worth updating? - HTC 10 Questions & Answers

Hi All,
I'm using LeeDrOiD Rom on my HTC10 and that rom is 1.30 based and I flashed it over my 1.2 base (ee uk) with no issues, works like a dream.
But after seeing the 1.30 RUU for WWE today, I was wondering if it's necessary/essential I update my base Rom to match?
I'm s-off and have super cid so I was just wondering if it should be done asap rather than later and if the RUU is the best way because ota seems more of a pain in the a$$ than a RUU.
Cheers all.

No special need to upgrade, afaik it's only been a software update and thats what you have now because you installed 1.30 leedroid rom. If you have no issues i would keep it like this. Since you are s-off updating will be easy in the future. Don't fix something that isn't broken, upgrade the firmware when it's necessary.

Epic. I'm delighted to hear that, got it all set up and running the way I want, I didn't feel like setting up from scratch again. Thanks @Mr Hofs

No problem, if it's necessary or mandatory to upgrade you will definitely be notified in the rom thread.

No doubt @Mr Hofs, thanks again.

Just tried it on a rooted hero, worked fine, it's now 2.1 HTC stock rom and everything seems to work fine (non-root).

If you run one of these RUU's you will not only lose root, you will lose the ability to root ever again.

I know people who changed ROM via OTA to 2.1 and back to the 1.5 by flashing extracted parts of RUU via fastboot
The rom put out ota and the ruu are not quite the same rom.

Any idea on difference?
What one is better?
I believe HTC made some errors that could cause problems in the ota.
The actual roms itself are the same, however the RUU is harder/impossible to root.
Stupid question... but I wonder if these have the missing G-sensor calibration from the OTA's? (probably not)
thanks for the files! def needed these
I've tried the wwe one but I have a custm id error. What can I do now?
Thanks for these, exactly what I needed. Bought an import phone from China with the localized apps/language settings which I wasn't particularly fond of (Already 2.1 unrootable). Not too fussed about root just yet really
Hi!!
Can any1 please "RUU_Hero_hTC_Asia_India_3.31.720.2_R_Radio_63.18.55.06O_6.35.15.01_release_signed.exe" root this and convert to update.zip so can be used on rooted Hero?

No it does not have G-sensor calibration.
But I must say, that after a day or so I'm impressed with this ROM. Wether it will be rootable in the future or not is another issue, but for now it's working very very nice. Speed & Battery is better than any of the custom roms I've tried (pretty much every rom there is...)
I'm looking for RUU HTC Hero Asia SEA 3.34.707.1. Does anyone have it? Does anyone know where to get it?

Thanks... so I do need to downgrade... the HTC stocks app is sucking up my data plan dry and I don't even use it... so I really need TB to freeze it... it uses up about 20 megs a day... I already disabled it sync and all, but still no effect... still uses up all my data...

Tried to downgrade, but keep getting a Model ID error, so I can't downgrade... was doing the downgrade instructions at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=905261 but I'm stuck at step 11, which is installing that lower version rom.... tried to create goldcard, still no... was reading further and maybe a little info should help
Bought phone, rooted through visionary... and that's it... no s-off, no supercid, etc... so I guess I'm screwed (or stuck with this) until they get a workaround about this... am I right? or can I still downgrade?
Whoa, I think I was able to downgrade using the official 1.34 update posted here on XDA... I'm not sure if I can root and s-off, but I'd do my best to see if I can....
Android version:
2.2
Baseband:
12.28b.60.140eU_26.03.02.18_M3
Kernel:
2.6.32.21 Oct 18 2010
Build:
1.34.66.1
eff yeah, I think I got root and s-off (I don't care about sim unlock, I "unlocked" my phone way back already, where I had to pay and didn't know I can unlock this for free)
gotta check it out now, will report back
** what I did, well, I did the tutorials, and failed.... did a little bit of research and said that I can "probably" downgrade by "updating" to an older version,... so I went ahead and tried,.. I downloaded the 1.34 posted here at XDA, and installed it on the PC.. it went through it's thing... phone restarded like new, went through the setup, checked "about phone" and I did downgrade to 1.34... so now, not wasting anytime did the rooting and s-off process.... WIN!

Downgrading 2.50.405.2 to 1.32 ?

Hi,
I just got my dhd back from repair and they updated it to 2.50.405.2 -.-
Is this downgradable yet to root ? I ****in hate standard roms
Please help..
Thanks
i think versions above 2.37 can't be downgraded yet.
i am waiting for downgrade of 2.42 as well. just wait
I to have 2.50.405.2 after repair.
I found rooted this version
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1155634&highlight=2.50.405.2
But dont know will it help to change ROM.
If some one will find some solution please share it.
gingerbreak 1.2 not working with 2.50
Well, u need clockworkmod to flash it which u need rom manager for. And for rom manager u need root
I think we'll have to wait.. But the 2.37+ downgrade has been in development for about 2 months now.. Taking way to long
Probably waiting to see which bootloaders are unlocked, as promised.
Due out in September.

If u are S-OFF then u can downgrade to 2.36 by using the RUU version then root ur device,
edit:- i´ve done it more than 3times after updating from 2.36 to 2.50 "OTA" (believe me u can)
U can get the 2.36 ruu here:-

So,if i'm novice and i don't have s-off with 2.50 only thing i can do is wait for downgrade?is that right?

Thanks a lot ,,, Guide from JSLEnterprises was so amazing and very helpful
can't wait to get my new ROM !

Thank you so much.
Now moving on to flash another rom, and try and figure the whole fing about the radio out..

Trivial Question
I have a trivial question, I am very interested in rooting using this method, however I have recently encountered an issue with my stock rom ever since I did the OTA update to 2.43.611.1 The issue is HTC Sence has stopped unexpectedly window pops up quite often & in talking to telus my provider & HTC them selves, they both say the phone needs to be repaired,
My question since I encountered the problem immediatly upon doing the OTA update should I get it repaired first or just try rooting to see if that fixes it.
Also if possible can I be pointed in the direction of how to return to stock Telus if I end up rooting & the probelm still persists?
My thanks to thoes who have diligently be working & involved in helping others & myself reach root status on higher Build numbers.
Great Work!

The reason you're getting the error after the ota update is the same reason why people get issues after installing custom roms and not wiping their device... the old cache and user data conflicts with the update.
Downgrading and then flashing a custom rom along with flashing an updated radio will remedy the problem. I dont believe you'll want to use the initial radio release, I highly recommend flashing the radio from the 2.52 korean release to your Telus DHD, along with the ril's from that release and replacing the ones in the rom you will flash via cwm recovery. ENG S-OFF is required to flash a new radio or recovery img.
Once you downgrade, you can always return to the stock 2.43.661.1 rom. There is a thread in the Desire HD/Inspire 4G Forum on Driphter.com where I've placed the RUU's of common builds (especially for Telus and AT&T). If returning the device for warranty purposes, you must Radio S-On prior to Installing the stock rom via the RUU. The RUU Itself will set ENG to SHIP, and unroot.
Excellent, Greatly appreciated.
Might try rooting as soon as tonight. Kind of excited to have a functional device again!
I am glad that it worked, i thought OH **** the other day, when i found out that i shouldn't have updated to 2.50, if i was about to root..
Big thanks to you JSL, nice work, and easy tuturial!!
I can see that in /HTC ACE TOOLKIT
is a splash screen changer, and a boot animation changer.. how do i use them?
Cheers guys I will try that downgrade guide. Just a note though. The file fize of the version of HTC Sync for the Desire HD I'm downloading is 66.6MB. I hope that isn't an omen for this to go horrendously wrong

install OTA update?

Hi all,
I am new here after retiring my broke dinc 1 and getting a replacement dinc2 from Asurion. I am still completely stock except for a hack on the phone to allow me to tether (no download was required).
My phone currently has software # 5.10605.9 and I was not able to run the s-off tool. I read there is an ICS OTA due soon so I thought I would just wait for that before going s-off or rooting. My only immediate need for root is so I can have Nandroid and Titanium backups. The sooner the better for that but I can wait for stock ICS before considering any custom ROMs.
I have an OTA update now that I have rejected. It says :
ADR6350_6.01.605.05-5.10.605.9
I assume this would upgrade me to 6.01.605.05 So should I let it install?
Thanks!
If you want to root/s-off dont apply that update!! You loose the ability to until you downgrade the software again which is a pain in the ass. As for not being able to currently get s-off you're gonna have to wait for some other people here to help, they can help you troubleshoot the problem.

Thanks Triscuit,
That is what I suspected from looking around the forum. What confuses me is that I already could not run the Revolution s-off. If i don't have that latest firmware why can't I s-off now? Is it more a root issue?
You have to downgrade to 2.3.3 and hboot 97 first.

If I wait for the ICS update with this issue go away or is the downgrade going to remain a necessity to root and s-off?
Each OTA is making s-off much more difficult. Honestly, I would downgrade your. 98hboot & s-off now. We have a very stable ICS sense 4 ROM.

Thanks, I will take your advice. Just to be certain, the warnings about not downgrading due to bootloops is for those who have the 6.01.605.05 installed so I should be fine?
That's not an issue anymore. It was in the beginning. But it was a problem that occurred after downgrading and s-off. So how knows if the ICS ota will be worse or even down-gradable.
Great, question resolved. I will happily be going s-off and rooting soon. As always the XDA community comes through for me. Thanks guys!
Actually being on the newest firmware is still an issue. Once you have been on the most recent OTA you have to run the most recent radio to run any Sense rom. The 0312 radio really sucks and does not have near as good of reception as previous ones. Do as these guys have said S Off and root now. This way you dont have to worry about it and by all means dont take the ICS OTA when or if it ever comes. Im sure once its out it wont take long before we have a flashable version.

Branded phone and future custom ROMS

Hi all, I've now a Vodafone branded phone, as for now I only have to wait for official updates (I'm no rooted and locked bootloader), I was thinking of what will happen when no more official updates are released, will I be able to install custom ROMS with the latest Android distribution or will I be stuck on the last one I will have officially received?
Because as for now I can't update to custom jb ROMS due to the incompatible hboot, bus as far as htc doesn't release more official updates shouldn't the hboot be the same for everyone?
I know this couldn't be a clear explanation, sorry for that, but I need to know if I've to sell my phone to get an unbranded one or not... I'd like to be able to use this phone as long as I don't break it, so this is so important to me,
Thanks
Sent from my HTC One X using xda app-developers app
you just have to wait longer, you will get your JB update. Every hox will get it. Unbranded have it earlier because the provider don't need to add bloatware !
If HTC pushes out a update you will also get it, doesn't matter if you have vodaphone or any other provider.
This also counts for future updates.
Yes, i know that, my thoughts were for when htc will not release updates anymore, what will happen then? Will we be able to flash custom ROMS based in aosp builds or not because of the hboot?

I think he wanted to know if he will get his JB update, will he be able to flash custom roms which need a newer hboot.
So as far as i know, if you get your OTA update, your hboot will also be updated to the new hboot and then you will be able to use all the custom roms which need the new hboot.
But nobody knows what will be if newer versions of Android will come out, maybe they will need again a newer hboot version. And as long as you have a carrier branded device you will always need to wait for your carrier update.
If the Dev's could achieve S-Off there wouldn't be a problem, but so far nobody has made it.
Edit:
AOSP works better with older hboot (under 1.23), for some reason the gps and some things are broken on newer hboot (over 1.23) and they often need a seperate kernel (boot.img) to work.
But there are also a lot of custom roms for the newer hboot in the other developement section.
However i don't know if dev's will decide to work only with the never hboot in the future.
Thanks, then as I thought there is no clue of what will happen for branded phones, so going for an unbranded seems the best choice, wouldn't it?

It's always the best choice.
But much likely if HTC releases a update, the carriers will / should follow, even though they will need more time.
Also if HTC won't release any more updates we will all be stuck on the latest version and maybe devs won't be capable of developing the newest android version for our device.
And even unbranded devices need the right CID for the right update unless we have achieved S-Off.
However i think there will always be enough experimental and also stable versions for any hboot version - thx to all the devs.
I didn't consider that even unbranded phones would need the right CID and hboot, so we're all in the same boat, branded and unbranded... Won't definitely buy another phone with locked bootloader, unless the s-off has been already achieved..
Sent from my HTC One X using xda app-developers app
Because of the above I will NEVER go to a carrier store for a phone again!!
I think in a way we got unlucky this time round, since the hboot is not forward compatible with the sense ROM. Let's hope it's a one off rather than a new sinister plan, and future updates do not require an updated hboot.
Let's hope that, seriously.
Sent from my HTC One X using xda app-developers app
The very ....very best thing that could happen now is S-OFF so we can downgrade the hboot at any time so we can flash newer and older hboots in an instant !
But this is still very unlikely !
