Any way to boost the headphone volume? - Nexus 5X Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've been searching all over and can't seem to find a way. There was one guy (chenut)said to modify a mixer file, but another guy in the thread said it doesn't work on 6.0.1. Speaker volume seems to be fine, but headphone volume I have cranked and it's way too low for my liking at the gym or in my car stereo.
I am rooted and on the latest (5/06) PureNexus rom.

Use Kernel Auditor or custom kernels with their applications (ElementalX - franco.).

Use elementalx kernel and use his app to make it loud enough to blast your eardrums

[Q] Gio Volume Tweaks

Hi, I'm wondering if there are any effective software tweaks for the Gio to increase the maximum sound output, particularly from headphones?
I have looked into a number of options already and this is what I've found:
1. On some phones, there is a file /system/etc/hwVolumeFactor.cfg which has entries that control the max volume for speaker and headset. I have not been able to find this file on the Gio.
2. There is a an app called Volume Control+ which works to some extent, but it is a software solution that uses a fair bit of CPU and causes the sound to stutter on occasion which is annoying.
3. Some Galaxy phones have a headphone driver chip made by Wolfson that can be hardware tweaked by Voodoo Sound with excellent results, but AFAIK the Gio does not have such a headphone chip.
On the Gio there are two files that look like they may have something to do with sound output, but I've not been able to figure out how they might be modified to increase volume. The files are amp_gain.txt and analog_volume_table.txt
Any ideas?
i dont know for sure but after installing cm7 my headphone max volume is defibetly higher
prolly something to do with the dsp app

Hey,
Could you answer this:
Can I make my Gio louder, if I'm using GioPro_v1.4?
Thanks,
if you're so interested in, i can upload somewhere the DSPManager and then download it. Theorically it should work, on hyridan rom (based on original firmware) it works with no problems. quote me if interested

[Q] Best audio mods for Note 2?

Me myself and I are running Android Revolution HD 6.0 with Perseus 29 kernel on my grey Note 2. With this perseus kernel you have a few audio options through sTweaks but I can't get my 24bit 96Khz FLACS sound like I would like to.. The bass keeps sounding a little woozy.. I would like to have cleaner bass and a little more detailed mids.
I am doing my listening test with 3 pairs of headphones (Stock Samsung earphones, B&W C5 in-earphones and cheapass Sehnheiser HD201 headphones)
I am using different albums for my test containing: Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon, Michael Jackson - Thriller, Kendrick Lamar - Good Kid, Beatles - Love. These albums are all 24 bits and 88.2Khz or 96khz and played with Neutron Music Player.
Mods and apps I tried:
AC!D (works but better without stweaks.. stweaks seems to overrule some stuff wich results in distortion)
Awesome Beats (doesn't seem to work on my rom and kernel)
Neutron Music Player (Fine player with some nice audiophile options but poor interface)
Sony Walkman Player (Doesn't want to install)
sTweaks (Haven't found right settings for it yet and I don't want it to interfere with AC!D)
The problem is them interfering with each other.. I think AC!D does a fine job but its interfering witch sTweaks I guess.. Still some sort of distortion.
What do you run on your Note 2 to get the purest audiophile possible sound out of it? Please also note what rom and kernel you are running not every mod is compatible with every rom or kernel.
Have you tried installing Beats audio Installer [ROOT] from the Play store it helped my sound alot make sure you make a nand backup though you cant un install it.
What rom and kernel are you running this Beats installer on?
Im using omega 8.0 rom with the acid mod installed and sony walkmann player. im only using stock headphone atm but the sound is great on them.
Ive included in the post the sony walkman app that works with my note 2 and the acid mod which needs to be flashed via cwm. If this helps please hit the thanks button.

I don;t know how you find it, but I used this for a while then uninstalled as was draining my battery too quickly. Walkman standalone fine, but not with the mod. However Beats worked well with Walkman.
In my mind there is currently no doubt which kernel has the best wolfson mod: neak. It's a combination of scoobydoo and another mod whose name escapes me.
Perhaps its bass frequency tuning will remedy some of your issues. The mids are also more pronounced when using dac direct in my opinion.
All these software mods never impressed me, no offense to anyone.

Would you please comment on the ability to control the headphone amplifier and the Media Volume independently like could be performed on the SGS with Voodoo Sound? I don't have a Note 2 yet--- one of my main purchasing decisions is based on the ability to use Scoobydoo/STweaks to control the headphone amplifier volume independently. Thanks in advance.

Yes, sort of, in neak there is a volume hack similar to the one in voodoo, which makes you able to override the channel volume, so that the end result is about the same as with voodoo.
Your situation sounds very much like mine, I came from the sgs and took a leap of faith hoping that some voodoo mod would arise at some point, and it did!

Interesting, I suppose I will have to see how development for the Verizon variant goes. Hopefully, I will be able to find a way to get Scooby/STweaks working like Voodoo. It is hard to try until I get the device, but my upgrade is at the end of the week!

In case anybody cares, Perseus kernel with Stweaks allows to independently control headphone amplifier volume and media volume. It is essentially the same features as Voodoo, but without the Voodoo app. It is under the Audio section of Stweaks.
Awesome!
ok i got a pair f beats solo and they are overwellmed if i turn up the volume all the way up ... and i was able to do that by frst rooting my device and flashing UNEAK kernel it comes with wolfson audio and just go to play store and download uNEAK engine app and you will have close to pc sound out of your note 2 just make sure your headphones can handle the power your phone will put out .. like i said i got a pair of solos that cant keep up .. its time to upgrade my headphones ... power amp player is a good player too alot of otions but love the MUSIC SQUARE FEATURE ON STOCK PLAYER

Poweramp bass?

Does anyone feel like poweramps bass is always too strong or is it just me? I've been usingpoweramp for a very long time and my equalizer is set to how I like it but lately even with all the bass settings to the lowest, bass is always too strong and it messes up the song. I thought it was my headphones but when I connected my phone to my car which also has an equalizer saved specifically for it the bass was too powerful. I just tried apollo and it seems to be a lot better. Is anyone else having problems with poweramp bass?

custom rom / kernel = voodoo sound
you could try going a different route for bass... voodoo sound, if you haven't already.
we have one of the best sound chips for any phone in our Epic 4g's, and it can use a special kernel-level sound driver, voodoo sound.
for voodoo sound to work, you need to run a voodoo sound enabled kernel (effsi makes one, compatible with CM 10.1 and/or slim rom, the two best Epic roms IMHO.
then with that in place, you can run voodoo sound (free) from play store. it has a bass adjustment setting that works at the kernel level, so applies to all programs I believe, and in a different way then regular EQ like in poweramp.
BTW, another program to check out for audio that is supposed to make MP3 sound better, by using more CPU to over/extra sample, is Neutron MP. I can hear a noticable difference playing music through it, and bought the pay version. I am on monster turbines, with custom fit made earplugs from Radians custom mold plastic ($10, google).
Ya I'm pretty sure poweramp has something to do with it because I tested it on my cousins epic who had the same bass problem as me with his headphones and regular speaker and apollo doesn't have a blown out bass or the disorted sound.
I already use voodoo and know that it effecs my headphones but I understand what the problem that I'm having is. I'm pretty sure poweramp is my problem but I'm not sure why exactly.

LG G4 hardware limiting the earphones volume!

I tried many sound mods like V4A, Dolby Atmos, Xtrememusic....but none increase really the 3.5mm output volume.
You can get more loudness thanks to V4A+Dolby but still you feel there are 20 even 30% missing volume.
Usually with V4A I boost the db in the end from 0 (normal) to +6db and playback gain control to the max on an HTC it used to boost the volume about +30% which was enormous (never used in real life only for testing), but on the G4 and whatever the kernel I used, these +30% are only there at low to mid volume steps (G4's stock volume steps), once you are at step 7 over 10 it will have the exact same volume as 10 over 10, meaning no gain at all. It will just use the max stock volume on lower volume steps :crying:
It looks like the G4's hardware or snapdragon is limiting the max 3.5mm volume.
I tested with my Sony SBH50 BT and HTC CAR Stereoclip BT modules and the volume gain is about 20% over the max volume (meaning 120%) so V4A and other mods can bypass the max volume on a connected BT from the G4 but not the G4's own 3.5mm output
Do you know any ways to bypass this limitation?
I tried Jetaudio and other apps using Gain option but the sound is bad once +1db over normal

Yep this horror .Bad point for g4.
On G3 exixst one good app but not working on G4 https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.laransoft.volumeG3
Only tiny solution:Flash faux sound supported kernel and install faux app. This app help raise vol minimal.
Sorry for my bad english.

In just tried the Fauxsound as my kernel is Superex, and yes it's better than V4A, at least we clearly gain volume with it, I set it at +2 or +3db because more than that the sound quality is deteriorating.
I even disabled V4A as it was doing some parasites once Fauxsound is boosted.
So I think I can say no for a Fiio E6, I wanted this small boost for the incoming ski days

Wow I found my old good Cowon J3, the volume is way louder than G4, it will be my sports music device instead of G4, the only thing is that BT is only 2.0 so I will only used with wired earphones, and if someone calls me on the G4 I won't know

Placebo....
I really don't understand all your doubts about VA4 and volume sound...
I've installed in several phones and with a good profile effect, the sound is fantastic and I only can listen to music with the volume at 25/30%.
If kernel support audio you also increase sound loundeness wit faux app or simple kernel teak tool like kernel adiutor, sypnase or trickster.

Only Faux app is working with actual G4 kernels.
I tried the new Beats port http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/software/mod-htc-beats-audio-beats-xperience-t3281603 and it's pretty good, at last it gives some warmth to the bass
I am on genysis 3.5 with the superxe kernel and v4a definitely works. I would suggest looking at the driver status in v4a and verify that it is set up properly.
If you try v4a again, you might be interested in the convolver Dolby pro logic 2 IRS profile. I think that would give you the volume boost you are looking for.

False.
Following the exact tutorial I posted there is a *very* real difference in max volume when editing the mixer paths. I've repeated it many times on my 5.1 H812 from stock.
The unfortunate problem is the distortion that comes with upping it too much, so the gain is noticeable but you're not able to boost it too high. It's very limited by the hardware. My S3 still sounds a lot better, and it goes louder... bah.

(I found this thread because I was looking for anyone else who may be experimenting, as I'm really not satisfied with the audio output.)

Boy, I sure wish this were an option for the H811 variant. I can't find any kernel that supports fauxsound. This low gain output kills me. I used to have a V10 with the same chipset and that thing would go incredibly loud. This is so disappointing.

[MOD] Increase Max Headphones Volume for custom Oreo Roms

Here is a simple mod that allows you to increase the maximum headphones volume in Oreo custom ROMS for Vince, here's three files:
Original: restore the original max headphones volume in Oreo Custom ROMs
85% Boost (recommended): Increase the max headphones volume to something like the original levels in MIUI, this one doesn't cause distortion or noise.
100% Boost: Increase the max headphones volume to 100% Use at your own risk! May cause distortion, noise, hearing loss or headphones damage.
Requirements:
Unlocked Bootloader
TWRP
Oreo based Custom ROM
Installation:
Dowload the file and flash with TWRP, doesn't need to wipe anything, reboot and test.
Tested on:
Resurrection Remix
Liquid Remix
AEX (AOSP Extended)
Pixel Experience
Havoc OS
Dot OS
Thanks for the great mod. Before I had to max out the volume and it was still not enough. Now I seldom need full volume most of the times i keep it one or two steps lower and thats with the 85% boost.
One question, does it affect bluetooth headphones? Because today I tried a pair of headphones I was considering to buy and they felt nice to me but the loudness was underwhelming. I had changed ROMs so I didnt have the mod installed that time. So will this mod improve that or there isnt a way to increase the volume of those headphones? Because I'll only buy them if I can increase the loudness.

This mod does not affect Bluetooth Headphones because Bluetooth headphones has his own DAC, I'll try to research if its possible to increase the loudness, but I'm pretty sure that its not possible over Bluetooth headphones.
Thanks  worked perfectly in Pixel Experience Rom ? 85% is enough I think

Sorry, I only was able to decrease the volume, I was thinking to just set a higher value, but when I try to increase, the speaker reach a limit and I don't notice a louder volume at all, maybe it's a secure limitation, but I need to do a extensive research. But for now, you can use Viper4Android V15, it's a magisk module, I suggest to enable "speaker optimization" And "eXtra Loud" In speaker tab, and under "master gate" You can set the "Output Gain" To 3dB, also you can use the equalizer optionally. It's not the best solution, especially in max volume, but it's good enough, I think it's safer way to do that without compromise the speaker integrity.
