Hey everyone!
I have a stock M8 with T-Mobile and I live in LA. I'm new to T-Mobile so I wanted to ask if this is normal.
My phone will lose data connectivity but the 4G LTE sign will stay on. Spotify will stop playing, Speedtest won't work, but the phone keeps telling me I have 4G LTE.
This happens a lot especially when driving, but today it happened while I was in the drive-through of a fast food place. I had barely moved and yet data was working fine at first, then suddenly "poof" nothing works anymore cause no internet, but the phone insists I have 4G LTE.
Usually turning data off and then on fixes it but not always.
Could it be an issue of switching towers? But then wouldn't my signal drop completely? Why does only data stop?
Anyone else having this issue or do I have a lemon phone I should return?
if you are jumping from tower to tower it may not relay properly. Call tmo and tell them to do a signal refresh. call from a different phone.
Do you have power saving mode on? The reason I ask this is bc it will turn your data connection off when your screen locks.

I feel your edge
Same here ,
Ever since I bought the m8 it happens to me time to time.
Ive tried dis n reconnect the mobile data or go on airplain mode, but sometimes reboot is quicker.
Hope HTC publish a bug fixed firmware soon
Its a provisioning issue on the towers people you need to call tmo...
This was happening all the time to me on my Note 3 which Is why I upgraded to the M8. Just got it last night and it's happened once. Also, the signal isn't as strong. My Note would hold a lte connection with barely 1 bar. The m8 not so much. Likes to switch between 2g, 4g and lte.

Did it work? I also just got T-Mobile and live in LA and it happens to me as well. I have a Nexus 5 though.

It was fine for a couple of days. Today however I had to wait in the car for 1.5 hours for something and was playing Spotify.
Didn't move for that entire period. For an hour it worked fine, then suddenly it did this again where it wasn't receiving data and yet the 4G LTE sign was on screen.
So I guess it didn't really help. I turned data off and on and it restored it, but still... that's not cool.

Yeah same here. It happens in my house when I'm using my phone in bed and just loses data but it still says LTE and have to either turn off and on data or reset my phone.
Also on my way to work today I was using Spotify the entire drive, which is about 45 minutes, and never lost data but on the way back it lost it about twice. It sucks and hopefully there's a fix of some sort.

I think is not phone problem
tmobile signal issue
my z1 and htc m8 sometime both have this kind of issue
they both show I still have lte icon but just can't connect to network
and sometime you must wait like 1-2 mins to reconnect to network
I have had my M8 for a week and have not experienced any issue with data loss. I am in Miami, Fl. If anything I get way better LTE speeds than I have had with any of my last phones( S4, G2, Iphone 5S)
Same issue with my M8.
Full bars LTE signal and sometimes data just stops working. Need to reboot the phone to get it working again. Was thinking about exchanging the phone but it seems like a software glitch...

I don't have this issue but I do have terrible speeds in south Atlanta.
3-5 bars in my home, and download speeds are from 3-6 Mbps down and uplad from 2-3Mbps up even with LTE. I get much better performance on HSPA+
LTE pings are half that of HSPA though
Just to add on here, in my experience this has more to do with the area and likely the towers supporting that area then software or hardware. Another possibility is T Mobile's network in LA is not 100% compatible with HTC is new radio firmware yet. If that's the case some tweaking by t-mobile on the backend would fix this issue straight away.
The reason I say this is because in Las Vegas, Nevada I never have any problem with LTE losing connection, however, this last week I was in Long Beach, CA (LA County) and constantly had loss of data connection while the phone would still displaying a full 5 bar 4G LTE connection.
Reboot or switching to airplane mode would fix it, however, it got to be so bad and happened so regularly, I eventually stopped using LTE entirely while there. The HSPA+ "4G" connection there was still producing around 10 megabits per second download which was more than enough. So, while there I switched off LTE and had no more issues with data connection dropping.
Long story short clearly seems to be an issue with T Mobile Lte Towers in the greater Los Angeles area. Possibly its an issue in other areas as well.

Happening here in South Houston too, but i am using a VZW M8 with Tmo.
I also have this issue, but I'm on AT&T and missing some bands that I need, so I was figuring it was that.
I had a galaxy s5 and had same issue.
So i know it's not the phone

Has anyone found a solution to this problem yet? My HTC One M8 has been losing data connectivity ever since I purchased it last month. It will say I have 4G LTE but I will loose data connection regardless. It's a nuisance. I never had that problem with the M7. My camera on the M7 got a purple haze so T-Mobile replaced it with a refurbished M7. It was the worst thing I could've done. The refurbished M7 would freeze and reboot a lot, until it finally got stuck in a boot loop and I lost all my photos, videos, and files. Would not go into recovery. Then T-Mobile sent me a plastic Samsung S4 as a replacement for that because they were out of the M7. The new M8 has been working pretty well except for the annoying data connection loss everyday. I have to activate then deactivate airplane mode to obtain data connection again. Only other time I ever had this happen was with a certain nighyly rom I put on my HTC HD2, but that was rooted, this is a stock phone, I never expected to have a data connection problem with a stock rom.
I had this problem for ages with straight talk with my old phone just before I bought my M8. Exactly the same issue in that my data would seemingly just cut out randomly after a bit then come back later(switching off/on and/or in and out of airplane would restore it).
In my case, it turned out to be my data settings. I played around with different settings one night and found that different settings finally got rid of the problem for me. Your mileage may vary, but it's an easy enough thing to try.
I've had my G3 since last week and I'm starting to get very frustrated with it. I have absolutely no issue with the phone itself. Its snappy, screen is beautiful. UI is fine, and honestly I don't even feel the need to root (yet)
My problem is the LTE on the phone. I have my phone USB tethered to my PC in a window to give me high speed. We only get dial up where we live and LTE is the only source of highspeed available. Frustratingly during the day between around 11am and 8pm Its like pulling teeth to get the phone to stick to LTE, every 1-5 minutes it switches down to 3G and stays there until I put it into airplane mode and back. Then LTE pops on again and its fine for another 1-5 minutes. During the night it will stay for hours. I've even taken off the back case to somehow eek out a little more signal strength.
Now I know that this could be a provider coverage issue, but my mother's Galaxy S4 stays on LTE even during the daytime and has one more bar of signal.
So before I throw the phone across the room in frustration, I was wondering if anyone knows of a way to change the LTE/CMDA settings beyond the crappy preference options (that doesn't work) in the mobile data settings. I can access the hidden menus but I don't know what any of it means. Is there a way to force LTE on permanently, or disable 3G data. Are there any nice network diagnostic tools to track signal strength as I move the phone to different areas, or compare it with other phones?
I love this phone but if I can't find a fix I may have to replace it with another device.
TL;DR: Need help getting LTE to stay on, settings or tool recommendations welcome.
I have this same issue!!!
Hey I know this isn't an answer to your problem but, I wanted to say you aren't alone by any means and I have also tried the same things you have. This is very irritating and I called my phone provider (T-Mobile) and all they could tell me is to get a "LTE phone booster" so that is what I have done but now I have to wait like a week and a half for it to get here.... By chance have you found a solution to our problem ?

i dont know if my problem is same as u but i will try to relate
like u said i m pretty much more than happy with my phone...but there is something still bugging me...
1. For some reason my phone wont read micro sim card...but it will read nano sim with a xtra plastic sim tray attached to it....i also saw many ppl claiming the same problem.... didnt find any solution yet..
2. it is normal for every phone that if u are out of network...u wont get any bar...my phone also does the same...but the problem is....network bar should be back once u r in network coverage again...but my Lg g3 dont do that...i keeps searching for network....wont find any bar until i turn on Airplane mode den turn it off again...i m concerned..please someone help me :crying:
Anyone else on the ATT G4 having problems with LTE connectivity? In areas where I'd usually get 5 bars of LTE service, a majority of the time I get 2 or 3 bars of Edge service. Putting it into airplane mode and back out doesn't help, turning mobile data on and off doesn't help, and neither does removing the SIM card (and reseting the phone in the process). It seems to come and go whenever it wants to.

All I can guess is, it's probably just the ATT network itself. They did some upgrades around here a while once Cspire started hyping their fiber optic network and I noticed on my older phone that in areas where I used to get 3G I was stuck getting edge. Even with my G4 I can park in perfect view of a known ATT tower and it'll hit 4G and within a minute be down to 3G - same with strength. Get 5 bars, don't move, no data, no call, and it'll drop down to no bars but still connected and bounce around, usually settling at 2 or 3. Even though ATT says they have full LTE out here I rarely actually see the LTE logo display in the status bar.
I've been using OpenSignal to try to map out coverage areas though, been pretty handy in finding towers and chasing stronger signal
Hi sir
I m using lg g4 h810 AT&T it was working well one day i put a memory card in it signal disappear never came go to software and hardware experts but nobody has solved my problem all other functions of cell phone working properly
Hey guys, I have received a Note 4 from amazon the phone works great however, my 4G LTE is very slow and i can only receive one bar in my house but when im around the town where i live it will its will works ill get 2 to 3 bars with spark then it will stop connecting and causing my apps (facebook ect) to stop working saying " unable to connect" then i would have to switch to 3G to atleast get it to reload again because it will try to get 4G LTE with one bar its killing my battery so much because it is trying to get the connection to stay then stop working i'm using my old UICC sim with my Galaxy S4 i dont know if that would make a any difference, its making so crazy with having slow 4G LTE when i had my iphone 6 and it worked fine , Every day i need to turn from 4g LTE to 3G daily to get atleast okay service. but even the 3G is slow with full bars. Any ideas guys ? I contacted Sprint, they said they reported the issue and they will work on it.
Noticing something unusual now with my S8+ locking onto 4G LTE.
If I am in a 4G LTE area (40-50 down speeds on avg), then move to a poor coverage area (Edge only), then move back to the same 4G LTE area...my phone does not switch back to 4G LTE.
I have to restart my phone in order to connect to 4G LTE.
Turning off then turning on data doesn't work either...although shouldn't have to do this anyway.
Any suggestions? BTW, haven't touched the default phone settings and I have cellular network preferred in the wifi call setting if that matters. Network mode is LTE/4G/3G/2G. My phone is not rooted.
Thanks.
I've experienced this same issue I've actually had my s8+ replaced under warranty 5 times now... t-mobile is now having me contact samsung to send in my phone because they believe its a phone issue...
wow, really...
that stinks...and you know, only started after one of the recent updates, whatever was before the Bixby update... maybe coincident, maybe not.
Same issues here. I've had while running the T-Mo firmware and the unlocked firmware. Mine was originally the US Unlocked version purchased straight from Samsung.com.
I have that same problem too... Just put it in airplane mode for a few seconds to fix it.

That doesn't work for me. It's hit or miss. Sometimes it bounces back to LTE just fine, other times not. Yesterday, it got stuck on H+. Only a reboot would fix it.
well what the heck - guess i will visit the TMo store to see what they say...
