Slow messaging app? - HTC 10 Questions & Answers

Hi everyone,
Thanks for everything that everyone's been posting about the phone lately! I'm loving my HTC 10, however I noticed that my Messaging app is insanely slow when it comes time to type a reply or anything.
It seems like the keyboard is lagging whenever I'm typing a message, and this only happens in the messaging app when I'm typing in the message box. Is this the case with anyone else? Whenever I'm outside of the app, typing something is perfectly fine. I'm using Textra instead for the time being, but I just want to know if anyone else is having the same issue.

I've noticed the same thing as well. I've found that deleting all threads and starting fresh does help.

I've noticed this as well. I like using htc's messaging app so lets hope they release a fix soon.

I was just about to come on here to post the same thing! Something is definitely up with the stock messaging app. Typing is fine on other apps, but slow and laggy with the stock messaging app.

I'm also seeing the issue on the stock app, especially with Google keyboard.

I'm currently experiencing lag in any app that has typing. Tapatalk, Stock messenger, Google Messenger, Twitter, etc. Anyone else have this issue??

What keyboard are you using? I'm using SwiftKey, not the default keyboard. Also it may help your case by clearing the default keyboard app cache.

Google Keyboard and I've given that a shot. It's not a constant issue but it does happen frequently.

I use SwiftKey and also tried clearing my text messages, but typing is still very slow in the stock messaging app.

Anyone else still noticing this? I can't believe how laggy the keyboard is when typing in the messaging app.

Stock app is laggy
I use hangouts. no issues.

I've given up on the stock app due to lag and went with textra. After using it for a few days I actually wonder why I didnt make the switch awhile ago. It's a damn good messaging app. my favorite features by far are the quick reply and customization.

[Q] messaging app INCREDIBLY SLOW!

using the newest version on Fresh. Everything great except when i open the stock messaging app. the app itself is quick but when i compose a new message it takes forever for the evo to recognize the name from my contacts.
Anyone have this experience. Is there a fix?
I would say to wipe data/ cache and try again. Do a nandroid and or titanium backup first.
Also you can try an alternate messaging app to see if you got the same issue. To me handcent is very impressive and many users seems to use it over the stock HTC app...
Good luck
I am also having issues with any messaging app being incredibly slow, almost unusable. I had been using fresh and when i updated to the newest froyo version this all came about. Once in the messaging app any action takes 5-6 seconds to result in completion. I was using chomp and the native app seems to respond better but not by much.

Keyboard issues with messaging app?

I've only had this phone for like two days and just experienced issues with my keyboard (Swype and stock Android keyboard) not typing into the text input box of my messaging app. This doesn't always happen, but I've noticed that it does this when unlocking the phone to the messaging app already open. I've even made sure that the input box was selected multiple times, changed keyboards, etc. the only solution is to exit the messaging app and re open it, which gets annoying really quick. Anyone else getting this issue? I'm on Android 4.0.2 Gsm model

[Q] Facebook app - major battery drain

Has anyone experienced this before with the Facebook app? Something's throwing it for a loop! It only seemed to start with the latest app update. However, I am also using TeslaUnread with Nova Prime (I also use Pushbullet, but disabled the notification push for Facebook). Guess that's a place to start, disabling Tesla for Facebook and see where that takes me. The investigation continues, but I thought I'd post here to see if anyone else has seen this before with a similar config.

Use Greenify
Yep greenify
Thanks guys, will look into that.
Go into app settings in Facebook and disable sync and refresh time to never. That slows Facebook battery drain. Good luck

Yes, saw that one day. It was surprising just how bad it was. I uninstalled Facebook, reset, and reinstalled later. It's been fine since, but the problem may recur (I don't know why it happened in the first place).

I went ahead and set the app to never auto-refresh (looks like it doesn't affect the notifications, so that's good), since I don't need my news feed updating every hour when I can just do that when I go into the app. I've been just closing the app completely every time I'm done using it for the past few days, but I think I'll give it another go letting it run in the background, and see how it does. I did notice a couple other people mentioned bad Note 4 battery on the latest reviews in the Play Store.

[Q] Lollipop: Contact Pictures in 3rd Party Apps Not Showing After Update

I use Textra as my SMS app. On 4.4.4 Kit Kat, my AT&T Note 4 displayed contact pics pulled from Facebook in Textra. Yesterday, I updated, then factory reset the phone, then reinstalled all of my apps. Now Textra will not show any contact pictures, just their initials. The pis do come up in the contacts app and the Messages app.
I know that there was an issue with 3rd party apps having difficulty using facebook photos. But I thought that was an old issue. On Kit Kat, with no root or extra apps, Textra worked fine on my Note 4.
Have I missed a setting somewhere?
Dave
There were some strange problems with contact pictures not syncing on the nexus 5 and 6 on 5.0.1. The 5.1 update fixed these.
Not sure if this is the same problem, but thought i'd mention.
I use Textra as well and my Facebook contact photos show up just fine. You might have to relink your contacts or sync again in the Facebook app

FIXED!
I uninstalled Textra; and then reinstalled it. It is now working perfectly with all of the contact pics now showing.
Last night, I set up FB after using Textra. So I guess that was the problem. Good to know in case anyone else runs in to the problem.

Can't send/reply to texts

Wondering if anyone else encountered this problem. I am no longer able to reply to text messages via the Zenwatch. Cards are only being presented like regular cards with only the options to open the app on the phone or block it. This is now happening using the native message app and GoSMS. I've tried resetting the watch and everything. Anyone experience this and was able to fix it?

I had the same problem. I downloaded Google messenger and now everything works fine.

Does Messenger have to be your default app?
I believe so.
