I have scandisk class 10 SD card 64 GB.
its formatted using the note 8 device (exFAT).
Whenever I try to download a file or copy a file in note 8 to the SD. It fails and reboots my device. knowing that reading from the SD is perfect. I can play music and movies from SD with no issues.
the only way I can transfer files to the SD if I connect the SD to the PC directly.
I am not sure if this is an issue with Note 8 or SD. please help!
Mine does the same thing. Ive tried formatting in exfat and fat32, didnt help. It writes fine to an old 16gb class 4 card ive got but not the 64gb. Sucks but at least it reads fine

I am not using any custom Roms. And i formatted my sandisk ultra 64gb more than three times but the same issue keeps happening. I also tried to find other apps to transfer movies and music files from Iinternal memory to sd but that didn't help. I can't even download directly to my sd. It reboots my note 8 if I try to download or transfer files to my sd.
Any suggestions?

I'm afraid nothing beyond painfully obvious ones - trying with another similar card, trying the card on any other device supporting exfat (if ok, this would provide definitive proof that card is ok), trying on freshly installed latest ROM, trying with the same card formatted in fat32.

It seems like this is the last resort. I will reformat my note 8 and try again. I also forgot to mention, that few weeks ago I was able to transfer one 800 mb file but this stopped happening. So it seems like there is not enough memory to transfer although I tried clearing the memory.
I will let you know if this reformatting the note 8 will fix the problem.

Reformatting the device didnt fix my issue. I am not sure now if it is the device or the SD. I need to test my sd in other devices and check if it will allow transferring of files
I am having the same issue as well. I try to move files from my internal too my external card and device reboots. I have the SanDisk 64GB card as well, it works fine in my S4. Could it be a software issue on the Samsung side?

I just flashed to CM10M1 and it now tells me that my SD is damaged. I have tried to format it using the phone but the unmounting seems to be taking really long. I have already tried formatting it on my PC, which works, as well as transferring files over, which also works, but when I put it into my phone i comes up with the same error. It is a SanDisk 64GB Mobile Ultra MicroSDXC Class 10. Any help?

I've heard some people had a problem after flashing CM10 with backups done with ROM manager. They said deleting the backups solved it, which doesn't really make sense if you've already formatted the card on your computer, but maybe it'll lead you in the right direction.

What format are you running? I think it has a problem with exFAT format.
Running exfat, will try reformatting to NTFS and will get back to you

Try FAT32. It worked for me. It does say ready to be removed in your storage settings but you should also be able to see the external SD card. Use Solid Explorer and see if you can see the external SD.
Every time I flash anything based on the official JB 4.1.1 release, my 32GB MicroSD card (Patriot brand?) freaks out. The phone will say it's "unexpectedly removed" and then adds it back in, and removes it, over and over.
It's happened on all three JB 4.1.1 ROM's I've tried.
I thought my MicroSD was going bad so I low-level formatted it in Windows (hated doing this) and still had trouble. But ONLY with the card in the phone. Windows usually liked the card just fine.
So what I did to resolve it was use Titanium Backup Pro to "freeze" the "MTP Application". After doing that, my MicroSD works great in the phone and AFAIK, I haven't lost any functionality. So I'm not sure what the "MTP Application" is or does, but so far.... so good.
This post is just a heads up to others, in case anyone else runs into this problem.
Or in case anyone wants to tell me WTF is wrong.
Ive had this issue as well twice. Both times I had to format the sd card in my pc and it will work fine for a while. Im curious to know if you are using es file explorer? Im thinking it might have something to do with this issue.

Hmm come to think of it I just recently purchased root explorer about the time all this started but surely an app couldn't cause this issue? Heck I dont know it happens so random it hard to pinpoint the problem thats causing it. If I figure it out I will let you know
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using Tapatalk 2
Ive been trying to duplicate the problem all day with no success. However I have froze the MTP app so maybe thats what the cause is? Would you happen to be using a sandisk micro sd? Because I am..
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using Tapatalk 2
Ahh hah I duplicated the problem on my phone anyway. I used the my file app to move a rather large file from the internal sd to my external sd and afterwards it lost connection. I had to remove the sd card and install it several times to get it to mount back again. Im not sure if its the moving of the file or the my files app itself that is doing it. I also noticed the media scanner isnt running after moving the file. So I hadnt pinpointed the exact cause but im dang sure getting closer. And I dont think its a bad sd card because I tried another and it did it with it too
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using Tapatalk 2
You were able to duplicate it even with MTP frozen?
Wow, I have yet to recreate the issue with MTP frozen.
My SD is a Patriot brand. Purchased at Fry's Electronics.

Yea it happened with MTP frozen and unfrozen. Ive tried freezing the my files app and every file explorer on my phone. I just cant put my finger on the cause it happens so random. But it seems me and you are the only ones having this issue so im wondering if we didnt get a bad flash when we updated. When I updated via kies it did not do a full wipe update it did what is known as a dirty flash which I never do because you end up with issues like this. So if we continue to ask each other questions we will eventually figure out what the common link as far as if its an app we are using and things like that.
So did you update via kies or odin?
If you updated via odin where did you get your firmware file file from and if you used odin was it odin on the pc or mobile odin?
And was your update a full or a dirty flash?
We are gonna figure this thing out one day lol.....
Edit.... well apparently we are not the only ones having this issue. Over on droid forums there are several s3'owners most on t mobile but anyway it appears there are a few phones out there with this problem and the only fix is to replace the phone and sd card because the phone ruins the card by unmounting it without stopping it first. My phone is still under warranty so I will be calling ATT tomorrow for them to replace my phone and throw a fit for them to replace my micro sd. I paid 48 bucks for this card and I think ATT should replace it since their faulty phone ruined the card
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using Tapatalk 2
Wow.
I had the problem with two or three different ROM flashes. So it wasn't just one ROM flash.
Each time, freezing MTP Application has resolved the issue for me.
I'm going on ~4 days now with my current ROM and no more issues since freezing MTP.
Maybe there are a couple different SD card related issues out there.
I had the same problem with ADATA and Kingston brand sd cards. I tried the Sandisk 8GB from my old phone and no problems so far.
Freezing the mtp app has seemed to slow it down. The only problem with freezing mtp is that is how the phone mounts to the pc. Mine just did it again but I unfroze mtp to hook my phone to the pc and right after I backed some stuff up and unplugged it, before I could freeze mtp again it unmounted the card. Ive also tried several different sd cards and several different sizes even tried a 2gb Samsung card with the same results. Im thinking hard about going back to ics to see if that will resolve the issue. ...

I found that my 64GB card was not recognized by the newer kernels - when I use the older kernels or stock, it is recognized, otherwise, the ROM attempts to read the card, and then states it is 'ready to be removed'.

Try reformatting the 64gb card to a fat 32 file system. 64gb cards come formatted exfat and some s3's have had trouble reading them. Put it in a pc into the card reader and open my computer. Then right click on the drive thats showing your card. Ex drive E or F. Mine is drive N. Once you right click on it click format and a box will pop up and you will see the box that says exfat. Click the drop down box and change it to fat32 then click format and your done. Once it finishes put it in your phone and it should recognize it...

Well my 64gb micro sd came today from Amazon and from what ive read on xda and the net I would need to change the file system from exfat to fat32. So I put it in the pc pull up mini tools partition wizard and it gives me no option to format it, I try windows no option for fat32 only ntfs or exfat so I try a couple of others with the same results. Then I try hp format tool and finally format it to fat32 then put it in my phone and it says its damaged and needs formatting so I do and put it back in the pc and im back to exfat. So it seems to only work in my phone in the exfat format soooo im just gonna leave it alone. Oh I even tried formatting it in command prompt and changing the file format and it fails so now im starting to wonder if thats what happened to my old 32gb card and why I suddenly starting having trouble out of it when I updated to jb is because it was fat32. Maybe this new jb dont handle fat32 well or maybe my s3 dont like fat32. Hell I guess its just a mystery. ....
So I would suggest if your having sd issues try formatting your card to exfat and see if that helps the connection issues

it was working well until recently, thought it was a problem with intergalactic rom, but noticed a few others having the same issue on other roms, was curious to see if anyone found a fix?
tried another rom and still no luck,

working with a 32gb memory card, don't believe its class 10 but don't have it infront of me right now.

did you ever format your sd card to fat32 before? or is it still exfat?
remember touchwiz roms use exfat, while aosp roms use fat32.
Just an fyi although its pia,
Its always best to format sd card via your phone. Save yes files then use your phone to format.
Having said this, if you lose anything try

Give it time... may seem slow but its working.
Works with sd or any hard drive probably phone internsl mem as well.

I may be wrong but aren't some kernels limited to using fat/fat32 etc?
Or of course your 64er could be going faulty?

I've had this problem multiple times with multiple Samsung phones. At this point, I'm pretty sure it's the hardware of the phone, not your SD card, ROM, or anything else. I've went through many SD cards thinking they were defective when they were not.

What you could try (even though I don't know how Android can handle this) is to create two partitions with each 32gb on your 64gb sdcard and see whether this works or not. Other than that I don't have too many ideas left :/

you can either do it with windows (Start > Control Panel > System and Maintenance > Administrative Tools > Create and Format Hard Disk Partitions > Disk Management) or with a tool like paragon partition manager (isn't free so you'd have to search for a freeware alternative) and there you shrink your 64gb fat 32 partition to a 32gb fat32 partition and create a new partition on the remaining 32gb of unallocated space also with fat32.
your pc will recognize your sdcard as if there were two. Now that i think of it, I really am not sure whether android will recognize your 64gb or better both 32gb partitions on your phone or if Android will say that you sdcard is corrupted.
If you do that and android suggests to format your sdcard DON'T DO IT ON ANDROID. I got myself some fried sdcards there. So if it doesn't work out you can delete one of the 32gb partitions and enlarge the other again to 64gb but do that from your pc.
You'll need a card reader or usb adapter or something. It won't work with the sdcard inserted in your phone as Android now uses mtp rather than ums and you can't perform those tasks from windows with mtp.

Hmm ill give it a try later. Right now im guessing that my recovery does not support the sdcard. Im currently on CWM TOUCH 6.0.3.1. And looking for a rom with good battery life.
Guys I truly don't mean to be a stick in the mud about this, but you can search XDA and Google about this issue. A lot of people are having this exact same issue. That's why I said a 64 may or may not work with other brands, but the Samsung cards seem to always work like their suppose to (given they aren't defective). There are a few other threads about this on the forums as well. If you do by chance get it working please do share, and perhaps PM a mod and see if you can post a guide on it.
Note 2 has problems with some 64Gb card due to (here: my speculation) bad power supply and stabilization.
Kingston 64/10 makes my Note 2 unhappy.
Sandisk 64/U1 more or less stable with FAT32 but makes instability issues with exFAT.
Sandisk 32/10 and Kingston 32/10 are fully OK with FAT32.

I am having problems with my external SD card. It is a 32GB Sandisk card. I can create directories under /extSDCard and copy files to those directories. However if I reboot my phone all of the directories and files are gone. I went to setting/storage and select the external sdcard. The system tells me it is blank. I see in the notifications something about a blank sd card and something about unsupported files. I then tap that and it gives me the option to format it which I select. When I do that it immediately reboots and I am in the same boat as before I started. Basically I have an unusable SD Card. This card used to work but some time ago I accidentally formatted it in TWRP and sort quit using it for a while until today. Does anyone have any idea what is going on? I am running AOKP if it makes any difference.
Might have a bad SD card on your hands. But you didn't mention trying to format it on a PC instead of the phone. Then try transferring some stuff over to it again too see it it's ok. Just use the pc to drop a few files on it b4 placing it back in the phone...
If no quirky then possible dead sd. What size? Anything under 64 very inexpensive to replace on Amazon.com

Unfortunately I think the card is damaged. I formatted it on a PC and put it back in my phone and still see the same behavior. I then put it in another phone and although the format went as one would expect that phone reports the card as damaged.
Sandisk cards have issues with the Note 2. My Sandisk card went crazy after being in my Note 2. I just bought a Samsung card and haven't had issues at all.

Yes I just found out the card does work. It was actually a 64GB card. I put it in my tablet and it worked fine so I took the exact same model of Sandisk card that was in the tablet and put it in the Note 2 and I see the exact same behavior as the other card(blank sd and reboots if I try to format).
The card worked before I installed AOKP on the phone. I wonder if it is AOKP or the Note 2? This weekend I guess I will restore the backup I took before I installed AOKP to find out.

Good luck!
I just put that Sandisk card that freaked out in my Note 2, in my Note 1 and it works fine. I think it's the Note 2. If you google the issue, you'll see a whole bunch of forum posts here and other forums talking about it.

I took your advice and ordered a Samsung card. I really don't want to restore back to stock and get the KNOX update so I will stick with AOKP. I agree I don't think AOKP is the problem.
