Its version 4.4.2 and it detected there was an update. I downloaded it and it installed fine, rebooted and it detected another update, then the wifi suddenly turned itself off and would not turn back on so I couldn't download the second bigger update.
I've re-installed the Insertcoin backup and it's all working again.
any ideas?

How to extract stock Rom? The case is that I haven't done backup of my stock Rom branded by era provider.
Now some guy told me that he just bought desire z from era and his Rom is identical to RUU_Vision_HTC_WWE_1.72.405.2_R_Radio_12.28e.60.14 0f_26.04.02.17_M2_SF_release (available on this forum)
except radio code which is ending with fU instead f.
So if I would like to get Rom which is flashed on his device, to have exactly what was on mine on the beginning what and how it should be done?

Ok, if I understand you right, you currently have a phone with stock ROM, and you want to take a backup of that phone, correct?
If that's the case, I think you'll still need to root the phone in order to install Clockwork recovery. Once you have Clockwork, then you can take a nandroid backup of your phone. So I don't think you can grab a backup of stock ROM before it was rooted.

Yeah so this a problem. During rooting it is necessary to downgrade your soft to 1.34 what automatically force you to loose your stock Rom. :/

No no I wanted only to have a possibility to back to the stock Rom if my phone will have to be sent to service on warranty.
I know one guy from Poland who also bought a phone from the same telcom operator - era.
He gave me info that the stock Rom on his phone is:
12.28e.60.140fU_26.04.02.17_M2
While on the forum can be find the same but with one difference in radio code - only f instead fU
12.28e.60.140f_26.04.02.17_M2 and can be found in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=879384
But what does it mean this difference mentioned above and if it is negligible or not?
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA Premium App
Well, unless you've flashed a custom radio, another option could be to extract everything from that RUU you found in the forum and flashing everything except the radio.
Although if you want to send your phone for warranty you'll probably have to do a bit more work to get s-on again...

I've flashed two ROMs first one was CM7-R2 and then I've decided to use Virtuous 1.0.1. I don't know if during that process also radio was flashed :/ Was it? I am new Android so I don't know some things yet.

I'm quite sure that flashing those ROMs do not change your radio. So if you need to send for warranty, I think you'll just need to flash the ROM part of the RUU (should be able to find a post somewhere which tells you how to extract just certain parts of the RUU) and then reflash partition 7 to get S-OFF. If you used gfree, it would have made a backup of that partition before it gave you S-OFF. Hopefully you still have it.
Actually, have you taken a look at this?
Given that no encrypted RUU is available, and the decrypted RUU provided by @Zarboz does not, by most accounts, flash properly, is someone with a new phone and having obtained S-OFF, kind enough to provide a Nandroid backup that we can use as our "stock" image? Would be much appreciated.
The new one flashes fine, previous was a bad upload and the size was like a third of real.

i'm in the same boat i HTC dev unlocked day 1 and i'm trying to figure out the best way to return to 100% stock so i can run rum runner. I have a backup system.img along with boot.img and stock recovery i downloaded awhile back. Can't remember for the life of me where i found them and i have no guarantee they will work as expected. It seems like i should be able to push all those img files re-lock the the boot loader and then s-off. But i won't have time to test until this weekend. Does anyone know of a way to verily the img files to see if they are legit?

Just went through the process of trying to find a free alternative, but I wasn't able to.
But Sunshine worked like a treat. The funny/unfortunate thing was that my first M8 (sent it back for the loose volume rocker issue) was S-Off'd via firewater without a hitch.
Second time around, I got walled at "chugging" before the 2nd bottle without fail, no matter what I tried. I attempted while I was on stock Sense, GPe 4.4.3 ROM, and finally CM11, all to no avail. I reverted to stock Sense (pre-requisite for Sunshine), and completed S-Off in a matter of minutes (and $25 poorer).

All the custom rom's I have tried, and when you root, all warn you to make a nandroid backup. If you did that, you can make another nandroid backup of your current rom, restore the backup when you first rooted, use sunshine, then restore your custom rom. At least that is what worked for me. If you didn't, you may have to restore the rom using the HTC updater and then go through the unroot process again. But do the s-off before installing the custom rom.

But think of all the fun you will have. Plus a 2nd chance to do a nandroid backup of the stock rom. One reason I came back to Android is because I think loading and doing roms is fun. I bought a 2nd M8 so I can try other roms without taking a chance of bricking my main phone. Well, good luck and hope everything works fine for you, but remember the #1 rule... Backup up often!!! Nandroid backups are your friends.
I am wanting to go back to a stock recovery from TWRP. as Im going to pass this M8 on and buy and unlocked one, so...
my phone is:
Unlocked Bootloader,
Rooted with SUper SU
Using TWRP
My M8 is still S-ON and still has O2s stock 4.20.201.6 (LP 501) rom on it.
Ive found a nandroid backup from O2 from here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2701376
extracted the recovery, but its 1.54.206.5
Would it be safe to flash through fastboot or would i need the matching recovery for the rom
Or because I havent done anything to the rom itself, can I simply restore recovery
Any Advice would be great
Thanks
EDIT
Hmm.... As I havent actually done anything to it, it looks like I just have to UnRoot the M8.,

Not so far as Im aware. I know Samsung include an "Easy Mode" on their devices, but i cant remember one on the M8.. Ive checked in Both "Personalise" and "Display" in Settings, but I cant see an Easy mode.
Unless it was removed in LP 501, I dont know
It should be under Settings>Personalise>Home (or it is for me on the unbranded 4.16.401.10 build)
Ah I'm o2 branded so I presume o2 took it out or mine has bug it runs perfect no issues at all just no Easymode tried installing Google now launcher see if that made it shows to no avail and I'm 4.20.206.1 Build
