Memory Card Corrupt Issue - G3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I reccently bought a 32gb kingston class 10 mmc. After inserting in my phone, it is showing mmc corrupted, tap to fix. No matter how many times I format, the same happened. For a couple of minutes it is reading and after a few minutes its showing corrupt error.
I am shocked to see that the files in Internal storage are hidden. My Music player showing no Music. My gallery not displaying more than half of the files. Even the locked image files in gallery are not shown. Someone in this forums said me to change the kernel.
Could anyone help me with the above issue? If kernel changing is the only solution, then which is the best kernel for LG LS990(Sprint)?
Thanku

Hi. What I found was the issue is only with the kingston mmc. Dnt know why, but it is the issue with. The kingston mmc is working fine in other phones except in fulmics. Bought sandisk 32gb class 10 and the card is working superfine in fulmics.
So for the guys who r facing issues with mmc, better change the mmc and check. Dnt buy kingston if you are using custom roms as i came to know lot of users are facing same issue only with kingston. ??

Fulmics has an issue with exFAT but not FAT32. Format the SD card to FAT32. The Kingston SD card is probably exFAT and the Sandisk SD card is probably FAT32, I had to install a custom kernel to get my 64GB SD card to work as FAT32 is limited to 32GB and smaller SD cards.

I use solid kernel but xceed kernel is great as well. All you need to do is download the right version for your phone, in twrp wipe cache and dalvak cache, then flash the kernel and boot into Android, that's it, it's very easy, just make sure you make a backup.

Nope. If it says it's corrupt after a reboot just remove the card and put it back in and it will work ( that's a MM bug on most ROMs and kernels).

The same as the SD card issue I had, however some people report fixes for the same issue they've described that haven't worked for me. Eventually messing around I came with a fix and I posted it here in a reply to my own thread on it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/help/lg-d855-sd-card-corrupt-issue-t3393511
Just offering another solution I know works at least in one case but, no guarantee its the exact same issue

We can also format 64 gb mmc wid fat32 file system. Im using verizon model and it is not supported by xceed kernel and with solid kernel i face wake up lag on fulmics 5.3 rom. So i just just googled how to format mmc with fat32 file system. Now im using my Samsung 64gb card on fulmics 5.3 without any hassle of custom kernel.

The issue there is that FAT32 is not meant for storage devices larger than 32GB. And the so called "hassle" of a custom kernel is a personal opinion, I have been using custom kernels for some time and prefer them to stock kernels. It's not hard to flash a custom kernel anyway.

[Q] Flashed to CM10M1 now having SD problems

I just flashed to CM10M1 and it now tells me that my SD is damaged. I have tried to format it using the phone but the unmounting seems to be taking really long. I have already tried formatting it on my PC, which works, as well as transferring files over, which also works, but when I put it into my phone i comes up with the same error. It is a SanDisk 64GB Mobile Ultra MicroSDXC Class 10. Any help?

I've heard some people had a problem after flashing CM10 with backups done with ROM manager. They said deleting the backups solved it, which doesn't really make sense if you've already formatted the card on your computer, but maybe it'll lead you in the right direction.

What format are you running? I think it has a problem with exFAT format.
Running exfat, will try reformatting to NTFS and will get back to you

Try FAT32. It worked for me. It does say ready to be removed in your storage settings but you should also be able to see the external SD card. Use Solid Explorer and see if you can see the external SD.

I suggest you read this thread. A lot of members have had sdcard issues. Good luck!

Btw, I have been using a 64GB SanDisk Ultra Class 10 for over 6 months with no issues. All my music, videos, ROMs backups etc are stored on the card. It gets heavy usage.. the biggest common denominator of the thread appears too be that the size of the card is the main issue and not the brand. 32GB cards are having the most problems.

Hard to say when you didn’t tell us what kind of SD card it is, what size, and how long you have had it. You need to give more information.
If it is a 64 GB card, it is because android natively does not support exFAT file systems for storage. Your issue is that the format is not compatible. In this case, flash perseus kernel found in the original android development section. Problem solved.
If it is an SD card of 32 GB or less, the issue is likely that you need to just format it. In this case just find an adapter to plug it into your PC, when the little window pops up asking you what you want to do “open folder to view files etc etc” all that… just close that window. Open some other folder (doesn’t matter which one) and on the left side you will see the drive shown. It will probably show up as F: or something… maybe G: … maybe Z:… who knows… but it will NOT be C:… C is your computer drive, don’t touch that.
Find the storage device on the left side, RIGHT click on it, and select “format”….
UNCHECK the “quick format option”…
For the file system select “FAT32” and for the cluster size select 32kb… (default is 16, but 32 is better and will provide better performance.)
Start the formatting. It will take a while… so go grab some lunch. If that doesn’t solve the issue then I don’t know what to tell you without more information but my guess after that would be that you have had the card for a while and it simply needs to be replaced.
What size card is it, what class, and who makes it?

That's weird my 64GB SanDisk Class10 card, that I have been using for months on my Note 2, is exfat and I haven't had a single issue with it.
My card was exfat right out of the box and that is how I used it. Right out of the box. I have NEVER formatted it.
Edit.
I'm on Tweaked now. Before that Stock Android.

[Q] Fail to download and or write to SD.

I have scandisk class 10 SD card 64 GB.
its formatted using the note 8 device (exFAT).
Whenever I try to download a file or copy a file in note 8 to the SD. It fails and reboots my device. knowing that reading from the SD is perfect. I can play music and movies from SD with no issues.
the only way I can transfer files to the SD if I connect the SD to the PC directly.
I am not sure if this is an issue with Note 8 or SD. please help!
Mine does the same thing. Ive tried formatting in exfat and fat32, didnt help. It writes fine to an old 16gb class 4 card ive got but not the 64gb. Sucks but at least it reads fine

I am not using any custom Roms. And i formatted my sandisk ultra 64gb more than three times but the same issue keeps happening. I also tried to find other apps to transfer movies and music files from Iinternal memory to sd but that didn't help. I can't even download directly to my sd. It reboots my note 8 if I try to download or transfer files to my sd.
Any suggestions?

I'm afraid nothing beyond painfully obvious ones - trying with another similar card, trying the card on any other device supporting exfat (if ok, this would provide definitive proof that card is ok), trying on freshly installed latest ROM, trying with the same card formatted in fat32.

It seems like this is the last resort. I will reformat my note 8 and try again. I also forgot to mention, that few weeks ago I was able to transfer one 800 mb file but this stopped happening. So it seems like there is not enough memory to transfer although I tried clearing the memory.
I will let you know if this reformatting the note 8 will fix the problem.

SD card problem.

Hi i have 2 sdcards one 16GB class 4 and one 64GB class 10. When i use the 64GB sdcard to install roms, it always shows installation aborted. I am only able to install roms using my 16Gb sdcard.

2) And anyways to solve this problem?

You may be better off posting this in the thread of the roms you're trying to install.
I may be wrong but aren't some kernels limited to using fat/fat32 etc?
Or of course your 64er could be going faulty?

I've had this problem multiple times with multiple Samsung phones. At this point, I'm pretty sure it's the hardware of the phone, not your SD card, ROM, or anything else. I've went through many SD cards thinking they were defective when they were not.

What you could try (even though I don't know how Android can handle this) is to create two partitions with each 32gb on your 64gb sdcard and see whether this works or not. Other than that I don't have too many ideas left :/

you can either do it with windows (Start > Control Panel > System and Maintenance > Administrative Tools > Create and Format Hard Disk Partitions > Disk Management) or with a tool like paragon partition manager (isn't free so you'd have to search for a freeware alternative) and there you shrink your 64gb fat 32 partition to a 32gb fat32 partition and create a new partition on the remaining 32gb of unallocated space also with fat32.
your pc will recognize your sdcard as if there were two. Now that i think of it, I really am not sure whether android will recognize your 64gb or better both 32gb partitions on your phone or if Android will say that you sdcard is corrupted.
If you do that and android suggests to format your sdcard DON'T DO IT ON ANDROID. I got myself some fried sdcards there. So if it doesn't work out you can delete one of the 32gb partitions and enlarge the other again to 64gb but do that from your pc.
You'll need a card reader or usb adapter or something. It won't work with the sdcard inserted in your phone as Android now uses mtp rather than ums and you can't perform those tasks from windows with mtp.

Hmm ill give it a try later. Right now im guessing that my recovery does not support the sdcard. Im currently on CWM TOUCH 6.0.3.1. And looking for a rom with good battery life.
Guys I truly don't mean to be a stick in the mud about this, but you can search XDA and Google about this issue. A lot of people are having this exact same issue. That's why I said a 64 may or may not work with other brands, but the Samsung cards seem to always work like their suppose to (given they aren't defective). There are a few other threads about this on the forums as well. If you do by chance get it working please do share, and perhaps PM a mod and see if you can post a guide on it.
Note 2 has problems with some 64Gb card due to (here: my speculation) bad power supply and stabilization.
Kingston 64/10 makes my Note 2 unhappy.
Sandisk 64/U1 more or less stable with FAT32 but makes instability issues with exFAT.
Sandisk 32/10 and Kingston 32/10 are fully OK with FAT32.

Steps taken
Formatted on PC expat, Fat32
Checked errors on PC
Formatted using SD Formatter
Formatted on device
Formatted using twrp
Checked permissions
Changing permissions to 777 does not execute on tab.
Card works fine on PC, mac & my s5.

Would appreciate a solution,
Thanks.

You need root access to write to the sd card or use the stock file manager.
If your 64gb card has write access then I guess you already have root. So must be the card. My Samsung evo 128gb works fine.
I have an Samsung 128gb working on my T800 10.5" with no problems.
Do a full format with the app below on your notebook then format it in your T705
https://www.sdcard.org/downloads/formatter_4/
John.
I had a SanDisk Ultra 128GB card that was behaving similarly. I too used the sdcard.org formatter, thinking that would be the fix.
It wasn't.
I found a tool called "h2testw" online, and tested the card. It failed in a big way.
Arranged an RMA with SanDisk and they replaced it within a couple of weeks. New card not only passed the h2testw tests, but now works perfectly as well.
Between cameras, cell-phones, portable-audio devices, etc., I must have 30+ SanDisk (the only brand I buy) cards, and not one had ever given me a problem until that one.
So, while rare, it happens. It would be worth the time to test it for read/write errors to at least eliminate that as a possibility.
